Unfortunately I missed book one of the series but having said that I still enjoyed this book very much. This a great book and a great mystery and thriller which I was drawn into. The setting in Cornwall is perfect and the story has plenty of twists and turns and the characters are well thought out and well written. I love the flow and pace of the story and I do wish I had now read the first book although it hasn't affected my reading of this one.
Look forward to the next one and know it will be another great read.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read adn review this book.
The Hidden Graves of St Ives is another great read in this series. I can’t wait for the next book to continue this story.
A Cornwall Murder Mystery book and what a great read! The book makes you feel like you are part of the scene watching it all unfold in front of you.
A clever thriller that had me guessing throughout. Fast paced, engaging and good characters and storyline.
I'm enjoying this series set in Cornwall. It's not quite a cozy mystery but it's not graphic so it's a nice break from heavier thrillers. I liked how Detective Pengelly's personality continues to develop here with her dogs at home, and even more so how her relationship with the rest of the police force team has deepened. The mystery itself was good. The answer seemed obvious early on, but I enjoyed watching the detectives figure it out as the story went on women continued to go missing. It was compelling and the town's dynamics were interesting as the small-town setting started to play into the mystery. I'm looking forward to book 3 in this series.
A huge thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different than anything else I've read recently. I couldn't put it down! I will keep an eye out for this author's future work!
Second book in the series. What I connected to the most was the characters in this one. The fact that a dog was also in the book. Bonus points.
A fantastic storyline with many twists, once I started reading i didnt want to stop. It has believable characters and set in a beautiful location. I look forward to reading more
Detective Lauren Pengelly has really come up against evil beyond belief in this story. Women are disappearing without a trace but while she realises she is facing a serial killer she is unable to find any link between the victims. This read like a real whodunnit and I loved trying to work out why these particular women had been targetted. I wasn't successful and the identity of the murderer came as quite a shock. The pace of the last few chapters had me holding my breath, wondering if they would get there in time to rescue the latest potential victim.. This book is part of a series but could be read as a standalone.
Thanks to Netgalley and. the publisher for an ARC of this book.
This is a good police procedural series and this is a good addition that kept me guessing. I was glad to catch up with the characters and travel to the atmospheric setting.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This was a great story. I really enjoy the police procedural bits, as you can really get involved. The story was fast moving with a great cast of characters. Brilliant conclusion.
Freya Kempston doesn’t return home after her day of shopping and her husband decides to report it to Detective Lauren Pengelly even though 24 hours hasn’t passed. He doesn’t believe she wouldn’t have returned home of her own accord. Lauren and her partner Matt decide to investigate her disappearance and while they are searching for clues, another woman disappears, and then a third.
Lauren and Matt, along with the rest of their team must race against the clock to find out if the three women are connected, knowing that if they aren’t quick, they’re less likely to find them alive.
I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the novel and will look forward to recommending it to others.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #TheHiddenGravesofStIves
Review: The Hidden Graves of St Ives by Sally Rigby
This book was okay. I was looking forward to descriptions of the location, but that fell flat. The mystery was interesting, but the characters were one-note and not very believable. Perhaps if I’d read the first in the series I would have felt differently. I finished reading it so I could know what happened/who the murderer was but I didn’t feel excited or desperate to know. Sadly a miss for me!
Second book in the Cornwall mystery series. Interesting view into how the police team works together to solve crimes.
As we return to Cornwall in the second book of the Cornwall Murder Mystery by Salky Rigby, "The Hidden Graves of St. Ives, Detective Lauren Pengelly and her partner Detective Matt Price are faced with the possibility of a serial killer operating in their town when women belonging to St. Ives go missing one after the other.
In a race against time to find these women, Lauren, Matt and the small team of officers under them do their best to trace their whereabouts, though Lauren doubts that they can be found alive. She is also faced with a personal emergency when one of her dogs gets ill; this situation has a toll on her, to the extent that her team feels the after effects. Will the department be able to identify the murderer despite the few leads they have? What happened to these women?
Rigby has reprised her narrative style in this second installment making the characters grow close to the readers. The development we see in Lauren's character is quite remarkable and it has been done believably by Rigby. I liked to see how she has been opening up, particularly to Matt. The mystery of the case was interesting enough to hold my interest and curious enough to know who is the culprit.
But I just couldn't empathize with the victims nor did it really affect me when Lauren was bogged down by her dog's stay in the hospital.
And that according to me is a big problem with the story the author was trying to write. However, I still enjoyed reading this book and am warming towards the scream
Book 2 in the Cornwall Mystery Series.
Once again I was hooked from the first page. This time we see a softer side to Lauren but one she's determined to keep hidden from the team. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.
As the sun sets into the sea over the pretty Cornish town of St Ives, a young woman, Freya Kempston, hasn’t returned home after a day out in the mall at St Austell. Panicking, her husband begs Detective Lauren Pengelly and her team to find her. Has Freya run out on her stable, loving marriage, or has something more sinister taken place?
Grainy security footage from the mall provides the first break in the case – capturing Freya talking intently with a well-known local mechanic on the day she disappeared. But when cornered, the mechanic denies even knowing her. It's a puzzle that Lauren and her new partner, Detective Matt Price, can't ignore. They scrutinise the video, hunting for missed clues…
Sally Rigby crates a twisty dynamic mystery with intrigue in every chapter. A novel that keeps you guessing and reading late into the night. The characters are easy to follow and likable. The sick dog, in the beginning, pulls you into her empathetic character and makes DI Pengelly very relatable. This fast-paced mystery kept me on edge and right up to the end. I look forward to reading more by Rigby in the future.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of The Hidden Graves of St Ives by Sally Rigby in exchange for an honest review. I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait for the third book to come out. I feel like I am getting more attached to Lauren and Matt and the whole squad.
This was a real short and sweet to the point mystery! I really enjoyed the first one, so u picked this one up easy peasy! The characters are likable and relatable, which always makes for an easy read in my opinion. If you want an OG mystery novel, I recommend!
Thank you for allowing me to review this book. I found it to be an easy read. The story of the missing women and the search for them was fast moving and credible. Lauren and Matt the lead DI and DS appear to have a good relationship, but not to the extent they can not see faults in their thinking.
I look forward to reading more im this Detective series.
