Couldn’t put this one down. A great thriller that really grabbed my attention. A unique story with some twists throughout.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 3 stars
I really wish I could say that I loved Good Half Gone because I enjoy reading Tarryn Fisher's work, especially her indie stuff, but this one was "okay" for me.
It starts off strong with a kidnapped twin and a sister hell-bent on bringing her justice, and the Shutter Island type setting of a secluded psychiatric facility provides an atmosphere I crave.
But, after a fast start that got me hooked, it slows way down and bounces from past to present with a lot of extra stuff seeming to kind of fill the space. In the last twenty percent or so, the action picks back up and I'm hooked back in, but the high is short-lived.
In Tarryn fashion there are some twists, but in this instance they just didn't work for me. It felt too far-fetched; leaving me like "what the...???", instead of "WHAT THE...!" As someone who has worked as a nurse in a psychiatric facility and in the forensic unit of that facility, it was hard to get over the implausibility of it all, despite knowing this is a work of fiction.
There are a lot of repeated lines and information that lent to a sense of redundancy, but I was reading an uncorrected proof, so hopefully this is something that will be addressed in the final proofing.
Again, I adore Tarryn and her writing is usually on point for me, but Good Half Gone just didn't quite hit the spot.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Graydon House, and the author for this digital Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

First I’d like to thank Netgalley and Grayson House books for the ARC.
This was my first Tarryn Fisher book although The Wifes have been on the TBR forever. This book caught my attention from the very begging. I loved the characters especially Gran, Cal and Iris and felt their little family was so great.
I felt like the story dragged a little in the middle and the story wasn’t progressing as fast as I would like it to and then the last 30% hit and it was just one twist and turn after another.
I found the story a little disjointed as it skipped around a lot but once I got the feel for the book this didn’t bother me too much.
Overall it was a fun thriller read and I will definitely be picking up her other books in the near future.

I don’t like giving books one stars but this book was boring and completely unbelievable. I finished and wondered what I had read. The characters are dull. I’m so sorry but no no no

This thriller had me on the edge of my seat! Tarryn Fisher creates a plausible mystery - when Iris's twin sister Piper is kidnapped no one really cares nor helps. Iris is left with her grandmother and the hope that someday Piper returns. As an adult, she is sure Piper is deceased and it's more important to her than anything else that she prove it.
She is so dirven that she gets hired as an intern at the small Shoal Island Hospital of the criminally insane. Her prey is incarcerated there, she just has to get to him. Fisher created a truly awesome novel up to the very end. I cared very deeply for all of the characters and found the story to be really interesting and believeable. That last 10 percent though, things go off the rails and I couldn't stay in the book. I wouldn't even normally mention something negative like this but the first 80-90 percent was SO GOOD, I am still thinking about Iris, her child, her grandmother and the friends she made at the hospital. It's worth reading, in my opinion, especially on a wintery or stormy night!

This is great for those who want a story with suspense, tension, and intriguing timelines. The dual timelines certainly add a lot of depth. While the thriller excels with well-crafted plot elements, I didn't love the ending: it just felt a bit too far-fetched. Regardless, I enjoyed this one!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I've heard good things about Fisher, so I was excited to try one of her books. The pace was fine, but the twists were predictable. The characters were one dimensional, and the transitions between past/present were choppy and unevenly developed. I expected more suspense. Too much suspension of belief moments made this miss the mark for me. I may consider checking out other books by this author.

She’s done it again! Another five star read from Tarryn fisher ! Great plot and great building of characters !

Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher
-Releasing March 19!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quick synopsis: Iris Walsh witnesses her twin sister get kidnapped when they were teens, but no one believes her. Years later, Iris has an opportunity to get proof and face the man she believes is responsible; How far is she willing to lose herself in the process?
-This book’s setting gave me Shutter Island vibes.
-What I love about reading Tarryn Fisher’s stories is how she writes her characters like they are onions (stick with me): you find bits and pieces of them revealed one layer at a time as the chapters advance. I loved how she subtly revealed things about the characters (especially grandma😂when you read it you’ll know)
-& The ENDING of this book👏👏 so good and spiral twisty!

Unfortunately this has not been a favorite book of mine. I feel like it had a lot of potential, but overall the story just moved way too slowly for me. While I wasn’t expecting the ending that happened, it still did not amaze me.
This book has so many wonderful characters and I felt really connected to Gran, Iris and Cal. As well, the staff at Shoal were captivating. However, the story seemed dragged out.
While it had some suspense elements, nothing really gripped me or caused me to feel the need to keep reading. I did finish this book by the end and while I am happy I did, I did not feel the satisfaction that I have when I normally read thriller novels.
The writing itself is wonderful though, and I will definitely be looking at other Tarryn Fisher novels.
Thank you Net Galley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the advanced copy of this book!

If you have ever read a Tarryn Fisher novel, my review will not come as a shock. She has nailed it, again! Tarryn has such an incredible way with words, plots, and characters. I feel inadequate writing a review of her book, because her way with words is so strong. Just when I thought I had the plot and characters figured out, BAM.

Got this book as an ARC on Net Galley. I like this author so was very interested in reading it.
The book is about twin sisters. One is kidnapped and the other is left trying to figure out what happened. This takes her to a mental hospital on an island where she hopes to one day be allowed into the ward where they hold the violent criminals so that she can find out what happened to her sister.
I enjoyed the parts about the sisters son and her grandmother and even the part about her work in the hospital. However, I found the ending a little implausible but I am hoping that since this is an ARC that the ending can be cleaned up a bit and more detail added so that it will be more believable.

The twists! My goodness. I was clutching my pearls by the middle of this book, and absolutely flabbergasted by the end. We follow Iris, a woman who, as a teen, witnessed her twin sister be kidnapped. The police didn't take her seriously. Obsessed with finding her sister, she takes an internship at a psychiatric hospital that houses someone she believes was involved. It was absolutely gripping. 5 out of 5!

With any Tarryn Fisher book you never know what you're going to get, but one thing is absolute that you can’t predict anything and the only way one would be able to finish reading it is by sitting on the edge of their seat; because holy moly the suspense was NON-STOP. Every page needed to be turned. Every WORD needed to be read. I couldn’t put it down!

☯️Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher OUT 3/19/24 ☯️
Thank you Graydon House and NetGalley for the advanced copy
A snow day read! Binged Tarryn Fisher’s new one today and it was your typical “who done it” thriller which was just what I needed today!
This story focuses on main character, Iris, who witnessed her twin sister Piper get kidnapped when they were 15. Of course police believed she was a runaway, and the case was never solved. Fast forward to present time, and Iris has to take solving her twin sisters case into her own hands. She does this by interning at a mental hospital for the criminally insane, where she believes the answer to her sister disappearance is.
I thought Iris was a BADDIE and loved her character. I also love the twin aspect of it and flashing from present to past time. I got some of the inmates/ other nurses confused as there was a lot to keep track but I enjoyed the ending and didn’t see it coming! This will be a great thriller when it reaches bookshelves in March. 4 out of 5 ✨

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/Graydon House for the ARC! The queen of thrillers - Tarryn is back with a great book. Suspenseful, exciting, and great character development. I very much enjoyed this one.

Put this one on your list. It comes out March 19, 2024. I can’t give much of a review because I don’t want to give anything away, but I highly recommend it. Tarryn is the Queen of plot twists.

This was an exciting suspense novel that was more atmospheric than it was character development. While the twists were predictable, it did not impact the level of sustained interest and pacing of the novel. Taryn Fisher is not afraid to get into dark and twisted topics, and The Good Half Gone is of no exception. Overall, a solid read that will most certainly keep you up late at night reading until the end.

This was a quick, easy read. I enjoyed the twist at the end. Definitely adding Taryn Fisher to my list of authors to read!

I am a big fan of Fisher and have read all of her books so I was eager to read this. Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book at all. After a strong start it quickly became quite boring and dragged on. Then the action finally started and it was quite unbelievable. I also found there to be many unanswered questions and at the end it left me quite bewildered. I will continue to read Fisher and hope her next book is more my taste.
