I really appreciated the growth in this couple. Usually I am not a fan of second chance romance, but Olivia and Sammy were just so real and raw! And usually I hate 3rd act break ups... but this really didn't feel like one! It was simply space so they could become the people they needed to be and COMMUNICATING ABOUT IT!!! For once the couple TALKED to each other!! I also really appreciated how it wrapped everyone's story up in a nice bow!!
Diving into If We Were Perfect felt like snuggling into a soft, cozy blanket with a few unpleasant patches. Olivia and Sammy's story had all the elements of a fun second-chance romance: an unexpected roommate scenario, plenty of tension, and that delightful angst we all crave. Sammy, with his adorable culinary talents and irresistible personality, stole the stage!
However, I found myself hoping the characters had more depth. Olivia's perfectionism was occasionally aggravating, and while their banter was amusing, I hoped to see more of their personal growth. The ending was a frenzy of events that felt rushed, leaving me seeking a more satisfying conclusion. Despite some minor setbacks, I quite loved this read. Ana Huang's ability to create intriguing romances keeps me coming back for more, and I can't wait to see where the series goes next!
This was the first book I read by this author. Although this was the 4th book I’m the series, it’s considered a standalone. I was not a fan of the third person writing. The conflict between the MMC and FMC was underwhelming. I can appreciate the second chance at love though. After every thing they put each other through, they finally got their happy ending
Love the angst from a second chance romance!! And the close proximity 🤌🏼🤌🏼 this was an enjoyable read!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for giving me the opportunity to read If We Were Perfect.
It was a cute romance. I liked the characters and the plot was interesting in a good way.
I very much enjoyed this story by Ana Huang, just the second I have read from this author. As the first one was a mafia type of book, this story, featuring baker Sammy and Olivia, a woman who is forced to hide part of herself due to a difficult Asian parentage.., was quite different. Overall, I liked the look into an Asian family (and saw similarities in my upbringing in an Asian family). There were moments of humor and some angst though I thought that the issues the couple faced towards the end was quite overdone. That said, I look forward to reading more books by this author!

This one pains me a little because I love Ana Huang but I feel like this second chance romance didn’t need to turn into a third. Was the 3rd act breakup necessary when they started off a mess? Evil cousin was a bit much too in my opinion.. Overall enjoyed it enough though but like other books of hers more. Might read the other ones in the series.
I'm new to Anna Huang books and as a first book of hers to read i have to say i will quickly be purchasing all her others to dive right in. I loved Sammy and Olivia and their whole dynamic as a couple and really wanted the best for them.
Highly recommend!
Sammy and Olivia have been broken up for years but their chemistry is undeniable when they are brought back together. When Olivia's apartment floods, she asks Sammy for help and ends up temporarily moving in with him. Olivia has spent their time apart focused on her career, while Sammy has never gotten over her. The four book in this series did not disappoint as a forced proximity, second chance romance.
It took me a while to read this one and that was not the case with her other books. It was a good book, but not as good as the Twisted series.
This steamy second-chance romance follows Olivia and Sammy, two exes who find themselves living under the same roof after an unexpected apartment flood. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their journey from past heartbreak to rekindled love is filled with emotional moments that tug at your heartstrings.
Huang’s writing is witty and engaging, making it easy to root for Olivia and Sammy as they navigate their complicated feelings. The mix of humor, romance, and heartfelt moments creates a perfect balance that keeps you hooked from start to finish. If you love stories about second chances, personal growth, and sizzling romance, “If We Were Perfect” is a must-read!
I have read several of Ana Huang's books and was really excited to get to read this one. This was one of her earlier books, prior to the Twisted series. I enjoyed this one, but maybe just not as much as the others. Still a win and still a wonderful lesson that love doesn't have to be perfect.
Ironically, this was not a perfect romance but actually, that was the whole point of the novel. You don't have to be perfect and love won't be either! Ana Huang's debut series does show its colors as well.... debut writing. The writing is a bit juvenile lacking the descriptive language she's known to possess in her later novels and the romance is a bit cliche resonant of the early-New Adult novels she grew up reading so that makes this series a bit dated for the current generation of the romance audience. However, the growth is nice to see and dedicated AH fans will clamor for the pretty new editions, I'm sure!
This book was so good! Each page had me wanting to read more and more. I am excited to read more from this author!

“I realized you didn’t ruin my life. You ruined me for other women”
Honestly you could stick any Ana huang book infront of me and I’ll read it, her books are so fun to read and I eat them up every time!!!! This book especially was so cute, mind you I’m not a big fan of the second chance romance trope but Ana executed it perfectly here! The banter, angst, and pining seen between Olivia and Sammy alone was worth this rating. I think they both definitely made mistakes in their relationship, but coming to terms with their faults and learning from them to become better people than they were before, not just for themselves but for eachother, was what really had me tearing up. They both suffered in their own way and deserved to be happy and loved wholly and unconditionally and that’s what I saw here. Overall this book was AMAZING, and I definitely recommend it!!

Ana you’re a second chance romance baddie! This was soooo cute! I loved getting to see a character like Olivia, who I see so much of myself in, get her happy ending without having to compromise her goals or her career. In all I would say I liked this series, especially given the fact that Ana is one of my favourite authors, it was amazing to see how her writing has improved and grown.
I was very pleasantly surprised by these books. Ana Huang seems to be everywhere these days and her books have that Colleen Hoover, self-published look about them, so I was skeptical going in, but within the first few pages, I realized Huang's writing and character development are MUCH better than Hoover's. Is it all a little bit melodramatic? Sure, but it adds to the sexual tension, and keeps you reading.
Sammy and Olivia met on a study abroad program when they were just barely adults, and fell in love. They broke up very badly when Olivia couldn't bring herself to stand up to her mom's elitist expectations, and support Sammy, who wanted to be a baker. For years they have been circling around each other at mutual friends' events, and then finally they end up in the same city. It's clear from the beginning that Sammy has it bad for Olivia--he helps her out when he really didn't have to. When her apartment floods, he offers to let her live with him. They reestablish a friendship, and then become lovers again. Not only is there chemistry on fire, they are fun and funny together. Huang makes us root for them, which is why the third act (and 3.5) breakups were a bit much. I like a little "will they/won't they," but I don't like it when one of the characters just suddenly turns into a jerk for a plot device. That's my only qualm with this book that I otherwise really enjoyed. I'll definitely be picking up more of her books.

Another Ana Huang classic! She knows how to get me hooked from the beginning. A cute, low-stress second chance romance that you could read in one afternoon. I loved it and will keep coming back for more!
Probably the best book of the series (but I really wasn't a fan of the first 2 so that really isn't saying much). It involves a second/third chance love and wraps up some of the lives of other characters from previous books in this series. Although they say you don't need to read this one in order, I found that I appreciated seeing the past characters and their stories so I would suggest reading them in order (ie this one last). Excited to read more by this author since this was my first time reading her work :) Thank you Sourcebooks/Bloom Books and NetGalley for the ARC.
