Jill Shalvis always delivers an entertaining read that you can spend a day or two getting lost in.
Anna is a private investigator and she and her sister Wendy have just recently lost their father. upon going through his things, they find a li treasure. Their small town gets word of the item in question turns out to be part of a jewelry set that was stolen. And walks Owen Harris, determined to prove Anna‘s dad guilty as the necklace belongs to his elderly great aunt.
Working on opposite sides, and very cautious of one another they’re each out to prove their point. However, the chemistry between the two is undeniable. Anna and Owen, both afraid of commitment, constantly talking about why they can’t have a relationship can’t deny the pool they have to one another.
I enjoyed The Summer Escape. This story is definitely character driven. Ana and Wendy are so snarky. I couldn’t stop laughing. The banter between the two sisters was one of the highlights of the book. This one is a little different from what we are used to reading from Jill Shalvis, but I will say this I found it just as entertaining as any of her other books, even if it was a little bit different.
I’ve enjoyed this stand alone series and it just keeps getting better. Great characters you can’t help but adore and smart witty writing that is endearing and a little bit emotional. It’s a romance, but so much about family, the good, the slightly offbeat, and those with a lot of secrets, some intrigue, a road trip, one very pregnant sister and at the heart of it all, love. The sisters' relationship was wonderful. I couldn’t sleep and read straight through. Enjoyed from start to finish. Can’t wait for the next one.
The Summer Escape by Jill Shalvis is the sixth book in the Sunrise Cove series. I've only read one other book in the series, but don't think that took away from my understanding of this book in the slightest. I love that the story takes place in Tahoe, I lived there for many years and always have a soft spot for all things Tahoe. This is the story of two sisters, Anna and Wendy, that find an old coin and upon having it appraised, find out it is worth quite a lot of money and draws the attention of Owen. Owen is convinced that the sister's father stole the coin, along with a very valuable necklace, and he wants to prove this so he can get the items returned to his aunt. Anna and Owen end up working together to figure out what the true story is and in doing so wonder if maybe there could be more to their partnership than the mystery they're working to figure out. The book is a cute read, but I didn't feel much of a connection to the characters. Although, the character that stood out to me was Wendy, seven months pregnant with girl triplets and always coming up with funny possible names for her trio.
Since her father's passing, Anna has tried to be the staid, reliable sister. She feels an obligation to protect her very pregnant sister, Wendy. Wendy worries about Anna. Then Owen shows up accusing their father of stealing from his elderly aunt. Suddenly, uptight Anna finds herself working with calm, even tempered Owen to find his aunt's missing necklace and prove that her father isn't a thief
I loved the combination of Anna and Owen. Anna is written so you can practically see the tension in the way she holds herself, feel the weight of responsibility she places on her shoulders. Owen is the exact opposite. He doesn't let events phase him. He rolls with the punches, but he's willing to take a risk when he has to. And that includes enduring Anna's snark as he tries to break through the walls she's built to protect herself.
This was just a fun book to read. It started with a bit of a cozy mystery feel, but with a bit of extra suspense and romance. Anna's sometime snide, sometimes sarcastic comments are offset by Owen's logic and calm demeanor. But the humor comes from Wendy. Stuck on bed rest for her high risk pregnancy, the only way Wendy can take part in the scavenger hunt is by cell phone and an ear bud. Her ridiculous take on the situation kept me smiling.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Anna and Owen. Anna is a private investigator. Owen co-owns an adventure company. Anna finds a gold coin in a box of her deceased father’s. Owen shows up at her office tell ing about his great aunt had coins and a necklace stolen, the coin looked like his aunt’s. He hires Anna to investigate the coin. They start in viewing people. They are texting, talking and spending every night together. They fall in love.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon & Harper Voyager for this ARC! This was such a fun summer read. When Anna discovers a million dollar necklace in her late father’s things, she finds herself in a position where she is trying to clear his name as he’s been accused of stealing it. Owen, the accuser, is a hot adventurist who believes the necklace was stolen from his aunt. They end up working together to try and piece together the puzzle of the necklaces origin. Wendy is Anna’s older sister who is pregnant with triplets. Bored from bed rest, she has to insert herself into the entire journey. She was my favorite character, and was hilarious! This book was so much fun. I enjoyed every second of it. The scavenger hunting was so entertaining for me. It gave me all the feel good, summer feels and was a light easy read. This is part of her Summer Cove series and they can be read as standalones! 🏴☠️
This is the perfect summer read! It has adventure, family conflicts and romance. It also proves that opposites attract. I just couldn't put this one down!
This was such a great read! It had a little bit of everything all in one story! I loved the family dynamic between sisters and the bond they shared. The same can be said for Anna and Owen and all their bantering back and forth. (lots of wit and humor too). There were so many little stories and mysteries within this book and I loved all of them. The great mystery behind the Ruby necklace and everything in between. Such great writing and fun, easy to relate to characters!
In this sizzling Sunrise Cove standalone, secrets come to light and forbidden sparks fly. This captivating story of enemies turning into lovers is filled with redemption, hidden treasures, and unexpected romance.
The story kicks off when Anna Moore’s life takes an unexpected twist. She teams up with Owen Harris, a charming and enigmatic adventurist, to clear her late father’s name from a million-dollar necklace theft. Their goals clash—Anna is set on proving her dad’s innocence, while Owen wants to return the necklace to his great aunt. Yet, the chemistry between them adds more excitement to their journey.
With Wendy’s help (Anna’s sister), who is pregnant, - also being stuck at home on bedrest, is guiding Anna and Owen on their treasure hunt.
During this hunt, Owen and Anna realise they might have discovered something other than the treasure they are hunting.
The characters feel real and relatable, making it a joy to watch Anna and Owen’s romance unfold amid the suspense and humor. Shalvis’s engaging writing and the well-paced plot make this a perfect summer read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon, and Harper Voyager for providing a copy of this eARC.
I loved this story; a story of family, love, mystery, and humor. The characters are all warm, very likeable people. The humor is just perfect, especially when names are suggested for the sister who is pregnant with triplets! I loved the sister's relationship! Definitely one of Jill Shalvis's best books!
If you’re of a certain age 😉 you may remember the movie “Romancing the Stone.” This book has those same vibes! Anna and Owen go on an adventure looking for a hidden treasure that may have been stolen by Anna’s dad. Along the way, they face danger, a convoluted mystery, and scariest of all, falling in love. Anna’s sister, Wendy, set off the whole thing, and often comes along via Bluetooth. This results in hilarious conversations and a few awkward moments too. In the end though, family is everything and love is a risk worth taking.
"The Summer Escape" by Jill Shalvis is a captivating blend of romance, mystery, humor, and heartfelt family dynamics. Set against a picturesque backdrop, Shalvis weaves a story filled with intriguing twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end. The romantic elements are charming and genuine, while the dynamics between sisters add depth and authenticity to the narrative. (I received an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.) With its engaging plot and delightful characters, this novel is a perfect summer read that will leave you thoroughly entertained and eagerly turning pages.
another fabulous read from jill shalvis. I really loved anna and owen in this one, I also really loved wendy and anna’s relationship. And loved all the fun triplet names. This was a very cute, simple, and sweet read. Thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next one!
I love Jill Shalvis. From the very beginning of my reading journey, she was my go-to author. The Summer Escape was so sweet and full of so many emotions.
Anna and Owen have an undeniable connection yet are so wrong for one another. Leave it to an old mystery to bring them together. While trying to solve an old crime, Anna and Owen are brought together and forced to fight the obvious attraction while they hunt for answers to solve this cold case. Both afraid of commitment and rejection at the same time, their love is inevitable.
Who doesn't love a good romance mixed in with a mystery.
10/10 recommend all things Jill Shalvis.
Thank you Jill Shalvis, Avon and Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars!
This book was just plain easy and nice to read. It was cute, witty and adventurous. I love that the characters are relatable, that there's a simple plot to the story and the witty banter between the characters is just pure goodness. I love reading these books as a little palate cleanser between more intense books.
Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books and author Jill Shalvis for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Summer Escape, the sixth (standalone) book in the Sunrise Cove series, is going straight to my personal Jill Shalvis Hall of Fame. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's one of my top five all-time Shalvis favorites. I've already read it twice. I have no doubt I'll visit it again. It double checked all of my happy reader boxes.
Shalvis has packed this book with everything I enjoy about her writing and them some. The book is perfectly paced. At no point in the reading did it lag or lose my interest. The snappy banter between Anna and Owen barely conceals the growing chemistry between them in an adversaries-to-lovers trope that evolves into sleuthing partners before pesky feelings show up to play and things get real. I loved these two and the way their relationship unfolded, especially with Anna's sister along for the ride.
Let's talk about Wendy, Anna's bedridden-bored-out-of-her-mind-enornously-pregnant-with-triplets older sister. I adored the dynamics between these two. Love, snarky humor, exasperation...did I mention love? Their bond is unbreakable but also contains issues that need to be worked through. Such is the case when the older sibling has not only been your mother figure since birth but is also an unapologetic meddler/matchmaker (she just wants her sister to be happy!). Shalvis gives us all the emotion between the sisters, wrapping it up in a way that's poignant, relatable, and laugh-out-loud hilarious. Seriously, I lost count of the number of times I snort laughed when these two hit the page.
There's also a mystery/adventure/treasure hunt element to this book that kept me on my toes right up to the breath-stealing conclusion. I'd like to see Shalvis do more of this. She's really good at it.
And finally, is it really a Jill Shalvis book without an animal? I think not. Meet Turbo, Owen's big, fluffy, overly enthusiastic dog who is terrified of stairs, metal grates, and cats. I dare you to not fall in love with him.
If you're looking for a fun getaway this summer, complete with romance, adventure, a bit of danger, snappy banter, laugh-out-loud humor, and endearing emotional depth, add The Summer Escape by Jill Shalvis to your reading list. It's a winner.
Jill Shalvis books are just the bomb! She does this amazing job of giving us well developed characters, swoon worthy heroes, humor, and heart all wrapped into a wonderful, well written story! I loved Anna and Owen’s story. The hero and heroine come together to solve a mystery and end up falling in love. This book is not without conflict because Anna and Owen have to fight their pasts in order to be together.. I loved the side story and the humor that Wendy, Anna’s sister, brings to the story. This book was so much fun. A great summer read! Huge thanks to Avon and Harper Voyager publishing and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this wonderful story!
A story with romance, mystery and humor. Jill Shalvis knows how to write a story. I loved the banter between the sisters. There were moments that I laughed out loud, my husband thought I was crazy. It's an easy read that will keep you interested until the end.
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and Harper Voyager and Jill Shalvis for the opportunity to read this ARC.
OMGoodness!
Jill Shalvis does it again with an amazing read, The Summer Escape, the sixth standalone novel in the Sunrise Cove series.
What a summer read that you will enjoy from the beginning to the end. Not only is there humor, family drama, and a feel-good love story, but there is also a mystery element for your reading pleasure.
We cannot leave out the “scavenger hunt” journey this book takes you on as Anna Moore and Owen Harris race against the clock to uncover clues and the truth. You are on the edge of your seat alongside Anna’s sister, Wendy, who is low-key playing matchmaker, as she tags along remotely via an earbud.
The Summer Escape is a book of all the feels. Jill Shalvis does not disappoint, bringing us a feel-good read with characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and totally root for their happy ever after. She gives us an unforgettable meet-cute that sets the tone for an enemies-to-lovers love story to unfold. Being on opposing sides, and totally suspicious of each other is still not enough for sparks not to fly between these two, and difficult to deny their fiery chemistry.
It is an enjoyable summer read!
I will always, always read a book by Jill Shalvis and this one didn't disappoint. The story follows Anna Moore as she meets up with gorgeous Owen and they try to solve a mystery. The dialogue feels so natural and I was laughing at the quips between Anna and her pregnany sister Wendy. The adventure and chemistry between Anna and Owen kept me reading well into the night.
