This was a quick and easy audiobook about a magical system with two girls who are discovering themselves with magic. It was intreasting especially for a middle grade as it had multiple aspects that reflected common concerns in the real world

The start of a magical journey that will go far!

We grew up reading the Worst Witch so the thought of reading the first book of a brand new series about teenage witches as they grow into their powers appealed to us. We have not been disappointed.

When Scarlett's parents introduce her to her new babysitter, Foxglove, she starts to notice that there is something different about her almost immediately. Strange things start to happen and then when Foxglove leaves her journal behind and Scarlett decides to bake a cake from a recipe in there, she has no idea how her world is about to change.

Scarlett discovers that Foxglove is a witch and to her shock, that she is too. Foxglove has plenty to teach her about the magical world and introduces her to the Moonlight Magic Club, a group of young junior witches going through their training and badges (much like Brownies with a twist) and becoming the best of friends as they do so. Determined to help Moonlight stay safe from wild magic, they meet in a tardis-like treehouse and fly around on wooden items enchanted to transport them to their destinations.

This series shows a great deal of promise and will appeal to readers age 7-9. Fans of the Worst Witch and Sabrina the Teenage Witch will love this book. It has a story that holds attention and is concise enough to make it accessible to newly confident readers and is the perfect subject matter to captivate and enchant our little ones. Joining Scarlett at the start of her journey makes the story even more special and we are looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

We predict this team of witches will go far, and we can't resist a talking cat. Right, we are off to grab a rocking chair to fly to the bookshop on so that we can buy the next in the series!

I was going to say that I wish I was young again - but hey, we don't need to be a certain age to enjoy a really good book - not only that - this is the first book of what's going to be an amazing new series!

This is the sort of book series that I'd have devoured when I was younger and can see this becoming a favourite among the younger teen readers.

The writing is engaging and the chapters are nice and short, making this easy to fit in another chapter before bed.

I love the witchy theme and it's brilliant to see the very start of the journey rather than us diving straight in at a point where the main character has already found their powers.

When her quirky, cool neighbour turns up to babysit Scarlett, strange things start to happen and she's sure there's something odd about her cat.
The next day, Scarlett finds Foxglove's journal and decides to make her a cake from a recipe she finds in it....but there's definitely some strange ingredients involved!...

The girls were so relatable and likable and of course I loved Pirate the cat.

The magical world is only just touched on in this book as an introduction - but I'm excited to see how this will develop and also to watch the girls as they all learn more about their powers.
