This was a great start to the Ordeals of Elly Robin series, and I was invested in what was going on in this world. I enjoyed the use of vaudeville and the period being used. The characters were wonderfully written and I cared about what was going on. It left me wanting to read more in this world and from P.D. Quaver.

A captivating historical fiction novel that transports readers to the tumultuous year of 1906. The story centers around Baby Elly Robin, a six-year-old piano prodigy with a unique aversion to speaking and eye contact. As part of a vaudeville troupe, she becomes a star attraction known as Baby Elly Robin, the Wonderchild. However, the tale takes a dramatic turn when the troupe lands in San Francisco just before the catastrophic earthquake. The author’s narrative is masterfully crafted, immersing readers in the heart of a bygone era while navigating the complexities of young Elly's life. The character development is exceptional, particularly in portraying Elly's resilience and her journey through a dismal children's asylum. The Ordeals of Elly Robin is a literary gem, offering a rich historical backdrop, intriguing characters, and a compelling story that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the subsequent volumes in this remarkable saga.
