This Arc is one of the most information filled i have read so far when it comes to Gardening. I am an avid home gardener so learning how to better help my community with gardening is very helpful no matter the space available. Well written and well done.

Maybe you’re looking to start or join a community garden (legal considerations included). Or maybe you’re just looking to make your own backyard a little more space-effective (community gardens always have space constraints). This book is AMAZING. I had my doubts about this one, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the amount of thought and detail that clearly went into this book.

Some book descriptions can be a little click-bait-y but this book’s official description is legit. Raskin really does talk about the advantages and disadvantages of certain kinds of community gardening spaces. He covers renting individual plots, shared plots, community orchards, animals included, Community-Supported-Agriculture (CSA), roof gardens. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on temp gardening on rented land (yours truly can relate).

Unlike a lot of gardening books, pictures in this book aren’t as important as the information itself. This book generally features photos of smiling people and (mostly) kids digging in the dirt. Fun and Insta-worthy, but doesn’t tell me anything. The information in this book, however, is GOLD.

Why I Chose This New Gardening Book:
I’ve always been curious about the community garden spaces that I see when driving or walking the streets of urban areas. Who takes care of them? How does an interested person get involved? This new gardening book looked like it was going to have all the answers for me. I also had the opportunity to get an ARC so I could review it prior to publication, but it will be available for you just a few days after I post this review, so I urge you to take a look if you’re as curious about the process as I was.

I love that this book gave some many different suggestions for growing whether you have a larger community space or limited area, rural or urban. The pictures are beautiful and make this book not not very informative but also a good coffee table book in my perspective. This book leaves no detail out from how to grow, how to run a meeting, build a team and legal information.

Thank you, Leaping Hare Press, for the advance reading copy.

The book is such an eye opener for the younger generation specifically considering how fast paced and challenging with the advanced technology running with various screen related activities/social media that most of us consider interactions/visual arts to be the best ways to be. Most times we seem to forget that our efforts and interactions in the physical real world matters more to thrive and be actually sociable.

This guidebook is such a powerful tool to encourage every one of any age group to be more involved with their community and be more engaged to plant gardens l/grow trees together.

I find the book really helpful with all the tips and glossary provided. I really appreciate the real colourful pictures of people engaging with the gardening activities.

Very comprehensive. Much more so than I anticipated. Love the concept of community gardens and learning more about how they benefit all and how to implement them! Loved this and am happy to support anything that supports community building!
