I had high hopes for this story but sadly I was let down. I struggled through reading this, everything felt a bit too cliche and just too predictable. I don't doubt some people will love this but its just not for me.
This was such a wonderful and enjoyable read!!!! I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was one of those books that I have read and when I was done reading, I knew it was a book that would be long forgotten. It was an ok book but none of the characters are really that likeable. The story line was flat and at times I found myself wondering why I still reading it. I wanted the book to at least give me a little bit of an emotion that could make me like the characters.
I finished it but I know it is one I would never pick up and read again.
Thank you NetGalley, Lucy Knott and Aria & Aries for the Arc of the book
The (Anti) Wedding Party. This is my personal review.
Really enjoyed this rom com however felt that the main character was sometimes infuriating and extremely stubborn. The setting was the best part loved visiting the Amalfi Coast last summer so this was perfect!!
This book was amazing! I love the setting and the characters! I would definitely recommend this book to another romance lover.
A Quaint Romance with a Dash of Predictability in "The (Anti) Wedding Party"
Lucy Knott's "The (Anti) Wedding Party" provides a delightful escapade into the world of romance, blending whimsy with a touch of humor. The protagonist, Andi, begrudgingly navigating the intricate web of matrimony in an Italian villa, offers a unique premise that initially piques the interest of any discerning reader.
Knott's prose skillfully captures the picturesque setting, immersing readers in the beauty of the Italian backdrop. The comedic elements are charming, with Andi's wedding-related misadventures providing moments of genuine amusement. However, the narrative structure often leans towards predictability, adhering closely to the conventional trajectory of romantic comedies.
The characters, particularly Andi and Owen, contribute to the novel's charm. Their shared disdain for weddings and the ensuing banter inject life into the storyline. Despite the enjoyable dynamics, some character arcs and resolutions may feel somewhat formulaic, leaving readers anticipating a more nuanced development.
The novel's strength lies in its ability to evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth, akin to revisiting a favorite, albeit familiar, tale. Andi's gradual transformation from a wedding skeptic to someone embracing the unexpected is portrayed with sincerity, making her journey relatable and endearing.
While "The (Anti) Wedding Party" may not break new ground in the realm of romantic comedies, it still offers a pleasant reading experience for those seeking a lighthearted escape into the trials and tribulations of love. Lucy Knott's ability to infuse charm and humor into her narrative ensures that the novel, despite its predictability, finds a comfortable place in the hearts of readers who appreciate the comfort of a well-executed romance.
Andrea is probably the most down on luck character I have come across in a long time but even so, she still has her support systems to back her up. The (Anti) wedding part by Lucy knott is a fast paced, one time read.
The tile gives away the main aspect of the book and the plot pretty much revolves around the title itself.
Andi was never the one who believed in the institution of marriage, having been abandoned by her father who got married to her mother only because she got knocked up and aborted ship 3 months into marital bliss and finding her own fiancé in the arms of another 3 mins before her own wedding, it’s safe to assume why she has commitment issues.
The book writing style was pretty mediocre as was the plot and the characters. The main characters did not have much chemistry to begin with aside from their mutual distaste for anything marriage related.
Thank you NetGalley for the book,
This story had potential but was unfortunately very mediocre. I found myself struggling my way through this book because it was just boring. I’m really sorry to say it, but that’s the truth. Owen was very cute and wholesome as the love interest, but everything else about this story was just meh. I read and watch a lot of romance and this is nothing I haven’t seen or read a 100 times before. It tries to be funny with the references to Hallmark movies and romcoms, but that’s exactly what this was, a Hallmark kinda story with the quality you can expect from that 🤷🏻♀️
2.5 stars 🌟
Thank you NetGalley and Aria&Aries for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked the idea/premise of the story. The way the Amalfi coast and Italian food were described made me want to pack my bags and go there.
I found it refreshing that Owen wasn’t a typical romance mmc with a body carved my Michelangelo but a sweet normal guy. I also liked that Andi's bisexuality wasn’t an issue for him at all.
However, the second half of the book felt very slow to me and the ending was a bit predictable. I didn’t like the way the heat was described and there was a bit too much sweating for my liking (and I don’t mean THAT kind of sweating).
It was still a good, cute and light romance, though just not my favourite one.
I’m sorry but I really struggled with this book. I had to reread the beginning a couple of times trying to make sense of who the characters were, how they were connected, and what was happening. Right from the beginning there was a negative energy. I tried to plow through the book, but I just couldn’t do it. This book is not for me. I’m really sorry to give a negative review.
This started out very cute and I liked the idea of it. Halfway through I started to get frustrated with the MC's negativity towards love and romance. It seemed like the growth was not happening and she was tearing others down from her feelings/belief. I was not motivated to finish this one because of that.
DNF at 20%. The premise of this story did not align with what the synopsis promised. So I unfortunately I was too annoyed to continue with the story.
Andi is bi and was supposed to get married to her fiance Hannah, but then she walked in on Hannah having sex with her maid of honour so the wedding was cancelled and since then Andi has been anti-romance and anything to do with romance. So much so, that even her best friend is afraid to tell her she's engaged.
Andi is asked to be their maid of honour and she goes to Amalfi for the week of the wedding and they do a bunch of wedding related activities. She also meets the best man, Owen who is also anti-romance.
The two of them get along from the first moment they meet and even run off to have sex during the night of the wedding. It's clear they like each other but Andi is hung up on the fact she doesn't believe in love anymore and Owen is based in Italy while she lives in Manchester.
Eventually she gets over herself and they start dating each other but they agree to take things slowly and it isn't until almost a year later that they finally say they love each other.
The story was ok, I thought Andi was a drama queen and incredibly self involved at times. She knows her best friend, Alex, is a romantic but she puts it down every time it's mentioned, even refusing to watch romcoms with her or read any kind of romance book Alex recommends. While in Amalfi she even goes off on Alex, basically telling her off for not thinking of Andi's feeling first - complete dick move.
Thankfully she comes around and realises that the world doesn't revolve around her and just because one person hurt her, doesn't mean everyone is out to get her.
There was way too much writing about food and how orgasmic all the food was. It detracted from the overall story and we definitely didn't need to know about Andi's battle with digesting cheese. Definitely not a cute or romantic part to any story.
Thanks to NetGalley and Aria & Aries for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
A perfect read for long winter nights. The rain is pouring outside and I’m transported to beautiful sunny Italy. A place I’m very familiar with and kinda wish I was there now. This book was engaging and funny and I really enjoyed it.
Thank you
I had expected a bit more diving into the book. the whole hating wedding theme did not last long and as it was the main topic, the reasons for it should have been more evident. The characters were fine and with a better story would have had a lot of potential in them.
What a cute little easy-read romcom! Andi is staunchly anti-wedding ever since she caught her fiancee in the bathroom with her maid of honor about 5 minutes before they were set to get married- so what's a girl to do when her best friend is getting married?? Enter Owen, the best man in the upcoming nuptials, who ALSO doesn't believe in marriage but might have a little bit of interest in Andi!!!
The vibes of this book were so lovely with an Italian seaside villa as the main setting, a chaotic and frenetic female lead, two very happy and entertaining brides-to-be, and a Harry Styles dance routine for the ages. While some of the stakes were so low that it didn't feel like it should have caused the high level of concern it did (not waking everyone up early for a bus ride- bbgirl, everyone is an adult that can set their own alarms), the story was overall very cute!
Thank you to Lucy Knott and Netgalley for a chance to review this book in exchange for an honest review! This book comes out on March 14th!
The (Anti) Wedding Party is about two individuals, Andi and Owen, who both hate love and they are thrown together to be the maid of honor and best man, respectively, for their best friends' wedding.
Throughout this book, Knott provides the most beautiful descriptions of Italy and the food. The descriptions are so vivid and easy to picture. Unfortunately, the plot and characters fell a bit flat for me. I found Andi, the female protagonist, difficult to relate to and a bit self centered. There were some good moments throughout the book but I would have liked more self awareness and connection between characters.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!
This was a real rom con book and gave me a lot of laughs out moments. The story was set in the perfect romantic setting of Italy.
This is a lovely read. I found it so easy to imagine being there the way the author described everything was fantastic. Great storyline.
Special thanks to Angel Leigh McCoy and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.
Ok, did Andrea's best friend seriously invite her and her mom to an international wedding and then they leave 5 days later? For a week?? This is the one thing that drove me nuts!
Andrea's best friend, Alex, asks her to be her maid of honor in her wedding in beautiful Italy off the coast of Amalfi. Andrea's failed wedding is still deeply burned in her heart. Yes, her fiancee cheated on her on their wedding day. Andi wants nothing to do with another wedding, but her mom and Alex convinced her to go. Alex decides to be the best maid of honor ever except she keeps messing up. Anti Wedding Party is slow to start off, but does get better. Once Andi meets Owen, who is the best man, they begin to build a friendship and help each other making this the best wedding. They both have a lot of humor and banter between the two that in my opinion keep the story interesting. She was also always to hard on herself and had a lot of doubt which was a constant reminder. I love Italy so reading about it in such detail and the food was just perfect. It was very well written in that context.
