This was a solid Daniel Hurst book. I've read all of his books and some I love and some are just ok. This was a just ok for me. I was very sensitive to the teen bullying as I have two teen boys. But the story worked out well and there were some surprises along the way. The big twist at the end was a little out of left field but it is what it is! I'd recommend this to others for a quick revenge story! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Ive only recently discovered Daniel’s books and pleased he has written so many! This is another great read, I was swept up in it from page 1. Tackles sensitive subjects.
Always enjoy a good Daniel Hurst book. They are always very gripping and fast-paced, which is something I appreciate in a book.
This is ok but not my favorite. It focuses on a couple whose son started acting differently and they find that there is a bullying situation. The family seems to be jerks and don’t care about what their son is doing. It’s a quick read but the first part was repetitive and the last part was unrealistic.
I thought that the characters in this book were not very well developed. I didn’t feel like I really understood them, which made their decisions not make much sense to me. It felt like the whole situation escalated quickly and they did some things that no one who reads psychological thrillers would never make. It all felt very shallow and unrealistic to me.
Overall, this was not really the book for me, but I thank Netgalley and the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having loved the Doctor series by Daniel Hurst, I was very excited to receive this ARC of The Couple’s Revenge. Guy and Sara’s son is being bullied. How far will they go to protect their son? This book had lots of twists and turns and a very unexpected ending! Definitely another great read by Hurst! Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this advanced copy!
Thank you for giving me a chance to read early. I felt a bit-shortchanged when I finished the book, because I don't think the book lived up to its potential. I liked the idea of it, but I hate that I was dissatisfied with the way the events transpired. I love how realistic the emotions were from everyone impacted by Mason Burton. I truly empathized with each victim. However, the only thrill I got was at the end when I learned who actually killed Mason Burton and how that played out. I was worried that the couple would be charged and convicted with murder for a hot second, but then felt relief when there was no evidence tying them to the crime. While I didn't enjoy the book personally, I will still recommend it to others because I like to hear other people's opinions too.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this great book. I am a big Daniel Hurst fan, having read many of his books, and this was was by far amazing. There is always a twist (I try to guess, but did not see this one coming) and always keeps me on the edge of my seat. The fact that I read this book in two days is the reason I gave it 5 stars.....I could not stop reading it.
A basic story of revenge when a bully is not stopping from terrorizing others in his class. When Zoe kills herself over it and he doesnt stop, it is time someone puts a stop to this boy's terrorizing of others.....
I myself felt the parents pain and not sure I would not have done the same thing,.... please put it on your TBR list when it is released.
A short and sweet revenge-fueled story Jacob is a happy friendly child but not today.
Sarah knows that there is something wrong, but Jacob doesn’t want to talk to her. So, she asks Guy to come home from work and speak to him. But when husband Guy finds bruises on Jacob and find out that it is a boy called Mason Cross. All he want to do is seek revenge. How far would you go to protect your child?
I don't wanna be dramatic, but this book was effing brilliant. Could not recommend it more! Have never read a book so fast!
So gripping and so dark. Had to stay up very late to finish it - I inhaled it
This book deals with a very important issue of bullying. Told from the parents point of view, one chapter is told by Sara, the mother, and the next view from Guy, the father. This is a fast moving story, with emotions that are raw, from not only the victim, but from the lives of families that the bully terrorized. I kept on asking myself, what would YOU do to protect your child. I thought this story was well written, full of emotion, with an ending that you will NOT believe. I wish I could rate this with more than five stars. I will definitely be recommending this book to my patrons, and ordering multiple copies for my library system. Well done, Mr. Hurst.
Thank you to NetGalley, The Author Daniel Hurst and the Publisher Bookouture for allowing me the opportunity to read this novel for my honest review.
The Couple’s Revenge is Daniel Hurst’s latest thriller that kept me up late at night. This one is different than all the others as it has a lot of bullying in it so this could be a trigger for some. I actually figured out the end but that didn’t bother me! Love this guy and anxiously waiting for his next book. Thank you to NetGalley for this early release in exchange for an honest review. I flew through the pages of this one in 1 day. To be published January 2024. Suicide can also be a trigger.
I love Daniel Hurst and everything he writes! This one was good, not great. I guessed the twist about 75% in, but overall still a good, quick thriller that I would recommend.
This is a really boring book, with an intro about two thirds of the book, and then a small plot with a mystery the last third. There's a lot of repetition and unnecessary descriptions, made worse with the changing of first person PV. Every time you pick up the book you have to find out who "I" am.
Another awesome story from Daniel Hurst! I found this to be very entertaining as well as surprising. What in fact would you actually do in order to protect your family? Loved how it kept me guessing until the very end. The outcome of all of Daniel Hurst books are always surprising, and I love that it keeps me guessing.
Jacob is a happy fifteen year old and will talk to his mum and dad about everything so, when he suddenly becomes withdrawn, squirrels himself away in his room and refuses to tell her why, Sara knows that something is very wrong and shares her concerns with her husband Guy, who finally manages to find out that his son is being bullied at school by Mason, and this is not the first time he's done this. When Jacob is seriously hurt, Sara and Guy know they have to put a stop to it, but how far will they go to protect their son and at what cost?
The Couple's Revenge is the latest thriller by prolific author Hurst, whose books never cease to pull me in from the first page and keep me hooked till the end. This one is told from the perspectives of Sara and Guy, across three timelines of before, now and after. The main subject of this book is bullying, a hard topic to write about but Hurst treated it sensitively and with compassion. It's a subject that many parents will be faced with throughout their children's lives, myself included, so it really tugged at my emotions and brought back many memories of when it was happening to my child, the trauma he went through and the battles I faced with the school trying to get it dealt with, thankfully it was and, even though I would never have gone as far as Sara and Guy, it shows that we will do what is necessary to protect our children and help them to lead a happy life. This is another easy read, with a great twist at the end and I'm already looking forward to his next book.
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.
The Couple’s Revenge-
My rating is 2 stars.
This is the first novel I’ve read by Daniel Hurst and likely the last novel, too. It was marketed as a “jaw-dropping, psychological thriller,” and I just didn’t find that to be true, which is unfortunate because I love a good psychological thriller.
Was I expecting this book to be the G.O.A.T of thrillers? No. But I was expecting an exciting read by an author that was new to me.
There are a lot of things that really turned me off of this book. story is boring. The plot was dull and didn’t elicit any excitement from me. The characters aren’t memorable (with the exception of Zoe Atkinson and that’s only because of her tragic story.) There was zero momentum or build up and the plot twist was unimpressive. The police work in this novel was laughable and completely unrealistic.
I’m disappointed in myself for sticking it out and spending the time it took to finish this book. I have no interest in reading anything further by this author.
I received an advance reader copy and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I always love books by Daniel Hurst! They are such quick, easy and entertaining reads - this was no different! I devoured this within a few hours. Towards the end, the twists had be so surprised! I had some ideas, that the book pointed to and them wow!! Such a reveal! I loved this book and highly recommend!!
This is another excellent book by Daniel Hurst, this time addressing bullying in schools.
When her son comes home from school acting very strange, Sara and Guy eventually find out that Jacob is being bullied.
The perpetrator is Mason, a boy previously expelled for bullying a girl who ultimately committed suicide.
Guy and Sara reports this boy, which leads to a police investigation.
What ends will a parent go to, in order to protect their child?
This is a riveting book about a prevailing issue amongst our youth.
I highly t recommend this well written book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and honestly review this book.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Couple’s Revenge’ written by Daniel Hurst in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Sara and Guy are your normal family with a son Jacob nearly sixteen and daughter Amber at university. When Jacob returns home from school one day and locks himself in his bedroom they realise something’s wrong but they couldn’t have foreseen that he was being bullied by the same person who just two years ago had been instrumental in a young girl committing suicide. When the same person deliberately attacks Jacob seriously injuring him, Sara and Guy decide that enough is enough and they have to do something to stop him from hurting anyone else.
‘The Couple’s Revenge’ is another brilliant thriller by this very talented author that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading. From page one I’ve been totally involved in the story with characters so believable and realistic that at times I found myself in their shoes wondering what I’d do if my child was being bullied. It’s well-written and contains drama, suspense and twists and turns, with an ending that comes as a surprise but works extremely well managing to tie up all the loose ends very nicely. I can wholeheartedly recommend this thriller that I’ve been unable to down and finished in one day, proof of how much I’ve enjoyed it.
I love Daniel Hurst’s books; he’s definitely one of the best domestic thriller authors at the moment.
I was super excited to read this new book and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It’s fast paced with plenty of twists and turns throughout. It’s definitely worthy of 5 stars.
