Thank you net galley for this self improvement book. I went back and reread a little bit, as I’m a little behind on posting this. I found it to be helpful and I will go back again for a little boost. Some good tips for procrastinating.

I'm inherently suspicious of productivity guru self help-type books. But this one really was a gem, because rather than focusing on being a hyper-productive robot, Abdaal focuses on how to do more of what truly matters to you, spend more time with the people you love, and take care of yourself and your own mental health. He emphasizes the importance of rest and play, and overall, just doing LESS--something that is usually the opposite message in these types of books. It was really friendly and approachable, and quite an enjoyable read. One thing I wish he fleshed out a little more was integrating play into your work and the types of play that people enjoy. He provided a list of the types, but I think he really could have spent more time diving into each of them and recommendations for how to integrate those types of changes. For me, that was one of the most eye-opening sections of the book, so it could have been a little longer.

Overall, I definitely recommend this book. I'll probably pick up a hard copy for myself to annotate and reference later.

The audiobook Feel-Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You has been written by and narrated by Ali Abdaal. We think that productivity is all about hard work. That the road to success is lined with endless frustration and toil. But what if there’s another way? Dr Ali Abdaal – the world's most-followed productivity expert – has uncovered an easier and happier path to success. Drawing on decades of psychological research, he has found that the secret to productivity and success isn't grind – it's feeling good. If you can make your work feel good, then productivity takes care of itself. In this audiobook, Ali reveals how the science of feel-good productivity can transform your life. He introduces the three hidden "energizers" that underpin enjoyable productivity, the three "blockers" we must overcome to beat procrastination, and the three "sustainers" that prevent burnout and help us achieve lasting fulfillment. He recounts the inspiring stories of founders, Olympians, and Nobel-winning scientists who embody the principles of Feel-Good Productivity. And he introduces the simple, actionable changes that you can use to achieve more and live better, starting today.

Feel-Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You is an interesting and informative book. Abdaal does a great job narrating, and I think that only enhances the audiobook format of this read. I thought that he described the problems that many of up face with motivation and productivity and offers information to help us understand the science and feelings that sometimes make us get in our own way. I thought the examples and information was well chosen and explained, getting the details and inherent nature of them across without getting too technical or dry. The suggestions and tools Abdaal offers are manageable, and I like that he mentions several times that not every tool or method will work for everyone. However, the awareness, effort, and intent can all help us work towards happier and more fulfilling lives.

This is an interesting twist on the productivity self help book. I read it and listened to the audio. The audio was done by the author, who was very pleasant to listen to. Though there are some diagrams and other visuals in the print version, you don't miss much of that with the audio.

At first I was unimpressed with this, but it grew on me. It probably could've been reduced to an essay or more manual-length volume, but it's a nice read with some new ideas.

I am thinking of discussing this in a self help series at the library, which would also include Atomic Habits and maybe ADHD for Smart Ass Women.

Thank you NetGalley and LibroFM for the ARCs!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of “Feel-Good Productivity” in exchange for an honest review. I shouldn’t be surprised, given the title, but I liked the positive spin on productivity. The author subscribes to the belief that you are only as productive externally as you are internally. He presents a very kind and forgiving approach to productivity that I appreciated. I’m not familiar with his previous work, so this was new to me and I enjoyed it. While nothing was truly revolutionary, I do think that this is a worthwhile read for people who struggle with attaching shame or judgment to productivity. It would also be good for teenagers, or a class/group/study to read and discuss in order to have a common language. 3.75 stars.

My Type A personality loves all the books about productivity and goal setting! Is there anything new to learn about this, you may ask. Why yes. Yes, there is! I like the author’s idea of NICE goals vs SMART goals. As an SLP, my life is consumed with SMART goals, but I really like the tweaks @aliabdaal has made to this goal setting for my personal life. I especially enjoyed the importance he placed on recharging, specifically the Reitoff Principle. “...short term ‘unproductiveness’ gives me time to reset and recharge.” This book taught me new ways to think about productivity and also validated some of my own habits. 😀If you liked Atomic Habits check this one out. I listened to the audiobook, which I highly recommend, especially for the added bonus of the author describing the illustrations! So cute! I liked this book so much I bought it! And yes, I annotated it…Did I mention I’m Type A?

As the name implies, "Feel-Good Productivity" by Ali Abdaal, is all about being more well-rounded and productive. Abdaal's unique perspective as a doctor turned online entrepreneur offers an interesting angle. However, the audiobook, narrated by the author lacks excitement. Plus, his excessive breaths between paragraphs disrupt the listening experience, requiring better editing.

The content seems somewhat recycled from other self-help books, lacking originality.

Thanks to Macmillan Audio via NetGalley for the advanced listener copy.

I enjoyed this audiobook, but I don't think it added anything new to my knowledge of productivity and self-care. Helpful tips.

The first quarter to third of this book gave me what was promised: info and insight about becoming more productive through fun and finding joy. After that it became more generally about productivity with a lot of material I’ve read multiple times in multiple places.

I really loved this book: the ways it made me rethink productivity, the author narration of the audiobook, and the fact that it’s a book I might have to re-read to fully let it soak in.

Ali’s premise is that it’s often negative emotions that get in the way of good productivity and the key to avoiding burnout is to find what energizes you and align your values to your work. It’s a fairly simple thesis and he adds a host of interesting scientific studies to further his point.

My favorite section was when he addressed the three types of burnout, which is extremely helpful in understanding what is causing your particular flavor of burnout (sometimes it’s all there). The 3 types of burnout are: 1) taking on too much work (over-exertion burnout), 2) not resting enough (depletion burnout) and 3) doing the wrong stuff, work that doesn’t bring you joy (misalignment burnout).

Ali has the perfect voice for this book and I enjoyed his very British narration. A must read book for productivity nerds like myself!

“No failure is ever just a failure, it’s an invitation to try something new.”

I’m always trying to find ways to be more productive and happy.

This book came to me at a great time because I’m working on incorporating new healthy habits into my daily life. They aren’t aggressive or intense. Just changing my mindset to be happier and healthier.

If you are on a similar journey, I definitely recommend this book to get you started. All about positive changes to your life that don’t hurt your mental or physical health. I love that it speaks on making changes for real reasons that are safe. So often people make crazy, drastic changes to be a “better” person that aren’t realistic or sustainable.

Thanks to NetGalley, Ali Abdaal and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to read Feel Good Productivity. I have written this review voluntarily.

I found Feel-Good Productivity a compelling read. As soon as I started the audiobook I couldn't stop listening. I liked how he broke down the book into three parts. Each part was unique and had short examples that the reader could use in real life. I enjoyed his breakdown on play, burnout, and depletion. I found those sections are not explored as much when it comes to books I've read on productivity.

The only thing I wished this book had were different examples in some sections. I know when it comes to self-help books they kind of use the same examples or studies and it gets kind of repetitive.

Thank you Netgalley for granting me access to this book.

Feel-Good Productivity is a breath of fresh air and just what I needed! It really stands out in its genre of self help/development. Abdaal brings such a unique perspective, informing us that we should focus more on what really matters to us and not on getting more done. The anecdotes are fascinating and the information is well synthesized and presented. I loved the focus on giving ourselves agency and considering what fulfills and energizes us. Abdaal lays out clear action steps that are easy to consider and follow. This is a pretty short book, so it would be great for a work book club to get employees more engaged. I listened to the audiobook, which is perfectly narrated by the author, Ali Abdaal, whose voice is soothing and earnest.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for providing this ebook/audiobook ARC. All thoughts are my own.
