A sheer joy, this looks at a moth determined to nosh down on the posh red silk frock an opera singer's currently wearing. No, he's not the kind of moth to be put off by all the dazzling lights and spotlights in the theatre, not where such a dress is concerned – but he's not going to have it all his own way. For there's a twanging, bashing, tooting orchestra – complete with arm-flapping conductor – in his flightpath.
This was pleasant enough before the end moral, for it's bound to make young readers laugh. I'd advise them to tackle the main piece before the educational flaps concerning all the musical instruments and terms the story uses, as they're secondary to seeing the plight of the poor critter, who – like all moths – doesn't exactly look fun to be around, but just has to be rooted for on this quest. It's a lively verse story, and so it was only when the whole thing was over that I realised he should have been put off by the lights, but that would have only confused the simple story of the go-getting underdog. For such a well-sustained narrative poem, with at least one laugh-out-loud, near-slapstick moment, this has to be considered. If it's anything less than five stars, the difference is one of those butterfly wing-flaps a very long way away.
This was such a funny book to read!
I loved the story being told in rhymes and the story itself was entertaining too. The message to take away from the book is about not giving up no matter the obstacles in your way. There were educational moments to teach readers about musical instruments too which was a nice addition to the story. While I’m not a fan of moths, I was cheering the main character on to the end.
This is a super cute story about a ravenous moth who spies his holy grail food: a dazzling red gown. Unfortunately, it’s being worn at the time by an opera singer. Marvin the Moth decides to chase after his prize, but he gets knocked about and inadvertently beaten up by the orchestra instruments and the lady in red herself. Will Marvin keep trying??
There’s a great message here to not give up and to keep trying when it seems like all is lost. Kids will also learn about many orchestra instruments, as well as the definitions of maestro and soprano. It’s a clever way to introduce children to music.
My favorite part is at the beginning—make sure to check out the moths’ menu. It’s hysterically funny.

I didn't know what A Bite to Remember was about as I try not to read the book descriptions and the cover gives very little away. I was pleasantly surprised at the musical definitions and the story itself. Marvin's perseverance is awe-inspiring and you want to cheer that little moth on throughout the book.

A bite to remember is a wonderful story about a little moth named Marvin and his tenacious journey eat the red silk dress. While on the way to completing his goal, he comes across many challenges and sometimes humorous roadblocks that prevent him from getting the dress; but still he journey's on! This is a wonderful and cute story about not letting anything stop you from reaching your goals, and that sticking to it will ultimately pay off!
This little 50 page picture book is just perfect for my elementary-aged children and they get to learn all about the different members of an orchestra while following Marvin on his journey! The book teaches children the name and general use for the instruments and even talks about the conductor and different types of choirs! This is fabulous because the story takes place in an opera house. Each page is full of little details that will delight children and parents alike, and I especially like the cute little food puns and nods to classic operas throughout the book ;) The artwork was also really cute and kept my children engaged in the story :)
If you are music-minded parent who wants their children to learn the value of stick-to-it-tiveness while also learning about the orchestra, then A Bite to Remember will be the perfect book for your family :)
This cute story follows Marvin the moth on the search for his favorite food with some hilarious consequences. Great book for elementary schoolers as lots of rhyming words are provided.
