Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this one. The artwork is really great. The story was fun and easy to follow. It was a pretty quick read. I am really looking forward to vol. 2.
I can't decide who I'd prefer her to end up with. At first, I wanted her to be with Iori, but after hearing Senos' explanation about the bento boxes, I feel bad for him and thought maybe they should see if there is still something between them. I need to know what Yuuki says to Seno!
I actually wish it was longer. I will just have to wait for Vol. 2!
Highly recommend!
3.5/5
Okaaaay so this volume just recently got released here in Italy, so I had to check it out through NetGalley first to see if it was worth the hype and the money.
And I ended up having mixed feelings about this one.
It started off great, the art is very pretty and I got the feeling there was a good rom-com story behind but at some point half way through it I lost interest somehow. I don't know what happened but I couldn't find the whole situation as appealing as the premise or beginning.
I will definitely need more volumes to understand if it's something I want to get invested in or not.
So far, it has my attention but it's not enough.
This was perfect. Everything about this was so good. It's written by the same mangaka as Waiting for Spring, which is also a manga series that I truly loved and binge read. I can see that being the same with this series too, I can't wait to read the next volume. It was the perfect start to a shoujo series, it reminds me of an OG shoujo and maybe that's why I liked it so much. The characters are really interesting and I can see them each having a great arc throughout the series. Definitely one of the best mangas that I read in 2023.
Thanks to #NetGalley for an e-copy of #HowIMetMySoulmate by Anashin to read and review.
Volume 1 of How I Met My Soulmate is pretty much a typical college/YA shoujo manga. Our heroine Yuuki is looking for companionship, but not anyone will do - she wants to find her soulmate. She meets an aloof stranger in a club, but appearances aren't everything. She also unexpectedly comes across her former first crush, but who's being honest and is any of them her soulmate?
As a first volume, it did a good job of establishing the background and plot, and I enjoyed some of the twists. However, it didn't click for me, mainly because Yuuki comes across as one-dimensional and a bit whiny in the beginning, as she isn't happy with her soulmate-less life. Her only interests and personality traits uncovered in this volume are wanting a soulmate, and doing things for people in hopes of finding that soulmate. The guys were a lot better defined as individuals.
Overall, if you're a fan of shoujo manga you might like this. The art is great, the cover is amazing and the plot keeps you invested in what's going to happen next. I might give the next volume a go to see if Yuuki gets more character development.
✨ Disclaimer ✨ I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I absolutely adore this manga. I already have the Japanese version, as I couldn't resist buying it before the English translation was released, but I'm so glad it's now available in English for all to read.
What first drew me to this manga was the beautiful art style. I've always been a fan of Anashin's work, though I have to admit I much prefer this genre over the previous sports romance 'Waiting For Spring.' I'm already sucked into the potential romance for this; the two main characters have such a cute dynamic and I'm so here for it!
I literally cannot wait to read the next volume in English when it's released here. I'll be buying it on day 1 for sure! I'm so glad this series was picked up for global release, the more shojo the better!
A pretty decent first volume! The characters were fleshed out enough so you can easily pinpoint their personalities & the drawing style was indeed wonderful!
I really enjoyed this book. We got to know the main characters pretty well and the story moves at a great pace.
The illustrations are gorgeous! I'm already excited to read volume 2!
I wasn’t sure how I felt in the beginning g of this manga. I really liked the Yuuki, the main character, and her mindset, but the dynamic between her and the leading man was so odd in the first chapter. Once the manga continued the story really flowed. I’m so excited to read the next volume to see what happens with Yuuki and her love life.
Huge thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics
How I Met My Soulmate follows twenty year old Yuuki, who’s a university student and longs for a soulmate. Together with her friend she goes out to a club, and meets Iori. Although their first meeting isn’t what she’d hope it would be, Iori turns out to be a friendly and nice guy who sets her up with other guys. Through a guy she’s set up with, she’s reunited with her first and only crush Seno. Whilst she’s looking for her soulmate, she’s getting closer and closer to Iori.
I thought it was a fun and entertaining first volume! It was nice to read a manga where the main character is a university student, and see her tackle new situations like clubbing and getting drunk, although a bit gullibly. I liked Iori, and how he and Yuuki got to know each other bit by bit, and how caring he was of her. I wasn’t a fan of Seno to begin with, and I’m still not really after the first volume. His explanations for his actions made me dislike him less, but he still pales in comparison to Iori. So far a fun manga with pretty artwork!
3.5 rounded down. I love how nostalgic this first volume feels! From page one, you immediately get the hopeless romantic vibes with the art and the writing and want to wish the FMC the best of luck on her journey to find her soulmate.😂 I don't often read shoujo anymore, but this setup and the artstyle brought me back to when I was younger and reading a lot! I like the characters and the potential, even if there is an immediate love triangle. I definitely would pick up volume two to see how things progress. I like how there are compelling reasons to like both love interests. I just wish there was a little more depth with the FMC too because I felt it was a bit convenient that she immediately had three characters who were attracted to her introduced in this volume.
This was super adorable. It starts off with our sweet young MC Yuuki. She is a lonely college student that wants to meet her soulmate (if she even has one since she’s not totally sure she does). She starts off going to a club with her friend where she has an interesting encounter with Ioki. From there Ioki agrees to help Yuuki find her soulmate and becomes a really sweet (that maybe has more than friendly feelings for her?). She also gets reacquainted with her young school age love. He was also a very interesting character but I feel a little sus of him, I’m worried he could hurt Yuuki, but I hope not. The budding friendship and romance was super adorable and I can’t wait to read the next installment especially with that little cliffhanger at the end.
Thank you for netgalley, the publishers, and the author and team that made this wonderful manga for the ARC I read.
How I Met My Soulmate 1 was my first ever manga and I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but after learning the proper way to read the story, I was enthralled. I read the entire volume in one sitting. The art was beautiful and the story was so sweet.
There was so much that I felt I had in common with Yuki. I can remember feeling the same way at many points in my life.
I can't wait to get my hands on volume 2. I know as soon as I do I will devour it as well.
Thank you to the author and Netgalley for this copy. All opinions are honest and my own.
This manga was so charming, I found myself smiling multiple times. Yuuki on her journey for love is a total sweetheart! Her love interests have dimension and the story was filled with plenty of cute moments, misunderstandings, longing and a dash of heat!
Also ends with the obligatory cliffhanger that is just making me want to rush out for Vol. 2
Would wholeheartedly recommend to those looking to be enchanted with a romance manga.
I did receive a copy from Netgalley for free in return for this honest review.
What a cute shojo manga! I love Yuuki's determination and kindness, and I love Iori's whole personality. He's got such fun dialogue. Very honest and dry. I feel like I don't really know him completely yet, but I'm excited to get to know him better in future volumes.
All the characters are three-dimensional and have very distinct personalities desires, and I feel for each and everyone one of them, even if I'm only really rooting for two of them. This manga is a light and airy romance that had me invested at page one.
Yuuki is 20 and trying to branch out and meet her soulmate. After a somewhat uncomfortable experience going clubbing, she meets Iori, who decides to help her in her quest for a soulmate. Thus ensues group dates and both Iori and Yuuki learning more about each other, even if the guise is still that Iori is helping out Yuuki. Overall, a light-hearted, cute manga with lovely art. Looking forward to future volumes to see how it all plays out.
How I Met My Soulmate by Anashin is an adorable manga that follows the university-aged protagonist Yuuki Honda who is exploring the dating scene by venturing to clubs and mixers. Yuuki meets 3 possible love interests throughout the manga each fulfilling a romantic wish for her. There are surprising secrets from the past that are revealed that make the reader question; which man is right for Yuuki?
The character progression in this manga is well done spanning over the entire work with each character getting aspects of their personality and past revealed in a thoughtful way. The art work for this manga is adorable and it is refreshing to read a story with a point of view from a college-aged cast. The exposition begins slowly, but the ending will leave you ready to read the next volume.
Omg how cute was this? I absolutely loved it!! I need the second volume asap, gotta know what happens next 🥹
I just love Anashin’s manga style. I loved Waiting for Spring and I definitely enjoyed this one as well. So far the characters are really likable. I just know it’s going to take a lonnnnng time and a lottttttt of books for her to end up with her soulmate so I’m not sure if I’ll be continuing until the books are all released so I can just binge read them all at once.
I really felt the romance and love triangle build in this manga. I really contacted with the main female character and love the grumpy/sunshine romance that is building, Very good drawings and the manga flowed really well.
***I thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in return for an honest review***
Felt cliché, and many elements were repetitive. I wish the characters were more fleshed out in most shojo romances. All my stars go for the art and Iori-kun’s haircut <3
