If you're looking for a light, feel good, summer read then look no further... Jill Shalvis always delivers. This book is the sixth book in the sunrise cove series but it is my first foray into the series and I didn't feel lost at all. It's a little bit romance, a little bit mystery. Romance and fantasy is now its own genre as romantacy so is romance and mystery now its own genre as romystery? This could be a thing lol! Quick, fun, & just enough drama and suspense to keep it interesting, perfect for summer 😎
Another great story by one of my go to authors, Jill Shalvis! I love a good mystery adventure, especially when it’s with enemies to lovers. Anna wants to clear her dad’s name in the matter of a stolen necklace. Owen wants the jewels returned to his aunt. Needless to say, plenty of chaos happens in their quests! Of course, there’s the unmistakable attraction thrown in along with plenty of witty lines and passionate moments. The great thing about a Jill Shalvis romance, you don’t have to have read the other books in the series to enjoy any of them, but why deny yourself?! 😉
**Thank you toNetGalley for the ARC of this book!**
As always Jill Shalvis puts together a winner. I don't know how she continues to write books with all of these feels.
Anna is a private investigator who stumbles onto a case of her own involving a special coin, her father and an adventure seeking man. I really liked Owen and thought he was a good match for Anna, who needs to be brought back to trying new things and taking chances. I liked that there was a bit of a mystery.
Anna's sister Wendy is pregnant with triplets and this was my least favorite aspect of the book. I found her to be annoying, especially in doing things like texting "911" while pregnant just to get Anna over to her house. Just not cool.
Overall it was a excellent read and fits in nicely for summer.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest opinion. I requested this book because the author has quickly become one of my favorites. I have never read anything by her that got less than 4 stars, I believe and I enjoy the heck out of each one. If you like romance with a tiny bit of action, a really good story line and A LOT of laughter, these books are for you....plus every single one I have read has a dog companion lol...that has to add some good times, right?
The Summer Escape is the latest release by the very talented Jill Shalvis. I loved getting to know Owen and Anna and their loved ones in this amazing story. It had me laughing so hard at times, that I had to take a moment to get it together so that I could read what happened next. The Summer Escape pulled me in from the very beginning. I absolutely could not put it down. The characters felt so real. I found Anna’s character very relatable because of her anxiety, since I suffer from it as well.
Thank you to Avon Books for the ARC of this title. While there were aspects about the book that I did enjoy, I felt that I was pretty bored throughout the whole first half. The connection to the characters just wasn't there for me. I understand the main character's desire to clear her dad's name, but teaming up with the guy that is trying to prove her wrong seemed forced. The setting was a fun one for me because I have been to Tahoe multiple times and I enjoyed the relationship between the sisters but overall, I don't think this one was for me, I could see this being an enjoyable read for other people, though. Thanks for the opportunity to review it!
The Summer Escape is the sixth book in Jill Shalvis’ Sunrise Cove series. Each book in this series is a standalone, with all of the books tied together by the picturesque Lake Tahoe setting.
I’ve come to count on Shalvis’ books for a sweet romance, lots of fun banter, and usually a furry companion that steals the spotlight. There’s all of that and more in The Summer Escape because we also have a fun mystery/scavenger hunt element that I really enjoyed.
Anna unexpectedly finds a valuable rare coin among her late father’s belongings. She and very pregnant sister Wendy are shocked when a handsome man named Owen shows up and says that the coin is part of a collection that was stolen from his family. Owen proclaims Anna and Wendy’s dad the thief and insists that they hand over what rightfully belongs to him. They have no idea what he is talking about and frantically set out to clear their dad’s name.
Anna and Owen pair up and go on a scavenger hunt for clues, with Wendy at home but still along for the ride via an ear bud. The hunt for clues takes them on a wild and surprising adventure where Anna and Wendy learn a lot about their dad’s past, but what perhaps is most surprising is how even though they are pitted against one another, Owen and Anna find themselves undeniably attracted to one another.
Shalvis writes relationships of all kinds so well. I loved the chemistry between Owen and Anna and was of course rooting for things to work out between them. Another relationship that captured my heart in this book was the sisterly bond between Anna and Wendy. They are hilarious and snarky toward one another but you can clearly tell how much they adore each other.
If you’re in the mood for a heartwarming story that has not only a sweet romance, but also a little mystery and a lot of humor, you can’t go wrong with The Summer Escape!
I always enjoy the characters in a book by Jill Shalvis, this was no exception. I liked the relationship between Anna and her sister, Wendy. They are both so supportive of the other. The romance that develops between Anna and Owen has that bit of back and forth because they are on opposite sides of a hunt for a valuable necklace that may bring out bad news about Anna and Wendy’s father. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
A solid 3.75 stars read. How far would you go to clear a parents name? Would you be willing to expose your family?
********I received an ARC for my honest opinion from NetGalley.***************
This is part of the Sunrise Cove series but can be read as a standalone. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the writing, the story, and the characters. Anna and Wendy's dad recently passed away. While going through his things they come across a coin. They get it appraised and it's worth a ton. The small town finds out about this treasure, and Owen, who owns an adventure tour business, hears of this and insists it belongs to his aunt. With petty theft in his past, Anna and Wendy want to clear their dad's name and find out how this coin came to be in his possession. Wendy is on pregnancy bedrest, so Owen and Anna set off to find out the truth.
These characters felt real, and I loved watching Anna and Owens' romance and connection grow. The mystery was suspenseful and there were parts to laugh at as well. Great summer read!
The Summer Escape is a standalone novel in Jill Shalvis’ Sunrise Cove series. Private investigator Anna Moore is asked by her very pregnant with triplets sister Wendy to find out about a coin found in their late father’s belongings. In doing so, attention is called to them by the original owner of the coin series. The coins, along with a priceless ruby necklace, were stolen from Owen Harris’s great aunt Ruby about ten years ago.
Unbeknownst to Anna and Wendy, their father Louis was a suspect in this heist and he had a record from his earlier days. However, as a widower with two young daughters to raise, Louis had not only given up such endeavors but had created a good business flipping houses and using excess funds for humanitarian purposes. About a year earlier Louis had succumbed to MS and its complications.
Adamant that her father had nothing to do with the heist, Anna is surprised when Owen hires her to find the missing items with the caveat that he will accompany her in the investigation. While butting heads and fighting attraction, Anna and Owen undertake an unusual partnership as they each seek truth.
This was a well plotted story with rich characters, a lovely setting, and a story that brings lonely souls together, albeit in an unusual manner. I did enjoy this story and I do recommend it.
This was such a fun book to read. It was romantic and full of fun humor and banter. I liked how close Anna and her sister Wendy were. Wendy was pregnant with triplets which made the story interesting and funny. I also enjoyed the suspense and how Owen came into Anna's life. They were opposites that definitely had sparks between them but it would never work because he didn't do long term or let women in and Anna always ran away to protect her heart. Add to all of that the mystery and suspense and it made for a fun book to read. I will miss these characters and their sense of humor. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I loved this book. Jill Shalvis, as always, has written engaging, strong characters and a book filled with heart and, in this case, a bit of mystery. Anna and Owen proved to be a great couple and I loved how they reached their “happily ever after.” I love the Lake Tahoe setting, as well. I lost my Kindle early on vacation and had to wait nearly four weeks to have another so that I could finish this book—which I did in about three days. Do yourself a favor and get this book.
4 1/2 Stars rounded up to five.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
After discovering a coin in her late father's belongings, Anna sets out on a mission to find the stolen goods and clear her father's name. With the help of the victim's grand-nephew, Owen, she hopes to recover the items but may also find her elusive HEA.
You know what's always a guaranteed good time? A Jill Shalvis book. Her books never disappoint, and once again, I laughed and smiled the whole way through one of her books.
I feel like it's been a while since I read a Shalvis book with some suspense and mystery, but it was a fun change of pace. It was a great way to push Anna and Owen together, and a little danger always forces those love-adverse characters to make those big declarations I desire.
I wholeheartedly adored this couple, too! They seemed like total opposites, but they fit so well together. Anna had traded in her life of spontaneous decisions and risk taking after being hurt by yet another "bad boy" who left her. And who should get the butterflies going? An adventure seeking dare devil who eschews attachments. Yes, they seem like they should run from each other, but when they were together, they felt safe. Both of these wonderfully wounded characters wiggled their way into my heart making it easy to root for them on their way to the HEA.
There was another relationship that stole that spotlight, and that was the one between Anna and her sister Wendy. They had an interesting dynamic as Wendy was the mother figure in Anna's life growing up. They shared a strong bond, and the love flowed freely between the two. I adored all their scenes which were full of snark and humor and the type of affection expected between siblings.
This was another great visit to Sunrise Cove which was made even better with beautiful scenery, fun furry friends, a swoony romance, a little mystery, and lots of humor and warmth.
Another great story in the series that can be read as a standalone book. The characters meet after a rare coin is found in her deceased father's belongings. Anna is featured in an article and Owen recognizes the coin from his great aunts collection and hires Anna to find out who stole it or how it disappeared . As strangers, she and Owen agree to share information to determine the history of the coin from a collection along with a ruby necklace.
As they work together and meet some unsavory characters, Owen becomes protective of Anna and they grow closer. Finding the answer to how the coin came to be in her fathers possession, will test their growing relationship.
A little bit of mystery, suspense, danger and romance make for a captivating story you're going to want to read.
Although I received a free ARC ebook from Net Galley and the publisher, all thoughts and opinions are my own!
If you are looking for a great summer escape - here it is! Jill Shalvis writes fun stories that will have you laughing and relaxing! The Summer Escape is a fun romp of a read with a meddling heavily pregnant sister who just can't keep her nose out of her sibling's business.
A beautiful story of love, romance, humor and redemption.
I enjoyed the element of mystery in the story.
The Summer Escape would be a beach/pool read you need to pick up. You will be happily entertained throughout the book.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Summer Escape is the 6th book in the Sunrise Cove series by Jill Shalvis, though this can definitely be read as a standalone. This is a sweet, summer romance between Anna and Owen, with a side of mystery.
The two team up to uncover the mystery of the missing necklace and coin, a keepsake Owen’s grandmother lost and Anna’s late father is purported to have stolen. The two, though being on opposing sides, form a reluctant friendship as they work to unravel this mystery. Emotions are running high as disconcerting issues are raised about Anna’s beloved father. We also witness the tender bond between Owen and his aunt who raised him, who is losing the battle against her memory issues. Despite all odds, including personal pain from the past and resolutions to stay single, this working relationship between Anna and Owen eventually becomes something deeper and more lasting.
We also get to know Wendy, Anna’s older sister who is supremely pregnant with triplets. She is a bit bossy, having had a major hand in raising her little sister, but she’s also funny and has a good-heart. I appreciated her growth arc because at first I found her quite controlling and really didn’t care for her very much. But the bond and obvious love between the two sisters became evident and was nothing short of inspiring, and a charming addition to the story.
I did find the climatic argument towards the end of the story to be petty and overly dramatic, and I wasn’t a fan of the gentle, but very present men-ridiculing and demeaning that was weaved throughout the narrative. Though a bit steamier than I prefer, and rather predictable, The Summer Escape is nonetheless, an enjoyable, feel-good, entertaining story.
The Summer Escape is part mystery, part thriller, part romance, and all fun! I enjoyed the characters, the story and the HEA.
Anna and Owen are different. Different lifestyles, different responsibilities, and different histories with one huge exception. An unsolved and suddenly a pressing mystery has Owen trying to find stolen jewels and Anna defending her father's honor. Anna can't believe the man who raised her could have stolen the jewels but evidence seems to show him to have committed crimes with a partner. All indicators seem to Owen to point to Anna's dad and another man having stolen his great-aunt's jewels. Anna wants to be mad at Owen for suspecting her dad. She also doesn't want to be attracted to an adventurist like Owen. However, their chemistry is so explosive it can't be denied for long.
I loved both Anna and Owen and this story has the perfect mix of conflict, crime-solving and budding love to have me turning page after page. I recommend it.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
I have to hand it to Jill Shalvis for making me laugh and enjoy myself while I was reading her upcoming story The Summer Escape. The story is about two people that have to work together in order to find a missing ruby necklace and rare coins that were burgled a decade ago. Anna Moore is an investigator and her father is under suspicion for the crime. Owen Harris wants her to explain how she is in possession of a coin that is his great Aunt’s property. He thinks her father did the crime and now she wants to clear his name. They both concede to keep each other in the loop and try to find the truth, while trying hard to fight the chemistry and attraction they have for one another.
I don’t have to think twice when it comes to a Jill Shalvis book because I know she writes stories that are a good blend of humor, wit, lovable characters and a bit of drama. The main character’s adventure sends them on a hunt, and as the get closer to the truth, things heat up between Anna and Owen. Both are keeping things casual with an end to things when the case is over, but the danger makes them realize that this thing between them could be the real deal. There is an added bonus of Anna’s sister Wendy and her pregnancy with triplets, that is funny, and heartwarming to see how much they care for one another. I loved this story because of the banter between Anna, Owen and Wendy, the tension she creates with their attraction for one another and the mystery of a whodunit. A definite must-read for some summer fun.
