Tangled Up In You was probably my favorite Meant To Be book yet, although that’s not surprising because Christina Lauren always kill it!!
This one is a Rapunzel retelling (obviously!) and it was done so well. The characters are instantly lovable and the adventures that Ren and Fitz have on their road trip were so cute.
One of the things unrelated to the storyline was that the Rapunzel aspects weren’t super in your face the way some of the other authors for the series. I thought that they were woven organically throughout the story.
Thank you so much to Hyperion Avenue for the ARC of this!
As a fan of Tangled, I was very interested to read this adaptation and found it to be rather an interesting take on the classic fairy tale and a bit unexpected too. It was a sweet and cutesy romance and did not have any steamy scenes at all. Ren and Fitz on a road trip was fun to read as they personalities come out and their relationship grows as well. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a light, fun, cute happy read!
I have never been a super fan of children's fairytale adaptations into adult novels. Something about it makes me feel weird. But this book? Perfection. I think the innocence of Ren, in combination with the gentleness of Fitz, makes this a magical read. I can already see it on the big screen. 10/10 would recommend!

I really loved the concept of this book! I really appreciated the way they re-envisioned the character -- while also having her feel effervescent and innocent like Disney's Tangled. I also thought the plot was fun! I just, overall, didn't connect with her romance. I think this can be so highly subjective, though.
So, overall, highly recommended for any Disney fans. And Christina Lauren are always an auto-buys for me! This one just wasn't my favorite of theirs.

➡ For Ren Gylden, college isn't just her first time away from home, it's her first time away from the remote homestead where she's grown up, completely isolated from society. Having barely convinced her overprotective parents to allow her to attend school at Corona College after self-teaching herself 5 languages, basic engineering, vocal performance and painting, Ren is determined to make the best of the limited freedom she's been afforded.
When a DNA test for her immunology class comes back with some confusing results, she's determined to get to the bottom of who she really is- even if that means blackmailing Fitz, a uber-charming classmate with his own identity crisis, to take her on a road trip across the country. Together, they'll take on biker bars, highway woes and hotel slumber parties. But the biggest surprise in their adventure might just be the fireworks they find with the person they least expect.

🎯 What I loved: Rapunzel is one of my favorite Disney movies and this was such a fun modern twist on the classic. Christina Lauren did a fantastic job of portraying Ren's optimistic naivety and Fitz's charm and underlying goodness in a way that aligned with what I expected from the characters but also gave them a whole new level of depth. Fitz's 'I hate that I like her so much' attitude was portrayed perfectly and the banter, in true Christina Lauren fashion, was top notch but innocent. And though the romance was a huge part of the book, I actually favored the finding identity mission component that ended in a twist on romantic suspense that I couldn't put down. This was good, clean fun and Disney fans are bound to love it
🙅♀️ What I didn't: This read a little more YA than romance or adult fiction to me but it was still really fun!

*grumpy & Sunshine pairings
*Classic Disney retellings
*road trip romances
*dual POV
*romantic suspense

Christina Lauren you are amazing. This book. I hung on every word and absolutely loved it. I was shocked to be picked to read it and I am so thankful. This is a new favorite
It took me a minute but I came to love Fitz and Ren. It almost felt like the first half and the second half were two different books. But once they clicked, I couldn’t stop reading!
I really enjoyed this book. It was different than anything else I've read recently. I couldn't put it down! I will keep an eye out for this author's future work!
Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren is a re-imagining of the Rapunzel fairy tale and pays homage to the Disney movie Tangled. I've never read anything like this and I had a really fun time! This follows Ren and Max (who are complete opposites) as they journey along a road trip from Washington to Tennessee. What follows is a lot of personal and family discoveries. I enjoyed the relationship between Ren and Max and appreciated the disney esque feel of this book!
This felt very short and I would've loved a little more about them. But overall, it was a super fun read!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Hyperion Avenue for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This sweet retelling of Tangled was a must read for me since it was written by my auto buy author duo of Christina Lauren. It took me outside of my comfort zone and was a cute and light read.
The story follows Tangled fairly well but brings it into the modern world, with our main characters being in college. Ten is our 22 year old heroine who has been completely sheltered for her entire life, leaving her naive and extremely dependent upon her parents. She meets Fitz at college and is finds a way to come along with him on his road trip when she needs a way to get across the country.
The romance is sweet and clean, very YA. The entire story is just cutesy and feels like rainbows and butterflies, like it should have a fun soundtrack in the back. It was very different from a typical C.Lo book but had their usual fun banter and great tropes. It would be a great read for fans of YA romance!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
4.5/5 stars
This is a contemporary fairytale retelling of Tangled/Rapunzel.
I adore Christina Lauren. I look forward to their new releases every year. This book is a bit different from their typical books. But I really liked it.
The story follows Ren (a 22 year old) as she attends college for the first time. I'm actually sort of happy that I wasn't overly familiar with Tangled and Rapunzel. All I knew was that it was about a girl with very long hair being held in a tower. I was excited to see how the authors would incorporate parts of those stories while still making this new book fun and exciting.
Ren is honestly the best heroine. She is a very sheltered young woman so to me the book actually read more like a mature Young Adult book. I absolutely loved that she was naïve, but also brilliant in so many ways. I loved seeing someone who did not use the internet or have a cell phone. Someone who was raised in such a strict way finally be outside her parents' farm.
The main male character is 22 year old Fitz. When we meet him he is charming and arrogant. And I honestly didn't like him. However I really liked getting his point of view. And I really liked learning about the secrets that he was keeping.
This book is a bit different from the usual CL book and it's not super sexy. But it is so good. And I could not put it down.
The college that Ren and Fitz attend is in Spokane Washington. Her family farm is in Idaho. There are other US cities mentioned. But it would have been nice to give non-US readers a more clear understanding of how far these places were from each other as I was a bit confused.
Since I was less familiar with the Tangled story... and I also wasn't sure how closely the authors would follow it... I was quite surprised at some of what happened here. I really enjoyed this story. Although parts in the middle were just a bit too slow. I could not wait to see how things were going to play out. I definitely was not disappointed with the last part of the book. So many interesting and unexpected things happening. I found it riveting.
Overall this is such a fun book! I love that these authors tried something new. Such a fun fairytale retelling. And such an incredible new heroine to cheer for!
This was a really cute story. This was the first book I’ve read that is a princess retelling and I have to say i liked it, it was very cute and had me wanting to know the ending. But I feel like all of that build up at the ending just for them to end it like that? It felt rushed, it could have used the extra few pages rather than that ending.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC.
I have 100% found my new favorite Grumpy/Sunshine Romance Novel. This retelling of Disney's Tangled was a perfect mix of romance, comedy, and thriller (I'm not sure that's the right word for what this book does, but oh well). Ren and Fitz are thrown together on a roadtrip- two very different purposes and two very different personalities.
I immediately preordered the book when I finished.
This book was SO CUTE!!!!!!
Think sunshine, bubblegum, fizzy bubbles, and sparkling fireworks. It was like cuddling up with your favorite candies and best of friends for a fun, never ending sleepover of giggles and joy!
Ren and Fitz were the best of characters. They felt so real and I just wanted to hang out with them on all their adventures. Their chemistry was spot on and I loved watching them fall for each other.
If you’re looking for a sweet & clean (kissing only) romance with only one bed, grumpy & sunshine, with dual POV and larger than life characters you’ll eat this up like your favorite pint of Ben & Jerry’s. A funny and adorable retelling of the Disney movie Tangled.
There's no one more worthy to write a Disney remake than Christina Lauren. Tangled Up in You is a modern take on the story of Tangled. While I've never seen that Disney movie, I still really enjoyed this book! While this is part of a series loosely based on Disney movies, the unique style of Christina Lauren still shines through.
I loved the chemistry between Ren and Fitz. It felt genuine and sincere. Ren is a bit naive based on her upbringing and seclusion. It was sweet that Fitz never took advantage of that. And rather than finding her weird or unusual, he found it endearing.
This was the first I've read in the Meant to Be series and will definitely be going back to read the others.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Took a little bit for me to get into it…I think it was just my mood.. but it became a Cutesy, love story! The comparisons to the Disney version, were obvious but subtle enough that they worked and added some fun! Just a nice easy to read, clean romance, with a bit of family scandal, for added plot twists.
Great “cleanser” read in between some heavier topic books!
Thanks to Net Galley and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I requested this book, but I knew I had to read it A) Because I love Christina Lauren and B) I LOVE the movie “Tangled.” Let me tell you- I was not disappointed at all! This book stuck to the story that we know well, but gave it some super creative twists that I did not anticipate and that made it worth reading. Some attempts to write modern stories from fairy tales fall short and this book didn’t. The main characters are in their early twenties and in college. That was a pleasant surprise- I was nervous they would be too young for mature audiences to really enjoy, but I think the ages made it enjoyable. If the characters were younger I definitely wouldn’t have enjoyed this as much as I did. It’s a great story about following your heart and reminds you of the importance of enjoying the little things. I don’t think I need to say more- if you enjoyed the movie and are an adult or new adult, then you will absolutely fall in love with this book! #NetGalley #NetGalleyArc #Arc #ChristinaLauren #TangledUpInYou

Disney’s Tangled reimagined to a modern-day love story! This was such a cute, fun book. Ren’s character evolution was so entertaining to witness and I loved her banter with Fitz throughout their roadtrip. Easy to love main characters and a sweet story.
A sweet YA tale of many firsts. It is a college scene road trip falling in love with your perfect someone.
All first described very tenderly, beautifully and with kindness and sweetness only a young would is capable of.
This story follows a reimagined story of Tangled and does a pretty good job to sticking to the major points.
A perfect book for a YA read of many firsts and new beginnings.
Ren is a little older than the average college student when she decides to go off to Corona College, but then, nothing about Ren's upbringing has been too average. Growing up on the homestead, she learned to educate herself and take care of the crops and animals. When her parents reluctantly allow Ren to go to college, her whole life gets upended by new experiences. When Ren encounters a mystery about her upbringing, she chooses to disobey her parents for the first time ever and take a road trip with the charismatic Fitz.
I enjoyed the road trip tropes that followed Ren and Fitz across the country: only one bed, he falls first. Reading this book does feel like watching a Disney movie, and Christina Lauren did an amazing job updating the Rapunzel story.
I know I should have seen a turbulent ending coming (knowing the Rapunzel story), but I was a little unprepared for how turbulent, and I wish Ren could have had a happier ending. That said, it was a sweet and fun read.
