This is a short, slow burn mystery thriller that explores how far parents will go to protect their children. With a twisty surprise ending, you will want to keep reading until the very end. I read it in a day! Some of the narration is a little clunky/unnecessary, but overall, I enjoyed it! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another excellent book by Daniel Hurst! This book deals with a somewhat sensitive subject a child being bullied. It asks the big question, how far will a parent go to protect their child. How far will Jacob’s parents go after he comes home battered, bruised and broken? Will they get away with it?

Do love a Daniel Hurst novel as they are so edge of your seat and work well. This was a short story but kept you entertained throughout. The ending was brilliant - okay I had to suspend belief a bit throughout the whole book but it kept me really interested and it was definitely a one setting read for me.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

I really enjoyed this book! I look forward to reading other books by this author. There were so many twists in this book I didn’t see coming. But then again I rarely can figure books out. I would definitely recommend this book!

The king of thrillers and revenge plots returns following The Doctor's Mistress with a new 2024 riveting standalone—THE COUPLE'S REVENGE! When the family's teen son is being bullied, it escalates and becomes dangerous; they take matters (REVENGE) into their own hands in this emotionally charged, twisty whodunit!

From Before, Now to After told from POV: Sara and Guy.

Meet wife, mother, Sara; husband, father, Guy, and two children, Amber and Jacob. Jacob is now fifteen years old, and Amber is away at university.

Guy and Sara notice that Jacob (almost 16) is acting strange. He is withdrawn and quiet. Is he being bullied? Of course, when questioned, he refuses to say, which may make matters worse.

Within the community, there has been much publicity regarding a bully named Mason, who caused so much pain; a young teen girl, Zoe, committed suicide years earlier due to his horrific bullying. A tragedy. They know the victim's family, and yet nothing was done to the Mason family.

The only thing is they expelled the boy, and he now attends Jacob's school.

When Guy takes his son Jacob out for a football game to get him talking, he notices some bruises on his side. Turns out he was attacked and kicked by Mason. Guy and Sara are very upset, and Guy goes over to Mason's house to confront them drunk and winds up both punching and now arrested. Now, his job is in jeopardy, and he works from home as the video goes viral.

Mason gets expelled from this school, but Jacob is embarrassed and scared of Mason, the bully, and what he will do next. Then, a week or so later, he is attacked at a public park, beaten almost to death, and winds up in the hospital, witnessed by his teammates. Mason again!

In the meantime, while at the hospital, worried over their son, Guy and Sara devise a plan to get rid of Mason since they think the law will not take care of the problem. They cannot be with their son 24/7. They must protect him.

Also, Kevin Atkinson (father of the girl, Zoe, who committed suicide), due to Mason's bullying, says he is glad Guy confronted the boy's family and wished there was a way he could have saved his little girl from this monster before he killed someone else.

Guy begins following Mason to see where he goes and his schedule. He and his wife come up with a kidnapping plan. However, this is Daniel Hurst, and the kidnapping does not go according to plan. Of course, some of the forensics do not get noticed there, but this is fiction. However, someone beats them to the punch.

What the heck happened, and now what will happen to their family?

WOW! Daniel knows how to keep you up late at night on Christmas Eve with NO sleep as you frantically turn the pages to see how this will turn out!

With a mix of humor, domestic family drama, psychological suspense, and emotionally charged topics of bullying and suicide, The Couple's Revenge is another knockout, entertaining domestic thriller that could be ripped from today's headlines. I liked the characters Sara/Guy! What a duo!

How far would you go to protect your family? A cautionary tale.

Hurst fans and fans of Frieda McFadden, Miranda Rijks, and Emily Shiner will enjoy this one.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to listening to the audiobook narrated by a favorite, Imogen Church and George Weightman.

Book Title: The Couple’s Revenge
Author: Daniel Hurst
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Domestic Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: January 4, 2024
My Rating: 3.7 rounded up
Pages: 258
Story starts with mom’s concerns regarding her son – She could tell when my son started hiding things from me. He used to walk to school with a mischievous grin on his beautiful face. Now he avoids eye contact and keeps his head down.

Sara and Guy are parents of eighteen year old Amber and twelve year old Jacob. They are a normal happy family.
Jacob is fun, friendly, and always has a grin on his face; now Jacob walks to school with his head down and comes home from school and goes straight to his room without stopping for anything to eat.
Sara knows that there is something wrong, but Jacob doesn’t want to talk about it.
She asks Guy to speak to him.
Guy is sure nothing is wrong and talks Jacob into having dinner with the family. Guy mentioned that he and some other dads were playing football (aka- Soccer to us) and Kevin Atkinson was with them
When his dad mentions Mr. Atkinson, Jacob drops his fork and excuses himself from dinner.

As for Mr. Atkinson Kevin -three years ago his youngest daughter Zoe took her own life after being
bullying by Mason Burton. Mason’s punishment was being expelled from school.
Now Mason is at Jacob’s school.
.
Sara fears that mentioning Mr. Atkinson’s name reminded Jacob of the bulling he is experiencing.
Guy isn’t so sure about it but later he finds bruises on Jacob. It seems while playing football (soccer) with school friends in the school yard Jacob was kicked several times when he was down. Guy finds out that Mason Burton was the boy responsible,

Sara and Guy believe they need to do something before their own son follows Zoe’s path!
Unfortunately Mom & Dad’s help seems to make things worse for Jacob!

Story slows down a bit in the middle but as it got closer to the end I was reading as fast as my eyes could focus – ended up another Hurst page-turner - he doesn’t disappoint!

Personal Note: I read a lot of thriller and my ‘arm chair detective skills had a strong suspicion as to whodunit. I didn’t have the details but I was correct.

This is my sixteenth author, Daniel Hurst thriller . Yep I am a fan!

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early e-Galley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 4, 2024.

I have some of the authors books saved to read but have not read yet, so when I saw this as an ARC I jumped on it.

I will say, this wasn't my favorite. I do hope that his other works are more intriguing.

I'd say this was an average read for me, at times it dragged and some of the events weren't always that believable.

Overall I would read this author again.

Daniel has done it again. A twisty , fun ride that keeps you holding on tight until the end. I did figure out who did the deed before it was revealed- a good guess- but it was still a great suspenseful story. Horrible people doing the wrong things for the right reasons??? I would recommend it to all Hurst fans and thriller readers! Please keep them coming.

I've read numerous books by Daniel Hurst and when I saw this one on Netgalley I knew I had to request it. Luckily for me, I got it! It'll be out on the 4th of January and I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley.

How far would you go to protect your child? That's the main question that is asked. A son being bullied or worse? A mother who instinctively knows something is wrong. A father who takes some drastic measures. But then, things get worse.

This again was a great read. I was drawn into the story immediately and had to find out what happened next. Some actions by the parents raised some flags, but under pressure, people do stupid things. The characters were alright, but a bit on the surface. The story was just great, loved it.

4/5 ⭐

Fast paced and addictive, this was an engrossing read. As a parent, the helplessness of knowing your child is tormented and bullied and you can’t seem to do anything to prevent it is all-consuming. How far would you go to stop the bullying and deal with the perpetrator? The plot is written from both parent’s point of view so we understand the impact their son’s trauma had on them. The ending was a good twist. Recommended.

The Couple's Revenge by Daniel Hurst is an engaging and entertaining story.
Yet again this was another fast paced and gripping page turner and I read it in one sitting.
A thought-provoking thriller that you can easily picture everything unfolding right in front of you.
The characters are all totally relatable here. Anything Daniel Hurst writes I want to read right away as he’s that good. This book was fantastic and had so many good twists and turns throughout that will keep you engrossed until the very end.

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Another superb psychological thriller from Daniel Hurst. This time we explore what a parent would do to protect their child. The story twists and turns as it progresses through. The twist at the ending was totally unexpected. How Daniel keeps up the prolific story writing of his psychological thriller it's anyone's guess, but hopefully he has more thrills and spills to stretch out nerves to come. With thanks to Netgalley and the author for this ARC copy.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me the opportunity to read the ARC of The Couple's Revenge.

As parents, we would do whatever we thought was necessary to protect our family. The Couple's Revenge was told through the eyes of Guy and Sara, two parents who are worried about their teenage son and are living through a nightmare when their fears come true.

Daniel Hurst did not disappoint with this one, as usual. I was immersed from the beginning and did not want to put this book down. The end was a shock for sure, I did not see that one coming. I definitely recommend.

THE COUPLE’S REVENGE was a quick read with a great set up. The characters were well constructed and sympathetic, and the plot was fast moving through the first few chapters. The ending was a twist, albeit not much of a surprising one. Glad I tried this one but not sure how many more of this author’s I would seek out.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review THE COUPLE’S REVENGE.

Love this authors books and this one was no exception. This was a very quick fast paced read and had me hooked from the very first page. Love this authors dark writing and twists and turns and how he brings the lives of ordinary people to life and makes you think no one is truly who we think they are underneath the surface. The author also highlighted a lot of issues that are prevalent in todays society and brought them out in the open.

Read this in one sitting and couldn’t put it down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Guy & Sara are upset when their teenage son is being bullied by another student, Mason. Mason has a history of bullying and harassing in the past, so Guy & Sara decide to do something about it. A dark story about how far some adults will go to protect their own kids. It was a fast read and I would definitely read more from this author. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC for my honest review. #booksbyashleynicole

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of The Couples Revenge by Daniel Hurst

Wow, not the ending I was expecting at all! I enjoyed this novel, I liked the characters, the plot, the detail. At times it seemed to drag a bit.
The story is told by two of the characters, husband and wife, Guy and Sara. They have 2 kids, Amber and Jacob. Amber is away at college and Jacob is still at home in high school. They find out that their son is being bullied, and he was hurt in the school yard. Guy decides to take matter into his own hands and goes to visit the bullies home and speak to the parents. Well that doesn't turn it so well and Guy and Sara's son is horrified to learn what his father has done, it's only going to make going to school worse for him

I've read books by this author in the past, and enjoyed them, I'd say this was a 3 star for me, at times it dragged a bit and the events weren't always that believable, but I like the author and will continue to read his work. I did like the ending!

Never read a book by this author before so was unsure what to expect, but what I got was a really great story, you feel the emotions from the parents when their son is being bullied and wonder what you would do in their situation. I thought I had guessed the ending but was so far off. Great book and will look out for more from this author.
