Great read and the best setup for a series I've ever read for a visual medium. I can't wait for the next volumes.

This is the beginnings of a very cute and dynamic story. How I Met My Soulmate follows a 20 year old Yuuki who is tired of feeling lonely and wants to meet the person she connects most with… Her soulmate. This volume follows the beginning of her journey to meet new people and hopefully find someone she can fall in love with and be loved in return by. While going clubbing with her friend in the hopes of meeting new people she meets Iori, a 23 year old dental student. After getting off on the wrong foot they begin the hunt to find Yuuki’s soulmate.

Yuuki and Iori’s friendship and dynamic is really sweet with just a hint of sass. Iori is a character I found myself enjoying, seeing his dedication and work ethic and his striving to be a good person/friend to Yuuki just about ticked all my boxes. Seeing how Yuuki interacted with the new world around her as she opened herself up to new experiences was completely relatable, and I felt truly endeared to her as she started unraveling her wants and desires in a person for herself.

I give this story 5/5 stars, and can’t wait to read the next volume and see what Yuuki decides to do next!

I got this and immediately read it; it was so much fun to read. Yuuki is a 20-year-old in search of romance and a soulmate. When she goes out with her best friend, she meets this intimidating guy, Iori. Somehow, they get close, and she realizes that Iori is actually a sweet guy. After years, she finds her first crush, so now she must choose between her only crush or the confusing Iori.

I just have to say that Iori had me kicking my feet and blushing; I love him, and they have to be endgame or I'll lose it. (He's definitely my type). I loved this, and it was such a fun read. I can't wait to read the next installment. Thank you netgalley for this eARC!

If you’ve ever given a present to someone you had a massive crush on that led nowhere, this manga is for you. If you have found yourself living in a city lonely at night wishing you had someone at your side, read this. This story is for the ones at the club and mixers trying to overcome their shyness in hopes of meeting someone new. And what happens when you do like our heroine Yuuki fatefully meets Lori-Kun, the guy who gently reminds her “There are guys out there who’ll appreciate you for who you are, I promise” while falling for her just as she encounters her crush again after five long years. This story was everything and I cannot wait to read the next part.

Here is my Review on Goodreads!

I loved this manga so much . Both of the men are great , I’m leaning more towards Iori, but i still can’t choose. I’m not huge into love triangles but this really did it for me . I can’t wait to read Vol 2 .

Moving to Tokyo for university hasn’t improved Yuuki’s prospects for a boyfriend any, and she isn’t planning to settle for anything less than her soulmate. She meets Iori, with his cold demeanour and bleached hair, and you just wrote the whole story yourself.

This is fine, really, but it’s also utterly pedestrian. For setting a shojo at the much less frequent college level instead of the typical high school, you’d like to think you’re in for something novel. When it comes down to it, however? Not so much.

Partly this is down to Yuuki, who is sort-of easy to root for, but also might as well still be in high school from the way she acts. She fervently holds on to a beloved experience with a guy she never got the courage to ask out and… nothing else beyond that appears to have romantically happened.

When she comments, at twenty years old, that “this is what clubbing is”, like she’s discovered the Colossus of Rhodes, you would be forgiven for thinking this actually is the story of a girl coming to the city after being raised by wolves in a den for the last twenty years. She is unbelievably naive in a way that kind of wrecks the setting.

Parts of it ARE actually quite good, in fact, lest I come off as too annoyed, and I do intend to keep reading this, it just isn’t off to the unequivocal strong start that I was hoping for. There’s more than a little old-school DNA in this, which is not the worst thing, but that leaves it a bit lacking as far as being unique goes.

One thing I did love is that the backstory with Yuuki’s experience in high school has a swerve you are almost certainly expecting, but then it has an even more interesting one that you probably aren’t. It could easily turn out to be a lie, and I will think way less of this if it is, but it reads really well in the moment and is sold in a great way.

And the quiet moments between Yuuki and Iori are really strong. This story is absolutely at its best during the more relaxed moments where it tones down the plot parts and ups the romance angle, even if dentistry is not romantic, sorry.

Yes, I don’t think there’s a planet in our galaxy where that teeth scene goes that way - it reminds me way too much of how masseuses never take any pleasure from their work after a while - but it still sells it somewhat. It’s a basic romance, but do basic well and it’s good enough.

It’s too bad that it isn’t stellar - Anashin’s Waiting For Spring was a fine little average shojo that was fun to read and had great characters. So far, this follow-up is trying the same thing, even though the setting is radically different, but to lesser results. Maybe next volume will change it up some, but this is currently a simple love triangle where the outcome is not in doubt. I mean, that’s the genre, but sometimes I want a little more actual uncertainty.

3 stars - it’s pretty okay, a combination of some strong moments mixed with some ‘we’re really doing this, huh’ stuff. I think it’s definitely worth a look if you like the genre, but it isn’t an immediate must-read based on the first volume.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the the eARC. This is my honest review.

who knew prowling on guys could be so entertaining? 😂😂😂

I like the friendship between her and Sanae.
I also like that Yuuki is not just looking for a warm body, but for someone who actually appreciates her and someone that she likes.

The game part had me smiling so much.

I’m screaming. How is volume 1 already done. I need the next one. 😩😩

God, mangas are some of the biggest part of my young adulthood. The amount of time I spent with my eyes glued to my laptop screen, (and then when I got a phone) to my phone are immeasurable. Going back to manhwas and mangas are truly like taking a stroll down a path I’ve long loved and walked many times before.

How I Met My Soulmate really stood out to me when I read about it. The thing with the blurbs of most mangas is often that they seem really simple, or sometimes a little bizarre. But the pages within the book are always filled with so much more heart, emotion and love that one would assume. I am to date yet to read a blurb that has done justice to the manga within.

From the first page, I found Yuuki extremely relatable. That quiet loneliness she speaks of, that yearning in search for someone, but the general helplessness of it all mixed with the inherent resistance to do something out of your comfort zone. I’d like to think, like me, many will relate to the way Yuuki was written. I love that the author chose to let Yuuki figure herself out slowly, with both caution and innocence. Sometimes really wanting something isn’t all you need; a lot of thought, contemplation and experience has to be paired with it. The author has done a good job portraying that playing out subtly.

I’ve never had any complaints about the illustration before in a manga and HIMMS is no different. Each line is confident and all the translations are perfect. There’s a thoughtful little glossary at the end that was so helpful. The manga could’ve very well have done without it, but adding it just makes you feel closer to the culture where the story takes place.

I loved watching the hero’s (who I’m not going to name because I think you should join Yuuki in her journey of finding the person she truly feels for) personality unravel slowly to reveal who he really is. I know first impressions matter, but I love how this manga speaks more than just once about how not everything is as it immediately appears and it’s nice to be open to that option at times. Or even if not that, at least whoever you really are will shine through no matter what. I felt so much warmth and emotion reading the scenes the hero appears in and it took me a bit initially to place him, but truly with time he has the softest corner of my heart reserved for him.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting going into this manga, but it’s so sweet and it touched me in a spot I realized I hadn’t yet healed and warmed it right up so I didn’t feel any pain. Even if I sniffled a little bit.

Five heartwarming stars. I can’t wait for volume 2. This author has also written another series called Waiting for Spring, if you wish to read a fully completed manga series. Happy reading!

I really liked Anashin's other manga, Waiting for Spring, so I was eager to check this one out. This was a good first volume! I really like this mangaka's art and it's fun to have so many potential love interests. I'm interested to see where the series goes from here.

This was a great start to the manga series!

College aged shojo with no weird age gaps between any of the potential love interest characters! Our main character Yuuki wants to be in love and find her soulmate and so does her friend so they hit the town one night and our story unfolds from there.

There is a potential love triangle at play but it does work with the plot really well and doesn't seem to be one of the love triangles just thrown onto the paper for no reason. I can't decide which love interest I like more at this point!

Good character development, cute plot, and beautiful art!

I got a copy of this volume provided via Netgalley and Kodansha Comics in exchange for a honest review.

a girl traumatized by her first crush who used her for a year to eat her home cooked meals and never talked to her after that, meets a dentist student who is trying his darnest to make her get over her trauma and to trust potential love interests again. and to top if off the guy who traumatized her appears and he is hell bent on clearing his name. this first volume closed on a cliffhanger and all in all was a perfect read.

How I Met My Soulmate is a story about Yuki, a 20-year-old girl who is lonely and searching for a soulmate. She met Iori, a dental student in a club, who decided to help her search for her soulmate. Later, she reunited with her school crush, Seno.

Yuki and Iori’s interaction is adorable; I love the way they take care of each other. I loved their dynamic; it was cute.

Characters in this manga communicate with each other to resolve doubts and misunderstandings, which I liked in the storyline.

It was a cute and enjoyable read. I loved the artwork and the storyline.

I’m excited to read Vol. 2 and see where the story takes them.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kodansha Comics, and Anashin for the opportunity to read this manga in exchange for an honest review.

I love Anashin's Waiting For Spring, and to find a new series by an artist and story-teller I greatly admire is quite exciting!

How I Met Your Soulmate is kind of like the Japanese manga college version of How I Met Your Mother. I have a feeling we all know who the soulmate will be, but there will be quite the adventure before college-student Yuuki realizes it. With excellent artwork, the manga is plot-driven and full of heart-pounding dialogue from start to finish! I love the dynamic between Yuuki and Iori, as well as the reunion with her middle school crush, Seno. I see at least a love triangle coming along the path of the story...but maybe it will develop into a love square?

All I can say is this manga is perfect for shoujo fans and I am extremely eager to see where this series goes!
