This is a gripping psychological thriller. It hooks you from the first page and keeps you on your toes till the end. You barely breathe, questioning so many puzzle pieces, including where is Piper, what really happened to her, and how Shoal Island Hospital is the final piece of the puzzle. What is the thin veil between reality and madness? Iris Walsh, in her early twenties, raising her 8-year-old son Calvin with the help of her grandmother—a former stripper, librarian, caretaker, mother of a drug addict, and guardian of twins.

Iris cannot get through the day when she was fifteen, witnessing her twin sister Piper’s kidnapping in front of a movie theater. The officers didn’t want to believe her, thinking her sister had run away, but she never gave up on her. Nearly a decade later, she graduates from school to be an intern at Shoal Island Hospital because the monster who hurt her sister might be one of the violent patients there. But what if she's wrong? What if she's about to punish an innocent guy, or worse, put her life in danger to become the next prey of a very brutal man?

This is one of my fastest, extra riveting, and exciting reads that I devoured in one sitting. So much happens in a short time, but I truly enjoyed it.

Good Half Gone was entertaining and kept me engaged throughout - though the premise might have been a little far-fetched at times! My first book by Tarryn Fisher I’m going to pick up some of her backlist soon. I received an advanced reading copy, receipt of which did not impact my review.

This was a WILD ride - not at all what I was expecting (I did go in blind) I enjoyed the past & present chapters. Tarryn is my favorite when it comes to psychological thrillers!

My mom and I read Good Half Gone together ahead of seeing Tarryn Fisher speak about the book and we ate it up! Our discussion and the ridiculous theories we had made for such fun chats.

If you're looking for a creepy, dark, atmospheric novel with mystery, intrigue, and family drama set amidst an isolated mental institution... and let's be real, who ISN'T looking for that?... then this is the book for you!

I generally love Fisher's novels, but this one didn't work for me. I felt there were too many details that weren't necessary. It was a cool premise, but the writing didn't have the sense of urgency that so many of her other books have. I look forward to trying again with her next novel.

Thank you to @Netgalley and @htpbooks for my free advanced readers copy of this thrilling book!

I LOVED this suspenseful mystery thriller as I rapidly flipped the pages! A nicely added TWIST at the end had me really surprised! Would definately read this again and I recommend to readers who like Shari Lapena and Ruth Ware.

Good Half Gone is about a sister who seeks answers and justice years later after her twin is kidnapped and never seen again. She infiltrates a psych prison that holds the man that she suspects murdered her sister. She wants answers and she will do anything to get them.

This book!!

Definitely kept you in your toes and made you question everything. Literally everything.

Spoiler here: the amount in which I liked Leo was what gave the ending for me. I liked him too much for a Tarryn Fisher book (I love her books btw) way too early on. It gave me major red flags 😂

Anyways. Loved it. I know exactly what readers I will be recommending this book to!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

I am a huge fan of Tarryn Fisher and was super excited to receive an early release copy of this book. Unlike most of the other Tarryn Fisher books I've read I had a heard time getting into this one, I couldn't get invested in the story until about 2/3 of the way through. The twist at the end was unexpected for me, and it salvaged the read for me, enough that I plan to re-read it and see what clues I missed. Overall a good read, once I got into it.

Good Half Gone
By: Tarryn Fisher

This is the first book I’ve read from this author. The synopsis really made me want to read it. The first few lines of the starting of this book had me hooked. The 9-1-1 call had me curious and intrigued of what was going to happen. As I continued on reading I was getting confused a lot. Each chapter goes back and forth between the past and the present, which I normally like in a thriller, but not in this one. It was so slow at some points I felt like I was waiting forever for the revelation of the all the questions I had. It just felt like it was dragging a lot. I almost decided to DNF the book, but kept pushing through to find out exactly what happened to Iris’s sister. I wasn’t blown away by the ending at all.

Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher is the story of a twin who loses her sister at birth. When her sister is abducted and trafficked, the police show little to no interest in the case, and Iris has to take the investigation into her own hands. This lands her on Shoal island, where she's an intern for the criminally insane, but things take a crazy twist when she falls in love with the man who killed her sister.

All in all, I thought Good Half Gone was good, but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend or read it again, which is why I gave it a three-star rating.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own

Caption: Iris Walsh saw her twin sister get kidnapped—so why does no one believe her?

I do so love a good Tarryn Fisher novel. This was a good read but it didn't thrill or frighten me. On the one hand, I loved the sister trying to get to the truth. Even if it meant putting her life in danger. I enjoyed the setting of a mental institution on an island that could only be accessed by ferry and giving that feeling that there is no escape- for the patients OR the employees. On the other hand, I saw what was coming and it left me a little bit disappointed.

I think if I was recommending a Tarryn Fisher novel it wouldn't be this one.

It would be Atheists Who Kneel and Pray which is a different genre and vibe but it was my first read of hers and I adore it. 😉

good half gone- Tarryn Fisher

irish walsh watches her sister get kidnapped, but no one will believe her. after escaping the fate of her twin sister, kidnapped and trafficked- iris wants answers. the police won’t help and with a teenage memory, the case goes cold. now as an adult, iris is determined to figure it out on her own, but can she find the answers before it’s too late..

going between past and present, this book was very fast paced. i was intrigued throughout the whole story, and certainly didn’t see the twist coming!
the plot, story line and character development were unique, but executed very well.
this was such a great book.. tarryn did not miss with this one🤩

I enjoyed this thriller. It had mystery, action, suspense, and a few good twists. The characters weren't necessarily relatable, but they were easy to follow and understand. It was easy for the reader to become invested in their stories.

Some very horrific subjects were mentioned, but the story did not dive deep into them. So, while the subjects were upsetting, they were not particularly descriptive, so the reader could remain at a distance.

The story wasn't completely realistic, but that helped the story, and its deeper subjects remained lighter and helped the book be more entertaining rather than emotional.

I wanted to know what happened and finished the book in 2 sittings. I listened to the audiobook along with reading and must say that the narrator was very good. All together, I gave this book 4 solid ⭐️.

As always, I would like to thank Netgalley and Harlequin publishing for giving me an advanced ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This one is super twisted with kidnapping, trafficking and even an insane hospital. As an adult, a twin sister will stop at nothing to find out what really happened to her sister.

The cops in this novel really bothered me. Why won’t you believe Iris? Why won’t you look for piper? Is there a reason or are you all just irritating and won’t do your job?
This book was a little slow bouncing back and forth between the past (dealing with losing piper) and present.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Enterprises for an ARC ebook in exchange for my honest opinion. This book wasn’t a favorite but I am so glad I was able to get a chance to read this book.

Iris's twin sister is kidnapped when she was fifteen. No one believed Iris and the case went cold. After Iris graduates and goes to college she believes that her sister is dead and the only person that can tell her what happened is in a hospital for the criminally insane. As part of college she accepts an internship at Shoal Island with the hope of talking to her sister's killer. Is her sister dead? What really happened?

This is a thriller that gets a slow start for me. When you invest in the characters you then want to know what happened to Piper? Is she dead or alive? If she is dead what really happened? This is a domestic thriller that many people will like reading.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #TarynFisher and #GraydonHouse for a copy of this book.

I'll start by saying I wasn't expecting that! Not in a bad way, not in a good way either. The book was well written, but I didn't care much for the writing style (personal preference). I don't care for books that read in a dear diary sort of way. In the way of I don't like the day to day this is what is happening. With that said, the storyline was interesting. I wish it would have given more information about what happened in the past. More revelations on what had happened to her sister. I did enjoy the ending it was more exciting than the rest of the book, though it felt a bit unbelievable. I don't much care for the main character. I felt she was a little flat. Not much to her personality, but I suppose her life was completely taken over by the obsession of what happened to her twin. I know I'd feel the same way if something had happened to one of my triplet siblings. In that way, I did feel a connection to the book, like the sisters felt a connection to each other. People who are not multiples do not understand that feeling. That's one of the reasons I was drawn to the book. All together, I enjoyed it. 3.75/5 round up to 4. Thank you, netgalley, for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

Once again Tarryn Fisher excels, this time weaving a melancholy but captivating tale about a set of twins (being raised by their fiercely devoted Grandma, my favorite character) who are violently torn apart on what seems an average get-together for the teens on a basic weekend outing.

Unfortunately for both twins, and for the remaining family, the police are terribly lackadaisical when it came to prioritizing the teen's kidnapping, despite the fact that the entire abduction was witnessed by the girl's sister. The failure of the police to view the situation as a real crime early on caused clues to be forever lost in what could hardly be called an 'investigation". The police department's unwillingness to perform even a basic investigation caused irreparable damage by creating an emotionally devastating, festering wound in the remaining family.

The twin left behind becomes the heroic Good Half Left by devoting her youth to finding out what happened to her sister, and by doing so, she began to finally grow beyond the shadow of her sister's loss.

As always, the author draws us skillfully in to yet another wonderful novel, one you are almost physically incapable of putting down until you have greedily consumed every word.

I’m gutted that the first Taryn Fisher book I read is such a letdown. I will not let this experience stop me from giving her work a second chance.

With that being said, this book was a flop. The premise was intriguing: Iris is looking for the killer of her sister who was abducted when they were just kids. The system and criminal justice let both girls down, and left Iris with unanswered questions. Years later, she ends up working on an island at a facility for the criminally insane, where she knows the person who is responsible for her sister’s death resides. The place is creepy and filled with both patients and staff members who are…eccentric. It was supposed to be fast-paced, dar and suspenseful. However, the first 60% of the book were the most uneventful pages of a thriller that I’ve ever read, and I already knew exactly what the ending was going to be.

The pacing of the book was off, there were too many pieces of unnecessary information that led to absolutely nowhere and did not add to the story in a productive way, there were little to no twists and turns required of a thriller, and ultimately the ending was too rushed and far-fetched. I absolutely hated Iris and thought that she was delirious, obnoxious and immature. Lastly, the romance part of the book was cringey and unnecessary.

Unfortunately, this is not a book that I would recommend.
