A cute, modern spin on Rapunzel/Tangled. Ren and Fitz are adorable and I love their opposites-attract love story! But the story felt like a tease (where’s the 🌶️ ???)and got very dark at the end.
I love Christiana Lauren’s books, so when I saw this book I decided to get it a try. I was nervous about the Tangled references and it took me awhile to start the book. But when I did finally start it, I read it in 2 days. It was a great story about a sheltered girl who goes off to college and leaves her homestead life for the first time at 22. It is about her trying to adjust to this life. She meets another student, Fitz, who she is warned is a player. However, she ends up desperate for a ride to Atlanta and ends up on a road trip with him to find about about her history. A bit of a mystery and love story. I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoy this who re-telling series and as a fan of Christina Lauren, this one didnt dissappoint. It was cute and had teh perfect amount of romance.
This was such a fun and sweet reimagining of Disney's Tangled! The authors did a great job modernizing the classic tale and I fell in love with Ren and Fitz. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves Rapunzel and/or fairy tale retellings.
Things I loved:
-Dual POV
-Grumpy/Sunshine
-Unique character backstories
-College setting
-Road trip across the US
Yes yes yes a million times yes. This was just the read I needed right now! Christina Lauren will forever be one of my faves!
YES YES YES. Christina Lauren doing a reimagining of Tangled?? YES PLEASE. This was so whimsical and fun. It's exactly what you'd expect a novel from them to be. I finished this in one night.
I love Christina Lauren and Rapunzel so when you have both of them put together I had to have it! I think these authors did a great job of doing a Tangled retelling!! I really enjoy their storytelling abilities anf making stories their own!
This was a great adaptation of Rapunzel! I really loved the characters and how the story was adjusted to be a modern day novel. I highly recommend this title and it should be a must-buy for public libraries.
MODERN DAY TANGLED RETELLING MY FELLOW DISNEY ADULTS AND ROMANCE READERS RISE!!!
this was so cute and fun and then so heartfelt and emotional towards the end i was obsessed. and let me just tell you the ways that this book modernized the scenes from the movie to actually be like tangled was so fun and creative i was shocked every time. like the car they ride in being named max??? perfection. just another all around fun read from Christina Lauren!
special thank you to Hyperion Avenue and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book!
Tangled Up in You was a quick easy read that was unlike Christina Lauren’s other books. She is one of my favorite authors so I was surprised by this shorter novel. However, I enjoyed it enough. It was definitely a much more innocent PG book compared to her other books. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this cute novel!
Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren is a Tangled reimagining that stands all on its own. Ren, our main character, is a sheltered girl with a very private home life who convinces her parents to let her go off to Corona College. She’s given very strict rules and is prepared to play by them. It’s there that she meets Fitz, a playboy with an agenda on his own. When a class assignment yields results that makes Ren question everything she thought she knew about her past, the two find themselves on a road trip together where chaos and tension ensue.
Ren is incredibly smart and her remarks are hilarious to read, as she definitely does not have a filter. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and wants to explore the world, while still respecting her parents wishes. Over the course of the road-trip, Ren grows more and more comfortable with doing things because she wants to, rather than doing what is expected of her.
Fitz made my heart so happy. As a Disney lover who grew up loving Flynn Ryder, he translated over so well to the page. He’s misunderstood, he’s witty, he makes flirty comments, he sweeps Ren off her feet from the moment they meet. He has selfish motives in the beginning, just wanting Ren to give him some distance. But, as one does in a romance, he learns how feelings grow and how much he starts to care for Ren.
I love the dynamic between Ren and Fitz. They are grumpy x sunshine without a doubt and I loved every page. There’s something so innocent about their romance that just tugged at my heartstrings. All I wanted for them was a happily ever after and i’m happy they got it. Overall, I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy of this book. This is a contender for my favorite romance of the year!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was cute. The FMC, Ren, lived a fairly sheltered life on her parents' farm, but when she’s 22 she decides to enroll herself in college in Spokane without telling Her parents. They finally agree to let her go but give her this insane list of rules for her to follow while she was at school, and insisted they be able to pick her up every Friday to bring her home. While at school, everything is a first for her. Shes awkward but tries so hard to be as friendly as possible to everyone including the janitor. She's never used any technology, but can fix just about anything. An assignment from one of her classes throws her an curve ball and next thing you know she’s breaking all the rules and taking off on a cross country road trip with Fitz, one of her classmates, who she basically has to blackmail to take her with him The ending is a bit of a twist if you aren’t familiar with tangled but you can almost feel it coming at the same time. I can almost guarantee if you are like me the minute you are done reading this you will be watching tangled.
As soon as I heard Christina Lauren was doing a Tangled retelling I IMMEDIATELY knew I had to read it! This book did not disappoint! I haven’t watched Tangled in many years, so I can’t really compare the two. The book was a little slow to start for me, but ended up being a really fun read - I really enjoyed it overall!
I just loved Ren and Fitz! Their dynamic and intriguing stories and their loveable personalities really hooked me as a reader! This book did a great job at meshing that magical Disney feel with a modern day twist! So with that in mind, I highly recommend giving this a read, especially if you’re a Disney fan or a fan of Tangled! ✨

A big thank you to Hyperion Avenue, NetGalley and Christina Lauren for this eARC!
This was unexpectedly and pleasantly a lot more intense than I thought it would be. Going off of the cover, I was expecting more of a sweet romance about a girl spreading her wings and maybe fumbling along a bit and a guy who needed some direction. I got that and then some! This book weaves a kind of mysterious web throughout the sweetness that I can't go into without giving up the entire ending. Let's just say that there's a twist that I didn't see coming until part way through.
Ren is a great character because she's naive in some ways and incredibly independent in other ways. The way she was raised and her distant yet close relationship to her parents has made her learn things about the world that most of never do. Meanwhile, we learn the social norms and things where she didn't. She was sweet and yet so ferocious at the same time. I loved her!
Fitz broke my heart a little bit. He was so lost and alone, but on the outside appeared not to be. I loved the way he gave into Ren bit by bit and how supportive he became of their journey. When they first go together I had legit butterflies. It was just that sweet.
Overall, I loved this book and I will definitely be reading it again. If you've loved other Christina Lauren books, you will absolutely love this one, too!

I'm a reader who likes Spicy with a capital S. And generally, I know that I'm going to get that (or close to it) with Christina Lauren. Not so here—and in this instance, I actually really appreciated it. Ren and Fitz (no spoilers) had a sweet, sweet, beautiful dance that took them from enemies to lovers (sort of and sort of). No, their relationship is never consummated, but frankly, it was perfect. I loved the path of discovery that this novel took. Again, it's not *my* norm, but I could absolutely appreciate it for what it was.
I adored this book! Christina Lauren never really misses, but I wasn't sure how they would play this one. Turns out it was the perfect blend of modern and fairytale, and even handled the "what happens after" with such grace. I wasn't prepared to be crying about this reunited family, yet there I was. I really hope they do more of these; this was such a wonderful experience!
I love The Meant to Be series. This book was amazing and had me hooked. Ren has lived on a homestead her whole life and has never been to school. She teaches herself to learn and to read. She applies to school and gets accepted because her test scores are really high. She is so new to society and when she moves into the dorm, she is surprised.
She meets Fitz and he shows her around. In a shared class, she is asked to do a DNA test and the story takes off. She soon learns that her dad is not her dad. She goes on a road trip with Fitz and he shows her things that she doesn't know. They make stops so that she can experience things that she has missed out on. She begins to have feelings for Fitz. I loved how different this telling is from the original story.
This book is filled with adventure and is one of the best retellings that I have read. The ending was amazing and I will be recommending that we buy this for my library. I will also be adding it to my personal collection at home.
Thank you NetGalley and Disney Publishing Group for allowing me to receive this as an arc.
The dynamic duo Christina Lauren returns with Tangled Up In You, a contemporary fairy tale published by Disney's Hyperion Avenue. Tangled Up In You is the modernized retelling of Tangled. I will absolutely read anything written by Christina Lauren, so I was incredibly excited to get this ARC. As always with this team, the crackling chemistry and character banter leapt off of the page. I found the adventure aspect to be intriguing, and found some parts to be really suspenseful. What really impressed me about this book was the fresh take on a stale tale. I mean, who doesn't love Rapunzel? However, we have all been there and done that with the story. The plot of this novel didn't feel tired or contrived. It somehow maintained the magic of the fairy tale while refreshing the whole premise. Lesser authors may not have been up to the task, but, as usual, Christina Lauren knocked it out of the park. Thank you, NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue, for early access to this whimsical romp.
This book had a lot going on. It is apparently a take off of the Disney movie Tangled but with Christina Lauren’s own twist. While I think this is categorized a rom-com there is a definite thriller/suspense element to this as well.
Ren grew up in rural Idaho on a farm where she was also home schooled. She is allowed to attend university but under strict conditions laid out by her parents. She meets Fitz and is instantly enchanted by him. When Ren learns some disturbing news about her family DNA during an Immunology course, she sets off to find out what this information could mean. It requires her to go to Atlanta. A city she has never been to before. Fitz offers to give her a lift part way across the country. Along the way, they learn a lot more about each other and their own life goals. Ren soon finds herself in dire straits. Will Fitz be able to rescue her in time?
I had to suspend belief a few times while reading this book, but it was enjoyable nonetheless . It kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen to Ren. I do really enjoy Christina Lauren’s books. Thanks to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
