Thank you Anashin and NetGalley for the ARC to read!
I haven't read manga in a while, and this was a great re-introduction to reading manga!
The storyline is very straightforward. The manga has all of the components for a great beginning to a love story: love triangle, reunion with high school crush, insertion of a new love interest, and miscommunication. The FMC is very innocent, which made me feel protective of her and simultaneously frustrated because she seems to see only the good in people and fails to see anything but the good. The high school crush seemingly plays into that quality of hers. He doesn't seem like the best guy nor does he seem to be the worst. The new love interest sees the bigger picture and pulls the "make her cry and you'll regret it card" on the high school crush. However, it's hard to tell what exactly he sees in the FMC since they have not known each other for a long time. I'm very curious to see where this leads and I'm hoping for a HEA.
On to the art style. I really like the shoujo style the artist chose, and it feels very nostalgic to me since I grew up reading mostly shoujo.
I would totally recommend this manga to anyone who has read manga for many years or to anyone who is new to it. It is a very easy, light-hearted read.
4/5 stars; 0/5 spice - would recommend for anyone looking for a light read.
This is a very sweet story of college-age romance. Friends help each other find the perfect match and, more importantly, their soulmate. The main characters are very involved in each other's lives. The illustrations are well done and I love the big expression-filled eyes of the characters. So enjoyable to read.
A refreshing manga perfect for new adult readers interested in romance. Yuuki is an extremely relatable and likable main character whose motivations were clear and understandable. This was a page-turner from start to finish--I could not put this book down even if I wanted to. I excitedly anticipate the next volumes in this series and I can't wait to see how it ends!
super great graphics and the storyline is amazing. i need another volume asap!!
the characters are all great and the romance is easy to feel as a reader.
Thank you Kodansha Comics for a copy of How I Met My Soulmate (Vol1)
"A college romance that meditates on just what destiny means, and whether "the one" is really out there. A fresh and stylish spin on shojo manga!
Review:
I love the art style and character designs, and I like seeing well-loved tropes from high school mangas to ones with a university setting. The plotline was quite predictable and fluffy, so it was easy to get through.
I'm hoping for strong character development from our FMC, so I'm def gonna pick up volume 2!
Such a fun and cute story!!
The characters were all really likeable. The story was pretty predictable but I'm still intrigued for the next volumes!
I really loved this!!! The characters are really sweet and I genuinely like the protagonists. I'm really rooting for the dentist, he's a real unicorn of a good man!
This was super cute, it was pretty predictable but the art style and story were adorable. Will definitely look for the next volume!
Yuuki doesn't just want a boyfriend, she wants a soulmate. And Iori is going to help her despite his horrible first impression. Sometimes love isn't so simple, however.
A good first volume for a manga series. I like that the characters are older and it's not really a teen drama series. This first volume already gives strong love triangle vibes, which seems to be a thing for the mangaka, but everyone is likeable here. I'm looking forward to reading more.
Such a fun story, the characters are very wholesome and overall makes for a nice transition from high school to university shoujo. Excited for the upcoming volumes!
This manga is so adorable! I like the pacing of the story because it's quick but also tells a lot. I also like the art style because it feels cozy and there's no same face syndrome. I feel like it's reigniting my love for manga. Hopefully, I could read the next volume 💕
I loved this book, it gave me everything I wanted as a reader and more. I am a sucker for a cover and fell in love with the storyline and characters. Well written and kept me engaged :)
I love a good romance, and How I Met My Soulmate 1 was a great start to this shojo manga series. So far, the characters seem to be well written (despite not being the most original) and I found myself truly invested in their stories. I'm definitely rooting for Iori and can't wait to read the second volume!
This was a gentle, if average start to a series. We've got a girl from the country moving to the big city and not quite fitting in and feeling lonely. I do like that our cast is in university rather than high school, but a lot of the same beats are present thus far. This isn't a bad thing! I had a nice time with it, but I've also read a lot of series like it, too.
Aww, such a lovely beginning. Will definitely be reading the next volume when it comes out. Iori I’m rooting for you!!
How I Met My Soulmate is your basic shoujo, although it has some nice moments and at least the characters are in their twenties. Yuuki is a girl, who wants to find her soulmate and decides to date along with her friend, who wants a boyfriend too. At a bar she meets a guy called Iori, who wants to help her find her soulmate and the two grow closer. Also, a former crush comes to mix things up and it seems there's another love interest. The story is OK and moves nicely. Yuuki isn't even that annoying, but the setting is so Japanese and and this could be about high schoolers, since nothing makes this different really. We don't get to see the characters working and they act like kids most of the time. At least the bento thing was wrapped nicely eventually. I'm just not a fan of gullible girls who assume the same things when they were kids and now. Like, grow up?
The art looks nice and tender even. Yuuki looks quite normal, which is refreshing. Still, I wish the characters would look more their age though. The series doesn't offer anything new, but it's still cute and nice if you like that sort of thing. Perhaps not my cup of tea though.
i will admit i haven't read much manga, but this one was very much the lighthearted, fluffy read i needed. there is a low stakes hunt for a soulmate as the main plot, but in it is a lot of heart and earnest feelings.
4.5/5!!!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review!
I actually LOVED Waiting for Spring and the art style of this author and it’s been a minute since I’ve read some manga so I hopped on getting this ARC and I’m so glad I did!! It gave me exactly what I was looking for. No exaggeration, I was indeed screaming, crying, and throwing up, kicking my feet in the ear and rolling around in my bed from all the cuteness lol.
The plot isn’t anything new but I kind of like that. It’s comforting haha. I love mangas that are set in college as I feel the characters are a little more mature. The MC is so endearing and the male leads are SO SWEET AND CUTE AHHHHHHHHHH. There are tons of cute moments that had my stomach literally filled with butterflies. I literally yelled at my ipad and threw it on my bed because it was so cute. I am already sick to my stomach at the love triangle and am in desperate need of volume 2-100000 immediately. Lastly, the art is spectacular. So well drawn and love the way the scenes are framed so much!!
A really great and funny romance story. I had fun reading it and i love the characters. The topics are serious, adult and funny. I hope to read more of it.
We follow Yuuki is a 20-year-old who has wishes for one thing: to find her soulmate.
It was co cute. The art style is great. And the characters have amazing chemistry.
I really liked the way Iori and Yuuki interacted.
And it reads super fast, it's just great.
I can't wait to read the next volume.
If you like sweet romance (and incredible art) just try it out, you won't regret it.
