Another winner from Lisa Regan! This series is so captivating and one never knows what is the next adventure for Josie and Noah. This book kept me up at night thinking about it and what will happen next. Regan has also mastered her descriptions of the characters as well as the surroundings and makes everything so intriguing. This book is set at a mountain resort with seven people, including Josie and the therapist leader, where they unexpectedly get snowed in and people start getting killed. Josie is there to come to acceptance of her PTSD and how to deal with it. Initially it appearsthe others are there for the same reason. I can’t recommend this series enough, and even though I have an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher before it’s even published, I’m eagerly waiting for the next book in the series. All opinions expressed are my own.
You can’t go wrong with this series. I think I have read them all. This is an auto read for me. This one was focused more on Josie and not the team but it worked
Josie Quinn is trying to come to term with her lifelong trauma at a workshop in the mountains for those with extreme PTSD when a blizzard bears down on them. While most there are not who they seem to be, things turn deadly and begin to unravel. With her life in danger, as well as her husband Noah’s, each of them must fight to be reunited again. Loved this book and the unexpected plot twists that popped up. #NetGalley #FaceHerFear
Lisa Regan does not disappoint, ever! *minor spoilers ahead* This book was a little different than the rest of the series with Josie on a retreat by herself. She solves another case but this time her team is back at the station and she can’t get to them. I do love that we get a little bit of a beloved character back, even if it’s just in Josie’s thoughts. What I love most about this book is that Josie Quinn is tackling her PTSD and trauma.
As always, I can’t recommend this series enough. I read this one in less than 24 hours, it’s so good you’ll never want to put it down.
Still dealing with the trauma of her colleague Mettner’s death as well as her grandmother’s murder, Josie and five other participants attend a retreat at a remote, mountainous location in Pennsylvania. Focused on treating PTSD, it is lead by a New Agey therapist. Josie has had a falling out with husband Noah, so is also carrying that baggage. When a blizzard traps the attendees in that isolated, hard to reach locale, with diminishing supplies, poor phone reception and then one of the participants is found murdered, Josie attempts to preserve the evidence while figuring out just what is going on, who is hiding some secrets, and trying to protect the others from peril. This is not Josie’s usual environment and she has to improvise. Ever faithful Noah sets out in an effort to rescue Josie but puts his own life in danger.
This is number nineteen in the Josie Quinn series. It is one of my top must read series. This is yet another exciting, page turning read; I did not want to put it down. Regan always grabs my attention and won’t let go. Although this one did stretch the imagination a bit, the plot was intriguing. I enjoy Josie. Despite all the travails she has met with in her life, she remains a strong, intelligent, though vulnerable, character. I also like all the repeating characters who surround her both in her personal and professional life.
A new character is introduced…the replacement for Mettner. As the book concludes, he seems to be off to a bad start with all of the team members. I’m looking forward to seeing what transpires with him.
This can work as a stand alone, but do yourself a favor and read at least some of the prior ones. There is a lot of history to Josie and the other players. Regan does a good job of trying to fill in the background stories, but it would be more satisfying to actually read those past histories.
If you like well written police procedurals/thrillers, I highly recommend this series. I cannot wait for the next one.
Thanks to #netgalley and @bookouture for the ARC.
Good book! But I did like the others in the series a bit better, this book had the usual, it had suspense, intrigue, action, mystery, murder, A good who done it and some crazy twist and turns! The storyline was interesting but I just didn't care for that it was all in one place?! I've read books like that before and they were great but I'm not sure but this book didn't hold my attention for some reason?! Its still worth reading! It was a good read! But just ok for me! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
What's worse than facing your worst fears? Facing your worst fears in the company of dangerous strangers! Josie goes on a retreat from work only to find herself smack dab in the middle of another homicide. While struggling to face her fears and battle personal demons, she has to decipher who the real demons are that are stranded with her during a horrific blizzard. Despite crazy setbacks, Detective Josie Quinn fights for survival while using all of her wits to solve a crime that nobody was prepared for. Lisa Regan weaves a wicked tale that has surprises from the first page to the last. All of your guessing can't prepare for the conclusion, though I kept trying.
I don't think I'll ever get over the feeling of pure gratitude I get every time an ARC from Lisa Regan lands in my inbox. Book #19 was no exception... the happy dance took place immediately.
This was a complete change of pace from what I have become accustomed to with the Josie Quinn series and I'll openly admit that to start with I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to enjoy it but I can now hand on heart say 'round of applause'. What a brave decision to make and follow through with, pure respect to LR.
Following on from book #18, Josie is still really struggling with the death of her close friend and colleague Mettner. He was and still is her voice of reason. To try and find coping mechanisms and deal with her horrific childhood, Josie heads off to the Sacted New Beginnings Retreat, high up in the Pennsylvania mountains with 5 other complete strangers, all suffering with past trauma and/or PTSD. With no landline and no phone service around, it's time to focus purely on themselves.
The lady running the retreat, Sandrine, has enlisted the help of caretaker Cooper Rigg to help maintain the lodgings whilst she runs sessions. All is fine and well until a huge snowstorm arrives. With no way to contact anyone and no way out of the mountains, they have no choice to sit it out. And then one of the participants is found dead... was it hypothermia or was she murdered? And then another woman goes missing.... is there a killer on the loose? Is there a connection that Josie can't see?
After an argument in the days before Josie left, Noah is now desperate to get to her and put things right but with the storm hitting hard and fast will he get there in time?
I'll admit it dis feel kind of strange not having the gang together as I've grown used to but the clever way of including Noah and Gretchen was a great addition to the story. This book just highlighted how resourceful Josie is even without her team around her.
This is definitely more of a 'locked room's style of read but with the added bonus of ot being led by the amazing Josie Quinn. It may not have been what I'd been expecting but nether the less I LOVED it.
*at the wnd of the book we are introduced to the new Detective taking over from Mettner. I wholeheartedly agree with Gretchen's appraisal of him!*
Massive thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Face Her Fear Detective Josie Quinn #19
As Josie prepares to head off on a secluded mountain retreat in the hopes of helping her deal with past traumas, she and Noah are dealt another blow that hits way too close to home leaving her raw and off her game. This story is full of twists, turns, lies and deceit that pit Josie against the other participants of the retreat as she tries to determine friend from enemy while dealing with a well timed winter storm, unreliable cell service and all without the help of her team. True to her character Josie begins to unravel the truth one secret at a time. Another masterful tale from Lisa.
Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and the author for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another great Josie Quinn book! I personally loved this one. It kept me guessing and questioning throughout, which is what I like. I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about this new detective.... so far I'm agreeing with what Gretchen calls him at the end 😂.
Book #19.
This book is almost all Josie and since I love her character I loved the book. Josie has been struggling. Disappointing news in her personal life. Grieving for her friend and grandmother, she attends a trauma retreat. Trapped on a mountain in a bad snow storm. One member is found dead and another disappears. Intrigued? Read the book! Waiting for #20. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
Josie has lived through quite a lot of trauma and is trying to work on her coping mechanisms. However the remote mountain retreat, where a killer is on the loose and a massive snowstorm separates the participants from civilization, may not have been the best idea.
The concept of a group of people cut off from all help, with one of them being a murderer, isn’t exactly new, and I've read a few similar stories before. The actual motivation and background of this killer was unique, but the continous escalation was kind of to be expected. Josie is very much on her own in this book and I missed her usual great team dynamic a bit. Noah’s plot line added complexity to this book and even though I didn’t really like where his and Josie’s personal life story went, it was somewhat anticipated. That being said, it was still a great book. Josie managed quite well on her own and the actual case was captivating with twists I didn’t expect. I am very much looking forward to the next book.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Lisa Regan for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I have to admit I was worried about this book. I love the series but pretty much loathe ‘Closed door Mysteries’. I should have had more confidence 😂
“Face Her Fear," the 19th installment in Lisa Regan's Detective Josie Quinn series, is a heart-pounding thriller that deserves its 4.5-star rating. Regan skillfully weaves a chilling tale of suspense, taking readers on a gripping journey into the snowy mountains of Pennsylvania. The vivid descriptions of the isolated log cabins and the relentless storm intensify the atmosphere, immersing the audience in a sense of isolation and fear.
Josie Quinn, still reeling from personal tragedy, faces her most perilous case yet as she navigates a web of secrets among her fellow trauma retreat patients. The tension builds masterfully as the protagonist grapples with limited resources and the realization that the killer is within their midst. Regan's writing is sharp, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with every twist and turn.
"Face Her Fear" is a page-turner that showcases Regan's prowess in crafting suspenseful narratives. The intricate plot, well-developed characters, and the relentless pace make it a must-read for fans of the genre. This installment reaffirms Lisa Regan's status as a top-notch thriller author, delivering a compelling and gripping addition to the Detective Josie Quinn series.
I’m removing .5 of a star (perhaps unfairly) because I missed the whole tam dynamic and, of course, Harris! I’m eagerly looking to the next book I’m the series and seeing how the new team member fits in (or doesn’t).
This is the perfect book to read if you are new to the series because of the nature of the storytelling. However, I encourage you to dive deep into the whole series!
Thanks to Ms Regan, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Face Her Fear is a gripping mystery-thriller that kept me turning the pages. Although the book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone novel. The beginning of the story had a slower pace and then it took off. I enjoyed how the author revealed different pieces of the puzzle along the way. I couldn't stop reading and wanted to know how it would end. Great book!
Wow! I have been a Lisa Regan fan for a long time, but whether you know her work or you are new to her work, you will be blown away with this one! As always, such an amazing storyteller with a gripping storyline. The details woven into each character and setting make you feel as though you are actually in the scenes as they are happening. What makes the Josie Quinn series so fantastic is that Josie could be one of us or one of our friends - she is so relatable. And then the adventures just keep you guessing and at the edge of your seat (I might have had two really late nights reading - I just couldn't put it down!) Overwhelming praise for this one - it may be my favorite book of Lisa's yet!
Another great book in the Josie Quinn series! Although I found the book a bit slow in the beginning it definitely ramped up about half way through. This is one of my favorite series and this book was another great addition to the series. If you haven't read your missing out. If you love a great, different storyline with characters that you want to keep reading about then read this series and this book!!
One line stood out to me with this book and that was women were hard wired not to cause a stir because they can be accused of overreacting. That is just a paraphrase of the line but it did resonate with me. I really enjoyed this book as Josie Quinn was removed from her resources and team but still can be a great detective. This was a great book that I devoured over a couple of days. Josie is still my favorite.
I liked this book. I enjoy read Josie’s stories. This book was a great mystery with many secrets and red herrings. Stranded in the snow with a murderer…cell service limited…food running out…intrigue…Josie wants her husband or someone to rescue her and the others with her. One dead…maybe two…a body found and one missing…a therapist who might not be who she says she is…curl up in a comfy chair and become lost in book 19. Written by a talented author, this book has realistic characters who make the story move quickly. It ended too soon for me. I am eager to read the next Josie story. Thanks Netgalley.
Thanks to Lisa and NetGalley for allowing me to read Face Her Fear before the publication date.
The description of the book says it all.
The opening pages set the atmosphere as a woman slips over the edge of a cliff, closely followed by her husband when he tries to rescue her. But who is the third person who is there?
Detective Josie Quinn has been diagnosed with complex PTSD and her therapist had recommended the Sacred New Beginnings Retreat which specialises in the condition.
Each of the patients have a similar diagnosis but for different reasons.
There is little time for Josie to assess the other patients before the storm hits and it does not take long before tensions start to rise.
This is the equivalent of a locked room thriller, only set in a remote mountain location with an approaching storm and no way out.
As you would expect from Lisa, there are so many threads to this story and there are plenty of twists and turns before the truth is revealed.
This was a little different than the previous books. In this 19th installment, Josie is at a retreat to deal with her past trauma. There’s only seven of them there, in a very remote area. Of course, there’s a snow storm, trapping them there with no way to get out & limited supplies. Then someone dies (murdered?), and another goes missing. Josie fights for survival, fights to control her emotions, fights to figure out who she can trust, & fights to discover who is behind everything. This story is strictly Josie with few mentions of the others & a few chapters with Noah. This was reminiscent of a locked room story.
