Another great book in the detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. It came out on the 30th of January and I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley.

After having experienced some traumatic events Josie heads to a specialist trauma retreat, set in the isolated mountains of Pennsylvania. The other patients there all seem to be hiding dark secrets.
One morning, one of the patients, Meg, disappears. Sometime later her body is found in the snow. Being completely isolated Josie has to think carefully and act carefully to find out what's happening. When another patient goes missing and the food supply runs low, the danger becomes more real. Will she be able to save the rest of the patients and herself?

This was another riveting and exciting read that I finished in no time. The characters come to life from page one and the story itself grabs you immediately and you're drawn into it and you just can't stop reading. A bit of a different story in the Josie Quinn series but this one is at least as exciting as the other stories. Exciting, fast-paced, thrilling - all words that don't describe this novel well enough. The most definite recommendation again!

5/5 ⭐

Josie Quinn is back. This time she's stuck on a mountain retreat and in true Josie Quinn fashion, bodies keep piling up. With no resources available, Josie has to use her detective skills to find the killer before time runs out. This is another gripping story from Lisa Regan. Detective Josie Quinn is always a must-read!

Face Her Fear is Lisa Regan’s 19th book in her Detective Josie Quinn Series. This is another great addition to one of the best series on the shelves today! The other books in this series are police procedural type books but Ms. Regan puts a different twist on this one and makes it more of a locked room mystery. She will keep you on your toes from start to finish and she makes it very hard to put it down. The characters, new and old are well developed and intriguing. The twist and turns are surprising and will keep you up very late at night. I highly recommend this one and all the others in this series.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for this thrilling book to read and review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

I don’t read many ‘locked room’ mysteries, but this one definitely gripped me from the very beginning. It was hard to not like most of these characters, which I’ve found unusual in thrillers that I’ve read so far. I spent a lot of the book going back and forth between a couple of scenarios trying to figure out who the killer was; which always makes for a book I can’t put down.
I haven’t read any of the others books in this series, but I’m definitely going to be picking them up.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of this book.

Wow! What a thrilling ride that was!

Lisa Regan never disappoints, and this well written compelling read had me reading well past my bed time. It is well paced, with a cast of well drawn characters and a plot that will keep you guessing.

I am already looking forward to book number 20.

Easy 5 star rating from me.

***This is book number 19 in the Detective Josie Quinn series and although it can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the previous books for the back story.

Lisa Regan surprises and delights me yet again and continues to defy expectations, leaving me in awe once more. In a departure from her well-known "missing or murdered girl" trope, she delivers a thrilling locked-room mystery, showcasing her versatility as a storyteller, earning her the title of a word witch.

Through the 18 books, Detective Josie Quinn has experienced plenty of loss and Josie is taking some time to address the losses in her life as well as her childhood trauma. Josie's home town Denton and the area have become quite a dangerous place and it's nice to see a fresh setting. The refreshing shift takes us out of Denton in focus and takes Josie to a hunting Lodge in the mountains used as a trauma retreat. However, once again, a dead body finds Josie, presenting her with another mystery to solve. This time, it's not just about the dynamics between the characters that I love so much. Josie is on her own with a few suspects and must navigate the investigation without Noah and her team by her side.

Joined by a cast of characters, each harboring their haunting scars, the retreat transforms into a gripping crime scene, where secrets are revealed and intensifying the suspense. Lisa Regan intricately weaves together elements of suspense, psychological depth, and atmospheric tension, focusing on the intricate dynamics of the characters, the unexpected twists and turns, and the enthralling journey of unraveling the truth and motives behind their presence at the retreat. The isolated and eerie setting of the retreat added layers of complexity to the unfolding drama. With each startling revelation, the strands of this captivating tale intertwine, holding me spellbound until the climactic and riveting conclusion.

Only Josie could go on a retreat for Trauma and come away more traumatised than When she went in.

I've been a follower of this series since book 13 and I've yet to be disappointed by the offerings.

Josie is a really likeable character she's human warts an all and showing her struggles and challenges just makes you like her a whole lot more.

Book 19 is engaging, intense, fast paced full of drama, suspense and tension everything you could possibly want from a crime thriller!

This book is quite a departure from the usual Josie Quinn stories in that her fellow cops only feature peripherally. Josie is on a retreat that is supposed to help her cope with her PTSD. Unfortunately it is taking place at an isolated campground at the top of a mountain. Josie really doesn't want to be here and that is before they are snowed in during a blizzard. Some of her fellow attendees are a bit odd to say the least and that is before one of them is murdered.
There was a chance that this book could have become a bad version of the stereotypical slasher movie, a kind of "I Know Your Secret 27" but Lisa Regan is too experienced an author to fall into that trap. She knows ust when to draw out the tension so that the reader is jumping at shadows. The fact that no one, except Josie, was telling the truth about their reasons for being there meant that no one could be trusted which left Josie alone to figure out what is going on and who murdered a traumatised young woman. With loads of tension this is one of the best books in the Josie Quinn series. I eagerly await the next one.

FIRST-RATE thriller with lots of suspense & great characterization with Josie caught up in a different phycological dilemma than usual. Super addition to this great series. RECOMMEND highly. Thanks to #NetGalley#Bookouture for #Face her fear in return for my honest review.

Lisa Regan and Detective Josie Quinn are always at the top of any TBR pile. I loved the basis of this one being Josie going to a retreat to help her with the grief of losing a friend and colleague. It’s shows the character to be human. Of course it doesn’t go to plan when someone on the retreat disappears and they’re cut off from the rest of the world.
Can Josie keep everyone alive and find a killer. One text to her colleague is received and they start to investigate. A fabulous read and can’t wait for book twenty!

The Detective Josie Quinn series continues with Face Her Fear, book 19, which was yet another compelling and exciting read. I came into the series late, so I haven't read all the books. Still, I have liked the ones I have read so far, and Face Her Fear is now among them. The intriguing storyline and enigmatic characters of this atmospheric story kept me completely engrossed.

Despite childhood trauma and the loss of loved ones, Josie's strength never wavered. However, the recent death of a teammate and the receipt of some devastating news prompted Josie to take a week off work to attend a retreat. The retreat, which is being held in the remote Pennsylvania mountains, is designed for people suffering from PTSD. Only seven people attended the retreat, including Josie. Everything appeared to be going well until one of the participants died. To make matters worse, they were all trapped on the mountain due to a violent snowstorm.

Given that the incident occurred outside of her jurisdiction, Josie had to ensure that the proper protocols were followed for securing the scene and keeping the body safe while attempting to identify the killer. A task that proved difficult due to limited resources and adverse conditions. With only six people alive, the suspect pool was relatively small. Second, it was clear that each individual had secrets, rendering them untrustworthy. The secrets became clearer to me as I progressed through the story. However, determining the killer's identity had me stumped.

The plot for this instalment took a different turn than in previous books, and the pace took some time to pick up. However, the pacing increased after the discovery of the murder victim. The story kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out how it would end. Tensions rose throughout the story. The storm, dwindling supplies, a spotty phone signal, and a massive black bear all exacerbated the situation. Another participant went missing, complicating the situation even further.

Reagan delivered a compelling tale that fans of crime fiction would enjoy.

Honestly there isn't much i can say that isn't evidenced by the fact i'm still reading and rating this series highly even at book 19. Love Josie Quinn and the team!

Face Her Fear by Lisa Regan
Josie Quinn #19

Intense and intricately plotted closed “room” type murder mystery set on a mountainside in blizzard conditions. Not the usual police procedural but a great addition to the series!

What I liked:
* Josie: homicide detective, married, had a difficult childhood discussed in previous books and briefly touched on in this book, happily married to Noah, competent, professional, good at her job, someone I would like to have as a friend
* Noah: police lieutenant working with Josie and also her husband, loving, kind, supportive, bright, protective, patient, perfect for Josie
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The idea of a retreat to help Josie deal with her insomnia, PTSD, and past traumas
* Wondering who the killer was and all the potential characters it could be
* The way the clues were slowly eked out
* The set-up at the beginning and how it was central to what happened on the mountain
* The reason Josie was angry when she left for the retreat and the way she and Noah managed to eventually talk it through – loved the potential at the end of the book
* Meeting Detective Kyle Tuner, the man who has been hired to take deceased Finn Mettner’s position on the team – looking forward to getting to know him better
* Wonder what case will be next and what will happen to the team going forward
* All of it except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about nature versus nurture and what makes someone truly evil

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series/by this author? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review

Book 19 in the Detective Josie Quinn Series. As always it could be read as a stand alone but much better to read previous issues to follow the background to the characters. It is December and Josie is at Sacred New Beginnings Retreat, Sullivan County attending a week long retreat for processing trauma. The building is on a mountain top and secluded, apart from a hungry black bear, and there is little if any mobile phone reception. Josie is accompanied by 5 other attendees as well as Sandrine who is running the course. A well written locked room mystery; the weather means no one is coming in and no one can get out!

Briefly, with heavy snow falling one of the attendees is found dead and Jodie is certain she has been murdered. As the camp is completely cut off she has to use her wits to try and keep everyone else safe whilst trying to discover the murderer, but with no legal authority. Meanwhile Josie’s husband Noah is desperately trying to reach the site but is having his own issues with a stalker.

A dark psychological thriller as Josie has to find a killer whilst dealing with her own PTSD following her recent trauma. This is less of a police procedural than previous books and is quite heavily focussed on Josie and her life, loves and anguishes. A good entertaining read.

I think this is an excellent psychological thriller, claustrophobic and dark. It’s a travel into the mind of Josie and how she’s facing her traumas and PTSD.
She’s alone, trying to find a way to move on and restore her mental health.
A small circle of person who are staying at a specialist trauma retreat in an isolated place.
What Could Possibly Go Wrong? Everything.
One of the persons disappear, the place is not reachable, Josie is alone and there’s killer in a small group.
I’m not a huge fan of psychological thriller but Lisa Reagan worked her magic and kept me turning pages and made me feel the stress and fear of Josie.
There’s a lot of surprising twist, it’s fast paced and the solution was satisfying and surprising.
I love it and it’s one of those books-that-caused-sleep-deprivation
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Bookouture for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I adore this series and somehow book 19 is still as incredible as the first. I’m not normally a locked room thriller kind of gal but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The setting was creepy and added some extra tension. I had no idea who could be trusted or what the motive was and the reveal was perfect. Seeing Josie question herself so much was heartbreaking and I just wanted to give her and Noah a big hug.

This can be read as a standalone but I do recommend reading them all for background on Josie & Noah and because it’s such a great series.

Loved this one! Fresh take on this series with a little deeper dive into all that Josie deals with. A true page turner that delivers on suspense, throws out twists with main characters you love and secondary characters who are adept at pulling you in and an ending you don't see coming. In a remote secluded area, storm on the way and people are dying. You can take the cop out of her home town, but you cannot take the cop out of her. Grab a blanket, hot chocolate or coffee (its cold) and treat yourself with Face Her Fear. Even though this is book 19 it can
be read as a stand alone. Trust me though you want to go back and read the rest. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts an opinions. #FaceHerFear #DetectiveJosieQuinn #LisaRegan #Bookouture #NetGalley.

If you read Josie Quinn before this book is a little different. Josie is at a mountain retreat when a bad storm hits and a body is found. Due to the storm Josie and the others at the retreat can’t get help making this a locked room thriller. I’m a huge fan of Josie Quinn because she is smart, tough, and overall a great person. I got to see more of Josie in this book with the trama in her past and watch her work mostly without her teams support. I loved this highlight into Josie and can’t wait to read more of her story! If you love police procedurals or locked room mystery’s, this is a book to read!

Oh my. This book! By now you know I love police procedurals and adore this series. This is book 19 and you would think things might be getting a little stale and ordinary, but this book! I love Noah and I love the team, but this book centered mostly around Josie, her demons and the struggles she’s faced. It’s terrific! What a great twist to spice things up.

Josie is still struggling with Mettner’s death and what happened at end of the last book. Her and Noah are having a moment, so she goes to a retreat to work on herself and her PTSD. And of course things aren’t smooth. Now this is very Josie centric, but Noah plays a small part and Josie texts with Gretchen to get some details on the people at the retreat with her, so I got a little about the team. That being one of the things I usually love about the series. How they work so well together. But this one is a deep dive into where Josie is personally this far into the series. A little more about what makes her tick and what makes her question things. How she functions and learning to cope.

Of course there is a death and a storm that prevents the police from investigating, so Josie Quinn, detective, does come out and play a little. But so very much has happened in her life, the series and the last few books and this gives her a moment to work on herself. This is one of my favorites of the series (but I probably say that with all of them).

There is eventually a fast paced conclusion, but this one starts out a little slower than the other books because there is new cast of characters to meet. And when one of them is found murdered in a locked room sort of way (the storm), Josie tries to work out who in their group might be danger to the rest. She is not official but she does investigate. Some.

This was such a nice change and there are hints at what’s to come for the team and Josie and Noah. All the stars from me on this one.
