I really liked this story. It kind of reminds me of the Deadwood series by Ann Charles. The storyline isn’t even close, but it definitely had an underlying similarity to it that I really enjoyed. It was the tone of it more than anything else, the snarky humor. I love a good small town thriller, especially if it’s in Wyoming. Maybe because it’s so close to me, I don’t know. In any case, it was easy to picture everything as it went. Characterization was great too, although I will admit, the killer’s identity shocked me. Not for the reason you would think though. You’ll know it when that part comes! I’m definitely intrigued enough to read the next one. I was a little pissed at the ending, but not because it wasn’t tied up as much as it could be for this story. It just went in a direction I didn’t want it to go in. I’m just hoping that particular part redeems itself in future books!
Huge thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!
I was hooked from the start. The narrator did a great job with telling the story and kept my attention throughout the story. I love when j find an audiobook with a good narrator. The author really wrote this story well. I found myself connected to the characters.
This book was good but it wasn’t as past paced as I had hoped. It had a good story line and I would love to read the next book in the series! Thank you Netgally for approving this ARC. Although this wasn’t my absolute favorite I enjoyed the story and would like to see what happens next!
Detective Delaney Pace is adjusting to loosing her brother and sister in law in a car crash and looking after her niece. A killer is on the loose and needs to keep her safe from harm. When a body is found, Delaney is shocked as she recognises the victim, her sister in law that was supposed to have died in the car crash.
Quite a dramatic introduction to a new character. The plot was quite involved and have to keep a mental track of what’s going on. A good twist a the end which is not predictable.
Her Silent Bones is the first in a series following Detective Delaney Pace, a girl who returns to her hometown of Kearney, Wyoming, fifteen years after her father's murder and now following a car crash that has killed her brother and sister-in-law. Delaney becomes Guardian for her niece, Kateena, who is 11 years old and Delaney is fiercely protective of her.
Soon after rejoining the local police force, it becomes clear that there is a killer on the loose. Delaney discovers a body and is shocked to discover that it is Kateena's mother; how is that possible? Didn't she die in the car crash? Delaney soon realises that she will need to face her dark past to solve the current series of murders and then...Kateena goes missing.
I enjoyed getting to know Delaney and her family circumstances, I think that she is a well written, strong lead character and I would like to see what the future books in the series bring for her.
The story was good and was full of twists and turns, most of which I couldn't see coming. It kept me guessing right to the very end.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
In the mood for an exciting Police Procedural, then look no further. A powerful and fast-paced tale, awaits you in Her Silent Bones, book one of the Delaney Pace series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins.
Her Silent Bones by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is one of those police procedurals that will keep you reading into the wee hours. Despite this being the first experience with the author, the attention grabbing synopsis created high expectations for the story. Well, it didn't disappoint. Her Silent Bones as the first book sets the tone for the rest of the books in the series. It delivered a powerful and fast-paced tale filled with mind-blowing twists, a well crafted mystery and non-stop action.
The characters featured all bear emotional scars from their traumatic past. There were those who chose to channel their experience into something positive by trying to find justice for the victims of crimes. Then there were those who chose to crime as their pathway. They also had secrets, which delivered shocking revelations.
It was interesting getting to know the characters, especially the killer who called himself the delivery man. The deeper one goes into the story, the reason behind the moniker is revealed.
Now, whilst the mystery behind the murders was solved, there were still some unanswered questions. Most of which relates to the shocking revelations. Her Silent Bones delivered a solid start to an exciting new series, and I look forward to picking up the next book.
Stephanie Cannon narrates. This is my second time experiencing her work. I enjoyed listening to her then, and this time was no different. She did an exceptional job with both the male and female voices.
A great start to this new series! The main protagonist, Delaney Pace, is a courageous, driven, and complicated woman fighting to overcome the affects of her past.
A fast-paced read that grabs you on the first page and is powered by non-stop action and a taut, emotional narrative Her well-developed characters and wonderful writing style, full of twists and turns, will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page, trying to anticipate where this story would go. This is a definite page-turner that I couldn’t put down until the very last page. It is realistic with engaging characters that you're sure to love! I am anxious to see how the rest of this series unfolds!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Narrated by Stephanie Cannon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Novel by Pamela Fagan Hutchins ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a really good premise. It had me listening non stop.
Ii really liked the MC. She's rough but sensible. Definitely a series I would gladly buy and recommend.
I'm not sure about this one. While I thought the plot was interesting, the pacing of the story was a little slow for me. I had a hard time staying engaged with the story. I don't think there was anything in particular that slowed it down, it just didn't capture me. I enjoyed the characters, plot, & the action parts. I will be reading the next book to see if this is a one off for me.
A tantalising opening novel in what promisrs to be a fantastic new crime series The narrator did a good job of telling the story. I felt tge emotion of the characters. I like the fact the accents werent used too much . The story its self was well written and the narrator did a good job of bringing the story to life with the various characters.
The characters arcs written into the dialogue and the various twists and turns make this a must listen series i would recommended to anyone. It appears to be a murder disapperance but it is so much more. Look forward to the next one . Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator for this cracking 5 star listen.
Her Silent Bones, Book #1 in the Detective Delaney Pace series, is a domestic thriller. Family drama, accompanied by a string of deaths, identified as murders by forensics and autopsies, are directly impacting Delaney Pace.
Delaney’s father was murdered fifteen years prior to getting a call that her brother and sister-in-law died in a horrific car crash. Delaney will never forget her father and now with her only remaining sibling deceased, she moves back to Kearney, Wyoming to take care of her niece (Kateena). Delaney rejoins the local police force upon her return and gets called to a crime scene that will forever change her life and tie her up in a never-ending web of murders and deceit.
This book is Fast-paced, action packed, and suspenseful all packaged together with a neatly tied bow. You start reading the book carefully and curiously just like when opening a present in which you don’t want to ruin the pretty bow. By the end of the book, you are devouring new discoveries and have now pushed aside the notion of maintaining the pretty bow. Instead, you are tearing into the package to see what surprise(s) await you.
Delaney is challenged with finding a killer and serving justice all while protecting those that she loves most. I can’t wait to see what unfolds in Book #2 of the series!
This gripping, suspenseful, and tense story had me walking with my headphones all day because I had to listen to this audiobook. I just had to know what would happen next. It is a fast-paced story with twists and turns around every corner with a strong female character. The narration was nicely done.
Thank you to #Bookouture and #NetGalley who provided me with a copy of #HerSilentBones
Talk about terrific! Her Silent Bones: A gripping crime thriller with a heart-stopping twist knocked my socks off! Whew! I have not read this author's books before and boy was I missing out! This book was suspenseful, gripping, and dramatic. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narration was nicely done.
Detective Delaney Pace has returned to Kearney, Wyoming after the deaths of her brother and sister-in-law. Her eleven years old niece, Kateena, needs her and Delaney will be raising her. Delaney doesn't even get the chance to settle in when a body is found, and she is thrown into investigating the murder. Delaney is shocked when she discovers that Lila, her sister-in-law, and Kateena's mother is the dead woman. But wait! She died in the car crash with Delaney's brother, didn't she? Then Kateena goes missing......
The stakes are high, tensions mount and Delaney and her partner are on the chase for a clever and diabolical killer. Time is of the essence, and they pour everything they have into the investigation.
I enjoyed the suspense, sense of dread, and tension in this book. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life. There are a nice number of twists and turns that kept the pacing moving at a nice pace. There is also a shocking reveal that I did not see coming! Another plus is getting to know just enough about Delaney and her past that has me wanting to know more about her in future books in this series.
Gripping, tense, dramatic and shocking.
Delaney Pace, haunted by her father's murder when she was a child, returns to her hometown of Kearny, Wyoming leaving her life as an ice road trucker behind to care for her niece, Kateena, after her brother and sister-in-law are killed in a car crash. Delaney previously worked as a deputy for the Kearny Police Department but left after a disagreement with her boss/mentor, Sheriff Coltrane Fentworth.
Delaney is rehired by Sheriff Fentworth as an investigator and partnered with Deputy Leo Palmer, a San Diego, California transplant with secrets of his own. Their first case involves a body discovered on a secluded mountain trail. Delaney is shocked when she recognizes the victim – it is her sister-in-law, Lila, who everyone thought died weeks ago. As Delaney confronts her dark past to uncover the truth, the narrative intensifies, culminating in a climactic revelation that sets the stage for the next book in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility of switching between reading and listening to this book! Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and author Pamela Fagan Hutchins for the opportunity to review the advance audio copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
I overall enjoyed this book, but it had a lot going on and I had a hard time keeping focused on the audio. I did really enjoy the narrator. The overall story was good, with some twists and turns thrown in.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
I have always been a fan of Pamela Fagan Hutchins' books. I have always found her stories to be complex and suspenseful with a perfect mix of characters and this story is no different. You will fall in love with Delaney, her story and her grit. This woman alone makes me so excited to read more of this series. The story is so intriguing and the ending leaves you with the perfect little cliffhanger that is just enough to have you wanting to know more, this book was just a perfect way to start off a new series. definitely a five star read.
Thank you Bookouture Audio, NetGalley, Pamela Fagan Hutchins and narrator Stephanie Cannon for a chance to hear an advance copy of book 1 of the Detective Delaney Pace series ‘Her Silent Bones’. Delaney has come back home for the saddest reasons—she must take over raising her niece and running her brother’s businesses due to his and his wife’s unexpected death. She gets a job back at the police department where she once worked only to get pulled over for speeding later that day by her soon to be assigned partner. Talk about AWKWARD! All that aside, in no time the two work well together and are soon on the trail of a serial killer especially when a dead body turns up on a walking trail and the body is that of her dead sister-in-law. The same one that’s been dead for a few months but somehow has in fact only died recently and has some interesting wounds that lead to a case in Las Vegas. And now another woman has gone missing how much time do the detectives have before all they find is her dead body?
Excellent work and so good I already have downloaded book 2 and am looking forward to book 3. Love this author and this detective. If you love Kendra Elliott, Melinda Leigh, Mary Burton snap up this new series and settle in for a thriller that will be your next favorite series.
A really good read. Meaty, fast paced and disturbing. A few shocks along the way with a number of twists. What's not to like?
Her Silent Bones
Rating: 3.75 ⭐️ read rounded up
Synopsis:
Delancy Pace watched her father get murdered 15 years ago. She never really recovered and ended up working at the police station until there was a disagreement ten years ago, and she left to become a truck driver. She has now returned after her brother and sister-in-law died in a car accident to take care of her 11-year-old niece. She returns to work as a deputy in Kearney, Wyoming, and there is another killer on the loose. She is assigned to be the detective and is left speechless when she recognizes the victim to be her sister-in-law, who she believes is already dead.
What I liked:
- Fast-paced
- Plenty of twists to stay gripped in the story.
- The story becomes more complex
- The book does a good job setting up book two.
What I struggled with:
- The dialogue was slightly off
- The story was slightly muddled with the number of sub-points in the characters
- The story follows several characters, even if for just one chapter. This was slightly confusing because the chapters do not state which character it follows. Some chapters do switch and follow one character, then move to another.
The book does end on a slight cliff hanger, and I am interested and reading the next book
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator kept my attention the entire time. This was a fast paced, action-packed book from beginning to end! Some of the surprises were huge and I didn’t see them coming. I really enjoyed this one and I look forward to the next in the series, especially with the cliffhangers!
