Tangled up in you is a take on Disney’s Tangled and of course written by Christina Lauren you know it going to be good and it was. They did a wonderful job writing this cute romance which is about an innocent young woman named Ren and a young man named Fitz who has his college plan all mapped out and knows his way around.
So when they meet up at college and Ren learns something that rocks her world she ask Fitz to take her to resolve a mystery which means they have to take a road trip together and that’s where things get a little interesting between the two of them they start noticing there’s a chemistry developing between them which makes this fun to read about. This is a cute romance which I enjoyed reading and if you’re a Tangled fan a must.
Thank you @netgalley and @christinalauren
This is part of a series by different authors called Meant to be Series which includes

Tangled Up In You
Such a great updated rendition of a classic fairy tale! I loved Ren and her fresh outlook on life. She was going to college after never having set foot in a "real" school her entire life. Ren was about to have her eyes opened. I could feel the sunshine on my face every time she spoke. Such. a pure soul. Fitz, sigh....just what Ren needed and same for Fitz. Fitz was the famed heartbreaker on campus. He needed someone that he was worthy of everything he had worked towards and more. This book was full of laughs, firsts, honesty, pureness of heart, and how love for a child can last forever, no matter this distance of circumstance!! A must read for 2024!!
Tangled Up in You is a modern day retake on Tangled or the classic Rapunzel story. Ren is going off to college to leave the safety of her sheltered life for the first time ever. A twist of fate lands her on a cross country road trip with the charismatic Fitz. Despite this being a retelling, there were enough twists and turns and humor to keep me quickly turning the pages to find out how this version of the story would end. It was a perfect combination of old story, meets modern twist, with humor, and some sweet romantic chemistry.
Thank you to NetGalley, Christina Lauren, and Hyperion Avenue for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I would definitely recommend this to Disney fans, readers of Christina Lauren, or anyone looking for a sweet romantic comedy.
The Disney/Hyperion's Meant to Be series has been hit or miss for me, but the upcoming release 𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐄𝐃 𝐔𝐏 𝐈𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔 (Pub 06.25) by Christina Lauren was a hit. Thank you Hyperion Avenue and Netgalley for the early access.
This modern-day romance retelling of Disney’s Tangled was so cute. It was a 'brain candy' type of read that had me flipping page after page. I loved catching all the nods to the movie.
𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒:
Forced proximity via road trip.
Swoonworthy closed door romance.
Fast-paced narrative with rich inner monologues.Chemistry & suspense.
Ren lived a VERY sheltered life and I had to lean into the "fiction" of it. Finn is protective in the sweetest way.
FWIW, my take on the Meant to Be Series:
𝘐𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘵𝘴 - enjoyed.
𝘉𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 - missed the mark.
𝘒𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 - skipped.
I love love loved tangled so reading this book was a semi-cheat read because I just knew I was going to love it. We follow Ren, our female main character, who was raised off the grid and Fitz, our male main character, a guy with a planned to the T life but of course his plans are going to go awry when ren crashes into his life and they go on a crazy journey together!
Rapunzel and Disney's take on it, have been some of my favorite fairy tales for years. I also already loved Christina Lauren, so this book was fantastic and it lived up to my excitement. Very cute, not very spicy, but very enjoyable and readable!
This was such a fun book! Definitely not what I was expecting, and I just loved it. A great, easy read that paralleled Rapunzel/Tangled.
Confession time - I haven’t seen Disney’s Tangled. So my review is strictly based off only reading Christina Lauren’s take on it.
Tangled Up in You combines my two favorite genres in one, romance and mystery. More like a touch of cozy mystery, but I absolutely loved that!
I feel like it was a typical Disney fairytale romance, so don’t expect anything spicy, but there is romance, although slow. The mystery part kept me on my toes and got me hooked. I loved the banter between Ren and Fitz in the beginning. I love how Ren could dish things back even though she’s basically been sheltered on a homestead her whole life. Ren and Fitz just made a cute couple and I wanted more. I didn’t want the story to end.
I haven’t read any other books in the Meant to Be series, so it could easily be read as a standalone. I will be reading the others now though!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the digital reviewer’s copy in exchange for my honest review.
The is a classic Christina Lauren romance, with a fun mystery twist. I enjoyed how they adapted to the Disney romance theme, and the cross-country road-trip was an entertaining read.
I really enjoyed this one. Even though it was a modern day retelling of “Tangled”, I thought it was unique and well done. Not only was this a romance novel, it also had thriller elements to it.
Ren isn’t your average college student, in fact, she isn’t your average girl. Ren has never been to school, she’s never been anywhere other than her small town and homestead. College is a big step for her. Everything is new to her- phones, cities, even just socializing. But Ren is smart, amazingly so. She’s also kind beyond words.
Fitz is the golden boy- he’s handsome, rich and a flirt. He’s also got a dark past that no one knows about. So what happens when he meets Ren?
Well you’ll just have to read the book to find out!
Another hit for CLo! Let me just telllll you. I was obsessed with this new twist on a Disney princess fairytale. Ever since Disney came out with Tangled....I have always wanted a book version of the movie. Christina Lauren exceeded my expectations!! If you want a cute romance mixed with Disney vibes, this is the story for you. Thank you NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for an early arc in exchange for an honest review.
I was excited to receive a complimentary copy of Tangled Up in You by Christina Lauren from NetGalley. Opinions in this review are completely my own.
I am a huge fan of Christina Lauren. While I have not read any of the other books in the Meant to Be series, it was not necessary to understand this story. This story has underlying ties to Disney's Tangled (Rapunzel).
I enjoyed this book from start to finish and I feel like this book could be appropriate for a YA audience due to less spiciness than other books by this author. I felt like the characters were written well and you were rooting for them on their cross country road trip. Ren's innocence and curiosity were a good contrast to Fitz's seriousness, definitely gives grumpy-sunshine vibes. Overall, a quick, fun read.
I loved if the show fits and I am pretty excited to read this one too! The eARC is corrupted or something because everytime I try to read it it will freeze up my kindle and I have to restart. (My kindle is doing fine with every other book I have) It's a bummer because the first few chapters I can get through it seems like a well written and error free experience!
The writing team of Christina Lauren are the queens of rom-com and I loved their modern, inventive take on the Rapunzel "Tangled" storyline. This is the fourth installment in the "Meant to Be" novel collection that features a variety of authors' modern takes on classic fairytales.
Ren Gylden is a 22 year old woman that has been raised on an Idaho homestead, hidden from society. Her parents, Steve and Gloria, have raised her without modern conveniences. She has been homeschooled and does arduous chores on their working farm.
When Ren applies to Corona College and is accepted, she is thrilled beyond belief. Her parents reluctantly agree to let her go but not without stringent rules and regulations that limit her use of technology, her personal time, and her weekends that will be spent exclusively at home with them.
At Corona College, Ren is jubilant about the beautiful campus, the chance to learn in classrooms with professors, and the ability to interact with fellow students.
When she is paired with hot boy on campus Fitz, she is warned about his womanizing ways. However, despite the warnings, Ren is drawn to Fitz.
When a DNA test in class reveals results that send Ren's whole life into turmoil she turns to Fitz for help. Fitz is grappling with his own fall-out from the DNA test that impacts his personal future. When this unlikely pair comes together for a road trip, both of their lives will be changed forever.
I loved the twists and turns of the story that definitely yielded some true surprises. Ren and Fitz's chemistry and enemies to lovers trope also brought the heat to this story. I love fairy tale adaptations and this was definitely one of the most fun and creative novels I've read on this subject.
This was a cute retelling! I loved this modern day twist on Tangled! This definitely gave the Disney type vibes, the nearly instant love and the precious ending.
Let me start by saying, I love Disney's Tangled. I've seen it a dozen times and I could watch it over and over again. So it's safe to say that I knew I would like Tangled Up In You. I really appreciated how Christina Lauren brought Ren and Fitz from screen to the book pages while staying true to the original on-screen characters. Because I've seen the movie so many times, i knew the basic plot of the book but I enjoyed how modern elements were weaved in throughout the story. Tangled Up In You makes me want to read the rest of the Meant to Be series!
This was a very enjoyable retelling of Tangled (Repunzel). If you liked the movie, you’ll enjoy this book. You really can’t go wrong with anything written by Christina Lauren.
I received an ARC from netgalley and the publisher.
3.5 shining stars ✨
I saw this cover & the authors and JUMPED for the opportunity to read this early!
I loved this author duo take on a Tangled retelling - it was actually pretty true to the original story and Ren & Fitz were delightful☺️
My main reason for knocking off a star and a half is that it is a very clean very YA story which was great for the story but not personally my favorite. HOWEVER, the tropes were great! A bit of suspense & forced proximity.
Overall I would recommend! Just don’t do what I did and expect this to be a NA or adult 🫶🏼
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this e-ARC!
This was the fourth book in the Meant to Be series, Disney movies remade into modern romances. I'm a big fan of Christina Lauren, so even though Tangled is not my favorite Disney story, I was excited to read this one.
I enjoyed the premise and how they adopted the story to make it believable. I liked the chemistry between Ren and Fitz, and I found the slow burn to be a perfect adaptation. I also enjoyed the ending!
Overall, I definitely suggest this one if you liked Tangled or have enjoyed other books in this series!
I don’t have kids and I’m not a Disney Adult, so I don’t watch many cartoons anymore, but Tangled is one of the more modern ones I’ve seen and enjoyed. When I saw that Tangled Up in You was a loose re-telling of the movie AND it was written by Christina Lauren, I knew I had to read it.
While I did like the movie, it had been a while since I’ve seen it, so I decided to watch it when I started reading this. I’m glad I did because I probably would have overlooked some of the fun references and related plot points without it. It’s a book that you don’t have to have seen the movie to enjoy, but I think it’s also something Tangled fans will like all the more.
Ren is a 22-year-old woman who has grown up on an isolated farmstead and has finally convinced her parents to let her go to college. While she’s never owned a cell phone or used Amazon, she has had access to books and older movies and makes weekly trips into town, so she’s not completely unaware of the outside world. Her innocence and naivete about it, though, first confuses and then endears her classmates and she’s quickly beloved by everyone on campus. Everyone but Fitz, though, who is afraid she can see through his fake persona and also threaten his record of being the top of every class. When a DNA test in one of those classes brings back an unexpected result for Ren, she capitalizes on catching Fitz in a compromising position to make him take her with him on a road trip across the country.
The story was sweet, if a little cheesy and over the top at times. I believe this is supposed to technically be an Adult book, but with the college aged main characters and the heavy themes surrounding parental relationships, it definitely read more like YA. That didn’t really bother me, though. This author duo is well known for their rather spicy scenes, but the romance here definitely stayed in the sweet category, which is what I generally prefer to read.
Overall, Tangled Up in You was a cute, quick read. Ren and Fitz were both likable characters and I shipped their romance. I didn’t always feel like Ren’s characterization was very consistent, though, and some of the things towards the end seemed a little over the top. However, it was still a fun read and I think fans of re-tellings will enjoy it.
