I knew this book was going to be good when I seen the cover.
But, oh boy i didn't expect all the wonderful things, people and places that were eagerly waiting for me to read their story. I'm so glad I did!
There was some sweet, funny, serious moments too.
Joy was even sweeter when it rose over stress like a kite on a breeze.
Most definitely it does!
Nevermore a sweeter team used after a lot of heartaches down through the years. Especially for Guy and Hannah.
I needed this story more than I realized. This is a gentle reminder that you love the ones who are there for you and don't dwell on the past cause really it doesn't do any good except to make you miserable.
I believe I'm going to leave this as a Bible quote, too.
Trust is the most important issue, and so is Hope. But what's more important is family no matter how it's formed.
I loved Hannah and Guy. Being rich doesn't bring happiness either, and I get it with narssict people. Pain in the backside!
They steal joy, love, and everything else that matters if you let it.
This was a wonderful story that I just finished and wanted to post this.
The two ladies who were exercising at the beginning made me giggle. They were quite the pair!
This author has done a fantabulous job with this novel and one I enjoyed very much!
5 stars for some great reading this evening! I highly recommend this book.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Ever met someone who seemed too good to be true?
Me, too.
So did one of the Turner Sisters. Guy Barret, personal trainer extraordinaire is just what the resort needs and Hannah could get lost in those blue eyes. Just as she decides to let him in and gets comfortable flirting with him, she discovers something in his bag that has her questioning his motives.
You’ll soon discover that nothing is easy in 25-year-old Hannah Turner’s life. Her father died when she was young and her mother became an alcoholic. Cheryl, Hannah’s paternal grandmother got custody of her granddaughters when Hannah was 7 and Mary was 4. She brought them to Seaside Resort, the trendiest resort on the Pacific North West’s Sand Dollar Cove, and gave them sanctuary during the roughest parts of their lives. Now it’s Hannah’s turn to return the favour and (1) help Grandma Cheryl as she suffers from osteoporosis and (2) preserve the resort that has been knit into her heart. Can she juggle all this responsibility and still make room for love…or will vulnerability step in the way? Can she get her own happy ending?
Strawberry Cottage, on the resort property, is slated for demolition due to the cracked foundation and it is Hannah’s job to clear out the items that had been stored there years ago. When she finds a box with postcards referring to Joe from Connecticut, a Sinatra autograph and a jar with sand and shells, she wonders if she can locate Joe and find out why he left the box in the cottage.
I could imagine this resort in its heyday welcoming Rosemary Clooney, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, and Dennis Quaid and could relate to Hannah wanting to preserve her past - all that she has left of her father. I saw so much of myself in Hannah, especially her drive to honour her past, preserve her future and ensure happiness through diligence and responsibility. Her lesson was one for me, too. I kept shaking my head at Mary, Hannah’s naive 22-year-old sister but my frustration with her gave way to laughter as I read about Mrs. Leary’s son, Jason.
If you haven’t read the first two books in this series, come to Sandollar Cover and meet two sisters, read about two life-altering mistakes, get swept up in two unforgettable romances and enjoy double the mystery and twice the fun. The Vintage Americana and the mystery will intrigue you but the sweet romance will make you stay.
“A bad day in Sand Dollar Cove is better than a great day in Seattle.”
Inspired by Ocean Shores, Washington, this novel centers around long-buried family secrets, a struggle to prove one’s worth and learning to be vulnerable in love. Linking all three threads is a warning that nothing is as it seems.
I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This is such a beautiful read. One I can say I really enjoyed the whole way through. Such a stunning location, brilliant characters. I just loved it… Now I’m heading straight for the next book!
Thanks to a great author we have warmth, wisdom and emotional intelligence, this book was a huge pleasure to read! A fabulous, really enjoyable read.
This book started a little slow at first. I thought the segments on Guy's physical therapy and personal trainer session went on too long and I actually flipped through those sections. I loved Hannah's character. She put her needs to the side as she fully supported her sister through school and took care of her grandmother. She is such a strong character and I was happy to see that she fought for her promotion as General Manager of Sand Dollar Cove. The fact that Guy turned out to be heir to hotel conglomerate was something I really wasn't expecting. I'm actually looking forward to reading book 2 to see what Guy and Hannah do with the hotel chain. BTW - What the hell is with Mary's boyfriend Aidan coming home with a pregnant wife? That totally took me by surprise. Him calling Hannah to ask about a ring didn't really make much sense.
“Postcards from the Cove” by Jennifer Bardsley is the first of the “Sand Dollar Cove” novels. This book follows Hannah, who works in a seaside resort. Hannah is a young adult who does a lot of adulting - she lives with and cares for her grandmother, watches over her younger (adult) sister, works full-time, and shoulders a lot of responsibility. Additionally, when things go wrong, she’s the one everyone depends upon to come up with solutions. At her work, a new employee appears - and sparks fly between them. On the whole, there’s a lot of background material to give depth to the main female characters which I felt was interesting, yet at times information was repeated too many times. However, this book did hold my attention - and ended on a cliffhanger that moves nicely into the second book in this series. If you like seaside resorts in quirky towns, a light romance, and getting to know characters well - this book may be one to check out.
I enjoyed this one. It was so relaxed just perfect for this hectic time of year. I'm looking forward to reading the next one soon just to see how the story develops. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Realistic characters keep this story moving quickly. Family and friends...even the title is intriguing...Postcards...the Cove...book 1...cannot wait to read more from this series by this talented author. Curl up in a comfy chair with a cup of steaming herbal tea...become lost in the Cove...with the characters in this novel. Enjoy. Thanks Netgalley.
