Tangled Up In You is modern day retelling of Disney's Tangled following Ren as she discovers the world with Fitz.

I love everything Christina Lauren and I love everything to do with Disney - so this book was a dream to read! They captured the magic and chemistry between Rapunzel and Flynn so well, and I loved how they made sure to keep her naivety, brightness, and innocence. Seeing their relationship blossom was such a joy!

As expected we have a story that follows the major plot lines of Rapunzel. The book was very reminiscent of Tangled the movie. The story is told through dual POV of the lead characters Ren and Fitz.

Honestly was not a fan, the writing just did not live up to what I expect and love from Christina Lauren. I found the storyline to be very flat, and I was never engrossed in the story. I had to force myself to read it, honestly would have DNF’d the book, but I love Christina Lauren that I had to read it through to give them the benefit of the doubt. It took a while for the story to pick up, but by that point I just wanted to get the book done and over with that I was more interested in finishing the book than the story itself.

Despite not having enjoyed this book, I still am thankful to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

I really loved this book! It was so cute. I kept smiling the entire time while reading. It was a bit cheesy, unrealistic but also predictable. Still I had 5/5 enjoyment from this book, so I gave it a 5 star rating! Christina Lauren remains one of my favorite authors. I will link my Bookstagram review when it’s posted soon.

Welp, this was adorable. A Tangled retelling with modern twists. I thought this was so cute. I loved how the authors tweaked the scenes in the movie to makie sense for the plot. (The bar scene, the festival, the isolation from society).
I dont want to give anything away so I will just say this. If you love the movie Tangled you 10000% need to read this one.
I have a dreammmmmm, she has a dreammmmm.

Wow! I never would have thought a retelling of Tangled would be so, so, amazing! I loved everything about this book and it kept me up late. Great character development and a believable romance.

Such a fun twist on this classic. A modern retelling of Disney's Rapunzel with everything you'd expect. Cute and fun, definitely worth a read.

I am a huge Christina Lauren fan so I was super excited to try this! It's sweet, innocent, and unlike any other book they have written. I think it would've been better marketed as an upper YA romance!

I…. Whoa. Okay so.. let me start by saying that I almost didn’t like this book. The first few chapters of the book made me dislike Ren. She just seemed so overly naïve. Once she got to college though, oh my god. Everything started to come together. She was so amazing from that point on. Did I expect the twist at the end? Of course. It was a retelling of tangled. What I didn’t expect is how it played out and I loved that I didn’t see most of it coming. I really enjoyed this book. I was even rooting for Fitz by the end of it and he really rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning. So good!! Also, there isn’t much spice in this book but I expected that since it was a Disney publishing company.

This story is a retelling of Disney's Tangled, but with Christina Lauren's contemporary romance twist. A sweet tale of growth and evolution, with some mystery and intrigue. A great, fun read!

I have read a lot of Christina Lauren books, Are they my favorite authors? Not, but I will say that they are SAFE. I know I'm going to get an entertaining romantic storyline with two solid characters that I probably like just enough and above average writing. Short story, I know I'm going to be entertained. They have the formula down.

That is the reason why I requested this! And then the fact that it was a retelling sounded cute! I was interested.

And then promptly let down? I just felt like this felt really out of scope of what I am used to from CL. I was bored. And I truly had to force myself to finish it and see it through. It was just slow overall.

Maybe it was the story they had to take on?

It was still cute, and a DECENT read, but overall let down a bit. I also think it would have been better marketed as an upper YA read,

Thank you Hyperion Avenue for the ARC. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.

writing: good | plot: tangled remake so who am I to judge? (yet here I am) | ending: very disney-esque

my opinion

I have a confession: I HAVE NEVER SEEN A DISNEY PRINCESS MOVIE. No, I didn't grow up in a cult. No, I didn't grow up off the grid. No, I'm not lying. My mom just didn't fk with Disney princesses and then when I had the freedom to watch them myself, I just wasn't interested. I haven't seen Tangled, but I did aggressively skim the movie's Wikipedia page so I knew what to expect. With all that being said—don't put any stock in this review if you've actually seen the movie because I would assume you'd have a TOTALLY different experience.

Knowing this was a 'modern' spin on Tangled made the insta-love and whirlwind HEA less cringey. This did kind of brush nips with the romantic suspense genre I guess? But a VERY light brush. Like there was a whole ass who's my daddy? storyline complete with villains and a big show down, but it wasn't giving Sandra Brown or Christina Dodds.

The one thing I was nervous about was if there was going to be spice between Ren and Fitz. Not because I'm scared of spice (anymore), but because it would be UNCOMFY if she gave it all up to a random she's on a road trip with after her extremely sheltered childhood. Thankfully, no explicit spice.

Overall, I thought this was okay. I liked Ren's character and I eventually warmed up to Fitz. It was slow-going at the beginning and I wanted more lols but nothing really irked tf outta me. However, nothing made me kick my feet and giggle like an idiot either so therefore... 3 stars.

pros and cons

pros: felt like I was watching a Disney movie even though I've never seen one but this is what I imagine it to be like ok bye

cons: need. more. bants.

I really loved this story! Tangled is one of my fav disney movies so reading this was a must for me :)
Ren is the perfect Rapunzel character! she's so genuinely kind, generous, welcoming and hopeful. I loved her whole perspective on life, always finding ways to be happy and learn more. And Edward (Fitz) was so cute, I loved how grumpy he was, refusing to believe Ren is as amazing as she is at first. I love their cross-country road trip and how their journey matches so well with the Tangled movie! I really loved seeing Edward come out of his protective shell and open himself up to love with Ren. And the way he protects her is so swoony. Overall, this was the cutest disney movie retelling, I loved how authentic to the movie the plot was, and I loved Ren & Edward toghether so much, as much as I loved Rapunzel and Eugene :)

Ren Gylden is going to college at age 23, her first time being away from her parents and the homestead on her own. She's warned not to fall for Fitz's charms by her new roommate and takes that to heart. When she discovers some disconcerting news in one of her classes, she blackmails Fitz into driving her to Nashville with him over spring break. He wants nothing to do with the naive woman, but finds himself intrigued and enamored with her the longer they're together. Determined to protect her, he gets her to share the reason she's on this trip and her ultimate goal. Who knows what awaits both of them on their road trip--danger, discovery, cameraderie...love?

A fun take on a classic princess tale.

A modern retelling of Tangled plus a Christina Lauren book, yes please! This was exactly what I was hoping for and it was SO STINKIN CUTE! Thank you Net Galley For the ARC!

I loved it! This love story is a bit shorter than the authors other books, has great banter and hijinks, and is a swoony modern day fairy tale perfect for young adults and new adults. (Although those
of us young-at-heart adults who read YA will find it perfect as well.) Christina Lauren absolutely nailed the references to Disney’s Tangled, but in such smart ways that even if you aren’t familiar with the movie, you will still find the book enjoyable. My family has watched the movie so many times, that all the easter eggs included in the book were super fun surprises that made the story even more adorable. Like the movie, this book takes a dramatic and fearful turn that kept me turning page after page. The romantic suspense vibe pushed the plot along at a perfect pace and ended in a thrilling conclusion. Plan to be surprised and delighted with this latest addition to Hyperion Avenue’s Meant to Be Collection.
Thanks so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC to read and review. All opinions are my own.

I have been a fan of this writing pair for years. I have also really enjoyed reading the various books from the Meant to Be series. So when you put them together I knew I had to read this book!

Tangled Up in You was a delightful and creative modern retelling of Rapunzel. Ren has largely been kept from the real world while living with her parents on their homestead (which I think was genius). She was reluctantly allowed to attend college with a long list of rules. Upon arriving she is given a tour by Fitz and the spark begins. Its hard to imagine a twenty-something who has never seen an iPhone, nevermind had one of her own. And yet we get to experience the joys of Ren. Her naivety could have been annoying but instead, it was refreshing and well done. Just like Fitz, it made me want to take a new perspective on the world and what we all take for granted.

Christina Lauren added in little details and characters from other Rapunzel stories in such cute ways.

I really enjoyed this story and liked that it was creative and cozy.

I was incredibly nervous about this book. Not only do you get a retelling of sorts, but it’s Disney. Taking a well-known children’s movie and creating a new adult book is brave. And really, the reason I got it? Because I trust in Christina Lauren.

I really enjoyed that they didn’t try to incorporate the exact storyline, but highlighted the major themes in the movie. The translation from movie to something relatable that has been seen in the news was done seamlessly.

This book is incredibly cheesy and cute, but not so much that it’s cringy. I highly recommend watching the movie first to prepare what you’re in for. Going in without that could make this seem incredibly immature.

Thankfully, there wasn’t any spice, otherwise I think it could have given the ick.

This is a perfect read if you need quick and light-hearted.

First of all, Tangled is one of my very favorite Disney movies. So, when I heard that CLo was doing a Rapunzel retelling, I knew I had to read it. I am happy to say that it totally lived up to my expectations, & then some.

I adored this story! I loved the set up at college & the road trip adventure. The concept was A+. There were so many clever Easter eggs that pointed back to the source material. Pascal the cat & Max the car… very clever & fun! Ren & Fitz were such a lovely couple. The way their relationship grew felt really organic & sweet. This one was a winner for me!
