What would you do to find the truth of your twin that went missing 9 years ago ? I absolutely loved this! It kept me on my toes and interested the whole time. I loved Iris point of view and the ending left me mind blown!
This book wasn't really my cup of tea. I really struggled to get through it until probably the last 20% of the book. At that point, it picked up and became a lot more interesting. It had some great twists and turns, and a good ending. I can't say that it's a bad book, because others might be hooked a lot earlier than I was. Overall I think it was decent book, just not one of my favorites.
*The formatting was also very off. It may be because it's still an early copy, but I wanted to point it out, just in case.*
This was an absolutely amazing, riveting psychological thriller! The story starts out very simple with a twin who has gone missing, and then takes off in sooo many different directions that I couldn’t put the book down. The ending of the book was a total shocker.. just the way I love my psychological thrillers!I think my jaw was on the ground! You don’t want to miss this one! Many thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for providing me an advanced copy in exchange for my review.
Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher is compelling. I was unable to put it down. Although the story was unrealistic, it was still wildly entertaining. Tarryn Fisher is able to write characters who are realistic, very human, and relatable. I was definitely shocked by the plot twist and overall entertained. I would read her other books without hesitation.
I like this book I found it twist and engaging but felt it had too many characters but it did keep you guessing till the end .
Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House for an ARC copy of Good Half Gone in exchange for an honest review!
This was the first novel I’ve read of Tarryn Fisher but I’ve heard a lot of good things about her books. I’m also always on the hunt for thriller authors that I like so I was excited to read a new author!
I like that it started out strong and I was hooked on the storyline of what happened to the sister Piper. I was invested in tying to figure out where she went; I could feel the frustration from Iris and the grandmother with the police and then you have Iris desperately needing to infiltrate this high security facility. As the story goes on, I felt like it lost a little momentum for me and I was having a hard time getting through. Weird things start happening and the people that work there are abrasive towards Iris. Then there’s the notorious ward D that Iris is very intent on getting into but we don’t initially know why. And then you have Iris hooking up with Dr. Leo.
The fact that Bouncer does botox just seemed to be sprinkled in a little too late in the story. It felt very convenient that it was dropped in there and then shortly after the readers find out that the doctor is actually this notorious person from ward D who has managed to overthrow all the workers and overtaken the whole high security facility with the help of botox…? Aside from the botox, that whole “present time” story reminded me a lot of Ward D by Freida McFadden (inmates or patients overtaking the ward).
The ending was a little frustrating. I liked that we found out the truth about what actually happened to Piper but it was just wrapped up too fast, there needed to be something more. I feel like there could have been more character development throughout.
Overall, I wanted to be thrilled but it was just missing something for me. I will, however, try reading another one of Tarryn Fishers novels in the future!
Let me start by saying I love this author and she is one of my favorites but this book was not her best book for me. I have enjoyed her other books so much more. While I did enjoy this book overall I just found it to be to choppy and jumping around a lot more than I prefer. Still a very good book and I am so honored and happy to have had the opportunity to read it. Thank you to the author and the publisher and to Netgalley!
WOW! I have read and enjoyed several of Tarryn Fisher’s crazy, twisty stories, but 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘯𝘦 was my favorite. Though I had tiny bits figured out, the big picture was mind blowing. The 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 point of view was emotional and frustrating. The
𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 HOTI setting was perfectly dark and eerie. I was interested from the get-go, and excited to pick it up every chance I got. I think I’ll have a book hangover after this one.
I wanted to like this book more because the plot itself could have been really interesting, but I was getting lost in the cast of characters in the institution. The chapters that alternated between the past and the present were pretty abrupt so it made it difficult for me to keep a flow in the reading. There are definitely some clues that might lead the reader to guess the outcome so I wasn't as surprised by the ending as I could have been.
Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher is a fun, twisty ride. Suspending disbelief is easy to do when the characters are this interesting. The ending is what really made me love this book and I wasn’t expecting it. The writing is strong and the creepy atmosphere felt like another character. I’m excited to read more by Tarryn Fisher.
Even though the story seems a bit forced at some points, I do like the premise of this book. Iris twin sister Piper goes missing and Iris decides to dedicate her life to find out what happened to Piper. Since the police doesn’t seem to care, she embarks on a years long investigation of her own.
I really enjoyed this book! The main plot of the story, the missing sister, was interesting already. Add to that a mental hospital for the criminally insane and it becomes a high-energy thriller that had me on the edge of seat. The big plot twists at the end were well-done and unique, if a bit far-fetched. Thank you to NetGalley and Graydon House for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
4/5 stars
Thank you Graydon House for the advanced reading copy!
SYNOPSIS -- Nine years ago, Iris was considered lucky to escape the fate of her twin sister: kidnapped and never to be seen again. With the police only halfway investigating and secrets up to her eyeballs, Iris wants answers. While she has her suspicions, she's lacking one very important thing: proof. Enter Iris's new job at Shoal Island Hospital for the criminally insane. Here, she believes she'll find both her answers and her sister's killer. What she doesn't expect to find, however, is a plot even thicker than she can imagine.
I really loved most of this book, but some parts were so absurd??? The whole first 70% was super interesting and I could NOT stop reading. It was definitely more slow burn, building suspense, but kept me totally hooked the entire time. Tarryn Fisher can paint a picture and the ones she was painting in this book gave me chills. I love dual timelines and both the past and the present were super engaging, but I especially loved the present. The Hospital setting was so fascinating, as were all of the characters Iris interacted with there.
The ending was RIDICULOUS, in partially a good and partially bad way. Let me tell you, you'll never guess where things are going before all hell breaks loose. This part of the book became harder to follow and even harder to predict. I think we lost a bit of the writing nuance here, and it felt like a subpar ending to a book with a lot of depth. That being said, I really liked this book and enjoyed all of it, just wish the ending had been a tad different.
WOWZA!!!!! Tarryn Fisher is a must read author for me and this book did not disappoint! Iris and Piper are twins and when Piper is kidnapped, the police don't believe Iris. Iris is determined to find out what happened to Piper. There are so many twists and turns to this story that I did not see coming. I read this book in 2 sittings and lost sleep trying to find out what was going on! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
This book had a great premise, but many situations needed to be more accurate to real life. The story of a desolate prison mental hospital is unreal to me. The ending arrived with all the information at once and a mix of situations that felt off. Still, it was interesting, and I enjoyed reading it.
Tarryn Fisher never disappoints! Her stories will always take you on a thrilling ride.
I loved this psychological thriller! It is full of suspense and will keep you guessing until the end. I enjoyed the dual timelines and the main character, Iris. The creepy atmosphere was the cherry on top!
Thank you for my copy, @netgalley
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!
I was interested in the premise of the book. I do enjoy reading about different families and the stories that they bring.
However, this was very convoluted and confusing. There were too many distracting plot points that took away from the original premise of the story. I felt for Iris and her journey, but I didn't always believe her.
The ending...just no. I thought it was way too far-fetched and it didn't work for me.
I was excited to see Tarryn Fisher was having a new book coming out! A twin sees her sister get kidnapped and spends much of her time trying to find out who took her and why. When she believes she knows the culprit, she gets a job on an island that houses the criminally insane so she can confront them. It starts out strong but becomes pretty slow for quite awhile until about 80-90%. Then the last 10-20% you have to sit and read all at once because it’s gooooood.
Thank you @TarrynFisher, @GraydonHouse and @NetGalley for a free e-ARC. The opinions are mine alone and not biased in any way.
I was really excited to read this book, especially after Colleen Hoovers praises! Overall, this was a good read and I enjoyed it. However, the grammatical errors, random spacing and new paragraphs that started in the middle of a sentence made it extremely hard to finish. I hardly could focus on the story without being bothered by all the gramatical errors. I don’t agree with a book being allowed to be available to review on this site without a basic edit. It’s very hard for the reader to give their true feedback when it was painful to read. Overall, it was a good book with an exciting story line. I gave it three stars to be fair.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Iris Walsh saw her twin sister, Piper, get kidnapped—so why does no one believe her?
“Iris narrowly escaped her pretty, popular twin sister’s fate as a teen: kidnapped, trafficked and long gone before the cops agreed to investigate. With no evidence to go on but a few scattered memories, the case quickly goes cold.
Now an adult, Iris wants one thing—proof. And if the police still won’t help, she’ll just have to find it her own way; by interning at the isolated Shoal Island Hospital for the criminally insane, where secrets lurk in the shadows and are kept under lock and key. But Iris soon realizes that something even more sinister is simmering beneath the surface of the Shoal, and that the patients aren’t the only ones being observed…”
A solid psychological thriller by @tarrynfisjer. I loved Iris’s character development but at times the storyline seemed far fetched (and then I reminded myself that’s what a good fiction writer can do!) Despite a predictable ending there were a few surprising plot twists along the way.
