I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Patient’s Daughter’ written by Jenna Kernan in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Taylor Roth Parker is due to have twins and finds a larger house that her father offers to pay the mortgage for although there’s nothing in writing. Then her father changes his mind leaving Taylor and her husband Seth with a house they can’t afford and no means of paying for it. They don’t want to lose the house so Taylor forms a plan to take in lodgers to help pay the mortgage.

I enjoyed the reading the first book in the Roth Family Lies series so fully expected to enjoy ‘The Patient’s Daughter’ but it was nothing like as good with the first half so slow I longed for something to happen. Then the plot becomes weird with a highly improbable twist and is so far-fetched it could almost have been a completely different book. I have no doubt it’ll appeal to a lot of readers but I’m afraid I’m not one of them and as I couldn’t empathise with any of the characters I rapidly lost interest. I apologise for giving negative comments but this is purely my own honest opinion.

Taylor had a rough childhood. But she couldn’t wait to start a family with her Husband Seth. When she gets cut off from her families money, she panics. How can they afford this big home? Taylor decides they should rent out some of the rooms. Becca, Jules and Zoe are the new roommates. But are they who they say they are?I found this book to be a little slow but it definitely got interesting. There was a lot of twists and turns. I certainly was stressed when reading it. I wouldn’t like the idea of strangers living in my house. I did not know it was part of a series but I still enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this book.

Thank you, NetGalley, Jenna and Bookouture for the ARC!

The Patient's Daughter by Jenna Kernan was a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. When Taylor's parents cut her off financially, she takes in roommates to help pay the mortgage. With twin boys on the way with husband Seth, it is not ideal. Things soon start to unravel when Zoe and couple Becca & Jules move in.

I enjoyed this book and it did keep me guessing. There are a few twists and you are never really sure what to believe until the end.

While this was far from the worst book I've read, it's definitely not one I would recommend. I was along for the ride to see where the story would go and thought for sure with the plot twist things would get exciting. They just didn't for me. There was a little build-up and then it just ended. This morning I had to double-check that I actually finished the book because it just feels like there was no ending. That's it???? After all of that? Meh is too strong of a feeling for it.

Patient's Daughter by Jenna Kernan is a slow burn thriller that is gripping and entertaining from start to finish.
A suspenseful story with characters who are intriguing.
The suspense and plot was very well thought out with lots of twists and turns.

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

This is the type of book you should take on holiday - it’s the perfect book to get lost in on an aeroplane or even on the beach. There is a lot going on in it and some of the characters are pretty annoying, but it will keep you guessing and challenge you to work out what on earth is going on. The second half seemed a little bit rushed to me but that may simply be because there was so much content and so many strings to tie up.

A rollercoaster from the get-go. Taylor and seth are dealing with no support and a house they can't afford. Bring in lodgers, and boom – drama.

From the jump, it's gripping. The writing is smooth, and you're just sucked in. But omg, the second half of the book went BANANAS. The twist blindsided me – legit didn't see it coming. Couldn't put it down; it was that good.

This thriller? Shockingly wild. My theories? All wrong. The mid-book twist? Jaw on the floor. Seriously, did not see it coming!!

Now, the downside – first half? Snail pace. For a speed reader like me, torture. But hey, it picked up like a rocket after that. Could've skipped the slow burn, saved some pages.

In a nutshell, awesome book – talking about it for weeks. Big thanks for the ARC. Hope this gem gets the recognition it deserves!

The Patient’s Daughter
By: Jenna Kernan
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Taylor has been spoiled most her life. Taylor is married to Seth a medical student and they are expecting twins. Taylor has Seth and her dad wrapped around her finger but after her dad cuts off financial support things get interesting.

Taylor purchased a house without Seth knowing with her dad promising to help as the home is very expensive. After being cut off Taylor ends up renting the rooms to others…

Things start to get very interesting! Seth has been hiding his past with Taylor and this leads to very complicated scenarios. I don’t want to spoil this because it adds so much to the craziness of this novel, but in a good way. I am confused on the title in relation to the story, but hopefully someone can fill me in.

Thank you Bookouture. This novel is available January 9, 2024.

I have really mixed feelings about this book.

This book started off extremely slow. It was repetitive, there were no new plot developments, and it was kind of boring. But about halfway through things picked up and it got pretty interesting and the pace picked up. The major twist ended up being really out there but I kind of liked that about it. It added some interest to this story. But there were some really unrealistic aspects to this story that I just could not get past. A dad is really going to offer to pay a mortgage on a million dollar house and then take it back as soon as he signs the paperwork? A community that lives strictly off the grid runs a podcast with 9,000 subscribers? You couldn’t deduce that someone going by Becca’s full name might be Rebekah? Some things were just really far fetched and it became distracting. Also there was a lot of talk about a huge newsworthy event happening to Taylor’s parents and we never even got to know what it was. Overall I was left disappointed with this book. I give this book 2.5 stars, rounded up.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!

The Patient's Daughter held such promise; its premise hinted at something dark and disturbing, and it delivered. However, the twist in the story derailed and left me disappointed.

I was thoroughly engrossed in the first half of the book. The slow build-up to the reveal had me hooked. But then, it lost its momentum. The last two chapters were a struggle to get through, and I found the ending underwhelming.

My favorite aspect of the book was Taylor, the FMC's character development. It was a joy to witness her growth throughout the story.

As this is the second book in the Roth Family Lies series (I haven't read the first one), perhaps the connection between the title and the actual content of the book could be found in the previous installment. On its own, it's disjointed and unrelated.

Taylor Parker has always had a toxic relationship with her parents but now that she’s married to medical student Seth and pregnant with twins she wants her’s to be a totally loving family for her it starts with the beautiful home her father just purchased for her or at least put down the down payment and promises to pay the house note until Seth finishes his residency and becomes a full-fledged doctor. Something Seth isn’t happy about but because he loves Taylor he tries to make it work. It isn’t until after they move in her mother calls and tells Taylor her father and she got in a horrible argument about him paying for her home and she will not allow that. Taylor is a month away from giving birth to twin boys with a humongous house note and hardly no income to pay for it this is why she comes up with the idea to let out rooms in her home. Again something Seth is not happy about but nose needs must and goes along with it. She immediately gets takers for her empty rooms one is a young couple named Julius and Rebecca in another girl is named Zoe. Taylor couldn’t be happier even when she start seeing strange things outside her window and feeling as if someone is following her she blows it off as paranoia but when Seth gets arrested for drug dealing and she wakes up with Rebecca standing over her things seem to just get weirder. Who are these people Taylor has allowed into her home? Unfortunately she starts to ask these questions way too late in the game. If you love books having to do with cults demented thinking and twisted logic you’re definitely going to love The Patient’s Daughter, The Roth Family Lies by Jenna Kernan. This is a multi genre author whose every book she writes I happen to love from her historical fiction mystery to crime mystery to these great thrillers it seems Jenna Kernan can do no wrong when it comes to spinning a yarn and this book is definitely a great testament to that. I have yet to read one of her books I didn’t love this one included. So if you’re looking for a twisty read you should definitely give this one a glance. This is one of those books where when they say it is a gripping thriller they are absolutely telling the truth. I want to thank Bookoucher and net Gali for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

I am glad I stuck with this book. It definitely started out slow but it gradually picked up steam. I love this author. I am glad Taylor evolved throughout the book because at first I hated her character. I want to see more by this author and will recommend to all my friends and customers. Thanks for the Advanced Review Copy to read

When Taylor's parents decide not to support her anymore, Taylor and her husband Seth are left with a house they can't afford and twins on the way. They decide to bring in lodgers so they can remain living there and things go downhill from there...

This book was quite slow starting, I didn't feel like much happened in the first half of the book. The second half however, was WILD. I absolutely did not see the twist coming. The second half was fast paced and I couldn't put it down. I loved Taylor's character development, going from spoiled rich kid to protective mother that will do anything to protect her children.

I hadnt realised this was part of a series, I have already downloaded "The Nurse" to read as I'd love to know more about Taylor's parents!!

Wow! This was a shockingly wild thriller. I had so many theories on what was going to happen and was wondering which path this book would take and I couldn’t have been more wrong with any of my guesses. I never saw that mid book twist coming. My jaw hit the floor when it was revealed. I really liked how Taylor’s character evolved throughout the book. At first she seems like a spoiled selfish woman and is hard to like. Once you remember who her parents are, and as the book progresses, you start to like Taylor and she grows as a person. This is a wild page turner. Thank you to NetGalley and bookouture for my advanced copy.

This book wasn't too bad, but I think if it wasn't so slow to start and in the first half - I would have enjoyed it much more. I felt like nothing climatic happened in the first half and I was very close to DNF'ing but I pushed through and definitely enjoyed the second half of the book.

This thriller moved awfully slow. Practically nothing happened in the first half. Nothing about this grabbed me or really interested me. I also didn't know it was part of a series.

The patients daughter is a slow burn thriller that picks up in the second half with lots of suspense and tension.

The story follows married couple Taylor and Seth who are pregnant with twins. Unfortunately their financial situation is not ideal, so to combat this problem they invite 3 tenants to live with them.

All goes well at first, the seemingly ideal situation, until Taylor starts to get the sensation that she is being watched, she sees shadows under the door at night and some things just don’t add up. She overhears a lot of conversations that concern her, but is she being paranoid or is something seriously wrong?

As usual the wife is seen as hysterical and the husband is useless, so it’s up to mama bear to protect her offspring and the claws will come out.

there is a lot of manipulation, twists and shocking revelations. This is very much a psychological thriller, with a somewhat open ended cliff hanger that hints at being a third book related to this series, I definitely intend to read the next instalment!

This was a fun read and I highly recommend :)

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a chance to read this book
