Whats not to like about a psychopathic serial killer on the loose in a small town in Wyoming. Thank God for recently returned and recruited officer Delaney Pace, the bad ass female heroine who takes no crap from anyone. If anyone can hunt this killer down it's her. This is a fast paced thriller which appears to be the first in a series. It does end in a bit of a cliff hanger so expect more from this author down the road. I wish the characters had been a little more fleshed out, especially Leo, but that might happen in the next book. A fun read.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC audio version of this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this mystery! I loved Delaney and her charisma and want to read more books. I want to know so much more about her brother and the things he has put into motion. The last quarter of this book was so action packed and I really enjoyed it. The way the book was structured with different view points was so great and really made the book so gripping and I could not wait to find out what would happen. The characters were all so great and I loved all of them.
Wow! What a fabulous audiobook! I thoroughly enjoyed my first Pamela Fagan Hutchins book, including the fabulous narration, by Stephanie Cannon.
The storyline was terrific and quite unique, and it had me hook, line and sinker. I absolutely loved the badass protagonist, and her law enforcement pals. Some other characters, not so much, especially the main meanie. I was definitely sleuthing my way through this one, trying to work out who was behind the spate of crimes and why. I absolutely raced through the second half of the audiobook! That twist!!
I simply couldn't fault the narrator. Stephanie Cannon was amazing, with very believable accents and deep male voices.
I'll definitely be reading (or listening to) the other two books in the series!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an eARC of Her Silent Bones. It is due for publication on 16/1/24.
Her Silent Bones was my first Pamela Fagan Hutchins book, and it will not be my last. I enjoyed this book as it is a pretty standard detective novel, with the difficult background of the main character, and the coming back to the hometown where the tragedy happened. However, there were twists and turns in this book that kept me on my toes.
The things I really enjoyed about this book:
-The main character drove a big rig and a muscle car. Not typical for a woman- awesome.
-The book is told through the points of view of multiple characters throughout the book.
-The pace of the book keeps your attention throughout. I did not get bored while listening to this book, and I recently dnf a book that others thought was *good*.
-The twists in this book were excellent. Often when people say there were twists they never saw coming, I do not understand how they missed them, however in this book, I thought they were very well done and not over the top.
-There is a lot of diversity within the cast of characters, it isn't just all white people with money.
The things that I didn't enjoy as much:
-Even with the twists throughout the book, the book does have an aspect of predictability.
-The character development of the second deputy could be more in-depth and not as vague- but it does give a good segway into the second book.
-The ending didn't seem to flow with the pace or the style of the rest of the book, but again, it was still enjoyable.
I will definitely be reading the second instalment of the Detective Delaney Pace series. I look forward to seeing the further character development of the main character, along with Leo her partner.
I want to thank #netgalley and #BookoutureAudio for this listen, but all my opinions were my own.
This is book 1 in a new female detective series. This is a fast paced and action filled story. It’s starts with the discovery of a body of someone who was supposed to have already been buried. Then we’re on hot pursuit of a serial killer but we wrap up with, is this actually personal???
I loved the lead female character and Im very excited already for the whole series. The author did an amazing job of building up the character, so that it leaves you thirsty for more.
WOW!!! I loved this! This was a fast-paced thriller and I loved this one!
Delaney Pace has spent the last ten years as a trucker but she has to put that in the past because her brother and sister-in-law died in a car crash and she had to come back home to take care of her niece Kateena. She comes back and takes a job with the local law enforcement and her first case is a woman found murdered on a trail. Once secrets start coming out everything becomes challenging for Delaney, and then everything hits close to home. It gets intense!!! She also has a new partner Leo, and they are trying to figure out how their partnership will work. Will they be able to stop the killer before he murders again?? Check out this one for an absolutely intense, suspenseful book that will keep you on the edge of your seat!!
I loved this book! The audiobook was amazing! The narrators are amazing and they fit the characters very well! Thank you Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for the treat of reading and reviewing this one!
Get ready for Delaney Pace to put you through your paces! I really enjoyed the intro to Delaney and colleague, Leo, and the pursuit of a killer that followed. The narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life. A five-star read and I look forward to more!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an advanced audio copy of this book!
I loved this book! It's your typical female detective story. Delaney has a past and she's trying to prove herself by taking care of her niece and working as a detective. The story had me all in from the beginning and the narrator was a dream.
I enjoyed the twist at the end. I definitely did not see it coming, throughout the story.
I found the possible love story a little off. Mentions of a love interest which felt lacking. Maybe I missed something but it seemed to have no build up but all the sudden Delaney wanted to kiss another character. Maybe that'll be explored more in the next two books.
I'll definitely be looking forward to the next two being released as audiobooks.

Fifteen years ago I watched my father’s murder. Now, having never truly recovered from losing her father all those years ago, Detective Delaney Pace is devastated when her brother and sister-in-law are killed in a car crash. Packing up her life she heads back to the rugged cowboy town of Kearney, Wyoming. Her niece Kateena is just eleven years old and Delaney will do anything to keep her safe…Now there’s another killer on the loose, and he’s already taken his first victim.New to the local police force, when a body is found on a secluded mountain trail Delaney is called to the scene. Surrounded by imposing pine trees, a young woman lies still in the moonlight. Gazing into her dark, unblinking eyes Delaney’s heart pounds wildly in her chest as she recognises the victim. It’s her beloved Kateena’s mother, Lila. But she died weeks before. Didn’t she? There’s evil lurking in this town and I’ll stop at nothing to hunt down the truth and deliver justice. With Kateena traumatised all over again, when Delaney links Lila’s murder back to the place where her own father was killed she realizes she must face her own dark past to catch the man responsible. But little does she know that the killer has already made their next deadly move. Back at home, Kateena should be in bed sleeping soundly, but her room is empty. Kateena is missing…Can Delaney uncover the truth behind the killings and save Kateena before it’s too late?
My Opinion
This fast-paced thriller makes for a great series opener. I was less than halfway through this book when I knew that it was going to be a series I would continue. Delaney Pace arrives in town just as there is a killer on the loose. This was one of those books that I was reluctant to put down although life often got in the way, but nevertheless this is a book that I would highly recommend.
Rating 4/5
For fans of Pamela Fagan Hutchins, this book is a welcome return to the on-the-edge of your seat story telling. Delaney has had trauma in her life and she has now returned to the small town where she used to live. She's there to raise her niece who was orphaned when Delaney's brother and his wife were killed in a car accident.
Delaney is smart, tenacious, and well skilled to fight and take on bad guys. But she's now dealing with a vicious killer who is kidnapping and torturing people that Delaney knows and loves.
This book has explicit scenes of torture. There are a few paragraphs that seem to come out of nowhere at the end - perhaps we'll find out why in the next book. But this is another great crime thriller that will have your eyes rushing to the end. I look forward to the other stories in this series.
I listened to the audio version and I thought the narrator was great.
her silent bones is a crime thriller with a typical “i don’t need anyone” headstrong female investigator (who has enough trauma for fifty people) a side-kick male cop with no backstory and feelings for the main character & a serial killer who is convinced that all women are evil.
this book was very fast paced but the plot didn’t feel rushed at all. the beginning & end of the book were quite quick but the middle dragged a little bit but i was still engaged. i liked the small town vibes. the cast was nothing special, delaney is tolerable, a typical “badass” main character, copied & pasted from other books. no opinion on leo since he basically was only there to crush on her. there was nothing that stood out about any of the characters, i didn’t really care who lived or who died because they just didn’t grab my attention. i enjoyed that the author included humour in the writing to make it seem a little less dark than it actually is.
that being said, the crime scene description at the beginning of the book was a little graphic. for that i’d probably issue a trigger warning to readers or listeners who are sensitive to graphic descriptions of crime scenes.
i’m a little confused about the serial killer twist. so, the serial killer ends up being a woman who was raised as a man, and in the book it’s quoted: “she could have been a fine person but he is a twisted, irredeemable disaster” ..i’ve seen one other reviewer also confused about what the author meant by this and one reviewer straight out calling the author a terf. i don’t want to jump to conclusions or spread misinformation about the author being anti-trans but that quote was kind of tasteless especially in 2024. hopefully before the book actually comes out, the author / publisher can have this clarified or maybe rewritten?
to end this review, i would certainly pick up books two and three. i’m sure the characters will have more backstory & be more enjoyable as the series continues & i’m a also just a fan of well-written, fast paced crime thrillers. thank you again to netgalley & bookouture for the arc
This new series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins started off with an edge of your seat killing, making this author a favorite already.
After learning of the death of her brother and his wife, leaving her niece Kateena orphaned, Delaney Pace has returned to the small town of Kearney, Wyoming to care for her and rejoined her police department.
Known for doing things her way, Delaney can be a force to be reckoned with, especially to her partner Leo as they are immediately drawn into hunting down a serial killer.
With thanks, I was able to listen to the audio version of this book through Netgalley and Bookouture Audio. The narrator, Stephanie Cannon, was excellent with all the characters and I especially liked Skeeter and I hope he continues in this series. My opinion is expressed in this review of ‘Her Silent Bones’ 4 Stars.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an advanced audio book in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars
Delaney Pace is back in Wyoming after a decade on the road as an ice trucker. Her brother and sister in law were killed in a car crash and Delaney returns to take care of her niece and gets her old job back on the police force. Delaney is still traumatized by witnessing her father's murder when she was a teen. Delaney and her partner race against time to solve some recent murders and a kidnapping.
Stephanie Cannon did an excellent job narrating.
Overall, this was a pretty solid detective mystery! It had multiple plot twists, dynamic characters, and the ENDING?? Shocked.
However, I felt like it was a little bit lacking at times. Even though I described the characters as dynamic, I felt like there wasn’t much development for them until the very end of the novel. I found myself not really caring whatever might happen to them until the last few chapters, which made the rest of the book a bit less intriguing. I wish we had got to hear a bit more about the murder of Delaney’s father as well as that seemed to be randomly referenced, but I’m sure that’s what the rest of the series is for.
Also, I was really surprised at how much the blurb gave away regarding the plot. It’s hard to know what to discuss that wouldn’t be a spoiler, but let’s just say that some of the things mentioned don’t even occur until almost 75% of the way through. I wish some of this had been left a mystery, but it also is what drew me to reading it in the first place so I see both sides.
Having said all of this, the complications between characters and the revelation at the end has really caused me to consider reading the second one even though it wasn’t originally my intention.
Love, love, love this book! I was gripped straight away and invested with the main character. I found myself hoping everything turned out well for the rest of the characters... well most of them! I definitely would read more of this series.
I couldn't put this one down!
First in a new series (which I cannot wait to continue!)
Delaney Pace has not had it easy. She witnessed her father's murder as a child. Her grandparents turned her over to the state. Now, her brother and sister-in-law have died in a car crash, orphaning her niece. She returns to her hometown and takes her old job back with the sheriff's department. Before she even officially starts, there is a murder and she is on the hunt for a vicious killer.
Delaney is a great character- complex and a total badass. She does not fit the typical cop stereotype, which makes this detective thriller fresh. This was the first book I've read by [author:Pamela Fagan Hutchins|682431] and I will definitely be adding some of her other work to my TBR list.
The audiobook is narrated by Stephanie Cannon. Her pace and tone are fine, but there are some mispronunciations scattered throughout. I listed at 1.5 speed.

This is another thriller where the description grabbed my attention and I wanted to listen to it. Her Silent Bones is the first in a three-book series with all three books coming out January 16, 2024. So if you love this first book you will not have to wait for the next two to be released! Great job on that to the publisher Bookouture!
It is a fast read/listen and if you become attached to Delaney you will be fully invested and ready for the next book!
The beginning and the end were very fast moving for me, but the middle of the book just slowed for me and I almost lost interest in continuing the book, but I was just curious enough that I had to see what was going to happen next. I am glad I finished it, but I don’t think I will continue the series. The last portion of the book was building up for the second in the series. I am sure we will see readers/listeners continue this series. They will want to see what happens next with Delaney and others!
Many thanks to the publisher Bookouture for granting me an advanced copy to listen to and review!
A clever suspenseful novel full of twists that keep you engaged and wanting to find out more. The story gripped and intrigued me right from the first chapter. The plot builds, the suspense is tense and the ending is not one you see coming. A great start to an intriguing series. Can’t wait for book 2.
I would definitely recommend this book to friends.
Delaney Pace is about to find that returning to small-town life does not mean peaceful. As the body of her sister-in-law is discovered, there is a twist. They believed that she was already dead, killed in a car accident with Delaney's brother months before.
Now another woman is missing, and Delaney is determined to find her before it is too late - and she becomes the next victim.
Great read! I really enjoyed this one!
This is a fast paced, first in a series thriller that was entertainingly narrated audio book. I enjoyed the story, but it was left at a cliffhanger that left me a little underwhelmed and unsatisfied.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and Net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book for my honest review.
