This is a picture book and so much more. An ideal sharing book to encourage talk about family, culture and heritage, and belonging and what it means to belong.
Superb.

Nia and her siblings received an extensive explanation of the 7 principles of Kwanzaa. This is a great educational tool for our children.

This is a nice look at how the seven principles of Kwanzaa - unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith - are applied and celebrated EVERY SINGLE DAY, not just during the last week of the year. The book is made even more delightful by Cameron Wilson's vivid artwork.

As an educator, I appreciate how this book effortlessly weaves educational content with a compelling story. I knew nothing about Kwanzaa and I thought a children's book might be a good way to learn. I could have just read the Wiki article Kwanzaa - Wikipedia, but this was more fun - and had very well behaved children, behaving very well! It was beautifully drawn and informative, if a little earnest and aspirational.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-Arc of this interesting book.

Loved this book!! I can't wait to add it to my classroom library! The illustrations are vibrant and engaging and the colors were beautiful. I loved the description of how to keep the principles of Kwanzaa all year long and the pronunciation guide for each word was very helpful. Thank you for letting me preview this book, I will definitely be looking for it to share with my class.

I received an electronic ARC from Keys to College LLC through NetGalley.
Nia takes readers through the seven principles of Kwanzaa and models how her family uses them every day as part of their lives. I appreciate the authors sharing how to pronounce each one and providing a brief definition that elementary level readers will understand. Following each definition, a brief paragraph or two shows how Nia and other family members live out the principle. The illustrations are simple and connected to the text. An excellent book for libraries and for families who want to learn more. It can be used as a pattern/model for incorporating into family life and relationships.
