Since my kids were little, Tangled quickly became my favorite movie! I loved how quirky and sweet it was! So when I saw this book was coming out, I jumped at the chance to read it! This book is just as quirky and cute as the movie. It’s a bit more “modern day” but it works!

I love Christina Lauren books and I was so excited to get an ARC for Tangled Up in You. While it has all the Christina Lauren greatness, it is a happy feel good clean fairytale retell. It is full of great chemistry, adventure and humor. This book keeps you engaged, smiling a perfect book escape!

This fairytale retelling mirrors “Tangled”. Our hero in this story is Fitz. Fitz has lots of humor, lure and personality throughout the book. Our heroine Ren, is innocent, smart and charming. Without giving any spoilers this a fun ride as these two characters grow together through one big adventure. Be prepared to find yourself not wanting to put this book down.

If you love Tangled, you will enjoy this story. There are so many fun easter eggs to find and all in all it is cute story to read and escape too.

What to Expect:
💛Fairytale Retold
💛Low Steam
💛Chemistry & Humor
💛Forced Proximity
💛Grumpy/Sunshine

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was very excited for this book. I am a huge Christina Lauren fan and have read everything by them at this point and have never rated anything by them under 4 stars until now. I was waiting for Tangled vibes and within the first 30% it is truly so loosely based. Not that it needed to be true to the plot of fairytale but comparing to the other in this collection, Kiss the Girl, the little mermaid retelling, that book had so much charm and cuteness and easter eggs back to the original lore. I totally understand being inspired by the source material and taking it in a unique direction (Kiss the Girl absolutely did this!) but this book is really just its own thing and without any charm the other ridiculous and extreme aspects just end up sticking out and feeling unrealistic.

It is confusing to me for an FMC that is so well read that she doesn't realize how cruel and abusive her parents are. I am not victim blaming, I understand how she wasn't able to leave prior to college but there actions and commentary were so extreme it didn't even feel hurtful it was bordering ridiculous. There was no finesse.

It took way to long for the MMC to grow up. Speaking of victim blaming, he does that in spades. The FMC has lived a very sheltered life and instead of delicately explaining how disappointing the real world can be because of OTHERS, he focuses on her own naivety and how she is setting herself up as a target for others. Why is she the problem? Why not the evils of society instead of bad things happening being her own fault? Things like that just majorly gave me the ick. His reason for his actions was also so extreme and unrealistic and I think being in that modern college setting and structure just made me kind of roll my eyes at his grade requirement for example.

Agreed with another reviewer that this was not cute or fun. Every time FMC Ren would do something so endearing she was immediately antagonized by Fitz the MMC and he absolutely did not make up for it. Thank you to Hyperion for the eARC. I would recommend others in this collection instead like the previously mentioned Kiss the Girl.

This was surprisingly dark, and I'm confused by the number of reviewers describing it as "cute" and "fun." I was expecting rom-com type vibes (illustrated covers strike again!) but this is more like women's fiction with a mystery/thriller twist. In a literal sense, it is a good adaptation of Tangled. It manages to hit the same general concepts but in a contemporary setting. However, when you translate a historical fantasy (and especially a Disney one) to modern day fiction/contemporary romance, a lot of things that you would otherwise gloss over seem really messed up. If you go into the book expecting that tone, it may be less jarring.

Character-wise I really liked Ren, and eventually Fitz grew on me. They both face challenges and have had to deal with being fish out of water during their lives. Ren was raised on a remote farm homestead without technology and no connection to the outside world other than occasional trips into a small town nearby. She is incredibly booksmart and manages to get admitted to a local college, but has no idea how to navigate the social aspects of the experience. Fitz grew up in poverty and foster care, but was adopted as a teen by a rich philanthropist looking for a postiive PR move rather than a child to care for. He has had to assume the persona that his adoptive father expects of him but is still fighting demons from his past. For the first quarter of the book, he acts like an asshole to Ren, but he improves as their roadtrip adventure goes on.

Overall, I walked way from the story just feeling sad for Ren, with all that she went through and the lost opportunities along the way. It ends on a hopeful note (and she and Fitz do get their HEA), but the trauma of her life being turned upside down and learning the truth about her "family" can't be undone.

Thank you to Disney-Hyperion Avenue and Netgalley for providing an ARC for review!

Christina Lauren can do no wrong ... add that this was a Disney retelling and it's the perfect book. The retelling of Rapunzel was done so smartly, I loved every second of it :) And swooned so hard...

OMG! What could be better than Christina Lauren and a Tangled retelling?! I'll tell you what - nothing! This story is so much fun! I absolutely loved Ren and Fitz. Christina Lauren did such an awesome job with this - it will go on my reread list for sure!

4.5 stars.

I have to be honest, I’ve never seen Tangled so I can’t make any comparisons to the book.

However, this was such a cute, fun read. Honestly the only thing I didn’t like was that I prefer first person POV. But it didn’t keep me from enjoying the story.

A sweet, sheltered girl goes off to college and everyone is drawn to her! She gets to experience life and friends and a HEA.

Definitely recommend for romance & Disney friends. I flew through it!!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for my advanced copy.

This is a modern day retelling of Tangled/Rapunzel. It was fun to read and different, I was quite surprised at some of what happened. A clean romance, a family scandal, plot twist and leap of faith.
Ren's innocence and curiosity were a good contrast to Fitz's seriousness, definitely giving grumpy-sunshine vibes.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. A big thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my this was absolutely delightful! What a sweet and fun reimagining of Tangled. What I really thought was great about this book was that you could enjoy this book in a whole different way if you have never even watched Tangled. I really love Tangled so I really enjoyed finding the Easter eggs or similarities.

3.5 stars rounded up

I do enjoy Christina Lauren book and am likely to read any book that is published by the duo. Remakes on classic tales, whether it be Disney or Jane Austen, are typically not my thing. But I couldn't resist a quick book by a favorite author(s).

Tangled Up in You is a four-part series, by contemporary romance writers, retelling classic stories with a modern twist. This book is a retelling of Repunzel (or actually Disney's Untangled), but with a heroine who leaves for college after living off the grid her whole life.

Tangled Up in You is the perfect book for a rainy day. It's certainly not high-brow fiction, but it's a fun way to pass time. I loved Ren, the main protagonist, and her view on today's world. I also enjoyed the authors' interpretation of Untangled. I wanted to watch the movie again (but ended up just reading a synopisis to see how the two stories compared).

I absolutely loved this. Christina Lauren is one of my favourite romance duos, if not the favourite. And when I learnt that they were writing a repunzel retelling of sorts romance book, everyone knew I had to jump on it. It was adorable, it was tender and it was funny. I found myself smiling multiple times and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Perfect to read during the summer too!

Tangled Up in You

A light hearted “Tangled” retelling with grumpy sunshine and forced proximity.

Road trip adventures are so of my favorite romance stories and this one did not disappoint. Retellings are always a hit and miss for me. I don’t want it to be too close to home that I’m bored the entire time but this one was just right. The feelings stayed true to the story however and that’s what we are here for.

Overall this was a fun twist and I loved the modern day spin on a beloved story.

Christina Lauren is an author I go to when i need a reset. The duo manage to get me out of my reading funk every time. Firstly, love the cover for this. Secondly... i adored this story. I was instantly intrigued at this Tangled retelling, and I was not disappointed. It was funny, I loved the grumpy sunshine... the forced proximity. Just adored it all.

This one sadly missed the mark for me a tiny bit. Ren was a great Rapunzel character, but her naivety drove me up a wall at times. Overall this was still a very bingeable read and I love this series !

"Tangled Up in You" is a loveable modern-day retelling of Rapunzel and Disney's "Tangled." The characters, Ren and Fitz, have fantastic chemistry, and are a joy to read about. The road trip adventures they embark on are charming and keep the story engaging. Christina Lauren rocked it, as usual! This book is a standout in the "Meant To Be" series, offering a fresh and enjoyable take on the classic fairy tale. Highly recommended for fans of romance and light-hearted reads.

Tangled Up in You -This is a modern day retelling of Tangled/Rapunzel. This was a fun book to read— I am becoming a HUGE HUGE fan of Christina Lauren’s writing. This book was definitely tamer in regard to spice level. I also loved that the storyline has the two main characters going on a road trip! One spoiler is that part of the road trip takes them to Nashville -where I live! It was fun reading about their adventures around town! I have already requested the other books in this Disney series!! This one releases June 25! This gives you more than enough time to read the other books in this series! Thank you to @NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!

This was a fun, cute, quick read that I enjoyed. It was like a modern-day retelling of Rapunzel and Tangled.

this was actually so close to the tangled disney movie i’m impressed?
like the author managed to capture a very authentic disney movie feel while also remaining it’s own storyline (although yes it’s a retelling so it’s not truly its own storyline)
i still enjoyed it for the most part which is surprising considering i don’t have a great track record with romance or light romance books.
i read through it pretty quickly, almost lost interest somewhere in the middle but was picked back up by the ending. if you enjoy the tangled disney movie this is defo worth a shot!

Grown up isolated from society, Ren heads off to college for her first taste of freedom. When she meets bad-boy Fitz and the two end up on a road trip together , will opposites attract?

I very much loved this book. It almost took me back to older school Christina Lauren and Ren reminded me a bit of Hazel from Josh and Hazel; her character was soo endearing. These two characters had fantastic chemistry and I loved how their grumpy/sunshine relationship progressed. The plot was super fun and different, and a twist on your typical rom-com and a unique Rapunzel retelling. I highly recommend this book.

I thought this present day retelling of Rapunzel and Flynn was super cute. How they incorporated the Disney movie into present day scenarios for the main characters was very thoughtful, and made a great story.
