I always enjoy B.A. Paris and The Guest was no different. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator did a great job. The narrator had the English accent, which I feel ties B.A. Paris to her books. It also added to the story line!
This thriller kept me on edge, with the seemingly unexcused houseguest! Iris and Gabriel have their own problems and now there is one more person added to their daily lives. New local friends, new help, babies, and a not a lot of alone time can lead to some trials and tribulations... The ending was om goodness good. I could not be more shocked and wowed and AHH!! This is one you need to pick up!
B.A Paris is an author I’m always intrigued by and this book definitely captured my interest!
Have you ever had a house guest that overstayed their welcome? What do you do when you want to help them with whatever they may be going through, but also want to move back to your normal everyday life? But then when death and murder is thrown into the mix things really get interesting!
B.A Paris knows how to write a captivating thriller and this book is no exception! You won’t want to miss this book coming February 20th!
I had a tough time getting into this one but once I did, I really enjoyed it! One of my favorite authors!
3.5 for me overall
The audio 5 freaking stars!
This definitely has the drama. But it fell flat for me with so much day to day life fluff. I thought I had things figured out pretty quickly but then another person died and I knew I was wrong. A little bit later and I had definitely figured out where this was going. The big end twist was exactly what I predicted and I NEVER get those right. The audio really made the book for me and definitely kept me listening. She did a phenomenal job.
Thank you for this ARC netgalley all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my favorite B.A. Paris book so far! You think that you have it figured out and then boom, the ending shocks you. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this. I’m glad I gave it a try.
I am a big fan of B.A. Paris after reading two previous books. I received an advance copy of this audiobook from NetGalley and McMillan audio, so I was grateful and excited to read this one.
It started off rather confusing with all the different characters, but once I got that straight, I enjoyed the rest of the book. The ending was surprising.
I always recommend this author, and will continue to do so.
When Iris and Gabriel return home early from their trip, they find their good friend, Laure, in their home. She has left her husband, Pierre, because he admitted to having a past affair and a child that he recently found out about.
Laure has made herself comfortable in theiro home and boundaries have been overstepped. In the midst of their new houseguest, Laure and Gabriel make friends with a new couple that recently moved to town. They become close quickly and soon after secrets start to unravel.
Overall, this was a good read and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to read it! I’m only at 4 stars because I feel like the really good parts were crammed into the end of the book. I wish some of the twists could have been more spread out throughout the story!
I enjoyed the narrator and it was a very engaging listen.
3.5 🌟This one has an ending I definitely did NOT see coming. I didn’t find the characters particularly likable and struggled with getting into the plot in the beginning, but I’m glad I stuck with it and I really enjoyed how it all came together in the end,
Thank you for the ARC copy.
I could not guess the ending of this book. Overall the book was a little slow and dragged. I did not love the characters. The very end was the best part of the book.
Iris and Gabriel are content in their marriage. It may not be perfect k but it’s ticking along. Their daughter is working her dream job in Greece. The tranquility of their life gets disturbed when Gabriel comes upon Charlie, who is tragically involved in a biking accident. Charlie’s final moments have monumental effects on Gabriel, leading him to distance himself from his wife and his life. Iris and Gabriel go away for a weekend to try to have a break and as they come home encounter their long time friend Laure making herself at home in their home without their knowledge. Laure and her husband Pierre became friends with Iris and Gabriel several years ago on a trip abroad and have maintained that connection by seeing each other several times a year and staying with each other when they’re in town. But this time Laure turns up unannounced and declaring that she will be ending her relationship with Pierre because she has found out he has a secret child.
Then Esme and her husband Hugh move in next to Gabriel and Iris, along with their employee Joseph, and these new people further shift the dynamics of Gabriel and Iris’ lives.
Marital bonds are tested, dark secrets revealed and unreliable characters all add up to a story that is engaging and gratifying.
Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this audiobook arc in exchange for my review.
I loved this book! The narrator did such a great job and the story was intriguing. You knew it was building toward something, especially because the beginning of the book shares some of it, yet I was still surprised repeatedly throughout the novel. Great characters and interesting relationships. Highly recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this ARC.
3.5 ⭐️ This had all the twists and turns that I love from any Paris novel but lacked much of the character development I was looking for in order to care which way the book went. I felt the book picked up substantially about 60% of the way through, but it was a slow climb to get there.
I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley and leave this review voluntarily.
Overall I enjoyed the story here, and a twist ending, but it was a bit slow for me with a lot of unnecessary stuff going on. Because of that, I had a hard time getting into the book. The narrator was very good, and I enjoyed listening.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this audiobook.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillian Audio for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this thriller. Iris & Gabrielle are living a nice quiet life when one of their long time friends, Laure shows up on their door step saying that she & Pierre are separating because he is having an affair and has a daughter with this woman. Iris & Gabrielle cannot believe it. They are good friends with both Laure & Pierre and often go an vacations together and now all of that is coming to an end. They agree to let Laure stay with them until she can straighten things out with Pierre. However, things start to get a little uncomfortable as Laure is making herself a little to "at home" in their house. Gabrielle decides to take a trip to see Pierre as he is not returning any of his texts but Pierre is on a sabbatical for a month and he will have to wait until Pierre returns to get the full story. The twists in this story were good and the whole storyline leading up to them was very believable. I enjoyed the characters, the story and the narrators. Enjoy!!!
I love BA Paris and couldn’t wait to listen to her latest! “The Guest” was a wild tale with A LOT going on. It took a bit for me to get hooked but I enjoyed the narration and all the different story lines. Some aspects were predictable and others had me guessing! A fun book for sure!
Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
*3.5 stars*
Oh boy, oh boy! I feel so conflicted on this one because it's definitely a slow burn for a domestic drama thriller. It's not super intense but yet it keeps you going. Some crazy stuff happens and you're like okay now what? We still have how much to go what else could go on? It was a wild ride.
I'll be honest I wasn't super impressed until we literally got to the end and the twist was reveal. Then I was like oh snap, okay, this was better than I thought! I feel like I should have saw it coming but I'm kind of glad I didn't for once. I was just along for the wild ride. It did feel a little slow and anticlimactic for most of it but the end made up for it. I liked seeing how it all wrapped together! The audio format was great!!!
I have enjoyed this author in the past but I just couldn't get into this one. I really did not like the characters and that took away from any enjoyment of the story/mystery. The ending was not as twisty as I was hoping, but it was satisfying. The narration was fine, no complaints.
This started out kind of boring, more like a family drama. But stick with it, because it gets good! I always enjoy audiobooks with British narrators.
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ARC audiobook. First off - the narrator is one of the best I’ve ever listened to and she did a fantastic job differentiating characters and keeping pace on a story with many twists and turns. I’d rate this as 3.5 stars. I was very drawn into the story from the beginning and at the 50% mark I couldn’t stop listening but the end began to get convoluted for me. The end was great and unexpected, but I think overall it shock value would have been more effective if it had been shorter. I do love this author and will continue to rec her books.
"The Guest" by B.A. Paris is a captivating psychological thriller that immerses readers in a web of suspense and intrigue. This gripping novel takes unexpected turns, keeping the audience guessing until the very end. Paris skillfully crafts a suspenseful atmosphere, making it difficult to put the book down. The characters are complex and the plot is filled with twists that add layers to the narrative.
