What a fun reimagining of the Rapunzel story. I like how Christina Lauren made the tower into a remote homestead and created a relatively logical backstory for why Rwn would be so naive and inexperienced with the world. Fitz's "bad boy" backstory was also good, although felt rushed (like we get his backstory in a lot of exposition and almost all at the end, which I thought was odd since we were alternating points of views... there were opportunities to flesh him out sooner). The bar scene is one of my favorites in the movie and it was one of my favorites in the book too.
The ending felt super heavy and we lose some of the playfully in those last chapters (which 1/2 makes sense since abduction is a big deal, but the whole tone shifted at the end and all we get is a quick paragraph of them in happily ever after).
This book was absolutely incredible, I had to force myself to put it down on night one and finished it night two. In reading the first chapter, I wasn’t sure this book was for me and by chapter 2, I was hooked. This is so much more than a modern day retelling of Tangled. My only wish was for a real epilogue with some more details of their HEA.
A cute fun romance about two totally different type of people who comes together and fall in love..
Very good fun read.
Voluntarily reviewed.
A delightful retelling of Tangled with well-developed characters and a fun adventure! I loved seeing how parts of the movie were reimagined in the story.
Ren has lived on her parents homestead for 20 years and she is finally heading college but life is much different then on Homestead.
This a fairytale retelling with a modern twist. I at first did not like the FMC. I felt like the author wrote her very immature and she was driving me crazy. But as the storyline we saw Ren grow as a person and the chemistry with the MMC Fitz.
I liked the way Christina Lauren mixed in the parentage that needed to happen with a Rapunzel retelling. The storyline didn’t seem very rushed.
Ren had good chemistry with not rushing anything as Ren is suppose to be this inexperienced farm girl.

4.5 ⭐️ Thank you to Christina Lauren and Hyperion Avenue for an early copy of Tangled Up in You. Let me just say how much I loved the character of Ren. Her excitement to see the world was so contagious. I couldn’t help but see things through her eyes. If you loved Rapunzel, the Disney version of course, you’ll love this book. I loved how the scenes from the movie were transformed to various scenes to fit to story line. I loved the biker bar scene! So hilarious!
I loved watching Fitz slowly change his opinion of Ren as the story progressed and slowly fall in love with her. It was a sweet YA romance. Definitely recommend for fans of Rapunzel.
This was the most delightful, charming fairytale retelling-maybe the best I‘ve ever read! Christina Lauren have reimagined Tangled in a modern, realistic way with complicated characters that you can‘t help but fall for. This releases June 25th and I can‘t wait until everyone reads it so we can all fan girl over it. Can't wait to do a Tangled rewatch.
Ok so many things… Christina Lauren for one…. & a reimagining modern take on one of my top five favorite Disney movies ✨Tangled✨This was without a doubt a must read for me and I’m happy to say I absolutely LOVED it!!!
Tangled Up I’m You is apart of the Meant to Be Series which are reimaginings of classic Disney stories written by different authors. This is number four in the series and my first. The Tangle and CLo of it all had me requesting this one immediately!
The first 5% of the book gave of major 1990s classic Son In Law, which I absolutely loved and then the story continued with magical modern moments inspired by Tangled which fit brilliantly with the storyline. It was fun to pick up on each of the Easter eggs!
I read this one on my kindle… which I only use at night… and I do have to say we all know what happens in the story but this one was edge of seat… must read the last 25% even though it’s late… nervous vibes.
I absolutely loved this book… Ren, Fitz and all the magical moments the authors created.
Thank you Hyperion Avenue

A quick read and cute romance. Never thought I'd see cult vibes successfully woven into a romance, but Christina Lauren pulled it off in this Tangled retelling. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free advance copy.

Christina Lauren has always been an auto-buy author so when I saw that the duo wrote a Disney retelling, I decided to give it a try!
I did personally struggle with the writing style and pacing. I found it was a lot of telling, repetition, and slower plot.
Overall, this was a cute read and will be perfect for your beach bag this summer! It will be the perfect light and fluffy read.

I love the movie Tangled, and this book worked well as a reimagining of it. I admired how the book took some of the movie's iconic scenes, while still holding its own identity. I think this book can be loved by both Tangled fans and people who have never seen the movie.
I loved the characters in this book! Our POV characters, Ren and Fitz, are given solid motivations and conflicts, loveable personalities. Their relationship is very cute.
One of the downsides of this book for me was how focused it was on the physical relationship between Fitz and Ren. Though it is a closed door romance, much of the plot in the second half of the book is revolving around the question of "Will these two go all the way? Look at that, they have to share a bed again. Maybe they will finally kiss this time, maybe they'll do more than that?" It was like the book didn't know what it wanted to be, because while the content didn't go farther than kissing, the tone and internal monologues of the characters tried to go much farther. It ends up in a middle ground that doesn't feel like it will satisfy any readers, either the people who are looking for closed door romances or the people who are looking for spice in their romances.
A video review including this book will be on my Youtube channel in the coming weeks, @ChloeFrizzle.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hyperion Avenue for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Christina Lauren does it again! If you are a fan of her books, you will not be disappointed in this new one. The book sucks you in from the get-go and you will find yourself thinking about the characters long after you finish it. Do yourself a favor and get this book!!
Christina Lauren knows how to make me laugh and smile. The author due took a fun path with this one and I'm truly honored to have received ARC.
The heroine and hero have wonderful chemistry and just fell off the page. Great job!
When I saw this new romance release from one of my top favorite authorial duos, Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, writing as Christina Lauren, I immediately snapped it up based on the author name alone. I didn’t realize ahead of time that TANGLED UP IN YOU is a modern-day twist on Disney’s animated film Tangled. The Disney movie, in turn, was loosely based on the fairytale Rapunzel as recorded by The Brothers Grimm. Now, I’ve read all of the Grimm fairytales, but I’ve never seen Disney’s Tangled.
After finishing reading Laurens’ TANGLED UP IN YOU, I googled the plot for the animated film Tangled to try to compare the two. I’m sure there are a lot of little hat-tip details in the book that I didn’t pick up on, but I don’t believe that should deter potential readers who haven’t seen the movie. I think this book can be enjoyed on its own merits, especially for fans of Christina Lauren. There are fun things like: the name of the hero in the novel is Fitz, a nod to the film character Flynn who reveals his true name to be Eugene Fitzherbert.
Ren (i.e. the Rapunzel character with the requisite long blonde hair) is starting college at age 22, the first time she’s ever attended any school. She’s been incredibly sheltered and isolated her whole life, raised on a homestead and learning on her own. While she’s capable of reading and writing Mandarin and also repairing a tractor engine, she has no idea what the real world is like. She reminded me of Brandon Fraser’s character in the movie Blast from the Past, knowing about the modern world only by what she has read or seen on the very few old VCR tapes she had access to. She’s a wide-eyed innocent, and oh so endearing.
Bad boy Fitz is a college senior who has been passing himself off at school as a playboy rich kid. In reality, he was adopted by a millionaire when he was a teenager, and he has a sketchy past with the law. If he graduates college with top honors, however, his criminal record will be expunged. Fitz tried to resist Ren’s innocent appeal, but she appears to the heart he’s been trying so hard to protect. Fitz heads to Nashville during college spring break and Ren blackmails her way into his trip, and the hijinks (and eventual love) ensue.
TANGLED UP IN YOU’s hero and heroine are college students, and the vibe of this book is New Adult. While it’s much more racy than a children’s Disney film, I’m sure, it is still definitely only PG in heat. Our heroine Ren fantasizes about sex with Fitz, but there is only kissing in this book. While the tone of the book in New Adult, the themes of childhood trauma and being true to oneself transcend age groups.
Although there are some deep emotions and terrible personal traumas, the overall sensibility of the book to me is like a Disney tale. Sure, there are some scary things, but overall the tale is light and frothy. Approach this read like you would a Disney princess story, and you’ll enjoy the ride. Lauren’s TANGLED UP IN YOU is about chasing your dream and being open to the wonders and the love around you.
This was the perfect modern adaptation of tangled.
Ren has lived off the grid since she was three years old. After being accepted into college with a full scholarship, she talks her parents into letting her go. However, she has rules. No boys, no booze, no restaurants, no internet, no makeup and she must come home every weekend.
Fitz is a senior in college and has everything planned out. He will graduate, go to law school, and clear his record. When he meets Ren to give her a tour of campus as one of his many jobs, he immediately dislikes her. For the first time his plans might be in jeopardy.
When Ren gets unexpected results in her immunology seminar, after a little persuading, she sets out with Fitz on a cross-country trip.
The authors did a great job of weaving parts of the original story into this one. You get Pascal of course, the horse, a bar scene, and even the frying pan. Rens personality matched Rapunzel's, with her funny quirkiness and her worries about breaking the rules.
I absolutely loved everything about this story. I also loved the tangled movie and I think the authors did it justice. This was a cute fun read for anyone especially Disney lovers.
Thank you Hyperion Avenue for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. Of course, all opinions are my own.
Tangled is truly my favorite Disney movie of all time, so when I saw this modern reimagining of this story I RAN!! And it did not disappoint. Christina Lauren perfectly captured the chemistry we’ve come to love from Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder as our two main characters set off upon their unexpected road trip. The romance felt perfectly paced to me and allowed for so many heartwarming moments between our characters while on their journey.
Overall it just felt like a warm hug from an old friend. A MUST read for all my disney girlies 🫶🏼
Oh my goodness, this was just too adorable for words! I'm not usually one for retellings, and honestly, I'm not the biggest Disney enthusiast, but when Christina Lauren releases a new book, you better believe I'm diving in headfirst. So, naturally, I immediately grabbed the ARC of their latest gem, a retelling of the Disney classic, Tangled!
"Tangled Up in You" was positively swoon-worthy and utterly sweet. It's been ages since I last watched the movie, but let's be real here—who could forget Flynn Rider?!
I'm thrilled to report that the hero of "Tangled Up in You," Fitz, possesses all the charm and charisma of the animated heartthrob. Plus, those little nods to the movie that I did remember had me giggling like a schoolgirl.
As for the romance aspect, this reads pretty YA, which suited me just fine. I wasn't anticipating a steamy tale with a Disney princess retelling, and this one keeps things strictly PG, with just some good old-fashioned smooching. While I adore the spicy Christina Lauren books, I actually found myself more than satisfied with the PG-rated action here, especially considering our 22-year-old Rapunzel, Ren, has never been kissed (and has barely ventured beyond her home).
If you're a fan of Tangled, I have no doubt you'll fall head over heels for this book. However, if you've never seen (or have no desire to see) the movie, this might not be your favorite Christina Lauren romance. Nonetheless, it's undeniably cute and fun, making for a quick read that's sure to be a hit with the right crowd.
A huge shoutout to the publisher and NetGalley for granting me early access to this delightful read! Rest assured, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
I have really enjoyed the various installments of the Meant to Be series, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC from Hyperion!
Tangled is one of my favorite Disney movies, and I was thrilled to see it land in Christina Lauren’s capable hands. Their take on Ren and her wonder and awe as she experiences college life (and all it entails) after growing up on a reclusive homestead was so fun and plausible. Fitz, their version of Flynn Rider, encompassed a great mix of bad boy, charmer, mystery, and handsomeness. The story had so many nods to the film while still telling a fresh, intriguing story.
I think the thing I appreciated most was the way Ren and Fitz’s love story developed over the course of a cross country road trip in Fitz’s white Mustang named Max. It was sweet and romantic and consistent with Ren’s character. While I enjoy the spice in Christina Lauren’s other novels, the level of spice in this novel was consistent and appropriate to the story. The ending felt a bit rushed and I would have loved an epilogue that puts Ren and Fitz a year in the future.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)
Ren has grown up on her family's homestead isolated from modern society. Now, she's headed to college with strict rules from her parents to help keep her safe. When a DNA assignment in one of her classes reveals shocking results, Ren sets off on a cross-country trip with charming and cocky Fitz- the last person who wants to be stuck with her. As these two make their way through each state, Ren begins to tear down the walls Fitz has built up to protect himself. Can these two help each other find happiness while also dealing with dangerous secrets that have come to light?
This was such a fun, modern twist on the movie Tangled. I'm a huge fan of the movie, so I loved seeing how Christina Lauren incorporated all the characters and plot points into a new adult romantic suspense novel. I do think that readers who aren't Disney fans might not enjoy this as much as me, so keep that in mind before jumping into this one. Ren was so fun and endearing at the beginning of the book. She was naive, obviously, but not in an obnoxious way. Fitz was just the right amount of flirty and cocky, and I liked seeing how he grew and opened himself up to love during their trip. The suspense storyline at the end was done really well, and I was eager to see how everything played out. I really liked how Fitz was protective of Ren's innocence and never pushed her to do anything or go too far in terms of their physical relationship. His concern for her well-being at the end of the book was also extremely attractive. This was such a different book from Christina Lauren's normal releases, but I really enjoyed it. Definitely give it a try if you are a Disney fan or just looking for a fun, escapist read.
Thank you Netgalley and Hyperion Avenue for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Christina Lauren my girls! I am still on a high with their recent release The Paradise Problem. So I was very excited to get the ARC for their next release.
I will start off by saying I am not a Disney person but I do love the movie Tangled and this book was such a cute and modern retelling of it. I adored Ren. She had a big personality and so enthused by everything with a positive look out on life. Fitz breezes through life with his charisma and charm (or so we think) he was a perfect leading man and a true gentleman. Together they balance each other out and learn some lessons along the way. I know the authors are known for their spicy adds to the books but I was actually quite content with there not being any sexy time. It just wouldn't have sat right with me with Ren being as sheltered and naive as she is and giving it up in that short of time.
I do wish there was an epilogue. The end just seemed so rushed but I get that they were trying to make it like a true Disney experience. The happily ever after. I just needed more. This is a great read for Disney lovers and those looking for a quick read.
Thank you NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
