It's a solid romance story, even if I do think 20 is too young to have her worrying like this. I'm curious about where it will go. I really enjoyed how Iori went from being a bit of a jerk to being protective over Yuuki as he learned more about her and watched her go through some rough emotions. Yuuki is a bit naive, but luckily, she has people to keep an eye on her and keep her safe. All of us don't want precious memories to be bad ones and also want to cling to the idea that it might be a misunderstanding.
I only just finished the first volume and I’m excited to read the next to see what happens in this cute love triangle! It’s a great storyline and all of the characters have enough development that you feel like you start to know a bit more about each of them yet some elements of their personalities or lives are still shrouded in some mystery. I’ll definitely be continuing this series to see where the story goes.
Love it! This will give you those romantic feelings you have been looking for in a manga. With only the first volume there is so much drama that you hope Yuuki finds her soulmate but who will it be?
Yuuki is a 20 yr old college student who has decided she wants to find her soulmate. It has been since middle school since she had a crush on someone and now wants to try again. Yuuki and her friend embark into the world of Japanese meetups and clubbing looking for their soulmates. Along the adventure she meets a scary boy who just happens to be like a protective big brother or could be her soulmate. She also meets a sweet 20 yr old who works with the protective brother and is friends with the long ago crush. That means you guessed it the long ago crush is there too, but there are two sides to the tale of her crush on him.
I can’t wait for volume two! I truly want to see how this manga continues the story.
Thank you to NetGalley for the digital copy of this manga.
I really like the characters in this first volume. The story has the makings of a love triangle already. I'm very interested to continue the series to see who Yuuki ends up with. I'm not-so-secretly rooting for Iori.
Yuuki is a 20-year-old college sophomore who has wished for one thing since moving to Tokyo: to find her soulmate. Growing a bit desperate after a long drought, she goes along with a friend to a club for the first time. Her friend thrives, but it's chaotic and loud...just not Yuuki's scene. Just when Yuuki begins to despair that she'll ever find a real, adult relationship, she meets Iori, a man with bleached hair and a slightly scary demeanor...but first impressions don't always tell the whole story. Could destiny still have more cards to play?
Great art, but sadly How I met my Soulmate is the story of a woman who has no interest other than finding a soul mate. The stories only tension is that may evolve into a love triangle. Because the protagonist is not fully flushed out for me the strength of this first in a series is its art.
This was a good start to a series. I can already feel that there is going to be development with both of the two love interests. It didn't feel very different or new though as I feel like I've read something like this before.
I really enjoy this art style, as I'm really picky in only reading manga in which I enjoy the art.
I wasn't prepared for a love triangle—BUT THIS WAS HONESTLY GOOD, AND I LOVE BOTH GUYS AND EVERYTHING IS CUTE AND PRETTY. I'm squealing for real!
3 out of 5 stars.
This is a pretty basic manga storyline but I really appreciate that the main characters are 20+ and not middle school/ high schoolers. I wish there was more to especially the main female character because you barely get to know her. The art was pretty and I liked the dark-haired character but the others were not so likable, at least for now. I don't think I will pick up this story from here unless I'm asked to read it.
Disclaimer: I received an arc copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks Netgalley and publisher for this free manga. It’s just a simple love story about a girl wanting her dream prince who are basically the same generic types you’ll ever see mostly in romance mangas. The arts pretty tho!
Absolutely love this series!
I'm glad to see another series where the main characters are older. The art designs for the characters are perfect and love seeing the difference appearances Lori has. I will admit when Lori first appeared I thought he was going to have a jerk personality but was glad it turned around. Their relationship kinda reminded me of Haruna and Yoh from High School Debut, where the male MC helps the female MC find a boyfriend and in the process they get closer and you can guess where it eventually leads to.
Yuuki and Lori start an unexpected friendship, after a not so good first impression out at a club with their friends, to find Yuuki her soulmate. This seems impossible at first, but someone appears and she now has to determine if he is the soulmate she has been looking for or is it someone else close to her.
This was unexpectedly great! This Shoujo manga is a romance lover's dream, and I just ate it all up.
This story follows Yuuki, a 20-year-old college sophomore who hopes to one day find her soulmate and ends up finding herself in the middle of a love triangle!
I really love how the different characters motivations and personalities are explored, and there are so many things I can't wait to find out about in the next volume!
This is going to be a fun one to see who's team everyone is on *ahem team Lori* and this would be a great starter manga for romance lovers who have never read manga before and want to try it out.
I will absolutely be reading the rest of this series and checking out Anashin's other series which is a basketball romance!
*Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
This is a cute manga with a love triangle! I don’t really trust Seno, I feel like he’s lying about his backstory.
Overall this is great and I enjoyed it, even though it wasn’t what I expected. Looking forward to the next volume.
A few years ago I read Anashin's 'Waiting For Spring' and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was so excited to see a new series by her and had high hopes for it. Thankfully, I loved this!
I genuinely enjoyed the characters, their motivations for the choices they were making, and the romance developing between a few of them. The art is absolutely gorgeous and has tiny call backs to the 00's art style that I have a soft spot for.
This is a solid first issue. I'm pulling for Iori, but that doesn't mean I'm any less excited to see how Seno's story plays out as well.
If you like sugary, extra sweet romance manga, this may be a new manga to pick up.
Personally, I'm not sure this style of the book is for me. I read through it quickly, and I enjoyed parts of it. However, parts of it were a little too repetitive for me, which quickly became annoying. Some characters were also a little too whiny, and I could never really sink into the story.
How I Met My Soulmate volume 1 by Anashin is about 20-year-old Yuuki seeking her soulmate in the intense dating scene of Tokyo. Desperate to meet someone, the shy Yuuki goes along with a friend to a club and there she meets Iori, someone who volunteers to help make her dream come true after she helps him at the club (he is drunk, and she makes sure he is safe). We also learn that Yuuki has a long-lost unrequited love she has never given up on that will eventually play a role in the volume.
This story was very sweet and Iori is adorably protective of the naive Yuuki who often doesn't make the wisest choices when it comes to men. Yuuki is inexperienced in most aspects of dating, so she makes some predictably naive decisions in her day-to-day life. She also had a huge crush on a boy in middle school and she doesn't know what happened to him after they graduated. I won't spoil it for you but he does have a large impact on the story and it quickly becomes a love triangle, as is often the case in manga.
The art is lovely--detailed and expressive. The author really goes the extra mile in drawing the high rises of Tokyo in the background and the food is scrumptious-looking. It is easy to read and follow along. I never had questions about the action in the scene and the text was typically large enough that I didn't have to zoom in.
I eagerly await the next volume, I am sad that it will probably be a few months until I can continue reading about Yuuki's quest for love.
First off, a big thank you to Kodansha for the review copy!
The volume didn't start off very promising for me, I found the female lead Yuuki to be a bit confusing in her expectations from a romantic relationship, or lack thereof. What she said in one panel, clashed with the next, and we could see that she, in truth, had no idea about what she expected from a relationship. My thoughts on and interest in the story shifted in the second half, especially after seeing Yuuki and Iori falling into a comfortable friendship, which is something I always appreciate in romance manga. I also appreciated the blanace Iori had as a character.
A more detailed review will be up on my blog and I'll update my review then, but overall, How I Met My Soulmate will not fall short for shojo lovers and other readers who are looking for a dash of sweetness in their lives before the New Year's. Recommended!
After years of cramming for her exams, Yuuki is tired of being lonely. Together with her friend, she sets out to find her soulmate. She wants to fall in love. Head over heels in love. If only it were that easy. Because there’s not one but two boys who tick all of her boxes. Who will it be? Silent Iori or childhood sweetheart Seno?
This manga was so goooood. 😭 It was mature and the characters were well-developed. The story was definitely toying with my emotions and I think this is one of those series which will get better and better. I’m hooked.
I love me some good romance and this looks really promising. I already have my favourite and I hope the girl will decide to be with him in the end.
I'm not so mich into angsty stuff, but eventho it looked like it would turn into something like that for a second, I was pleasantly surprised, that it didn't. Also I love that there was no unnecessary misunderstanding trope. Everyone is aware of the other, tho they sure assume a lot for people who just met. But otherwise it would be boring. I'm really looking forward for the second volume and hope it will be accessible on netgalley.
This story is very cute. It seems to be friends to lovers but also has rivals within it.
I’m enjoying the fact the main character just wants a soulmate. It’s an interesting take on not just a girl who wants a relationship and is boy crazy. She wants someone that is the one and that’s very relatable. I enjoy the slight drama of everything because there are of course misunderstandings within some of her relationships (friendships and more maybe) and the so far we have two main guys who are trying for the attention of the main character. I have an opinion on who I want her to end up with but with this one I’m not assuming who she will end up with. The way each character is written is great because you can go from being like i don’t know about this person to genuinely hoping for the best for them.
Can’t not wait for volume 2
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review!
I’m not really a huge fan of the romance genre so it has been sometimes since I had last read a manga or novel written in the romance genre. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed at all!
I love Anashin’s art style and how she drew different and ubiquitous outfits for different characters on different occasions which made it an eye-candy to look at. The pacing of the manga was also well done and it didn’t feel too rushed or draggy whilst keeping me at the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed how the art style captured the emotions and atmosphere of the mood which made the storytelling more subtle at times without using too many words.
The storyline taps into a lot of common shojo plots that well versed manga readers will be aware of. So some readers might find the plotline predictable at times and not very entertaining. So, I feel like readers will enjoy it even more if the author comes up with a unique spin to these tropes in order to stand out from other shojo mangas out there that have a similar plot to this manga. Nonetheless, this manga is like drinking a sweet strawberry milkshake in sunny weather and I still loved it! It almost reminded me of Fruits Basket with the school-ish settings and two male leads.
All in all, it’s definitely a manga worth reading on a day off or during the weekends to unwind. I enjoyed how it captured the spirit of youths searching for love in this modern world where love seems to be nowhere to be found. I will definitely keep a look-out for volume two!
