Nightfall by Penelope Douglas did not disappoint !
It was just as good as the previous ones from the series and I recommend it. Check for trigger warnings too!
not my favorite sadly. i just can't seem to click with penelope douglas' writing. i think it just sadly isn't for me.
a fantastic finish to a great series!! Penelope Douglas KILLLLED this one. will and emery are everything to me - they had an amazing connection and i loved their story!
the devil's night series is one I have read from start to finish twice already with nightfall being my favorite of the bunch. it was so exciting to hear that the books would be republished with bonus! content! it could never a bad thing to get to be with your favorite characters again.

considering the success of this series, I would imagine it'd be intimidating to write the final book that needs to conclude it all. luckily, penelope more than delivered with will and emory. from start to finish, this book was crazy addicting and never once felt like over 700 pages. as the story moved through various timelines, wrapping up mysteries and storylines that have been present since the very first book, I was engaged the entire time. this has become a comfort book and series for me.
and the addition of getting the insight as to how the four horsemen — michael, kai, damon and will — came to be served as a wonderful wrap up. even in those early days of their group, you could sense the strength of the dynamics they were forming, while dysfunctional at times. plus, the contrast of nightfall's new cover is a stunner.
thanks to penelope douglas and berkley for this eARC.
✨“I think that’s why I’ve always liked this time of day best. People hide in the dark. They quench their thirsts in the dark. They build their secrets in the dark. We’re more ourselves here than anywhere else. I get to be me...” he swallowed, staring at me, “when nightfall is coming.” ✨
Wow what a book!! So many things happened and I loved it all. I was so ready to finally be in Will’s head and meet the Emory that had a hold on him so for long. I had so many emotions throughout the book, I was sad and crying, to happy and laughing and pulling my hair the next moment wondering what would come next. I was all over the place. 😂 Which honestly that’s the best (in my opinion) when reading a book. 🤣👌🏻
✨“The only time I ever loved my life was when I was with you.”✨
I really liked Will and Emory’s relationship, they were opposites but when Em finally let him in, they worked so good together. Will wanting Em to be dominant and take what she wants?? Yeah that was nice to read too .😈
This book wasn’t JUST about Will and Emory, it was about the whole group too and this whole family they created with each other was just amazing. I’ll never regret reading this series and I’m so happy to know all these characters now. 🥹🥹 Oh and I’m just gonna say… the spice in here was delicious and unexpected in the best way. 😅😏😮💨
FINALLY I get to finish the Devil's Night series! I was so excited to see this, and to see that this ends with Will and Emmy. It's really important to read the previous books in this series as it's a lot of history on these two and it's harder to understand or even care about them if you have no prior experience with them. This was a great end to the series!
I keep trying Penelope Douglas books, hoping this will be the one for me. I didn’t realize this was the fourth in the series. The author recommends in a note within the text that this series be read in order, oops! I did read chapter 1 (3%) and the writing style is consistent and the pacing feels consistent to her other books, so fans should be pleased, probably a four to five star considering the fanbase is rabid. ;-)
We’ll try again. :-)
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.
Nightfall is the last book in the Devils Night series and Penelope saved the best for last. Will and Emory’s story is heart wrenching and spans high school into adulthood. Will was obsessed with Emmy, the girl who’s broken and has a deep well of secrets. His obsessed was palatable. You could feel the pining and yearning. Hes a flawed character but you can’t help loving him. Emmy is one of Penelope’s best female characters. She was so easy to relate to and her chapters often reduced me to tears.
I’m a huge lover of second chance romance. I found it very realistic for them to not even be in touch given the events of their past. Will becomes self destructive and Emmy ends with a successful career until she’s put back in Wills path. Just another amazing book by Penelope in what’s a long line up.
