I have done all of the books in this series and not one has disappointed me! I love Josie and Noah. Their bond is amazing. I really felt for them and their heartbreaking news. The characters in this book were crazy! Normally I can figure out who did what and while I figured out about half way in who it was at the beginning of the book, I struggled on who the bad guy was later in the book. There were so many twists and turns! I was captivated and couldn't put the book down. Thank you NetGalley, Lisa Regan, and Bookouture for this ARC!

Loved this! This was a sit down and don’t get back up till you are finished kinda book, and I haven’t had one of those in awhile.
I enjoyed the change of pace in this book - Josie at an isolated retreat in the mountains, a blizzard, and a murder. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Can’t wait to see what book #20 brings.

Face Her Fear is Detective Josie Quinn book 19 and I've read them all. Lisa Regan never disappoints. I particularly enjoyed this book because it takes Josie away from her family and her team. Josie is finally trying to make inroads in her trauma treatment and is at a retreat high in the mountains. She's essentially sequestered with an eclectic bunch of people, all ostensibly there for treatment for past traumas. Naturally this wouldn't be a murder mystery without a murder so it's not long before a body has been found. A blizzard is closing in, tensions are high and there's a murderer amongst them, the perfect recipe for a taut mystery. I loved this latest installment. Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Face Her Fear, the nineteenth novel to feature Detective Josie Quinn of the Denton, Pennsylvania Police Department.

Still trying to come to terms with the death of her colleague, Mett, Josie gets some devastating, personal news and heads off to the Sacred New Beginnings Retreat in a remote part of the state to heal. All is not as it seems there with her five fellow trauma victims keeping secrets and a blizzard on the way. Then one of the attendees, Meg Cleary, disappears and is later found murdered. They are snowed in with a murderer and Josie has no jurisdiction to investigate nor a team to help.

I enjoyed Face Her Fear, which is an absorbing read with plenty of twists and turns and a resolution I didn’t see coming. It’s not Josie’s usual style of investigation and murder and I felt some kinship with her as a city girl roughing it. The vision of no heat, food or power is a hellscape to both of us and that’s before dealing with the cold and snow. Still, I think she manages admirably.

The attendees have traumatic back stories that come to play a role in the present situation, and it’s an interesting scenario of five people with serious PTSD, a psychologist and a dead body stuck in a situation they can’t exit. There is perhaps more character development than normal in the series as Josie has no other tools, but through it she manages to assemble enough information to uncover a killer and the motive, which I don’t think I would have foreseen at the outset, or to be honest, much of the way through the novel.

There’s snow and murder, both of which create an atmosphere of tension and as the novel progresses mistrust. Josie is more uncertain in this difficult terrain and the other characters can be awkward at a minimum and volatile at worst. There is plenty to keep the reader turning the pages, but this is more of a slow burner that builds momentum as it goes.

Face Her Fear is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Why do I love this series? Denton PD detective Josie Quinn is instantly likable -honest and loyal despite her traumatic childhood, smart and strong yet also vulnerable; the plots are interesting and original; and the books are well written. Face Her Fear finds Josie at a week-long retreat at an isolated, off-grid facility in the mountains of Pennsylvania's most rural county, joining 5 other individuals who suffer severe PTSD, one therapist, and the facility's caretaker. Several days into the retreat, an unexpected but severe winter storm engulfs the mountain, preventing the group from leaving. When one of their group is found dead in the snow, Josie realizes a killer is trapped on the mountain with them. Help is days away, and the few text messages Josie manages to exchange with her colleague Gretchen, back in Denton, reveal that several of the retreat attendees have lied about who they are and why they are there. An excellent 'locked room' style mystery that kept me guessing to the end!

Josie has finally heard her from her gynecologist. The report is not a good one. She needs to tell Noah that she cannot have children. When she does in a conversation before she leaves for a retreat that her counselor advises her to attend, they have an argument or what feels to Josie like Noah blames her somehow. She leaves and makes the long drive to the Sacred New Beginnings Retreat. She arrives at the base of the mountain, parks the car and waits for the rest of the members to arrive. It seems like an odd place for a counseling session. She thought it would be in a lodge that housed pleasant rooms, provided WIFI and nice meals. As they rode in the 4 wheel drive auto up the steep road it seemed odd. They reached a point where the driver told them to grab their bags and walk the remaining path to the main building. It was isolated, had no WIFI unless the wind blew in the right direction, and no transport to the bottom until the end of the week when the sessions were ended. Josie wanted nothing more than to talk to Noah but she could not even send him a message.
This beginning was creepy and unusual for a Josie Quinn novel but it pulled me in quickly. I could not put it down.
Face Your Fear will be published on January 30, 2024 by bookouture. I was able to read Lisa Regan’s latest novel via NetGalley. I enjoy the Josie Quinn Detective series and have read them all. I am always impressed with the methods Regan uses to lure the readers in. Face Her Fear is #19 in the series. This is one not to miss, it is truly exceptional!

fast read

This opens with a child (the author was very careful not to specify the child's gender) seemingly pushing her mother and step-father off a cliff. It then jumps to some time in the future with Detective Josie Quinn at a rural Pennsylvania retreat for PTSD suffers. Shortly before the seminar is supposed to end, a blizzard comes through, stranding Josie, the psychologist holding the retreat, and the other guests. Then it becomes similar to Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" as participants start getting killed or are missing.

I avoided doing some projects I was supposed to do and stayed home to read this in one day. It is a fast, excellent read. Highly recommended, as are the other books in the series.

"Face Your Fear" by Lisa Regan delivers a gripping and atmospheric thriller that seamlessly blends suspense with a captivating snowy landscape. The 'and then there was one' vibe adds an extra layer of tension, making it an engaging read. Regan's writing, even in the 19th book of the series, remains sharp, keeping readers hooked. A thrilling addition to the series, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. It was a 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me! Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy.

Face Her Fear is book #19 in the Josie Quinn series and like the previous ones, Lisa Regan knocked it out of the park and it got a solid five stars from me.

In this book, Josie is at a retreat to deal with the trauma of her past in a remote area. There are seven people and when a blizzard hits, they are stuck there. A body is found and another person goes missing. Josie is trying to figure out who she can trust and who is behind all the mayhem. This book digs more into Josie and the reader gets to know her better, which I loved.

Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and Lisa Regan for my eARC.

"Face Her Fear" is another riveting Josie Quinn mystery. This book finds Josie on a retreat where she is continueing to process her recent traumas. The retreat is being led by Dr. Sandrine Morrow. Each person attending is dealing with some form of PTSD. As the week goes on, one of the participants is found dead and Josie suspects murder. With an impending storm and very little resources, Josie has to figure out not only the murderer but also who in the retreat group is actually trustworthy. It seems that some of them might have come with alterior motives, As conditions deteriorate- Josie realizes not everyone is who they claim to be. Don't worry- the usual gang is still able to help Josie- just not in person! This is a well layered mystery that keeps getting better and better as you progress into the story. Every detail helps lead to an epic climax that will leave you glad you read this story! Kudos to Lisa Regan for continually allowing Josie to grow mentally and progress emotionally with each novel!

Face Her Fear (Detective Josie Quinn Book 19) by Lisa Regan
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thrillers
Expected Publication Date: January 30, 2024

Face Her Fear is the 19th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. I have not read all of the previous books yet (and I will!) and enjoyed this as a standalone mystery.

This book was so intense! It was emotional and scary. Detective Josie Quinn is at a therapy retreat on a mountain to deal with her PTSD when a blizzard hits and they get snowed in. I read this one in day because I could not leave Josie on that mountain alone. This book had so many layers and created uncertainty in who to trust.
I’m so ready to read the next book! This one ended too soon :)

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Lisa Regan how do you do it? It never gets stale, it always moves and twists and makes your heart race. I actually worry for Josie and Noah and pray for their safety so the story and series can continue. From the first paragraph I was hooked and I put this down only for a prearranged lunch date and could not wait to get back to this 19th volume in the series. Lots of action but also lots of puzzles pieces that just don’t fit together.

This story is different in that it’s sets Josie Quinn outside her role as a police detective, placing her at a retreat where she is trying to come to terms with some of her inner conflicts and sort out her rhythms. The setting is a remote mountain with an impending blizzard that is going to trap killers and innocents together. Well thought out, tightly crafted and always engaging, another great installment in the Detective Josie Quinn Series.

Many, many thanks to Bookoutre and NetGalley for a copy.

Face Her Fear is number nineteen in the Detective Josie Quinn series and is best read as part of the series. After losing her friend and a member of her team, Josie heads to a mountain lodge for a trauma therapy retreat to try to finally heal from all the loses she has faced. Trouble rears its head very quickly as a blizzard blows in and Josie finds the body of a missing member of the retreat. With phone signals almost nonexistent and the death toll rising, Josie must once again uncover lies and deception while facing down danger to get home to Noah. Full of action and suspense, the case twists and turns to keep you guessing right up to the end for compelling whodunnit. My voluntary, unbiased and non mandatory review is based upon a free review copy from NetGalley.

Face Her Fear is another gripping and thrilling installment in the amazing Detective Josie Quinn Series! However, Lisa Regan gave us all a twist in this book with a new approach. While the previous books in this series are police procedurals, Face Her Fear has more locked room mystery vibes, and I LOVED it!

Face Her Fear was such an engaging book that kept me guessing and questioning who the suspect was. Unlike the previous books that followed Josie, Noah and their detective team, this book focused mainly on Josie with just small glimpses from the detective team.

Detective Josie Quinn has had a traumatic life, after being plagued by insomnia that won’t go away, she decides to take time for herself. She is referred to a retreat in the snowy mountains of Pennsylvania, where she will take part in individual and group sessions to manage and learn coping skills to address the trauma that has happened in her life. The retreat takes a chilling turn when a group member goes missing and is found dead, presumed murdered, at the start of a blizzard.

With the blizzard, no one is able to get on or off the mountain. Tensions rise as Josie realizes one of them is a killer. Supplies dwindle, more dangers arise and suspicions kick into overdrive. Will the group make it off the mountain with everyone alive? Read Face Her Fear by Lisa Regan to find out! Can’t wait to find out what more is in store for Josie and the gang in future books!

Thank you NetGalley and Lisa Regan for the ARC of this book!

I've been with this series since the very first book, and it has quickly turned into one of my absolute favorite detective thriller series. I always look forward to meet up with Josie Quinn and the rest of the team again, and I've been curious to see where book number nineteen would take us. I have to point out that Face Her Fear is completely different than the previous installments, and more locked room than detective thriller. This change makes sense with what happened to the main character though... Plus, I have a weak spot for locked room mysteries, remote settings and a good bout of bad weather to seal the deal, so I was one happy camper with this new direction the series took. Without doubt another winner!

Like I said, Face Her Fear takes a completely different direction than the rest of the series, and there is no official police investigation nor is the rest of the team as present. Book number nineteen is mainly about Josie Quinn and her trying to come to terms with past events while at a trauma retreat. There will be spoilers for previous sequels, so you've been warned! This series in general focuses a lot on the personal development of the cast in the first place, so I strongly advice reading them in order to avoid both said spoilers and missing out on character background and development along the way.

Those who follow this series will probably understand that I'm still not over the death of certain character either, so it was interesting to see Josie dealing with her trauma in her way. The trauma retreat made for an interesting setting, especially with the remote Pennsylvanian mountain cabin setting and the bout of bad weather causing the small group to be trapped on the mountain. Nothing like a blizzard to create what is basically a locked room mystery! The weather played an integral role in the plot, and it created the perfect ominous atmosphere.

Main character Josie Quinn isn't in an official capacity when things start to go south, but she still tries to do her best without much help from the outside... The good old blizzard cutting them off from the rest of the world and all. It's only a small group of virtual strangers attending the retreat, and every single one seems to have something to hide. This adds plenty of suspense and intrigue, and plenty of possibilities for plot twists and tense moments. This isn't the only POV though, as we also follow Josie's husband Noah as he tries to get to Josie during the storm. Both POVs have some very intense scenes and escalations that have become typical of this series!

I don't want to give away too much of the plot, because that will take the fun out of trying to solve the locked room mystery... This is one of those stories where it's best to go in blind (albeit with the knowledge of the previous sequels under your belt). Face Her Fear ended up being SO different from the previous books, but it still packed a punch and I loved my time with this story. There were without doubt a couple twists I never saw coming! The ending left me curious; I do hope the new detective won't be too insufferable...

I have enjoyed the Josie Quinn series and look forward to seeing what happens next. This one was a bit different from the previous books as it was mainly about her and not the usual police procedural which was refreshing. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

This was an interesting installment in the Josie Quinn series - Josie is quite "on her own" in this one, and the seclusion and the who-done-it made for a really engaging and fast-paced story. I continue to enjoy how Lisa Regan writes Josie - she really is a multidimensional character, who has a lot of self-reflection and growth as the series continues. I liked the parallel of Josie needing to figure out if she can trust her own instincts, and trust others. I was pleased how everything ultimately wraps up, while also leaving be waiting happily for the next book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

I loved this book as much as I did the last 18. Josie Quinn is on of my favorite book characters.
It is always an edge of you seat read with Josie. You just never know what’s next.

I absolutely loved this book! Yes it’s different from the usual police procedurals but I think the author had a reason for writing this plot as she did. I think it was to let us get to know Josie better!

Josie is at a retreat for victims of trauma - she had a horrific childhood and also has recently lost her grandmother and a beloved team member, Mettner.

In this novel we learn even more about her childhood trauma and also a new disappointment that she and Noah have just found out about.

This novel was a bit slower to take off, but the characters all had to be introduced and we need to know at least a little about each of them. There is also the team retreat leader, Sandrine, who has secrets of her own.

I continue to be a fan of each book Ms. Regan has written. I really enjoyed getting to know Josie more in this novel where she had to “Face Her Fear” on many occasions during the story.

When a member of the group is found murdered - the story really takes off. Yes there is a snowstorm which was a little predictable. However the fact that Josie was stranded on top of this mountain with no help in sight, made her trust her instincts and decide who she could trust.

A great addition to the series. I bumped this up to a 5 because of how much I enjoyed it. Lisa’s writing is always stellar and this one was special.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to read and review this title.

This installment is set to publish on January 30, 2024.
