I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review.
I love reading Jill Shalvis books. This one is a great addition to the Sunrise Cove series. There’’s mystery and unexpected action in this cute romance. It kind of reminded me of Sawyer and Chloe in Head over Heals <3
She has amazed me again. Wonderful characters, a great story that I didn't want to end and as always some charming four legged creatures.
Anna Moore is a PI, mostly for insurance fraud. She was a wild child, but has made a 180 and has become very ridged in her life, with little trust for anyone but her big sister, her brother-in-law and her few besties. And definitely not for men, as she has been hurt too many times. Then Owen Harris enters her life after she found a rare coin in a box of her Dad's things, a coin he claims was stolen from his great Aunt Ruby, who now suffers from dementia. The coin was a part of a collection along with a family heir, Ruby Red. He thinks that her father, who is now deceased stole it and she is out to prove her father innocent and find the stolen goods. He insists on staying at her side when she does. And since this is a Jill Shalvis story the mistrust soon turns to attraction and then love. To add spice and comic relief to the story, Wendy, Anna's sister is bedridden, pregnant with triples.
I was gifted with an advanced reader's copy of this book from NetGalley.com. This is my honest, unbiased and voluntary review.
Anytime I pick up a Jill Shalvis novel, I am guaranteed to get sucked into a story that I won't be able to put down for hours. Her stories are always full of quirky characters that you just can't help making a connection with as you read. This latest entry set in Sunrise Cove features Anna and Wendy who are trying to clear their father's reputation after his death. But as evidence mounts that is tarnishing his reputation, Anna also has to deal with her own conflicted feelings about her father. And if that isn't enough, she is also trying to manage her sister who is on bed rest while pregnant with twins and her attraction to the very man making her question her father's reputation. Aptly titled, the Summer Escape, is the perfect escape for an afternoon of reading enjoyment. Just to warn readers, it's impossible not to laugh at the antics between Wendy and Anna.
Such a fun, sweet novel. A little predictable in parts, but I really enjoyed it. There is already a waiting list at my library.
Anna and Owen embark on an adventure together. Anna to prove her father's innocence and Owen to recover his beloved Aunt's stolen property. Along the way they open up to one another and realize they have a lot in common and begin to trust each other. They may not be on opposite sides after all.
Anna's sister Wendy is on bed rest awaiting the arrival of her triplets but she's always in Anna's ear...literally....she makes Anna call her so she can hear everything as it's happening in the investigation. The banter between the sisters is hysterical.
I've said this before but it's worth saying it again...I absolutely LOVE that Jill Shalvis always has animals in her stories. It's just *chefs kiss*.
This one has Turbo, Owen's dog, who is such a character, honking the horn when he's tired of waiting. His antics had me literally laughing out loud. Of course I can't leave out the cats, CLAWdia and JenniFUR, The names are just too cute.
Such creativity for the storyline and personalities even for the pets and for someone like myself who is a huge animal lover it's the icing on the already delicious cake.
Thank you Jill Shalvis, Avon and Harper Voyager, and Netgalley for this ARC
The snark is off the charts here so fans of comedic stories, this one's for you! Shalvis does witty banter so well, and there's plenty of it here.
As a main character, Anna is relatable and likable. Her relationship with her sister seems realistic and provides for entertainment. Also, the dog Turbo is darling. The chemistry between Anna and Owen is a delicious slow burn that readers are sure to love. Finally, the mystery component and the scavenger hunt narrative keep us turning the pages to a satisfying conclusion.
You don't need to have read others in the series to enjoy this romantic caper; it easily stands alone.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy; all opinions in this review are 100% my own.
This has got to be one of the most juvenile, annoying books I have ever read. The sisters were absolutely ridiculous and I have no idea how either survives. The only decenter character was Owen and I wanted to tell him to run far, far away from Anna.
While part of a series set near Tahoe, this novel is easily read as a stand alone. It offers suspense and drama, romance, and heartfelt moments with family. The main characters were pretty interesting, even though the female lead was sometimes a bit obstinate about her relationships.
Anna owns a private investigator firm. Her and her sister stumble upon a rare coin worth a lot of money while going through their dad's things. A mystery ensues to find out why her dad had this coin.
Enter Owen Harris who wants to know why she has the coin. He is handsome and charming and wants answers about how she came to possess the coin.
Jill Shalvis has a way with dialogue and I found myself laughing out loud several times in this book. The banter between her and her pregnant sister is hilarious.
There is a lovable dog named Turbo in this book. Full of spunk and happiness, this dog's positive energy is contagious. His antics will keep you smiling and the bond between him and Owen is one of my favorite parts of the story.
The other thing I love about this story is the relatability of the characters and what they are going through. It touched me on a personal level because of spunky Ruby who dimmed a bit due to dementia much like my mother. The interaction between Anna and Ruby during one of her moments hit home and warmed my heart all at the same time.
Turbo reminded me of my rescue border collie mix who would do anything for a treat, is always happy and talks back all rolled up into a dog who adores the person who rescued him. Every single look conveys that.
Anna reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. I related to her the most. She is motivated by the same things and approaches situations in a similar way. There are not a lot of characters that I connect with on this level personally. Jill Shalvis has a way of covering all the kind of people across her books and seems to somehow understand them all on a deep level.
The family component of this book and the backstory of the characters really contributed to making them likable and relatable. Jill builds the layers brick by brick and you end up with a fully fleshed out person you feel like you know.
The chemistry between Anna and Owen is like a slow burn and I loved it. I felt myself anticipating the point where the flame was allowed to burn bright. Once again Jill Shalvis does not disappoint. Great story all around and love the mystery component to this one.
THE SUMMER ESCAPE is the sixth book in the Sunrise Cove series by Jill Shalvis. While I haven’t read all the other books in the series, I’ve read enough to have a grasp on the characters and the world where this series takes place. This time around, we have Anna, with her normally reserved and predictable life, suddenly finding herself entangled in a race against time with Owen Harris, a charismatic and enigmatic adventurist. Their mission is to clear Anna's father's name after he was accused of stealing a valuable necklace worth one million dollars. As always, the side characters in this town present commentary and side action.
This is an appealing book from a consistent author. Recommend to Romance a Women’s Lit readers.
anna Moore is a private investigator. when her father dies, she finds a rare coin and has it apprised and finds out it was stolen. she sets out to clear his name.. loved the story.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! This was SO good! Welcome to Snarky Snarktown! It was funny and snarky, with awesome characters and a great love story with a bit of a mystery as well. The highlight was the interactions between Anna, her sister, Wendy, and Owen.
As an extra bonus, Jill Shalvis had very little profanity in this story and the love scenes were more PG-13 than R.
I loved this story and highly recommend it for a fun rollicking good time!
I always love reading books by Jill Shalvis, she never disappoints. The Summer Escape is the 6th book in the Sunrise Cove series. It’s got a bit of mystery, romance and action packed.
Anna Moore is a private investigator. She finds a rare coin in her deceased father’s possession and gets it appraised. When Anna learns it was stolen, she intends to clear her dad’s name. However, a certain charismatic yet annoying man insists on being a part of the investigation. Anna plans to keep Owen at arm’s length. Add in a meddlesome, heavily pregnant sister into the mix. Can Anna and Owen find the other coins and missing necklace? What truths will she learn about her father?
Owen Harris co-owns a local adventure company. When a certain rare coin appears in the news, he intends to return it to its rightful owner. Owen believes Anna’s father is behind the decades-old theft. He coerces her into allowing him to accompany her in the investigation. However, Owen never intended on feeling a connection with Anna. As the case deepens, his opinion begins to change. Will Owen get his elderly great-aunt’s property back? Can he and Anna find the true culprit?
Anna and Owen have a lot in common. I like how they both believe they are not “keepers”. That they both keep people at arm’s length, afraid to let people in enough to hurt them.
I love Anna and Wendy’s closeness. Even though Wendy annoys her, Anna still knows that her sister loves and worries about her. I like how Owen falls first, especially since he tends to keep emotional distance from the women in his past. I also like his care for his great-aunt. Dementia is a cruel disease. Jill Shalvis does a superb job of showing that, and its toll on their family and loved ones.
THE SUMMER ESCAPE is the sixth book in Jill Shalvis’ contemporary romance series, SUNRISE COVE. Each installment can stand alone. The only thing that connects each story together is the setting: Sunrise Cove in Tahoe, California. I do wish that the characters from the prior books would make an appearance, even if the role is tiny. I just miss them!
Jill Shalvis never fails to make me laugh. And this book is no exception! There were several scenes, especially involving Wendy, that had me snickering. I always know when I pick up a book with her name on it, I am going to thoroughly enjoy it.
I love reading books by Jill Shalvis. There's never a dull moment in them. I enjoyed this one. It was heartfelt, romantic, and even had some suspense to it. I loved the relationship the sisters had with each other. It makes me wish I had a close relationship with my sisters. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review.
I think this might be my favorite of all of Jill Shalvis' books I've read. I haven't read all her books but all in this series for sure and this is #1 for me. I loved Anna and Owen and their flaws and the development of their relationship throughout the book. I loved Anna's very pregnant sister Wendy and her husband Hayden. I loved Owen's aunt Ruby who suffers from dementia. Okay, I didn't love Shady Joe or his son Will, but we weren't supposed to. This one is a definite must read for all Shalvis fans and all romance readers even if you aren't yet Shalvis fans. I think this could definitely be read without having read the other books in the series so grab it as soon as you can!
Against the appealing setting of their Lake Tahoe area hometown, two sisters work to clear their father's name when he is suspected as a jewel thief. The sisters have a long way to go before they truly can get along, and romance enters the picture for both. I look forward to recommending this title to readers who also enjoy books by Kristan Higgins, Robyn Carr, and Susan Mallery.
I have read a lot of Jill Shalvis books but this one I felt the characters were underdeveloped and not realistic. I did finish the book but it didn't hold my interest as other books have.
