Ooo this was definitely a creepy read from Tarryn Fisher. I enjoy her writing style and think that her writing comes alive on the pages with how she creates her characters. I enjoyed the storyline of this one but will say it became slow at times. Overall, great read!
I want to express my appreciation to Net Galley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced readers copy of "Good Half Gone" by Tarryn Fisher.
Regrettably, I encountered difficulties while trying to navigate through this book, grappling with a persistent sense of confusion. The author's attempt at cryptic storytelling, intended to add depth, unfortunately heightened the bewilderment for me.
The narrative felt disjointed, and the ending struck me as implausible. The writing lacked engagement, and the overall content left me feeling perplexed. Ultimately, "Good Half Gone" did not resonate with me, and it came perilously close to being added to my list of unfinished reads.
First we’ll start with the blurb to give an idea of the premise of the book. “Iris Walsh saw her twin sister, Piper, get kidnapped-so why does no one believe her? Iris narrowly escaped her pretty, popular twin sister's fate as a teen: kidnapped, trafficked and long gone before the cops agreed to investigate. With no evidence to go on but a few scattered memories, the case quickly goes cold. Now an adult, Iris wants one thing-proof.”
The book does jump between the past/present. It starts with Iris as a teenager calling the police to report her twin being kidnapped. Then we have Iris is in her 20s working at a private hospital for the criminally insane and trying to find the proof to prove what happened to her sister all those years ago. Overall I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to those looking for a quick thriller.
Thanks to netgalley and HarperCollins Canada for allowing me to read this book.
This one sadly didn't work for me, I was pumped when I heard Tarryn had a new book, I didn't like the jumpy feel to the book, it felt displaced and the writing felt forced, it was all over the place. No thank you from me.
Wow, not entirely sure what I just read.
This book was all sorts of wild. Definitely slower for the first like 70% of the book, but in a good way. I enjoyed the dual time lines and the build up to the end. The slow burn definitely worked. Then the ending just went off the rails. It was slightly outlandish but still a lot of fun. Was it the most believable? No. But still very entertaining. A solid 4 star read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kill Crime Club for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
Thanks Netgalley for the ARC! I enjoyed this story. Although, I didn’t find it deep or thrilling, it was a fun, entertaining read!
I am not 100% sure of what to say about this book. It starts off with a bang. Iris witnesses her sister being kidnapped and no one seems to believe her. But somewhere along the way, it loses the suspense and just seems long. However, towards the end it picks up at a fast and furious rate. Overall the book was good. However, there is something I just couldn’t get into.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the eARC. #Netgalley #GoodHalfGone #TarrynFisher

As always, Tarryn Fisher does it again. I enjoyed this book tremendously, pouring through the pages trying to figure out what was going on. Then plot twist and ending was good, I just wished the book had ended a few pages sooner. I felt that wrapping up the book with a pretty little bow did not do the story justice. I can’t wait to hear what others have to say about it.
Thank you so much to Tarryn Fisher and the publisher for letting me have an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I had mixed feelings about Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher, the main feeling being disappointment.
The story started strong, with a plot I could really get into, but became disjointed and confusing. The plot jumps from one scene to the next without smooth transitions, making it difficult to follow.
While some subplots didn't add much to the main story, the premise was intriguing: a woman obsessed with finding her twin sister who was kidnapped years ago. However, the ending fell flat and felt absurd.
I encourage you to read this book and form your own opinion, as many readers have enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House for an ARC copy of Good Half Gone.
This book left me breathless towards the end! I loved how strong Iris and Gran were. This book kept me hooked from the start. Lately, I have been reading lots of books I enjoy until they end. This book was not only entertaining to read but had a satisfying ending in my opinion. I will be on the lookout for more books by Tarryn Fisher. Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Tarryn Fisher, and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
This was a fast read for me and I was interested in reading how the story would be resolved. I feel there were a few elements that were meant to surprise. I made educated guesses but wasn't sure of how to make the connections...I just "knew". It is a story of twins where one is abducted (Piper) and the other twin (Iris) is the only witness who it seems no one truly believes. It is Iris' story of how she felt and what she did to make peace with the tragedy. There are police who Iris feels are incompetent but she is compelled to keep in touch with Poley while she continues to look for clues. It has a dual timeline...past and present which eventually meet in the grand finale where all is revealed. Although Iris has vulnerabilities, she is strong female character, as is her grandmother. I would recommend this novel.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Synopsis:
"Iris Walsh saw her twin sister, Piper, get kidnapped—so why does no one believe her?
Iris narrowly escaped her pretty, popular twin sister’s fate as a teen: kidnapped, trafficked and long gone before the cops agreed to investigate. With no evidence to go on but a few scattered memories, the case quickly goes cold.
Now an adult, Iris wants one thing—proof. And if the police still won’t help, she’ll just have to find it her own way; by interning at the isolated Shoal Island Hospital for the criminally insane, where secrets lurk in the shadows and are kept under lock and key. But Iris soon realizes that something even more sinister is simmering beneath the surface of the Shoal, and that the patients aren’t the only ones being observed…"
Review:
First off, thank you @netgalley and @tarrynfisher for this advanced reader's copy!!
This book was definitely a slow burn and it took me some time to feel connected to the characters and the story. For much of the book, there was a sense that "something" was just around the corner.
I would say it was the last 20% of the book before the story took off. This was my first Tarryn Fisher book and WOWZA! If this is the type of massively unexpected plot twists and explosive endings she brings her readers, I AM HERE FOR IT. I must confess I wondered about the potential of one plot twist in the midway point of the book, but then I decided there was no way that would happen and I was just being paranoid. Even with that little glimmer of suspicion I had, I was in no way prepared for what was to come.
My best advice: don't start reading the last quarter of the book if you don't have time to finish it. I promise you won't want to put it down till it's finished! I stayed up later than I planned - totally worth it! This book comes out on or about March 19th...I definitely recommend picking up a copy when you can!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really liked the premises of the story.
A twin tried to understand why her sister was taken from the movies by a bunch of guys.
She has made it her life’s mission to figure out what happened to her sister. She goes as far as to get a job on an island which houses an insane asylum to where the man she thinks might hold the answers she is looking for.
The story itself was unbelievable in so many ways. I found there were so many characters who had a lot of details but had nothing to do with the story.
I did enjoy the nice twist in the end. So 3 stars for the story
Edge of your Seat Good!!!
Thank you NetGallary for an early review copy of Good Half Gone!
If you like a good triller this book is for you!
This is one of the best books of the year!
A very twisted ride!
I could not turn the pages fast enough! This book is filled with twists and turns and I loved every second of it!
You know a book has you hooked when you are thinking about it when your not reading it and can’t get back to reading it quick enough! Well, this is that book!
Tarryn Fisher knows how to draw you in and keep you hooked!
Well done! No spoilers with my review! This is a must read for 2024!
This story is about Iris, a girl who watches her twin get abducted and no one takes her seriously. She spends the next decade looking for justice, ending up with an internship on Shoal Island Hospital for the criminally insane. She takes matters into her own hands and is trying to get close to the man she believes killed her sister. Leaving her grandmother and son at home, she works to get into the secure unit where the most dangerous criminals are kept. However, there are roadblocks, and Iris has to be careful or she will be in just as much trouble as her sister was.
The story was fragmented to me and would hop around to different times and locations without warning. This made the story very confusing. I wanted suspense and that just wasn’t in the cards. After The Wives and this one, Fisher just isn’t for me.
Good Half Gone is an intense thriller centered around Iris Walsh who is determined to piece together the events around her twin sister's kidnapping. The story jumps back and forth between the past, when Piper was taken, and the present. We learn early on that Iris has lived her life, with every decision being calculated and deliberate, in order to uncover the truth. What follows is a gripping story filled with twists and turns as Iris navigates what little evidence remains of her Piper's cold case. The question is will she crack the case? Or suffer the same fate as her twin.
This was my first Tarryn Fisher thriller and you can be sure I'll be back for more!

This is my third Tarryn Fisher novel. I really liked "The Wives" - my comment after reading it ~
I love psychological thrillers and this is a page turner that didn’t disappoint. I actually like dark and twisted.
~ It’s f-bombs that I don’t like!
The other was "The Honest Lie". I went into this with high expectations!
Story open when the Walsh twins Iris and Piper were fifteen and go to the movies.
Piper is kidnapped in front of the movie theatre and Iris witnessed it. She calls 911 and they ask a lot of questions – color –make of car van sedan – two four doors- how many men?
Iris answers their questions but is scared and not positive. The officers really don’t believe Iris especially as her memory isn’t all that clear. They think Piper ran away and the case is dropped filed with cold cases.
Anyone who is a twin or knows twins is aware they communicate without speaking or in their own twin language so no surprise that now as an adult Iris is determined to find what happened to her sister the half gone.
Story did keep me interested - true I didn’t like the nasty language but I expected it.
We were given several clues so it wasn’t a big shock.
I always like when an author gives insights as to how they come up with ideas. I do like to read the Author’s Acknowledgements. However, since this is an early uncorrected proof, it isn’t included; perhaps will be in the final draft. I will check it later after released in March!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing – Graydon House for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 19, 2024.
Synopsis: Iris and Piper were twins who had a rough life growing up. Piper was then abducted from a movie theater and it was up to Iris to find her sister.
Thoughts: This book was a struggle to finish. I felt the general idea of the story was intriguing, but the amount of details, the very slow first 80% of the book and the rush to get it all solved and finished was not my favorite. A lot of the details did not make sense, dialogue was confusing… this could have been so much better but it wasn’t.
Thank you to Tarryn Fisher, Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced copy!
3.5 stars for me. The beginning and middle of the book were excellent and kept my attention. Towards the end, I felt the twist was predictable but also very outlandish.
This book is suspenseful from the very beginning! I really enjoyed the POV switching back & forth between Past & Present. I felt this really allowed you to get to know the characters & understand the plot. The mystery surrounding the storyline keeps you guessing throughout the entire book. The end throws you a twist you really don’t see coming!!
l'd like to thank Harlequin Trade Publishing, NetGalley, and Tarryn Fisher an ARC. All opinions are my own. Expected Publication date March 19, 2024
