First I want to thank NetGalley, Penguin Group and Sloan Harlow for my ARC of Everything We Never Said.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought that it was well written and definitely had some twists that I didn’t see coming. It was an easy book to get into and an easy read. I think the author did a great job with this book. Definitely would recommend for YA readers or anyone who enjoys YA books. This was my first book from Sloan Harlow but I definitely look forward to reading more!
Wow! This story was intense. It had a couple of large twists that I did not see coming. I went down the road not realizing where it was going.
The topic of toxic relationships was handled so well, I think I will recommend my granddaughter reading this one. My only reservations were the amount of sex scenes and details that were given. I do believe the point could have been made without the details.
The ending was good. I will look for what this author writes next.
This 👏Freaking👏Book👏Had👏Me 👏In👏It’s 👏Clutches👏
Everything We Never Said by Sloan Harlow has been my Roman Empire for the last 24 hours and I could not read it fast enough! It is the perfect read for fans of Noelle W. Ihli, Gillian Flynn, and Sara Shepard.
This book kept my attention and even though some parts were predictable (for me), the author kept you guessing about your predictions to the very end. I don’t think I’ve ever questioned myself so much as to what I thought was happening and who was responsible. It was a wild ride and I loved every moment of it.
I also think this book does a great job of reflecting the realities of domestic violence relationships, ways people end up in them, and how difficult it can be to leave.

This book started a bit slow but definitely picked up the pace about halfway through. I liked it and was pretty invested but I did predict the ending and it was a tad far fetched. That being said it was a quick easy read.
Thank you @netgalley for this ARC!
𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙨𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: Ella has been struggling to come to terms with the death of her best friend Hayley after their car accident together. Ella has sought comfort in Hayley’s former boyfriend, Sawyer, but the guilt is killing her. She ends up finding Hayley’s diary and you won’t believe what she learns…
Thank you so much to #NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
Ok, so let me start off by saying that I did like the book. It just wasn't earth shattering for me. Everything was fine. In fact, if someone were to ask me how the book was, "It was fine" would be my response. It was very "been there" for me. The writing was good, the story was good, the characters were good, but it was sort of a repeat story for me.
However, I do think it was "fine" enough to recommend it to others.
3.5 stars. Good build of tension and mystery throughout the story, and loved the scenes with Ella and Sawyer. The end was a bit unbelievable and shark-jumping, but overall this was an engrossing read!
This was a really heartbreaking story. I hate to see adults going through situations like this, let alone teenagers who are still learning about themselves and the world. Overall, I think the author did a great job with the execution of this story, considering the triggering themes in it.
My only real complaint is with the story itself. I wish there could have been some type of redemption with the school officials. A lot of kids depend on teachers, coaches, and counselors, and I was hoping that we could have a good guy in the bunch. However, I did love the relationship between the kids and their parents/families. This was a really good one.
I enjoying reading YA books from time to time due to having teenage children. This is a book that would hook by daughter. She is always asking to read Colleen Hoover and this book would be the perfect, age appropriate substitution! Well done!
I'd like to thank Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group | G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a YA thriller that is relatable to Colleen Hoover. I enjoyed the twist and turns this book took and how you weren't sure "who done it". I had my suspicions and was correct but I don't feel like it was obvious.
The story is narrated through mostly Ella's perspective and her missing/deceased best friend Hayley through her diary which I found interesting. As Ella is getting closer to Hayley's boyfriend Sawyer, she finds Hayley's diary in which she is writing about the downfall of her relationship with "S". Ella is caught between having feelings for Sawyer and wanting to solve her best friends disappearance.
I found the dialogue to be hard to get into. While fast paced and having multiple POV's which I enjoyed, the characters lacked. I feel that an audience younger than I am would probably find this to be a great read but being older it had some "omgosh" moments for me.
This was such a twisty book and I loved every second!
Ella and Haley were best friends until an accident one night after a party left Haley dead and Ella feeling responsible. Ella is tasked with cleaning out Haley's bedroom to spare her mother from further heartache, and Ella comes across Haley's journal. She starts reading the journal to find if there were clues as to what was going on with Haley before her untimely demise, and the more she reads of the journal, the more Ella feels guilty and like she is invading Haley's privacy. What's more, is now Ella has feelings for Haley's boyfriend, but as Ella reads more about Haley and Sawyer's relationship in the journal, the more Ella wonders if Sawyer really is who he says he is.
This book was mysterious and sad and tough and touching and just all the things. I devoured this book and I was certain I had everything figured out. But I was wrong, so wrong. I didn't really see the twists coming, and I'm glad because the shock I felt was unexpected and surprising.
Read this book! It was so wonderfully done and I will be thinking about this story for a long time to come.
I received a copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ella and Haley are best friends. Haley has fiercely defended Ella since elementary school. Now Ella is starting senior year without Haley. Haley is dead and Ella was driving. Ella blames herself for the death of her best friend, and she’s falling for Haley’s (ex)boyfriend.
Ella has no memory of the accident. She is finally continuing life while trying to get her memories back. She’s falling in love with Sawyer, but is he actually to blame for Haley’s death?
This book was great! There were some enjoyable twists that unfold as you’re reading. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance and/or thrillers.
I enjoyed this book so much! Not something I would typically pick up but was hearing great things so applied for the ARC. Such a great story and an eye opener for DV awareness
A YA thriller is one of my favorite sub-genres so I was so excited to read this debut novel from Sloan Harlow. Our main character, Ella's, best friend, Hayley was killed in an accident months ago and Ella can't stop blaming herself. At school, she's experiencing so many reminders of her friend and while coping with her loss, she becomes closer and closer with Sawyer, Hayley's boyfriend before she died before she realizes she is falling for him. Through reading Hayley's journal, she learns more about her best friend, secrets that were kept, and that things were necessary the way they appeared to be.
This was perfect for what it is! A great YA thriller that is fast-paced and kept you wanting more. Some of the twists were a bit predictable, but nevertheless, quite satisfying. I'd recommend this to anyone that is a fan of YA thrillers.
Loved this book, kept me very interested from the beginning. This book kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figured out what really happened: a great quick read that you wouldn’t believe what happens! A great read with an ending you won’t see coming!
3.25/5
I have to start off by saying that this book seems like more of a new adult book than a young adult book to me. When you have some of the scenes that are in this book, I feel like it’s kind of pushing the ya boundaries.
I was honestly annoyed through the majority of this book by the main character. Falling in love with your best friend’s boyfriend even as you’re learning all of these things about him seems a bit ridiculous.
The ending did help turn the story around and so that’s why I gave it the rating I did, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to others
This was a well written YA novel. There were two best friends Ella and Hayley. Ella blames herself for the car accident her and Hayley got into and they can’t find her body. Ella starts to get close to Hayley’s ex Sawyer. Ella can’t figure out why something feels wrong. What will she discover when she keeps digging.
Everything We Never Said is a YA romantic thriller about Ella, a 17-year-old high school senior mourning the death of her best friend, Hayley. Complicating manners, she finds herself developing feelings for Sawyer, who was Hayley's former boyfriend. The plot thickens with the mystery surrounding the night of Hayley's death.
The story is narrated from the perspectives of both Ella and Sawyer, and readers get to know more about Hayley through her diary entries. The book explores the relationships between Ella and Sawyer, Ella and Hayley, and Hayley and her boyfriend "S". All of the characters are likable, and each offers a unique take on the events that lead up to the night Hayley died. Themes of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse are also woven into the plot.
The pacing is fast, but the mystery is predictable. I found the dialogue and character interactions painful to read, but this might be because I aged out of the core audience. Moreover, the writing is overwrought with an excess of flowery language, eliciting many an eye roll.
Despite the predictable mystery, there is a good amount of tension and suspense. Overall, this is a decent, if not original, read.
The plot was predictable; I loved the multi pov.’s Super fast pacing and an easy read, some heavy emotional themes
Everything We Never Said was a quick thriller with a good ending. This was an enjoyable read but parts seemed predictable, and somewhat forced. I liked how the author framed the different twists and the story line, but I had trouble feeling sympathy for the main character Elly. I became very tired with Elly’s storyline and was more interested in the other characters. Overall it was a quick read and had good qualities for a fast paced thriller.
"Everything We Never Said" by Sloan Harlow is a deeply emotional and evocative novel that unravels the complexities of love and loss with grace and poignancy. Its powerful storytelling and relatable characters make it a moving and memorable read.
