I read this book in a matter of hours! Fitz and Ren are incredibly well-developed characters. Despite the foreknowledge that this was a take on the movie Tangled, which is a take on Rapunzel, and the expectations that accompany that, the characters' journey (both literal and figurative) is ripe with twists and turns. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This was very cute! A low heat (kissing only) contemporary retelling of Disney's Tangled. I felt a bit ambivalent about how extremely naive Ren was at first, but it was handled well, and I really loved how the ending dealt with the mental health repercussions of the surprisingly off-the-walls climax. All around I enjoyed this a lot!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc! Opinions are my own.

A truly remarkable tale full of life, love, truth, lies, loss and happiness.
This incredible story is absolutely addictive.
Ren has grown up with her parents on her family homestead. Living a life away from everything and almost everyone in her small Idaho farm.  Until she finally gets her parents to agree to let her go to college. She's never been to a normal school or had friends. So everything in there is like living in a whole new world.
Fitz has been summoned to give the newest student a campus tour. Trying to keep in the school good graces he agrees and meets Ren. Who is unlike anyone he's ever met.
This adventurous, addictive, traumatic, crazy love story has so many twists and turns that you really need to keep up with what's been told.  I loved every single second of it.
This is one book I'll truly never forget.
5 stars. Absolutely amazing.

Thank you to the publisher for a gifted copy of this book.

Tangled is one of my favorite disney movies so I knew I had to grab a copy of this one by my favorite romance writing duo. This modern retelling of Disney's Tangled is SO good! It's a classic grumpy vs sunshine and forced proximity trope but these characters each have such an incredible backstory that you become invested very quickly. Ren's innocence was endearing and Fitz's protectiveness over her was so adorable. The pages just turned themselves. This one is not spicy at all so it's perfect for the readers who want to keep it closed door.

Tangled is one of my favorite Disney movies, so when I saw that this was a modern day retelling, I HAD to request it from NetGalley (not to mention Christina Lauren is an auto-buy for me.)

Wow wow wow that was everything I imagined it would be. The tie-ins to the movie were so good! It was cute & funny with some romance (no spice) sprinkled in. I crushed the last few chapters so quick when the DRAMA hit. Fitz and Ren were everything and represented the characters so well. Grumpy + sunshine PERFECTION. The only thing that was missing was Pascal 🤷🏼‍♀️😂.

I didn’t know this was part of the Meant To Be series until recently. I should check out some of the other books in the series!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC!

Are you crying? I’m not crying. It just looks like this sometimes when I’m not crying.

I will admit, I was a liiiittle hesitant about this because Ren was SO sheltered and separated from everything. And that can be so touch and go in a romance. Because there’s naivety and then there’s NAIVETY, you know? But Fitz was so so soft with her, and was aware of the fact that there was an imbalance and kept letting the scales tip in her favor to keep her safe from things he could.

This was adorable, and dark, and there were lines that made me actually go “oh” out loud and other ones that made me laugh. It was sweet and wholesome and fun and an excellent modern retelling.

And honestly? I liked the ending. It fit.

Tangled Up In You is a great adaptation of the fairytale 'Tangled'. Every new experience is a wide-eyed adventure for Ren and falling in love will be her most exciting. It's a perfect young adult romance with a guaranteed feel good, happily ever after.

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was essentially retelling Disney’s version of Rapunzel so I guess using tangled in the title is apt. It was decently paced, but not very exciting or surprising. If you’ve seen Disney’s tangled, you’ve basically already read this book. Instead of being in a tower, the female main character was raised by her parents, (who she only called by name, Gloria and Steve) on a self sustained farm. The other deviation from the movie was some make out sessions with male main character Fitz and a skinny-dipping scene that was pretty G rated despite the nakedness. I just found it overall kind of boring. I like the other three books in this series because they had really unique takes on the classic fairytales. This was just Disney’s version, written down and beefed out a little to make it “adult“.

Tangled Up in You surprised me. After reading Kiss the Girl in this series, I knew I had to read this one too. One because I love a good retelling, and two because I love Christina Lauren's books. Their books always bring out so many emotions. Sure, I went into this book with high expectations. But at the same time, this book is completely different from other Christina Lauren books.

Tangled Up in You is told in third person and switches between Ren and Fitz. Ren has lead a sheltered life with no connection to a phone, the internet, and most television. She grows all her own food and lives with her mom and dad on a farm. She has convinced her parents to let her go to college at the age of 22; however, when she gets there and meets Fitz, she is opened to a whole new world.

While this book did take time for me to get into (60%), I truly enjoyed it. The ending had my heart racing and wanting to know what was going to happen next. I loved the character development for both Ren and Fitz, but especially Fitz and how opened up to Ren and finally let someone in.

This book can be read as a standalone and does not need to be read in order with the other books. If you love a book with college students, a road trip, and some mystery/thriller aspects, you'll fall in love with Ren and Fitz in Tangled Up in You.

I loved everything about this book...the fantastic characters, the grumpy/sunshine vibe, the humor, and how it paid homage to the movie without being in-your-face obvious about it. As a matter of fact, if the reader hadn't been told it was a retelling, I'm sure that many would not readily see the connection. It was a very fresh take on a well-loved story. I liked Ren from the very beginning. Even though she'd been sheltered all her life, she still had dreams and was willing to fight for them, no matter how scary. And, well, Fitz was everything I adore in a love interest...tortured and a bit angry at life...but open enough to be led back to the sunny side. I really enjoyed the laugh-out-loud moments, the fantastic road trip and, more importantly, the make-your-heart-grow-two-sizes love story. Does this story make me want to watch the movie again, sure...but mostly it makes me want to read the book again! Such a fun ride!

Oh my God! If you love Tangled, read this book IMMEDIATELY. I haven't read a Christina Lauren book that disappointed me. 100% rec their books if you are looking for a breezy, entertaining read.

I absolutely loved Ren and her super cute personality. She lived a sheltered life with her parents in a farmin Idaho and has no idea how the world functions (Google? College? Browsing internet? Swear words?) but she knows her way around (picking locks, knowledge from books and old movies, prepping to be self sufficient). Fitz is a darling. I laughed at their banter and Ren's confusion at the ways and slang words of the world. The ending/climax felt too easy, but hey, no complaints.

‘A witty and deeply romantic modern reimagining of Disney’s Tangled, by the New York Times bestselling author duo Christina Lauren, part of the acclaimed and bestselling Meant to Be collection.

She has a dream. He has a plan. Together they’ll take a leap of faith.’

This was okay. I think my daughter would enjoy it much more than I did as I felt like it was definitely more YA than AF. Cute, sweet (aside from crazy Gloria) with a big dose of naivety and some cheeseball moments.

Thank you NetGalley & Hyperion Avenue for this arc!

This was such a fun take on the Rapunzel story! I loved it so much, and I loved all the bits that referred to 'Tangled'. This is a really good addition to this series, and I'm for sure keeping it in mind for reader's advisory.

*I was given a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I want to start by saying that I have loved pretty much everything I've read so far by Christina Lauren. I don't even normally like contemporary romance but I love their signature witty humor and they are basically the only contemporary authors I actively seek out. Which is why this particular book fell flat for me. It was very different from their other books.

First of all, I would categorize it as YA. NA at the most. It feels very young and didn't have the normal spice level that I'm used to with this author duo. By normal spice level, I mean there is zero in this one. Not that spice is essential, but I just wasn't expecting it to feel so... teen.

I was missing the humor as well. There were a couple of funny moments. But, overall, it has a much darker tone than their other books.

I know it is a Tangled retelling and that's why I went for it, but some parts seemed a little too "on the nose" for my taste. With retellings, I like for them to be close enough to the original for you to know its a retelling, but not glaringly obvious. I like to have to think and make connections to the original instead of them being thrown in your face. The biker bar scene in this was one example. I just thought it was a little cheesy because it was too close to the scene in Tangled. This is another thing that made it seem like it was geared to a younger audience. As an adult, I don't want to be thinking of the Disney version when I'm reading a romance book and expecting some spice (which doesn't happen, unfortunately).

I thought some of the dialogue was a little cheesy as well. All the "baby" and "baby girl" and stuff was a little cringe. That could just be my pet peeve though because I hate nicknames/pet names.

Fitz/Edward (yes I thought it was super ironic that his real name ends up being Edward and he's from Washington) missed the mark for me too. He was sort of just... there. He served to move the plot along and get her where she needed to go, but I felt like there was very little character development with him and I never really understood him. I also thought their relationship progressed a little too fast. Falling in love in a few days is not really my style. Especially when they had barely talked and knew very little about each other. He kept hiding stuff and that annoys me. There was no reason for him to hide his past. It was made out to seem like he was a bad-boy delinquent but really he was just an unfortunate victim of a (very realistic) messed up foster care system.

I did like Ren. She's quirky, unique, and refreshing. Not your typical FMC. I was very invested in her journey and was rooting for her. I felt like her story was resolved too quickly though and the story ended very abruptly. I could have used a little more information at the end.

It does have the one bed/force proximity trope that I am a sucker for. However, I found it a little lacking. The usual awkwardness that I enjoy with that trope was missing. They just went to sleep, woke up, went about their business like nothing happened. I definitely wanted more.

Overall, its a cute book if you're just looking for a Tangled retelling with one bed, miscommunication, and insta-love tropes. However, if you expected a typical Christina Lauren romance with a unique plot, tons of humor and banter, and a nice scoop of spice, you might be disappointed.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review.

Tangled Up In You was a true disappointment, especially after how great Christina Lauren's most recent books were.

I was really interested in this when I read that it’s a modern retelling of Tangled. Ren is 22 and has never left home before. She’s grown up on a farm with her parents and been very sheltered. She manages to convince them to let her attend college where she meets Fitz, a charming playboy who has an agenda post-graduation.

In one of her classes, Ren takes a DNA test and receives a parental match to a man in Atlanta that makes no sense to her. Knowing Fitz plans to go to Nashville, she blackmails him into taking her along with him so she can meet this man. Along the way, the two have fun adventures and start to fall for each other. Twists and turns follow that, and it all wraps up.

I greatly liked this book, and I hope Christina Lauren plan on doing more retellings like this in the future.

Thanks as always to NetGalley for the ARC.

Who doesn’t like a fairytale retelling? I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Christina Lauren. When you’re looking for the perfect rom-com the duo always delivers. The chemistry between the two MC was present and the wit and banter was great! I would recommend this for more of a YA read.

I received this ARC via NetGalley and Hypervision Avenue in exchange for an honest review.
