Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren is a sweet Tangled retelling. If you're into Disney princesses, but are a little more grown up, this is your book!
I loved this modern retelling of Rapunzel/Tangled. I felt like the concept for this retelling was very creative.
Although this is technically part of a series (I have read none previous) I was still able to enjoy this read on its own and never felt like I was missing something.
It was a short and cute rom-com read but overall didn't stand out too much in the grand scheme of rom-coms.
It did do a good job of giving Tangled vibes as well as Ella Enchanted vibes.
I always loved a christina lauren book. writing is always wonderful! this one is not an exception to that.
a disney remake of tangled? sign me up. you do not give me another reason to read. I love love that movie.
I love the prospect of this novel. Ren has been living at home with her parents & hasn’t ever attended regular schooling with other students, now the time comes where she has the opportunity to go to college. exciting. enter, Fitz. our prince charming. & Max, his mustang ;) truly a great retelling, while making it modern, that aspect of this story makes it much more relatable. definitely more YA vibes for those who wanted / like a little more spice wi the their plot.
the plot & direction of the story was so intriguing for me. I loved the road trip & finding answers to shocking news. while it was slow at points, it still was well paced & well rounded for this novel. the plot really does follow a retelling of tangled in the best ways of the movie & novel, but the novel was definitely modernized & enjoyable for todays readers.
I love a good retelling and this one was so fun! A nice quick and easy read. Christina Lauren are auto buy authors for me for sure!
Thank you everyone for this early gifted copy of Tangled Up in You!
If you’re looking for a sweet, subtle romance, this books is for you. If you’re looking for a well done modern retelling of Tangled, this book is for you.
I felt like they did a great job with Ren’s character, making her unaware of so much without her looking dumb.
When lifelong homeschooled student Ren finally leaves the off-the-grid farm she calls home for college a few years late, she's in for a wake up call. She's never held an iPhone, used the internet, or gone on a date. Ren may not be street smart, but she is book smart--acing all of her classes, whether it be Mandarin or immunology, and getting under the skin of campus golden boy, Fitz. Whether he's enchanted by her smarts or beauty--how could you not be obsessed with that long, blonde hair?--it's unclear. When unexpected news causes Ren to need a ride across the country, she blackmails Fitz into driving her. The cross-country roadtrip, and only one bed, brings the two reluctant frenemies closer together until sparks are flying.
I loved this book so much--it's definitely the best (so far) of Disney's Meant to Be series. It's a bit tamer than Christina Lauren's work, even their more recent stuff, but so as to be expected for a Disney-Hyperion publication. It still brings the sparks, even if not the flames, and Fitz and Ren are made for each other. Even knowing the story of Rapunzel and Tangled, I was still somehow surprised at some of the twists and turns, and the ending left me amped. This book is perfect for fairytale lovers, Christina Lauren fans, or those just looking for a fun romcom.
Thanks to Disney for my eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 stars - 10/10
I am usually a huge fan of Christina Lauren. Love and Other Words, Something Wilder, and In a Holidaze are some of my favorite books. Tangled Up in You felt different to me, much more YA. I've not read any of the other Meant to Be novels or seen Tangled, so I didn't really have any preconceptions of the novel. I thought it was cute, if somewhat unbelievable. While it's an interesting concept to have Ren be a completely sheltered college student, I just didn't connect with the story line. For Disney fans, I think you will love this book. I just wanted a little more surprise, and a little less YA.
Thank you to Hyperion Avenue and NetGalley for granting me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. All reviews are my own thoughts and opinions.
This was such a cute read and fun reimagining of a modern Tangled. There were plenty of references to the film which I adored. The take on The Snuggly Duckling was one of my favorites. Ren aka “Rapunzel” was a little ray of sunshine. I loved her view on life and getting to experience things for the first time. It very much embodies Rapunzel when she first steps out of the tower in the film. That moment she touches grass for the first time, and steps in the stream. That utter awe she experiences at that scene. That’s the vibe throughout the entire book. Fitz has a troubled past and a plot for revenge. His character growth throughout the entire book was very touching. The authors did a wonderful job painting the scenes with their words and fully immersing you into the story. You will laugh, tear up, giggle, and feel all the emotions while reading. Especially at how Ren has been kept hidden from the modern world. It’ll really make you feel heartbroken at the things she’s missed.
I had a few downsides this book. Even though I will be rating it 5 stars. I thought the reveal happened too quick. I feel like you’re immediately introduced to these characters and then the plot twist immediately follows. We all know the plot of Rapunzel so it’s nothing new. However, I would have liked to see a little more before that reveal. Same goes for the ending it felt very abrupt. One minute everything was clicking and I swear the next minute it the story was over. I felt like the ending could have had more. It felt very much rushed. All in all I would recommend to any Tangled fans. I think uncovering all the references was my favorite.
Ren grew up in an unusual situation- off the grid with parents who trusted no one. Why? She is home schooled, mostly self-taught. She pleads with her parents to college, even though she is 24 years old, and secures a scholarship. Fitz is a star student trying to escape his past. Even though Ren is very focused on her studies, an assignment in her immunology class changes the course of her life. She and Fitz take a trip to visit significant others in their lives and this trip changes the course of their futures. Wow! The secrets that are uncovered!
Tangled is my favorite Disney movie, so I was so excited to see my favorite authors would be writing a Tangled inspired adult story! I really enjoyed this one and it didnt disappoint. I couldn't put it down and loved it!
Read if you like: romantic dramas/forced proximity

Ren has never gone to school or left her homestead, but she convinces her parents to finally let her go to college. There, she is exposed to a lot of the world that she didn't realize she was missing. She also meets Fitz, who is working hard to chase away some past demons. An unlikely situation pairs the two together on a road trip where they learn about not only each other, but themselves as well.

I was a little unsure about this one at the beginning, but I ended up loving it. It was messy and dramatic, and I don't think I was expecting the thriller turn near the end, but I was sucked into it and couldn't stop reading. I really loved Fitz and thought he was cute and kind.

Overall, an engaging book and I am glad I read it!
I'm a fan of Christina Lauren's and I LOVE the Disney film "Tangled" so I knew I just had to read this book. For fans of Christina Lauren who are used to their level of steam, this one is pretty PG. I'm assuming because of the Disney connection, but it is an NA (new adult) book, so there's some swearing, but that's about it. So if you have teens, but are worried it might be too spicy, fear not.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I think fans of the movie "Tangled" will love this book. There were many throwbacks to it, which I enjoyed. You'll definitely recognize the similarities while also enjoying it as its own thing. You do not have to have seen the movie to enjoy it.
Thank you to Hyperion Avenue and NetGalley. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
4.25 Stars
I love Tangled and this was a cute little spin on the classic. Ren is getting her first taste of freedom (sort of) by being away at college. She is a little older of a college student and enter Fitz. He is someone who can charm the pants off your granny, but although Ren thinks he is cute, she doesn't really even know what to do with all his swagger.
I really felt like I related to Ren, while I wasn't sheltered as much as she was, I felt like I didn't know anything when I got to college. Their slow romance was what I was there for!
Thanks to Hyperion, Netgalley and Christina Lauren for an early copy.
Christina Lauren have added their own twist to Rapunzel in this cute contemporary romance retelling. She is young, sheltered, and ready to experience the world, and he is a man with a plan! I love road trip romances, so this was right up my ally and was a sweet and funny romance. While I prefer this co-author's spicier romance books, I still enjoyed this one and think it is a such a fun series!
She has a dream. He has a plan. Then they go on a road trip and all at once everything is different.
This is a delightful contemporary retelling of Rapunzel (specifically the Disney Tangled version). It features Ren, a 22-year-old freshmen who’s spent her life on an off-the-grid homestead and Fitz, the college golden boy with a lot to hide.
This was a fun read! It was interesting to see a modern character who’s completely out of touch with the modern world. Ren and Fitz were sweet together. I liked all the little Tangled easter eggs sprinkled across the story.

Summary:
When two unexpected and opposite pasts collide into one.
Ren grew up on a farm, in the middle of nowhere, secluded by all outside influences. Her parents didn’t believe the world was good for her, so they raised Ren on a self-sufficient homestead. Ren was raised without all the modern conveniences, and received a scholarship for her academics to attend college. It takes some major convincing on Ren’s part, but she finds herself at college, tangled up in her identity, and headed on a road trip with a somewhat stranger.
Based on popular gossip around campus, Fitz is the direct opposite of Ren. His life is mapped out for himself, and he needs to stay at the top of the class, why is Ren threatening his plan?
Review:
The talented Christina Lauren has blended the age of innocence, with courage, adventure and humor. Fritz and Ren, who barely know each other, set off on a long distance road trip seeking answers to questions regarding Ren’s identity. The characters are filled with depth and emotion in this plot driven novel even with a little bit of unexpected suspense. This is by far my favorite Christina Lauren book, as I always skip the explicit content scenes. This novel is geared more to the young adult crowd, and is a clean romance.
Tangled Up In You is book 4 in the Meant to Be series, however, it can also be a standalone novel. This is the first book I've read in this series, but now I plan to read the entire series! If you love the movie Tangled, you will enjoy Christina Lauren’s retelling in Tangled Up In You!

While this wasn't my favorite Christina Lauren book, I found it a quick and cute read. It was a little bit cheesier then I had hoped for but was a fun retelling of Repunzel/Tangled
Hello Book friends!
Today I’m reviewing Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren. In this Rapunzel contemporary romance retelling, we follow twenty-three year old Ren, our modern day Rapunzel. She’s been homeschooled, living on a farm in the middle of nowhere, living off the grid. Having convinced her parents she’d love to attend college, Ren obtains a scholarship and a chance to experience the world outside of her sheltered life.
This book will warm your heart and give you all the happy feels that come with an adorably reimagined romcom.
Christina Lauren took the popular Disney movie Tangled and created a modern retelling that will sweep readers into an intoxicatingly warm embrace. The kind you fall into. Knowing it’ll be the best kind of hug that’ll last the entire 320 pages. Both characters are a delight and their journey of self-discovery and their unintentional road trip to happiness makes this a perfect homage to the film it’s based on.
With Opposites attract, a modern day fairy tale retelling, a surprise DNA test, kissing lessons, forced proximity with the one bed trope, romance readers get ready to find your next must read.
Tangled Up In You is out now!
I am a certified Disney adult and I have loved following along with this series as new books come out. Ren and Fitz are a modern day retelling of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider and they fit the bill perfectly. Even down to the fact that Fitz name isn’t really Fitz. Ren is a sheltered girl who grew up on a farm without access to a lot of modern day technology. She’s never used a phone and she doesn’t have internet access. She is granted a full ride scholarship to Corona College and her parents very reluctantly let her go. While away at college she has a long list of rules set by her parents that she has to follow, but as time goes on she gets lax with following them. A DNA test for one of her classes yields surprising results and leads her on a road trip with the “womanizer” known as Fitz. She is the sunshine to his very grumpy personality and they clash almost every step of the way. As the road trip nears the end, Fitz shares secrets and opens up in a way Ren didn’t think was possible. Expect A LOT of twists and turns and a very sketchy biker bar visit.
This book definitely gives the cutesie Disney vibes. I think Christina Lauren did a fantastic job incorporating themes and elements from the Disney Rapunzel story into this one.
