A modern retelling of Tangled. It wasn’t anywhere near as entertaining as the Disney movie, but it was still really cute and heartwarming.
Review will be posted to Goodsreads close to publication. Thank you!
I was so excited for this book. Not only do I love Christina Lauren, but I have a pretty weird crush on the cartoon Flynn Rider (Iikyk) and it did start out pretty strong. I liked the characters a lot. Ren in particular reminded me of a grown-up Stargirl. (Again, if you know, you know.) However, about 2/3 through the book, the tone of the story completely changed. Sometimes this can be ok for me, but in this case it seemed out of nowhere. And while I respect the commitment to the original tale, I feel like there was a way to handle the plot line without such a departure in tone- there had to be a way to make it a bit lighter than it was. And I feel like because of the sharp turn in the story, the romance part fell to the wayside, which is of course what I was looking for. That being said, I love Christina Lauren and I feel like the quality of the writing made up for a lot of issues I had with the plot… I just wish I had been better prepared for the change in tone. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-arc.
Christina Lauren's Tangled Up In You is her retelling of Disney's Tangled and I enjoyed every word of this book.
Ren has grown up off the grid and has very (very) limited experience in the outside world and anything in it - she is getting her chance to finally live her life when she is allowed to go to college and there meets Fitz. Fitz isn't the guy everyone thinks he is - he's ready to leave college and his criminal record wiped clean, but a class with Ren and an assignment changes the course of both of their lives.
Ren finds out that the man she thought was her father isn't, and she and Fitz take off on a road trip that will change everything.
It's been years and years since I watched Tangled, so I didn't remember as much as I should have, but I really enjoyed how Ms. Lauren made Ren's innocence of the world refreshing and not foolishly naive'. She and Fitz have great chemistry and it was a joy reading Ren discover things in the "real" world and fall in love.
This was my first book by the author, but it will definitely not be the last.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thanks to @netgalley and @hyperionavebooks for an ARC @christinalauren’s new book in exchange for an honest review. I always enjoy @christinalauren’s romance novels, with a healthy dose of comedy. This one had some unexpected twists. At first, I wondered if the events in the middle were dragging on a bit, but then everything came together. I did anticipate one of the big twists, but was still in for a few surprises. I wonder if the end needs needs to be flushed out a bit. It seemed a bit abrupt. Still a very enjoyable ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read in my books. Check this book out when it’s released in June.,#avivaandfriendsrecos
Cute Tangled retelling but I just couldn’t get into the immaturity of Ren. Obviously that has to do with her being raised secluded but I just found it meh. Usually love Christina Lauren books too!
I finished this modern day Tangled retelling in one day! I fell in love with Ren and Fitz, their banter, and even Max, the car. I appreciated how authors Christina Lauren highlighted the ambivalence Ren experienced as the ending played out.
Nobody is going to be more upset than me writing this review! I L O V E Christina Lauren, OK. But this book just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t understand the Rapunzel inspiration at all. The only piece I saw was the use of the name Pascal. The “meat” of the book was definitely confusing and I feel like I somehow didn’t get the point of it!? Nevertheless, I love Christina Lauren’s writing and I will continue to autobuy every book they publish.
I really enjoyed this version of Tangled, with a lot of fun twists from the authors that puts their special spin on things. We get to follow Ren, who grew up on a homestead and is finally in the modern world as she heads off to college, and Fitz, a past criminal who has a plan to portray himself as someone he isn't. These two cross paths and wind up on a road trip, where they get to re-assess their plans and dreams. I laughed a lot with this one, and loved the chemistry between the two leads - another great win from this writing duo!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was super cute and a wonderful rendition of a modern day Rapunzel! I love Christina Laurens writing style and they have become a very instant buy for me. The words flow so well and the stories always give a few chuckles here and there and that is definitely something that i look for in books. It's the perfect addition to the Meant To Be series and will highly recommend to SO many people! awesome job
Such a wonderful, modern romance take on Tangled/Repunzel - it was just enough of the old story mixed modern elements to keep me engaged and intrigued. It incorporated a few of my favorite tropes: grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, only one bed and more. I enjoyed the slow burn of the romance. I eagerly anticipated what was going to happen next with both the romance and evil elements. Well done! Thank you to #NetGalley and Publisher Hyperion Avenue for the chance to read this excellent ARC.
Ren has lived her entire life on a homestead with her overprotective parents. She’s finally allowed to go to college during the week, and it’s there that she meets Fitz and discovers that everything she’s been told might be a lie. She and Fitz take a road trip to find answers.
This is the first book in this series that I’ve read, and when I saw that the Christina Lauren duo were writing it, I couldn’t wait to check it out. It didn’t disappoint! Their signature wit and banter combined with the sweet Disney’s Tangled retelling makes it an entertaining and enjoyable rom com. I love fairy tale retellings and this one was very cute and kept me wanting to read and turn the pages. I’d recommend to fans of sweet closed door romcoms, fairy tales retellings, and Disney lovers!
Thank you to Christina Lauren, Hyperion Ave, and Netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
I liked it a lot. I thought there was the right amount of tension, but at times, but not always, Fitz’s backstory felt like not much more than a plot device. It was a nice twist on Tangled!
Ren Glyden, the FMC in Tangled Up in You, comes across as the typical storybook princess. She even has the very, very long blonde hair. Raised on an Idaho homestead in near isolation she is still light, bright, intellectually brilliant and in love with life. Her strict parents come across as emotionally abusive even if she claims they are not, but in her circumstances she has nothing to compare here. Despite keeping her on the homestead for all of her 22 years they allow her to go to college away from home without much explanation why. In her narrative she often thinks of how her father has so often rejected all of her ideas for innovation and improvement on the farm. So what's to be gained from her college education?
She meets Fitz on her first day because he's been assigned to give her the campus tour. He's got a reputation as a player and one who puts his own self-interests above all. He admits as much because he's got an agenda ahead of him. Ren ignores all the warnings, including his, to befriend him and everybody else she meets. She becomes a campus wonder girl in a matter of weeks. Despite promises she'd made to her parents she breaks every rule they set for this new adventure and in one case makes a disturbing discovery about her life that she never could have imagined. Her need to find out the truth behind this discovery that may upend everything she believes sends her on a road trip with none other than Fitz. He has a mission too and as they travel together from Spokane to Atlanta they discover they have more in common than either one could have imagined.
Tangled Up in You is a well-written and entertaining romantic mystery that could appeal to teens as well as adults. I really don't care for the FMC who is fluffy and all bright light, beautiful and brilliant. A few flaws, etc. can go a long way toward a more realistic human being, but all the flaws seemed to belong to Fitz.
This is a cute retelling of the Disney movie. An enjoyable reiteration but was made predictable by the fact that it follows the movie so closely.
I haven’t read the others in the series so I am not sure if they are all Disney retelling or if they incorporate some of the original stories.

This was so cute and I ate it up! Literally. I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved how Christina Lauren incorporated so many elements from the original Tangled into this, and I was beaming at my screen throughout.
The end felt rushed, but I’ll chalk it up to I was having a good time and was not ready for it to end.
Thank you NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC.
This book was really good. It was heart warming, romantic, and funny. It had some suspense in it. The ending was really good. I liked how strong Ren was after everything she went through. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.
One of my favorite movies is Tangled, so learning that two of my favorite authors are creating a modern version of it makes me very happy! I believe they did a fantastic job writing this book. It was a really quick and enjoyable read that won my heart. If you enjoy Tangled, this book is perfect for you! highly recommend
thank you so much to netgalley and hyperion avenue for giving me this arc!
Ate this up. we love a Disney re-telling. Loved the forced proximity, road trip and fun characters. Who could say no to a tangled rom-com?
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I love Tangled and I love Christina Lauren, so I was so excited to get this ARC! It was a cute and fast read with a dark aspect to it. In the movie Tangled, a lot of its plot was based off of magic, so it was interesting to see how the magical aspects of the plot were taken and applied to reality in this book. I'm usually annoyed by really naive and "innocent" characters in books (and damsel in distress types), but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Ren. Sure she was naive but she also had a lot of resilience in the face of hardships and she was intelligent. I enjoyed seeing the balance between book smart (Ren) and street smart (Fitz) and seeing how they each made the other better.
I. WANT. MORE. To say that this is one of the cutest stories that I've read this year might be an understatement.
Also, a re-telling of Disney's tangled? SIGN ME UP, YESTERDAY!
This is certainly not my first Christina Lauren story, but as always, she sucked me right in with this story!
Ren was such a sweet, lovable FMC. She wasn't exactly relatable, but that was also the whole point of the story. Even her background was so incredibly bizarre, it had to have been fictitious!
Edward (Fitz), our MMC, now he's certainly the more relatable character. I won't even lie, Flynn/Eugene, is probably my favorite Disney "prince" ever. So, it goes without saying that seeing their similarities made me love Edward even more!
"Before I do this, I want you to know that I'm in love with you."
If you've seen "Tangled", you know not to love the FMC's mother. But, even without that context, Gloria and Steve were so incredibly unlikable!
4 ⭐️ because while the story was so sweet and well-written, it ended sort of abruptly, and I would've loved to see more of Ren fully trusting Edward and starting to build a life with him.
