The book of Philipians is a favorite of mine and when I saw that Robert J. Morgan who had visited our church this past year wrote a book on it, I was excited to read it. He splits his book into 31 chapters that are easy to read but dig into the meaning of scripture and what Paul was writing not only for the Philipian believers but for us today. Life is overwhelming and it can be hard to do on our own. This book gives us reminders that we can live a life for Christ no matter what happens and just how to do that! I really enjoyed the real-life stories that he told about believers who are doing just that.

What Happens: How to Stand Firm in Your Faith When the World is Falling Apart is an insightful look into the book of Philippians. This isn't a walk-through guide/commentary of Philippians but more of stories and knowledge from the author relating to the book. It's divided into 31 small chapters so it would make a great daily devotional reading. You can tell the author has lots of wisdom and expertise. It includes a lot of his own personal stories which are enjoyable and relatable.

Thank you, Thomas Nelson, and NetGalley, for a copy in return for my honest review.

In the book Whatever Happens, author Robert J Morgan, takes a journey through Paul’s teachings in the book of Philippians. This is not a commentary but the author delves into the historical context and gives personal stories from his own experiences. I did not find any great insights but this is a solid presentation of Philippians. This is a good devotional. I would recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Whatever Happens: How to Stand Firm in Your Faith When the World is Falling Apart by Robert J. Morgan is a thirty-one chapter walk through the book of Philippians, which Robert shares is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Drawing from over a half century of preaching and teaching, he uses his vast knowledge of scripture, keen insights and interweaves true stories to help readers understand how they can trust their unchanging God in today’s ever changing world, no matter what happens. I found this book to be very comforting in addition to further enhancing my understanding of what is widely known as Paul’s “Epistle of Joy” and I highly recommend it for those seeking to stand firm in their faith during difficult times.

This ARC was given to me by Thomas Nelson in exchange for an honest review.

“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of Christ.” ☕📚

This is a Christian nonfiction new release for March 19, 2024, by Robert J Morgan.

I purposely don’t read too much of a book’s summary to leave a little mystery and excitement. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the tagline caught my attention: How to stand firm in your faith when the world is falling apart.

WHAT’S TO LOVE?
These 31 short chapters are filled with commentary on the book of Philippians from a mature Christian (not only in age but experience as well) with a lot of wisdom from years of study and ministry. He’s an excellent “cheerleader” for those downtrodden in this unstable world.

I found Mr. Morgan’s writing style very personable and interesting. He presented a strong case for Christians not to lose sight of Christ -- no whatever happens. It’s a bit of “How To” with action steps. He expertly compared scene upon scene of the missionary Paul’s circumstances and how he faced them.

CAUSE FOR PAUSE? Now and then, he used words a bit too theological, a.k.a. “preacher talk.” I say that with respect, but it may cause overwhelm at times.

CONSIDER READING IF… you want an in-depth deep dive into the book of Philippians and a greater understanding of how Paul lived such a “sold out” life for Christ and how we can too — whatever happens! 😀

MY RATING 🌟🌟🌟 To be released on March 19, 2024.

This book is full of teachings from Philippians. It's not so much a commentary but the author provides an abundance of historical and cultural insights about Philippians, how to apply the scriptures, and his own experiences in walking out the application of the scriptures. It's rich with details of what was behind and inspired the scriptures in Philippians, and the authors ability to create descriptive settings is top notch. There were a few times I was reading about the early church and felt myself caught up as if I was reading a biblical fiction novel. This book encourages believers to stand firm on the Word throughout all seasons of life. Last note-it's not often I've read Christian non-fiction and had the strong sense that the author has lived every word they're teaching. Somehow, that really came through in this book. The author is teaching in the book but what shines through is that he is a testimony of a life rooted down deep in the Word, through every season.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary advanced copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
