Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you for letting me review this amazing thriller. As always, I was gripped from the first page till the very last, I was on a train whilst reading this, and the ending made me go out loud. Daniel’s books just get better with every single one!
How far would you go to exact revenge for your child? This story is a look at bullying and the effects it has not only on the person being bullied, but the whole family.
When Jacob’s demeanor changes and his parents notice he’s not the happy child he used to be, they confront him and are shocked to find out he’s being bullied by Mason, who has already caused the death of another child by tormenting her to the point of suicide. They make the decision to confront Mason’s parents and things only go downhill from there.
This story is dark and emotionally chaotic. One never knows how they’ll react to a certain situation until they are in the middle of it, and it’s easy to put yourself in the life of this family and feel their pain.
I recommend this book to lovers of thrillers and anyone who loves an engrossing story.
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. You can grab yourself a copy on January 4, 2024.
Sara and Guy are fairly happy in their humdrum marriage and life. Their daughter is away at University, and their son is in high school. He is a happy, friendly teenager, until he isn't happy at all.
Guy notices bruises on Jacob's body, quite by accident, and the truth comes out.
He was thrown to the ground and kicked by a well known bully at school. Mason was responsible for the suicide of a young girl three years before.
Jacob comes home from soccer badly beaten. Again by Mason and is hospitalized.
Guy and Sara decide that something drastic has to change before their son takes his own life.
I have read several of Daniel Hurst's books, and they were good. Entertaining. But this one!
This one I did not only read, I FELT it.
As a parent to a manly, but sensitive son, who happened to have been bullied at school, I felt the heartbreak of these parents.
I felt their need for revenge. I felt their murderous feelings towards the boy and his family who were as bad as him.
No, it is not rational to wish harm on a child, but when your child is hurting, physically and emotionally, it sure feels like you have to step in and do something.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly.
I read it in one sitting, I could not put it down, and still feel the heart break and anger that I felt while reading it.
Quite the twist at the end as well.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
When your fifteen-year-old son, comes home from school and shuts themselves away in their bedroom, what do you do? You know something is seriously wrong, you know your child inside out. And when you finally find out the truth, how much your child is hurting because of a bully, your world is turned upside down. How far will you go to protect your child?
The story is told with each chapter being from Guy’s (Jacob’s dad) or Sara’s (Jacob’s mum) point of view. We follow how the family cope and deal with life, now that it’s changed for them all. Can they stop the bully, Mason? What can they do to put an end to their son’s trauma - kill?
This is a story that had my attention from the very start. I also found this a very hard book to read. Having taken one of my own children out of school due to bullying and lack of help, I genuinely understood the emotions in this story.
Bullying is every parent’s nightmare. No one wants to see their child suffering, whether mentally or physically. I felt the author wrote an outstanding story, which took everyone’s feelings and emotions into account.
The twist was superb, I didn’t see that coming!
All parents want to protect their children, but thankfully, most people wont go to such extremes.
A superb psychological thriller that makes you sit back and think.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
The Couples Revenge: This book by Daniel Hurst is a fantastic read! It focuses on bullying & how far parents would go to protect their children. I couldn’t put it down. And the twist at the end was jaw-dropping!!
The Couples Revenge by Daniel Hurst
Thank you Netgalley for giving me an ARC of this book! I was so excited that I got approved for a Daniel Hurst Book he is one of my favorite authors currently !!
I love the change of perspective between both parents; Sara and Guy. I love getting in their brain and knowing their perspectives of the events that are taking place, and how they understand what is happening to their son Jacob. I definitely couldn’t not put the book down once I started. The book kept me completely immersed.
I feel like a lot of parents will relate to this book. It shows how far parents will go to protect their children. I felt the book twisted and turned and I did not expect the ending whatsoever . It was completely different from what I was imagining. As always I loved Daniel Hursts books! I highly recommend this book to any thriller lover !!
I just love this author's books. It does not matter whether he writes series or a stand alone, I just devour them all.
Each and every time he manages to create stories around every day people you can easily relate to and that's what makes them so attractive to me.
And of course the twists that can be found in them... They are just to die for. :)
Bullying... it happens every day. Men, women, adults or children, they are can become victims and still it seems like it's not something important that should be dealt with once and for all. It's a dangerous thing and it can result in big, life changing disasters.
Revenge... is it something you should consider or should you rely on the system? What would you do if you were in Sarah and Guy's shoes?
Another difficult to put down book. Wonderful characters, great story lines and twists that let my mouth fall open. 5 stars
Thank you
4 Stars out of 5.
The Couple's Revenge started off with a bang and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The story really sucks you in and I had to get to the ending as quickly as I could to find out what happened. I really enjoyed reading The Doctor series by Daniel Hurst and his latest work is just as good. You are on the edge of your seat the entire read. I really felt the pain both the parents and Jacob went thru during the book. The ending was not what I expected but everything was tied up nicely. This book brings up bullying and might be a trigger for some readers.
Jacob enjoyed going to school and activities but one day he comes home and runs upstairs to his room and doesn't say a word. His mom, Sara, knew something was wrong with her son even though he denied it. Eventually, Sara and Guy (Jacobs father) find out their son has been bullied by a known bully, Mason. A little while after Jacob told his parents about the bullying he is severely hurt by Mason again. The parents end up taking things into their own hands.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of The Couple’s Revenge. Daniel Hurst is the BEST!!!! OHMYGOSH his books are soooooooooo intense. I actually felt Jacob's pain, it was heart wrenching. The NOW part was so nerve wracking, I couldn’t read fast enough. Then the ending, WOW!!!!!!! What a Fantastic read, Soooooooo many emotions and gasping for my breath. Thank you sooooo much again. Please do NOT stop writing Daniel.
This book was fantastic. It was definitely a slow start but picked up around halfway through and really had some great twists and captivating storyline. This is another successful Hurst book. It’s worth the read!
I very much empathize with the parents in this story. I’ve had a child be bullied at school, and I even went to their house and told a parent. However, there was never any physical violence, on either side, so I definitely cannot speak to that. Look, I understand wanting to protect your child, but I have a hard time believing that this kind of situation could escalate so quickly. Maybe I just want to assume the best of most people. There were some twists and turns here that I didn’t catch, which I love! This is a fast read that most parents can probably relate to, at least at the beginning…
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Daniel Hurst is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. I was completely invested in this book from chapter one and read the book in just over a day. It was impossible to put this book down. Gripping, thrilling and fast paced, it kept me enthralled to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
4.5 stars
Wowww! What a story! I finished this in less than a day! I could feel the pain the parents went through as well as Jacob. I was so mad for the first half of the book, for all that was happening with their family. I love a good revenge story and this was no different! I had many theories on what happened but did not expect the twist at the end at all! So much fun!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book!
This is what i would describe as a gentle thriller. Typical Daniel Hurst, nothing to taxing, an interesting story and easily read in one sitting. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for the ARC. The publication date is the 4th Jan 2024. Daniel Hurst, does again with another gripping twisty thriller that kept me reading until the very last page the suspense followed by lots of twists and turns kept me reading well into the night.
Overall, a griping book and I read this in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down!!
Pure Daniel Hurst…..but with more than a touch of dark about it
This story looks into how far parents will go to protect their children and what they will do when someone threatens their child’s happiness
Told with the authors usual story telling brilliance that immerses you from page 1 and his ‘what happens to ordinary people when life comes knocking’ this story, for me,was a look into family love and loyalty whilst hovering around the question of why do some teens act they way the do and is it more nurture than nature
The author cannot put a foot wrong in his ability to write and tell a superb story and has yet to write something that isen’t addictive
Another great read
Daniel hurst is amazing. I read anything of his, I don’t even bother to find out what the description says, I know I’ll love it. I especially loved this one because I’m a parent, and this book is about how far parents will go to protect their child. But of course it’s not what it seems…
Wow! Daniel Hurst just doesn't let up with the suspense, stomach tightening and instilling fear! Finished his latest, The Couple's Revenge, in under 24 hours! Compulsive, propulsive and a fabulous read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
What Daniel Hurst does best is write a short, 200-250 page thriller that sucks you in from the beginning and never lets you go till the end. There were so many twists and turns, and I was truly shocked by the ending.
He has easily become one of my favorite authors and this one is no exception. This one focuses on the million dollar question, just how far would you go to protect your child? I would like to say that I would not go as far as murder, but I am not a parent.
When our two main characters Sara and Guy find out that their son is being bullied, and no one is doing anything about it, they just might take matters into their own hands.
This is a true popcorn thriller and can be and should be read in one sitting for the ultimate experience.
“The Couple’s Revenge” is a thriller by Daniel Hurst. I would recommend this book to those who like a good revenge story. I cannot say that, on the whole, I liked any of the people in this book, but it was an okay read. This book is told in alternating chapters from the viewpoint of the two main characters - Sara and Guy. Sara notices that her son, Jacob, is acting strangely and eventually Jacob admits to being bullied by a known bully in the neighborhood. The police and the school are useless, so Sara and Guy decide to take matters into their own hands. While I found some of Sara and Guy’s actions understandable on an emotional level, from a rational “step back and think logically about this” level it was a mess. When the big reveal is, well, revealed, I had to back-track because I missed a key few sentences (that’s what I get for reading late at night). If you’ve read Mr. Hurst’s books before, you can see the reveal coming, though I did like how the set-up played out. This book kept me engaged, but I cannot say it’s my favorite by him. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
