I ADORED THIS BOOK! Christina Lauren are a writing duo that write the perfect amount of com into their roms and this book taking a twist on retelling Tangled/ Rapunzel's storyline was so unique and entertaining! Ren and Fitz are so dang adorable and I just enjoyed how their characters both slowly revealed their storylines. AND we get a mystery aspect with Ren's story? Seriously this book was so fun. Even though it was a clean romance (no spice, just a few light jokes and a kiss or two)
1000% recommend - especially the audiobook! Patti Murin, Eunice Wong & Andrew Goibson did an wonderful time narrating!
Thank you NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
This was a different kind of book! I adored the slow-building romance and forced proximity because of the road trip. I loved Edward’s patience with her and how he wanted to give her the world! That was epic, and I loved how the book reminded me of a modern-day Tangled show. I adored this!
Ren finally can talk her old-fashioned parents into letting her attend college, she is 22 years old and is self-taught on everything and has never held a phone or used a computer or anything like that. Fitz is well-loved and is known as the Cassanova of the campus going through girls as if they are going out of style. Fitz gives Ren the campus tour and then she is the competition for his perfect grades and GPA. Well after taking a DNA test in one class Ren receives surprising results that her father is on the DNA list she is confused because her parents do not like technology and don't believe in anything like that and then when she finds out the man that she is calling her dad does not have the same name nor looks the same as her DNA match.
Then as luck has it she catches Fitz cheating and blackmails him to take her with him on his road trip during Spring Break. He reluctantly agrees and they have a whirlwind road trip and then Fitz realizes that he's slowly gaining feelings for Ren and realizes how naive she is Ren gains feelings for Fitz but the whole ordeal is confusing to her!
I loved this and I loved the motorcycle bar scene the most! It was a hoot! Worth the read. Thank you Netgalley and Hyperion Avenue for the treat of reading and reviewing this one! I loved it!
The author's engaging stories and characters always suck me in, so that I don't want to put the book down. So it was with Tangled Up With You, a fractured retelling of Rapunzel. I was rooting for Ren and Fitz all the way and didn't even think about Repunzel until she cut off her hair..
Ren is beautiful, smart, extremely nice and very innocent, as she was raised on a primitive homestead. But something seemed off to me from the first chapter, with her relationship with her parents, calling them by their names, and no siblings, a necessity for homesteading. When she won a scholarship to Corona College, her parents reluctantly allowed her to attend, with very strict rules. Which she slowly broke. Sweetly innocent but feisty, she quickly wins everyone over- accept for Fitz. After meeting her roommate, Fitz is the second student that she meet, assigned by the Dean to show her around campus. Fitz radiates a persona of influence. He is the big man on campus, handsome, athletic wealthy, smart... but it is all a facade, as the author slowly reveals all his layers. He is out for revenge and sweet Ren is getting in his way. But when a genetic test in their biology class reveals that she has a biological father in Atlanta, she has to know the truth. And a simple phone call will not do. She blackmails Fitz into taking her as far as Nashville where he is heading for break. During their road trip, they learn a lot about each other, friendship and love. But will her scheming "mother" prevent her from learning the truth?

Tangled Up in You is a perfect modern retelling of the Disney Rapunzel movie! Christina Lauren's style really compliments this young adult story, it has a charming amount of sweetness and fun, the story is very well paced and the characters remain true to their fairytale counterparts. Christina Lauren does a beautiful job modernizing and paralleling moments from the movie and really playing into the road trip, forced proximity journey that the hero and heroine go on! If you are looking for a bubbly and charming heroine who is ethnically herself and for a bit of a misunderstood hero who likes to have fun an learns about what really matters, than this romance is the one for you! I would so highly recommend this novel, it is the perfect way to experience this well loved movie through the lens of the modern eye!
This is lighthearted romance that brings a bit of charm to the workplace romance genre. The characters are likable, and the storyline is engaging, but it doesn’t quite reach its full potential. The chemistry between the protagonists is enjoyable, but there are moments when the pacing feels uneven, which affects the flow of the story.
While there are several funny and heartwarming scenes, some of the plot points feel predictable, and the character development could have been deeper. Despite these minor issues, Its still enjoyable read for anyone looking for a feel-good romance with a few laughs along the way.

I enjoyed this book a ton, Ren (Rapunzel) was the epitome of sunshine. Edward (Fitz) was the perfect Eugene (Flynn). I wish the book had gone more into their happily ever after though! I would have loved to see them a few years down the road.
Ren grew up in Idaho, isolated from everything but her parents and their farm animals. Never having gone to school, at the age of 22 she convinces her parents to allow her to go to college. During the week she spends her time at school, but every Friday her parents are there to pick her up. As Ren learns more about the “outside” world, she begins to wonder if her parents were wrong about everything…
I am a huge fan of the Meant to Be series and fairytale retellings. When "Tangled Up In You" crossed my path, I knew I could not resist a retelling of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Ren and Fitz are the perfect characters for this story, and the year/location settings are perfect updates to revive a beloved classic. I hope more retellings are lined up for this series! As a collection manager at my library, I was thrilled to put this on order and recommend it to my library patrons. What a fun ride!
This was a fun, surprising read! I loved the nod to Tangled and felt invested in the characters. We have recommended this one to customers who are looking for a light-hearted story that also has some heart and depth to it.
First off Tangled is my comfort Disney movie so I was so excited to read this retelling. And let me tell you this was such a refreshing take not only on Rapunzel retelling but on a love story in general! I have never read a story set within a doomsday prepper type atmosphere to start where the main character is so isolated but it lended perfectly to the set up for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole story!
The perfect slow burn romance with all the lovely charm of two of our favorite Disney leads. Tangled Up in You is the grumpy x sunshine fic that hits all the high points of the classic fairy tale. While I know it was intended to be this way, everything felt a little too picture perfect for my taste, especially the ending. But hey, that's a Disney retelling for you!
Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren was a great modern retelling of Tangled. I found the story fascinating, especially with Ren's sheltered life. It gave me Educated vibes. I found the story to be engrossing. I recommend reading this book.
A good retelling of the beloved movie Tangled is a tall order. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider have an undeniable chemistry and the progression of their story and personal growth never fail to capture the hearts of the audience. There are not many people who would be up to the task of giving this story a modern twist that holds the same standards as the original. Fortunately, the publishers knew what they were doing when they chose Christina Lauren to continue their Meant to Be series of retellings.
Christina Lauren managed to not only capture the magic of the original, but also add their own spin in a way that made the story make sense in a more modern setting. Well, as much as they could anyway. Ren’s homelife and backstory flowed brilliantly into who she was as a person when she started her adventure, going to college. When she meets up with a guide to tour the college, she gets to know Fitz, who, despite their immediate chemistry, can't stand her. The progression of their relationship and the journeys that they both embark on was brilliantly done. While they are undeniably retelling the story, Tangled, both Fitz and Ren are their own characters who deserve the love of the audience in their own right.
It was great fun to see the modern world through the eyes of the always kind and at times, naive, Ren. There were many times when seeing the world through that lens brought out the beauty and the pain of the real world. The lens provided a look at the hypocrisy of society and the ways that the beauty within the individual can counter that hypocrisy and make the world better, one smile at a time.
The only complaint that I had while reading this book was that the ending felt abrupt. For a story that spent so much time building tension and suspense, it was over rather quickly. There were a few storylines that I felt were left unfinished and would have really helped to finish the rounding out of Ren and Fitz’s characters.
3.5/5 stars for a story that will thrill fans of the movie, Tangled.
Thank you to Hyperion and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for my honest review
I believe this book was a take on Disney Princess Rapunzel (Tangled). It was a cute romance story that mimicked the original story well! The characters were cute. Fitz's car was named Max which was a fun little easter egg to the prince's horse in the movie. Ren was out of touch with the world (which is expected based on the character), but at times it made the story feel very YA.
Overall, the story was cute but it was a bit slow. I also didn't really like the ending. If you are a Disney fan though, this is a fun & cute read that you should check out!
It took me a while to finish this book, but I did it. I don't think Christina Lauren is the same writing duo I used to love a few years back. The book was okay. But okay it's not enough for me anymore. It hurts me, but it's true. I loved Fitz tho!
Tangled Up in You is quite the read! While I haven’t watched the movie TANGLED which this one is loosely based on, I can say that this one charmed me to pieces. Whenever I read a Chrstina Lauren book, I immediately think it’s going to be hilarious, silly, and sexy. And while this one does have the author's trademark humor, I felt this one was tame compared to their other books. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy it because I DID, but it isn’t a replica of what I’ve read from them previously.
Tangled Up in You is the perfect retelling. Christina Lauren's experience writing fan-fiction really comes through with this one. Not only does Tangled Up In You offer its own enjoyable experience for readers unfamiliar with Disney's Tangled, the book does a tremendous amount of fan service and shows appreciation for the 2010 film that fans will quickly take notice of.
Tangled is a personal favorite. When I saw that Christina Lauren would be doing a modern retelling of this Disney gem, I knew I had to read it. The book is true to its subject matter while still able to put in a few interesting and logical twists to give it a modern feel.
I got some friends to join along in the fun, so not only were we all to enjoy reading Tangled Up In You, we also did a little book club meeting of our own using the AMAZING Book Club Kit (you can find this on the authors' page under the link for Tangled Up In You). With recipes, printable bookmarks, discussion questions, interviews with the authors, and more, this Book Club Kit made me wish I could have one for every book we read.
While Tangled Up In You is a standalone read, it is part of a larger Disney retelling series that I am about to deep dive into and bring my friends along with me. 😅 These are the perfect books to just reset with and help you relive and enjoy a Disney favorite in a whole new way.
If you are a fan of Tangled, much like I am, then I definitely recommend this one! Christina Lauren nailed the vibes completely. It was charming, sweet and overall enjoyable!
This contemporary fairy tale is a fun retelling of Tangled. I loved the grumpy sunshine trope and slow burn. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I was laughing and smiling along with this story and it was fun to follow along and compare to the movie.
okay i absolutely love Tangled so much. i was very excited for this, and it did not disappoint!! their dynamic and chemistry was to Flynn and Repunzel!! it was so cute, and funny! such an overall lighthearted read!
Tangled Up in You by Christina Lauren was an absolutely delightful read that made my Disney-loving heart so happy. This book is a modern-day retelling of Tangled, the story is cute, fast-paced, and full of little twists and turns and one huge one I wasn't expecting even a little bit. There were also a lot of funny moments, as Ren was so sheltered that she had never even held an iPhone, the modern world had so much she knew nothing about. I loved Ren's innocence and Fitz's genuine kindness as they crossed the country. If you're a fan of Christina Lauren, this book doesn't have the usual spice factor. It's on the very low end, which I think was wholly appropriate for this story.
