Christina Lauren is one of my very favorite authors and I grab their books before all others on my TBR list. That being said, Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren fell short of my expectations. While the writing was solid, the story didn't capture the essence that I typically associate with Christina Lauren's writing. It lacked the signature charm, spice and humor that make their books stand out. Overall, an average read but not the experience I anticipated.
I have never really read a romance inspired by a Disney movie and I was so happy to read this book. And it was amazing! If you love tangled at all you should read this book!
I love Christina Lauren and Tangled Up in You doesn't disappoint. Tangled is my favorite Disney princess movie and I absolutely love this adaptation. Plus, they touch on the problems society faces being so dependent on our phones. Technology is great but maybe we all would be happier and more fulfilled if we lived a little more like Ren. Most read 5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and Christina Lauren for this arc.
Do you love Disney? Do you enjoy romantic comedies? This book is for you!
Disclaimer: I am not a Disney girlie; however, I am a Christina Lauren girlie. Therefore, I HAD to read this book! I am not disappointed in the least, and I LOVED every part of this story! The ending is a definite plot twist so read to find out more!
There is only kissing in this book, but the transition of feelings of Fitz made me super giddy and, in the end, the admiration we see of Fitz' character towards Ren made me fall in love with him, myself! Ren's character is exceptionally loveable and I adore her! Ren and Fitz are perfect for each other and Christina Lauren did a fabulous job! I still stand by all things C.L. and will continue to support! Thank you for the ARC!
Tangled Up in You follows Ren who with her family has been living off the grid for 22 years. But this year everything is changing because she is going to college. Fitz is at the top of his class at Corona College and has his life mapped out for him. When Ren comes to Corona College she challenges Fitz in his top-class spot. Everything changes when they get an assignment in their immunology seminar. Soon Fitz and Ren are on a road trip together and they two soon realize that their dreams might be in front of them the whole time.
The Ment to Be series has become one of my favorites as a Disney adult. This one is now my favorite in this series. I loved this retelling of Tangled. The relationship between Ren and Fitz was so dang cute. I love how Fitz helped Ren become her own in this book. I loved the adventure vibes of this book as well. I enjoyed that spice level in this book fit the vibes of the characters without being too much. Also, Christian Lauren will always be one of my go-to romance authors. At this point when they write a book I know I am going to love it. If you love Disney or cute romance books this is the book for you.
I will always prioritize a Christina Lauren book when I get an ARC from Net Galley. This installment from the Meant to Be is a bit different from their normal work, but it’s also a sweet and fun retelling of Tangled. I think some of the fairy tale elements become a little silly in trying to mesh them with a modern-day setting, but this is still a delightful read.
Soooo precious!!! Thank you so much to @netgalley, Christina Lauren, and the Disney Publishing Group for the ARC and the chance to review this take on Rapunzel. I could not love Fitz and Ren more. Super sheltered Ren grew up on a homestead in rural Idaho and finally talked her parents into letting her go away to college. Ren is incredibly smart, and so naive - so lovable. Fitz is the big man on campus, full of charm, but he’s totally hiding something. Ren was going to give him a run for his money and take the top grade. He doesn’t want to like Ren, but her ebullient nature is wearing down his frustration with her.
A darling fairy tale retold, sweet as could be. The reader gets to tag along on a fun roadtrip! This is a must-read for romance lovers!
I was so excited to get the opportunity to read this! I loved the quirky character of Ren and the story line. Enjoyed the added suspense so much I read the novel in one sitting.
Another great book by the dynamic duo! I loved this retelling of the cutesy Disney classic. It takes the story of a young beauty raised in isolation, and brings it to present day. Of course, along comes a love interest who may or may not not be who he seems……and he makes her question everything about herself. There is a smidge of the enemies to lovers, good girl vs. bad boy and a dash of forced proximity just for fun. If you like romance but you’re not necessarily wanting the spicy love scenes, this is a great book for you. Although I had the plot figured out pretty early on, it was still very engaging and the characters are lovable. I love the typical rom-coms that Christina Lauren does so well, but I really enjoyed that this one threw in a dash of suspense. I would absolutely recommend this book to fellow readers.
I sincerely thank Christina Lauren, NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced e-copy of this book. I was not paid, nor was I required, to write this review.
I love this book! This was a great re-telling of Rapunzel and Tangled specifically. I did not think of the implications of what that movie would translate to in the modern world, and Lauren found solid modern parallels to Rapunzel’s story. I really liked the college (Corona) and how Ren (Rapunzel) realized her life was not so perfect.
The characters were great— Ren and Fitz had palpable chemistry. I also appreciated the way Gloria and Steve were written; they were chilling and just perfect both in the story and in Ren’s memory. The Snuggly Duckling-type scene was just as iconic, and I really enjoyed the entire journey. Such a great re-telling and a fun book!
They just never miss! I love Christina Lauren so much and have read anything of theirs I can get my hands on. Take CLo and add in one of my all time favorite Disney movies?? Just couldn't get better. 5/5
In Tangled Up With You the writing duo brings us their reimagining of the well-known story of Rapunzel but now in the modern world. Our protagonist, Ren, has lived her entire life on a farm, with many rules imposed by her parents and little knowledge of the world outside her home, everything changes when at 22 her parents finally let her go away to study at college and Ren ends up on a crazy journey of self-discovery.
I really liked Christina Lauren's stories and this wasn't the exception, the book was such a nice read, the characters were interesting and charismatic, loved how they put their own magic and spin into this tale. The book comes out on June 25th, 2024.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Such a cute fun book! Loved it from the first page and kept me interested the entire book. Super cute quirky characters and a fun story that weaves it together. Christina Lauren never disappoints!
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
What a cute read this was! I mean Yes, the plot was predictable ( as anyone who's read or seen tangled will know, of course)! Nevertheless, it was such a fun take of the beloved tale with a contemporary and college twist. Ren and Fitz are absolutely adorable together, so I highly recommend any romance book lovers to check this out!
This is book number 4 in the Meant to Be Collection, a modern retelling of Disney stories. This is Rapunzel's story and while you will read some similarities to the beloved movie (yes, there is a Pascal!) this story is a whole new vibe with CLo swag.
Be prepared to experience your "firsts" again. Reading this made me nostalgic for the memories I have made during my life and wishing my memory were just a bit fresher to be able to experience them again.
Favorite scene by far, the Screaming Eagle! :)
Spice level: very very tame.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC opportunity.
This was so much fun! I love anything by Christina Lauren. I was instantly drawn in by the cover and the story delivered!!!
It was fun, cute, steamy, sweet all wrapped up in a pretty bow. They always manage to write such nice stories and I loved the tangled inspiration. It was EVERYTHING!!!
Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was adorable. If you're a fan of Disney's Tangled, then definitely pick up a copy of Tangled Up In You. The FMC, Ren, lived a fairly sheltered life on her parents' homestead in rural Idaho, and at the age of 22, she decided to enroll herself in college in Spokane. Her parents obviously weren't thrilled with the news, and set out an entire list of absurd rules for her to follow while she was at school, and insisted they be able to pick her up every Friday to bring her home. While at school, everything is a first for her. She's never used any modern technology, and yet she can fix just about anything with random things laying around, and she's kind and gracious to everyone she meets. An assignment from one of her classes basically tilts her entire world on its axis, and she takes off on a cross country road trip with Fitz, one of her classmates, who she basically has to blackmail to take her with him. Their adventures are lovely, and Ren's personality is just so endearing. The way her relationship with Fitz blossoms more and more the farther across the country they go is just so sweet to watch develop. The ending may be a bit surprising for those who aren't familiar with the original Tangled, but this tale as a whole was a nice, modern take on Disney's story.
This book is SO different from Christina Lauren's "usual" type. After I finished the book I realized it was part of the Disney Meant to Be series so of course it was a little more PG :) Cute but very far fetched story!
Thanks to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue I received a free electronic copy of the book to read and provide a review. Publication date: 6/25/2024
I’m not a Disney adult, I haven’t read the other Meant to Be books and I know nothing about Tangled - but if Christina Lauren write a grocery list I’m going to read it!
This was a sweet and simple story. It had all the best parts of Christina Lauren’s writing with an adorable and twisty-turny Disney-esque storyline following Ren and Fitz. The dual POV and dynamics of the two main characters on the road trip was my favorite part.
3.5 stars rounded up!
Ren Gylden lived a very sheltered life. She and her parents lived off the grid and she had been home schooled. At twenty-two, Ren talked her parents into letting her go to a college nearby. She was shocked and very excited when they cautiously agreed. A whole new world opened up for her. It brought a surprise she never saw coming.
This Tangled remake was very enjoyable. I loved Ren and her wish to expand her experiences. She seemed to make friends wherever she went on campus. Initially, Fitz did not feel as friendly toward Ren because he saw her as competition in his quest to be the top student in all of his classes. While on a road trip to Nashville, Ren and Fitz started to see each other in a different light. Each was a mystery to the other, but over time, they started to understand more about the other's motivations. It was fun to watch each one slowly come to the realization that this might be my person. The ending was perfect and tied any loose ends neatly into a bow. I was smiling at the end.
I received an e-ARC for Tangled Up in You and want to thank Christina Lauren, Hyperion Avenue, and NetGalley for the opportunity to voluntarily read and give an honest review of this book. Tangled Up in You will be published on June 25, 2024.
