"Daughters, though. Daughters are different."

This gripping thriller takes place in the small town of Mirror Lake, two hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Hazel is brought back to her home town, which is currently experiencing a drought, to attend her father's memorial service. The lack of precipitation has reduced the water levels in the lake which has led to years of drowned memories (evidence?) to surface. These findings are now pointing to what could have driven Hazel's mother to abandon her all of those years ago...

I love Megan Miranda's books, they are always filled with the right amount of intensity, chilling details and plot twists to keep me hooked. The strained family dynamic added to the mystery surrounding the Holt family. I also enjoyed the use of weather to set the stage for each chapter. It was an intriguing way to keep me guessing on what was to come next.

Fans of Megan Miranda will not be disappointed.

I really liked it! I was all in by the end of the first chapter. It’s fast paced. It twists. Small town politics/history and family dynamics keep the intrigue heightened to the very end. The story moves along quickly with lots of possible culprits and many hold your breath moments. I started in the morning and couldn’t head to bed without finishing it. This was a couldn’t put it down, one day read, for me.
Thank You to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Canada, and Megan Miranda for the opportunity to enjoy reading this ARC.

A very dark thriller-suspense novel.

Perry Holt left his home and everything in it to Hazel Sharp. His sons Gage & Caden have struggled to accept Hazel as their sister from her arrival when Perry married Hazel's mother. Hazel's mother left her behind when she left Perry. Characters are complex people hiding secrets. Months without rain have drained the lake revealing abandoned cars at the bottom. One car is found directly behind Hazels' inheritance.

The plot moved quickly with constant twists and turns. Who is trustworthy? Who is truthful? Wo wants Hazel dead?

A town about to boil over.
A game gone too far.
Everyone is watching everyone.
They've all got secrets, their own, someone else's.. or both.
They hold them close, the people are all connected in one way or another.

I felt this story as it unfolded, those hot summer days spent at the water, the sibling drama, and sadness for the .... Well, you'll see.
This book gave me chills too many times to count, it was creepy and intense. No one is what I thought they were. I loved the layers, the people and their deep backgrounds. I loved that I could feel the tension. This was a five star read for me and one I'll definitely be recommending to anyone who will listen. I sincerely hope someone out there turns this into a mini series so I can relive it with the eyes on the outside of my head. I went in blind, I highly recommend that because wow what a ride!!

ARC provided by NetGalley and the author in exchange for an honest review.

MEGAN. MIRANDA. Just keeps on absolutely killing it with her psychological thrillers!! As an avid Megan Miranda reader, I can say without a doubt that she just keeps on getting better. This was an EASY 5+ stars.

This book follows Hazel, as she returns to her hometown following the death of her father. Some things don’t seem quite right, and the more she finds out, the more questions she has. This book genuinely gave me the creeps reading it alone in the dark, and I guessed who the “villain” was wrong multiple times. Sometimes with this genre it can seem like once you’ve read one that you’ve read them all, but this one will keep you guessing right til the end!

4/5 stars. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put this book down. I finished reading it in one sitting. This book is released April 9, 2024. Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada, Megan Miranda and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

This was my first book by Megan Miranda, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but after seeing the hype for her books, I was so excited for this one! Long story short, I already purchased several other books of hers after reading “Daughter of Mine”, which hopefully says something!

This book is not a fast paced thriller. Instead, it’s tense, moody and atmospheric. This book truly immersed me into the scene and story and kept building until the very end. Hazel returns to the small town of Mirror Lake after a decade of being mostly away due to the death of her father, who was a cop. This coincides with a rare drought. Low water levels bring many secrets to the surface, which the town would have rather left in the past.

I really enjoyed this book and will give it 4.5/5 stars ⭐️! I did predict the ending pretty early on in the book, but it didn’t really take anything away because I found this story was more about the journey than the destination.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Megan Miranda ranks in my top 5 thriller writers (my favourite being All the Missing Girls). And she once again proved to me why she’s one of the greatest. I was #gifted Daughter of Mine from @simonandschuster.ca, S&S Marsue Rucci Books and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. The book will be released April 9, 2024 and I was so excited to read it, so I dug into right away.

The story follows Hazel Sharp, who returns to her childhood home in Mirror Lake after her father, the town’s longtime local detective passes away. She’s Inheriting her family home, back in a town she left behind and a drought is causing water levels to drop in the lake. And that’s just the start of uncovering some secrets somebody wants to keep buried – including her mother’s disappearance. But who has something to hide?

As always, Miranda knows how to hook you, and her characters are real and raw. As a seasoned thriller reader, I started overthinking each interaction, thinking I didn’t trust those we should, or look deeper into the interactions of those we shouldn’t trust. But that to me, is the greatest gift a good writer can give you – and it kept me on my toes, and turning the pages. I questioned everything. I trusted no one and only when Miranda was ready, did she reveal the truth and everything – and everyone – revealed themselves.

A five-star book is one that leaves you thinking you know where you’re going, only to suddenly realize that the author’s master misdirection was in charge the whole time. I loved the character development. The character development and the perfect way the plot took me on a journey, built tension, made me gasp out loud and when the truth was finally revealed, it was shocking. And I enjoyed every page-turning moment.

So, this was a rollercoaster filled with so many emotions. Everyone had a secret so it was impossible to trust anyone. This was probably one of the best thrillers i have read in a long time. Then again, i always enjoy Megan Miranda's stories..

A definite must read

Thank you Simon and Schuster Canada as well as Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and aren't influenced by anyone else

There is a very good chance Daughter of Mine will be one of my favourite books this year.

Megan Miranda has a way of pulling you in. I love the description in her books and the way you can so vividly picture every moment. It was a slow burn but it worked so well and I can honestly say I did not see that ending coming and I loved it so much.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and I have to somehow try to sleep after finishing this.

Absolutely explosive. Creepy and eerie from page 1. It seems like every chapter unearths a new secret you didn’t see coming. No one is who you think they are and this book is just fire start to finish. Characters that were personable combined with a realistic and gritty storyline give this book such depth it feels like you are immersed in the story. This is one of those book you hate to finish because it will be over. This author regularily hits a home run and this is definitely a home run. I absolutely loved it. A rollercoaster is both suspense and emotion. Love it

I’m seriously beginning to question myself. Where have I been living? Under a rock, obviously. I just read my first Megan Miranda book last week and I absolutely loved it! Daughter of Mine is one of those books I’m going to be thinking about for a very long time. I honestly can’t tell you the last time I had a book impress upon me so much that I dreamt about it! Yeah, it’s that good.

The Good:
Can I just say everything? From the characters, to that way the story unfolded, to the feelings I was left with after each chapter, I loved it all. Hazel was a fantastic MC. Everything about her felt honest, raw and real. She’s the type of character you connect with right away, and you are biting your nails the whole way through, hoping they survive. I was constantly questioning everything. Who can I trust? Who’s telling the truth? How obvious is too obvious? Maybe the obvious is the truth? So many thoughts, but I didn’t see the ending playing out the way it did. I was caught off guard, but I loved it.

The Bad:
Nope, got nothing for you.

The Mentionable:
Like most thrillers, trigger warnings abound: Lanuage, alcohol consumption, drug use, overdose, drowning, child abandonment, someone falls to their death, gun violence, loss of parents, heart attack, theft, sociopathic tendencies, breaking and entering, close door sex scenes, infidelity, bike accident, murder, and bullying.

If you are a thriller fan then you definitely need to check this one out. If you’re not a thriller fan, well now’s the time to become one! Grab yourself a copy on release day, April 9th.

Huge thank you to Simon and Schusterfor the gifted eArc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

this story drew me in from the first chapter and i had to know what was going to happen. it’s an intense thriller that also focuses on family dynamics within a small town. the main character never really knows who can be trusted which keeps you guessing the whole time. i did feel like the ending was a bit rushed, but overall this was a great time!

For a Megan Miranda novel this is really fast paced. The story follows Hazel returning home after her fathers death.

Upon returning home Hazel begins to uncover why her father left the house to her and not her brothers.

I really enjoyed this one I’m not a huge Megan Miranda fan (I enjoy her books but usually find them to be a little slow) but the synopsis of this book sounded really good. I was hooked from the first page and read the book in about 24 hours.

I rated it as 4 stars because I found the ending to be slightly rushed. Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the arc.

SECRETS!!!

in Daughter of Mine, Megan Miranda weaves a slow, complex tale fraught with misdirection and deception.

Out of the blue, Hazel Sharp's mother disappeared one day, wiping out her husband's bank accounts and leaving Hazel a hasty note stating that she hoped that one day Hazel would forgive her.

Years later, Hazel is shocked to find that her stepfather left the family home to her alone, disinheriting his own sons.

On top of that, Hazel's childhood best friend, Jamie, disappears - also leaving behind a young daughter. The body count in the small resort town of Mirror Lake starts to mount while Hazel conducts her own investigation into her stepfather's motives for leaving her the family home.

Hazel's childhood crush and neighbour, Nico, helps her sort through the clues. (I enjoyed all the yearning chemistry between these two characters!)

Despite all the masterful misdirection by the author, I did suspect the actual culprit in this slow sizzle thriller, but I couldn't figure out the motive.

Those last few action packed chapters sped by - a marked departure from the relentlessly slow build up throughout the first three quarters of the novel. I didn't want to put this book down and stayed up until four in the morning to finish it!

Nothing made sense - until the end, when everything fell horrifyingly into place.

I'm rating this one a 5 out of 5 well-deserved stars. My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Well done!

Thank you so much to netgalley and publisher for the chance to read this absolute masterpiece of a book!

I was fortunate to receive an e-arc of this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster.

What an incredibly gripping novel. While the beginning was a little slow I reached a point where I couldn't put it down and needed to know what would happen next.

I loved the different dynamics of the characters relationships. They added a more real world feel of a small town to the story for me.

The date, time and precipitation at the beginning of each chapter added such a nice touch to the overall plot and really backed up the main storyline in such a subtle way.

One minor detail at the end felt a little lacking to me so 4.75⭐️

Certain authors, like Megan Miranda, have a permanent spot on my reading list. Her forte lies in crafting fast-paced mystery thrillers, making her a go-to for easy reads. When I received notice of her new, upcoming book, I started it right away. Is this one on your list?💁🏻‍♀️

Daughter of Mine follows the story of Hazel Sharpe as she returns to her hometown for her adopted father’s funeral, triggering memories and unearthing secrets of her mother’s disappearance. When Hazel was young, her mother disappeared one night, leaving behind a cryptic note for her daughter. Hazel knew only what she was told. That her mother was a thief and con-woman and didn’t think twice to leave Hazel behind to save herself. As Hazel returns home many years later, the memories and secrets come to the surface. What really happened to her mother? Did she just leave or was there another reason?🤔

While appreciating the stunning cover, I must admit that this one unfolded as a slow paced and predictable mystery. Despite figuring out the plot midway, it was a great companion on a delayed flight, for which I’m grateful. Although not a personal favourite, this author is widely loved and I encourage you to pick it up when it publishes in April. Grateful for the opportunity to read it, even if it didn’t become a personal favourite. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to @simonschusterca for the opportunity to read this book in advance of its publication on April 9, 2024!

I always enjoy Megan Miranda. I found this book to have a slow start. But by the end I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put it down. You will definitely be suspecting everyone in this small town. Megan will have you changing your guess every chapter!

Hazel Sharp returns to her small hometown after her father dies and what she finds waiting for her is nothing but secrets to unravel about her family’s dark past.

I always enjoy Megan Miranda’s books and was super pumped when I got this newest book as an ARC — I thoroughly enjoyed this book—I was sucked into this dark and twisted mystery— the information is revealed at a good pace and everything fits together like a perfect puzzle. Full of well-built suspense — I couldn`t stop reading — and finished it over one day. Everyone is suspect and no one is safe!

This book is a quick, high-tension read, a well-executed mystery--highly recommended!!

Many thanks to NetGalley Simon & Schuster Canada, and S&S/ Marysue Rucci Books for this ARC. This is my honest review
