I would highly recommend to family and friends. I love author’s that can describe a scene and you are immediately there, you close your eyes and you picture the scene. This author does that for me.

I love this book and can’t wait for the next one! And I love the tie in with the Margarete Series! I hate having to put a Marion Kummerow down to do other things!

Whew! Now that I have finished the book, maybe my blood pressure will go back down. This third book in the German Wives series picks right up where the last one ended, with Julius & Edith on the train to Switzerland in October 1941 trying to leave Nazi Germany. I figured they wouldn't succeed but it was still heartbreaking. From then on it is one setback after another for the Jews of Berlin, as the restrictions on them become more and more cruel. Just imagine not being allowed to wear coats in the German winter and having to have your beloved pets put down. As before, Edith and Helga are incredibly strong and willing to do anything to protect their families. In the returning characters, Edith's brother Joseph has truly become a monster while her brother Knut shows real strength of character. An interesting new character is introduced, a young Romani woman, Roxana, who is a love interest for David.

This third book is set in one of the cruelest periods for the Jews in Germany, when they were no longer allowed to emigrate and the concentration camps were well-established. This is a soul-shattering story. The dehumanizing laws for the Jews and their consequences are heartbreaking and terrifying. This story ends in 1943 so get ready for the final book. I'll need a couple of months to recover but I'm looking forward to it!
