Another winner from Jill Shalvis. Really enjoyed the lead characters getting to know each other, and the sister was hilarious! Had me laughing so much!
Anytime I pick up a Jill Shalvis book it's an automatic 4 stars or higher. I LOVE her writing style, her character building, and the chemistry she creates within her love stories. I have read all of the Sunrise Cove books, and this one is such a great addition! I think my favorite character in the book is Wendy. Her humor and wit had me rolling. The sisterly bond between Anna and Wendy was so heartwarming. This book was a little different compared to the others in the series. Romance with some thriller/mystery vibes. I really enjoyed it!
Another wonderful read from Jill salvis! Fantastic writing and makes you wanna keep reading. Five star read !!
When Anna finds a coin in her late father's belongings, she embarks on a mission, at the behest of her sister Wendy, to find out if the coin is worth anything. Anna's small town was having a slow news day, so when Anna finds out the coin is worth $10,000, it makes the local news. Unfortunately, rumors swirl about Anna's dad being a cat burglar, and Owen appears claiming that the coin, and a priceless necklace, was stolen from his aunt's collection. Owen and Anna form a tentative friendship, and then more, to uncover what really happened to the coin and necklace.
Jill Shalvis is my favorite author, so it pains me to say that this one wasn't my favorite. I know how good her books can be, so this one fell a little short of my expectations. Wendy's manipulations were not cute or funny to me, so I had a really hard time getting past that. Owen and Anna's relationship went from 0 - 100 startlingly quickly (even for a romance), and the plot was not my favorite. The bit of action was fun, and overall Anna and Owen seem sweet together.
The Summer Escape is a fun and delightful story as only Jill Shalvis can deliver. Anna and her sister, Wendy, try to clear their dad of a crime they are sure he did not commit. Owen is positive their dad is guilty and stole his great-aunt’s valuable jewelry and coin collection. Anna and Owen are on opposite sides but opt to work together to discover the truth, and hopefully return the stolen items to the rightful owner. The antics of Wendy, who is pregnant and bedridden with triplets, is amusing. I love the banter between the sisters, the chemistry between Anna and Owen, and the adorable Turbo, Owen’s dog. This is a heartwarming story with lots of emotion, humor, and mystery.
Will I always read anything Jill Shalvis writes? Yes, I am. I won’t lie to you. I always adore anything she writes. She knows how to write something different from her previous books. And this one isn’t different.
The Summer Escape may be a bit different from Jill Shalvis books by offering a bit of a mystery subplot that involves the two main characters, Anna and Owen. They may not get along with each other when neither of them is backing down from the investigation of the missing jewels.
Let me back up a second. Apparently, Anna's older sister, Wendy, discovered a very valuable item that can be worth something, but it doesn’t belong to their father. They both discovered that the priceless item is worth a lot and was stolen years ago. And now, their father's reputation is on the line when Owen demands his great-aunt's jewelry back.
It’s a bit of a doozy between Anna and Owen. They don’t trust each other, and yet they are attractive to each other when they shouldn’t be. Both of them have baggage that doesn’t make their relationship material. And they both agreed that they wouldn’t pursue their interests together.
I already know that Anna and Owen are lying to each other. They are just gravitating toward each other, even though they don’t fully trust each other. And it’s pretty funny to read because I know these two are being delusional about their denials. I am all for it because I love it when the male love interest falls harder. It just makes the read so much juicier and angsty.
This was an entertaining story. I know this is a romance but my favorite part was the relationship between the sisters. Funny, witty, and comfortable is how I'd describe it.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I recommend this novel!
“You two have a vibe”
“Like we want to smother each other with a pillow?”
“Like you should get married”
In my experience the following are things that all Jill Shalvis books contain:
* The best, most endearing characters
* Witty banter and laugh out loud antics
* Lovable fur-babies
* Happily ever afters
I love all of Jill’s books so much and The Summer Escape is everything I hoped for and more!
It’s hard to say which part of this book I liked best -- Anna, because she is vulnerable even when she doesn’t want to be; Owen, my favorite new book boyfriend; Wendy and Hayden for being the best side characters ever; or Turbo, Clawdia and Jennifur, because all stories need adorably named pets. If I had to pick though, I actually think my favorite part was the names Jill came up with for Wendy and Hayden’s triplets: Buffy, Cordelia, Willow; Blanche, Rose, Dorthy and Wilma Betty, Pebbles just to name a few. This story has it all, family love, intrigue, a treasure hunt and a beautiful happily ever after.
The story begins when Anna and her sister Wendy discover a rare coin among their deceased father’s belongings. The coin, it turns out, is connected to a million dollar necklace (which was also stolen) belonging to Owen’s precious Aunt Ruby. Both Owen and Anna vow to find and return the necklace but while Owen is convinced that Anna’s father has something to do with the heist Anna is trying to clear her father’s name. Through all the twists and turns Anna and Owen’s quest for the necklace leads them down many different paths -- the most important being the one that leads them to each other.
This book was silly and sweet and so well written. Anna and Owen’s chemistry was evident from the start and I couldn’t wait for them to fall for each other. I also loved the relationship between Anna and Wendy. Their devotion to one another as sisters and as best friends is so beautiful.
I highly recommend The Summer Escape and all Jill Shalvis books! Her series are some of my absolute favorites!
JIll Shalvis has done it again with a story full of heart, mystery, intrigue and humor. I fell in love with the characters in this book. They were all so genuine. The camaraderie of Anna and Wendy and their love for one another; now that they were all they had of their family. Then, Wendy's husband was a great foil for the two women; and add in Wendy's pregnancy on the way. The mystery comes into play when they find a rare coin in a box of their father's belongings. Then there are questions and accusations surrounding the coin.
I loved how this story flowed and the chemistry between Anna and Owen was undeniable. The characters have such depth. I like how this story touches on so many different facets of life and relationships. The parts where we learn about Ruby and her dementia were heartbreaking as so many people deal with this on a daily basis and can't afford to have round-the-clock caregivers for their loved ones. This is a wonderful story!
When I started this book, I wasn’t sure about it. But, as I continued reading, I couldn’t put it down. The characters were fascinating, funny, and unique. Anna, along with her VERY pregnant sister, Wendy, had to come to terms with their father’s history and how that would affect his legacy. Owen had to deal with his aunt’s illness and hoped to bring her some joy in finding her stolen items. While the mystery of finding her stolen property brought Anna and Owen together, would finding the answers tear them apart or bring them together?
This book is a little different than the others I have read in the Sunrise Cove series; those tend to have more of a quirky small town/neighbors vibe, and there are several recurring characters and familiar places. I didn’t recognize these characters from past books, and it was a slightly different type of story….but different in a VERY good way.
Central to this story is a mystery - a mystery of stolen coins/jewelry, and whether or not the main character’s father was the thief. Anna’s father recently passed away after struggling with an illness that he also kept from his daughters, so they are questioning what they knew about him. Anna’s sister Wendy is home bound and pregnant with triplets…and a relative of the woman missing the jewels shows up asking for Anna’s help in finding them.
I like that the characters don’t take things too seriously - there is a lot of sarcasm and joking in the dialogue. I also loved the bond between the sisters, and that even through their struggles, their love is apparent. And the connection between Anna and Owen is undeniable.
I didn’t want to put this one down - I loved the story, and the characters.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley; all opinions are my own.
Thank you Net Galley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have always been a Jill Shalvis fan and this book did not disappoint. I loved it! It had a little bit of everything. ..romance, mystery, and comedy.
Anna Moore is a private investigator who stumbles on a valuable coin in her deceased father's belongings. It turns out this coin was part of a collection that been stolen about a decade ago. Enter Owen Harris the grand-nephew of the women the coin collection had belonged to. They decide to join together to solve the mystery of how her father came to be in possession of the coin and where the rest of the collection might be. Add into the mix Anna's wildly funny older sister, Wendy, who is on bed rest while awaiting the arrival of her triplet daughters. There is so much to unravel in this book. The dynamic of the sister's relationship is hilarious. I love Wendy and her no-nonsense approach to dealing with her more serious sister. I was laughing out loud many times. Owen is just the sweetest and he and Anna have to work together while fighting their attraction for each other. They both claim to be non-relationship worthy people. Can that change?
I highly recommend this book.
This was a good read. Anna is dared by her homebound sister who is carrying triplets to find the value of a coin that was discovered in their Dad's belongings. and so the adventure begins. Finding out that their Dad had a past was hard for Anna. With the help of Owen, Wendy, Hayden and friends, she faced it. Both Owen and Hayden sound like dreams! I am sure guys like that really exist, but not in my world sadly. I really liked how caring Owen was toward his great aunt. The quips and one liners really cracked me up. I recommend this for a good summer read. thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy.
This is a really cute book, mystery romance, suspense and humor all rolled up in this book. The dialogue between the sister is fun and sometimes hysterical. The large dog, who is afraid of everything, is so much fun. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Anna and Owen are wonderful characters. I laughed so hard while reading the book. There’s mystery and angst. This is a great romantic story. Anna’s sister Wendy is a hoot. The writing flows smoothly. It’s a great book.
This a one of my go-to authors when I need a pick-me-up. She always warms my soul with her female protagonists. The two sisters, Anna and Wendy, have a special relationship due to their mother’s untimely death. Anna is a Private investigator while Wendy is beached whale pregnant with triplets on bedrest. They maintain a snappy dialogue throughout with plenty of humor, sarcasm and wit. Wendy being the oldest tends to meddle, always trying to set Anna up with random guys and sometimes disregards boundaries altogether. Wendy’s husband is a patient saint tolerating his wife’s crazy cravings and busybody tendencies.
There’s a mystery surrounding a valuable coin found in their father’s possessions after his passing. It results in a partnership Anna never wanted with an adrenaline junkie. He claims the coin was stolen from his aunt. The tenuous relationship has no trust but their attraction simmers beneath. The missing treasure becomes larger than life and leads to life or death situations. It’s a feel good rom-com with steamy seductiveness in a stunning locale.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an advance reader’s e-proof of “The Summer Escape”, Sunrise Cove Series #6, by Jill Shalvis, Avon and HarperCollins, expected publication 06/11/2024. These are always all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily without compensation.
When Anna Moore discovers that a coin she has recovered was allegedly stolen by her father it becomes her mission to prove his innocence... which then leads to a exhilarating cross country trip with a very handsome adventurer named Owen Harris. A trip that completely changes the course of her very predictable life... in a very good way!
The Summer Escape is an entertaining and funny adventure that is certain to keep you enthralled from start to finish! These two were quite entertaining and also quite different people, where Owen is always chasing adventure our heroine Anna is usually trying to avoid it. Which means when you throw those two type of folks together on an excursion you're bound to get some banter and laughs... and boy did we ever! I loved following these two through the pages, they made me smile till my face hurt and gave my heartstrings a nice little workout!
If you have never read a romance by this author I highly suggest you remedy that, and The Summer Escape is a good place to start, what you find waiting for you between the pages here is bound to turn you into a fan of hers! Nobody does romance quite like Ms. Shalvis!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the ARC.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars
An adorable romance with a dash of mystery from Jill Shalvis. We return to Sunrise Cove and follow private investigator Anna Moore. When Anna’s heavily pregnant sister, Wendy, convinces her to clear her late father of a jewelry heist. This leads her to Owen Harris, a hot, mysterious adventure junkie. The two decide to work together and fall for each other while going on a wild quest.
This was so fun and different from the previous Sunrise Cove books. I loved the mystery element. We get two sweet romances and an excellent sister relationship. Another excellent romance from Shalvis.
ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book about even the toughest needing to find someone. It's about overcoming previous trauma and making a life for yourself. It's about finding your person.
I laughed, I cried...so good!
Classic Shalvis with a twist of danger this time.
PI Anna forms an unlikely alliance with dashing Owen to solve the mystery of his aunt's jewels and coins. What starts out as an unlikely pairing turns into a fun-filled and dangerous journey. Finding the missing items and falling in love isn't easy to do. Add in the fact that Anna's sister Wendy is about to give birth to triplets, and you have - like I said - a classic Shalvis story.
Watching her characters fall in love is always funny, and Shalvis injects enough snark, witty banter, and genuine angst on both the hero and heroine's parts, that it;'s always fun to see who falls first.
Thanks to Netgalley for a sneak peek at yet another winner from Jill.
