I liked this one! Overall, the book was really fun and lighthearted and the twist at the end was pretty exciting. I liked the characters and the growth throughout the book. I would say some of the dialogue could have been stronger but I’d still recommend this, especially to the people who love contemporary romance! I also really appreciated that this was not smut.
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for an e-copy of Tangled Up in You by Christina Lauren in exchange of an honest review.
"I thoroughly enjoyed 'Tangled Up in You' by Christina Lauren. The story follows Ren, who, after a sheltered upbringing on her parents' farm, takes a bold step and enrolls in college without their knowledge. The contrast between her awkwardness and her determination to be friendly to everyone, even the janitor, adds depth to her character. As Ren embarks on her college adventure, the authors skillfully depict her first experiences with technology and her surprising knack for fixing things. However, it's an assignment from one of her classes that truly sets the story in motion, leading Ren to break all the rules and embark on an exhilarating cross-country road trip with Fitz, a classmate she essentially blackmails into taking her with him. What ensues is a thrilling journey filled with unexpected twists and turns. While some chapters may feel slower in pace, the perfect blending of Disney magic with a modern twist makes this retelling of 'Tangled' a delightful read for Disney fans and newcomers alike."
Honestly I love pretty much everything by Christina Lauren, they are light and fun, have great banter, story lines to keep you interested and lots of chemistry. This one did not disappoint. The begining did have more story development then some of their others (actually in general the entire thing was pretty plot driven which I enjoyed). It had all the elements I have come to expect, particularly the first 2/3. The last part had me on the edge of my seat, I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep until I finished it.
This one is a little more PG then some of their other books, no explicit sex (actually not even implied sex) which was kind of nice for a change.
Boy do I hope everyone reading this book experiences it exactly the way I did. I prefer to go into books completely blind. Start from Page 1 and go from there. I don’t read back covers or review summaries. Call me slow but this did not register to me ad a modern-day ‘Tangled’ until Ren remarks “I don’t think I’d be able to get the straight line of his nose right” … then it hit me harder than a frying pan and everything started connecting beautifully. Once I connected the dots, this already enjoyable tale became like a true childhood dream coming true. Tangled was my favorite movie growing up and reading is my favorite thing to do as an adult. This combination joined with Christina Lauren’s masterful storytelling made this one easy 5 star read. I loved everything about it. No notes.
A super cute "real-life" version of Tangled with a little bit of a thriller mix thrown in.
I was hooked off the bat, but some parts lagged for me. Overall, a 3 star read.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this early! Anything Christina Lauren puts out, I’ll read! I love these modern versions of the classic fairytales too.
This was such a fun take on a tangled retelling! I generally really love Christina Lauren, and I think it’s been a big plus that they’ve diversified their portfolio over the last few years. I really like their serious stuff more, in general, but this one was an absolute delight! The nods to canon were an absolute balm to my shipping soul. Well done! Sure to be a hit.
Tangled up in you
Imagine the movie Tangled but make it present day, with modern technology but no magic hair. This book was so fun and almost wholesome (although there’s no spice except for some kissing).
Ren and Flynn meet at college. Ren, at 22, had to beg her parents to let her go to college, away from their homestead. They need her to do all the feeding, maintaining of their animals, and taking care of the grounds. They allow her to go to college as long as she comes home every weekend to keep up on her chores. She agrees to this. She has been extremely sheltered her entire life. She’s never used a smart phone or tablet, or watched modern tv shows or movies. This is evident at school. She is definitely the odd one out, but everyone seems to like her because she is very nice and extremely smart.
She ends up needing to travel across the country with her new friend Flynn. It’s a whole lot of adventure with ONE bed situations. This book actually pretty closely follows the storyline of the movie Tangled, sans magic- from the biker bar to swimming in a lake, to watching twinkling lights in the sky. Flynn is seriously the sweetest, best dude. I just fell in love with him!
I really enjoyed this book, and couldn’t wait to figure out the twist. I think if you enjoyed the movie, you would like this book as well!

Thanks to Hyperion Avenue and NetGalley for this eARC!
First I'd like to say that I did think this was super cute - Christina Lauren can obviously write a romance, and I was interested in how they'd translate the Disney Rapunzel story to fit into modern life. The setup to the story and the road trip worked for me pretty well, and again, Christina Lauren are engaging writers. I do think the ending of this one left a few loose ends, including one point of connection between Ren and Fitz that felt it could have been better explored and a big dangling thread between Ren and her family (keeping it vague so I don't spoil). Overall though, the main characters WERE really compelling! Know that if you're a Christina Lauren fan, that this is tamer than their other books, but is still super charming!
I haven't seen Tangled so I likely missed some of the connections, except of course Ren's long hair, but I still really enjoyed this addition to the Meant to Be series. I'm a big Christina Lauren fan which didn't hurt either! Ren and Fitz both have trauma and baggage to contend with and yet find kindred spirits in each other. Over the course of a road trip from Spokane to Nashville, they morph from casual nemeses to much, much more. This is a sweet, and slightly suspenseful, adaption of Tangled, and not to be missed!
This was cuter than I expected. Reading a romance book inspired by Rapunzel was a bit much from the start but as usual Christina Lauren delivered.
An adorable story revolving around Ren, a homeschooled 22 year old embarking to college and leaving the homestead and her parents in Spokane and her homestead for the first time where she runs into the college play boy Fitz. After taking a DNA ancestry test Ren embarks on an adventure to find if she has any more family, bribing Fitz to take her to Atlanta to possibly reconnect with family.
Along the way they realize they have feelings for each other but are they real or is Fitz really not to be trusted?
I would consider this a very tame book for Christina Lauren, not much in terms of smut and could possibly be shelved in the YA section,
Do you love all things Disney? Is Rapunzel a favorite of yours? Do you love the dynamic duo Christina Lauren?
Then this book is absolutely for you.
This is a YA interpretation of the movie Tangled with scenes that match up but vary slightly. There is no magic and it’s set in the United States, but it’s incredible how CL mixed in the movie scenes with this story. I absolutely loved their nods to the movie and their present day interpretation of the story.
This book won’t be for everyone but it is most definitely for Disney lovers.
Wow, this book was a pager turner. The story went into directions that I never expected. It was an fun read. I enjoyed Ren's character and was Fitz was a good compliment to hers.
This was an absolute delight. I love how Christina Lauren have modernized this story. If you've never watched the movie Tangled, that's fine it stands well on it's own. But if you are a fan of Tangled you'll be impressed how many scenes from the movie were incorporated into this book. Ren captures all of the enthusiasm and naivete that Rapunzel has in the movie, as someone who has been kept away from society to keep her safe. Similarily, Fitz possesses the same charm and slyness that Flynn Rider has in Tangled. This makes them so easy to root for. It is a wonderful slow burn as they each learn to trust each other. Add to that a fun road trip, an only one bed situation and a bit of romantic suspense and you have a superb modern day fairy tale
Thank-you to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the advanced readers copy. I highly recommend this. Bravo Christina Lauren I absolutely loved it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars
Tangled Up In You is the adorable modern reimagining of Disney’s Tangled. It follows Ren, a sheltered (to the extreme) 22-year-old who finally gets to attend college. There, she meets the charismatic Fitz. A few hijinks and mysteries later, the two end up on a road trip together. Now out in the real world, Ren and Fitz discover they may be more compatible than they thought.
How cute was this?? After a slightly slow start, I fell in love with Ren and Fitz. They had hilarious banter and their adventures were endlessly entertaining. Throw in a bit of mystery and you have a fun take on a classic story.

I like Christina Lauren but this wasn’t it. I wanted to love the whole disney collab but the characters fell short for me and I was never excited about their romance. Pretty boring and no sparks.
✨Thank you NetGalley and Hyperion for this ARC✨
I have been a Christina Lauren fan for many years and I’m working through their list of works. When I saw the opportunity to read this ARC I ran.
I have never read a fairytale retelling but this sets the bar high for others. Christina Lauren have this way of writing that captivates you and keeps you enthralled in the story.
A Modern retelling of Rapunzel that has perfect parallels to the Princess we all know and love. The subtle name changes of people and events, the plot that could be something that happens in real life, but still true to fairytale version, and a perfect tied up ending.
I adore Ren and Fitz’s love story. I wish I could stay in their world just a little longer💕
Tangled Up In You will be released 06/25/2024
I love Christina Lauren's books, but somehow this is the first time I've read one from their "Meant to Be" collection. I thought they did a really great job retelling Tangled, putting a completely modern twist on the timeless tale, with DNA tracing and smartphones putting a major twist in the story. Both Ren and Fitz were the types of characters you can root for, and I felt like they were well-developed in a way that their every move aligned with who they were (which can be difficult to craft as a writer). I will say that the final 25-30% of the book is where it really picked up for me and when the action started, I was all in!
Thank you to Net Galley and Simon and Schuster for the advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was SO FUN. I love Tangled and this book had such a fun modern twist on the story, it was obviously recognizable as a Tangled retelling but the plot twists still kept me guessing. Ren was a fantastic main character. I thought the love interest could have been a little bit more developed, but his story was still interesting. Overall, I felt like this read like a combo of a cozy mystery and a romance, and I loved it!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was skeptical, because Disney remakes seem cheesy and worn out.....but it was Christina Lauren, so I took a chance. I'm so glad I did, because what a clever take on the classic! They did a great job modernizing the story and keeping me entertained!
