I really liked the small town vibes in this one. There are a lot of charcters to remember in this one and who are the "bad guys", the "good guys', and the "local guys". We are led to believe some events but only to find out they were not exactly how we thought they were.
This book is number 1 in a series and you will need to read book 2 to get more answers, which is fine for some books but this one I didn't love that it ended that way.
This is the first book I have read by this author. Delaney Pace left town 10yrs ago to be brought back by death of her brother and sister in law to take care of their daughter. The day before she officially started her job as a detective for the local police department a woman was found murdered. As Delaney and her partner try to figure out who killed the woman their is another woman kidnapped. Now the two are trying to figure out who this is before they have another murder on their hands. This book is fast paced and will keep you on the edge of your sit with suspense from the beginning to end.
Addicting. This book was full to the brim with action, twists, and thrills! I will definitely be reading on in this series.
I absolutely love Delaney Pace, intelligent, resourceful, skilled and fiercely independent, I already want more!
A cap in hand request for a job from her old boss, being arrested by the new cop in town and a grisly discovery, in the mountains all mean that Delaney's return to her home town following the sudden death of her brother in an accident is not going well.
With a mystery like a maze to get your head round, and some excellent characters and relationships, there's plenty here to keep you addicted to listening.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and Pamela Fagan Hutchins for a gifted ARC of Her Silent Bones… Delaney Pace Series Book 1.
When Detective Delaney’s brother and sister-in-law are killed in a car crash she is now guardian to her niece Kateena. Dark truths and grim realities are uncovered as time goes on. There’s a killer and she will do everything in her power to stop the killer and discover what the truth is. I was caught off guard by some of the twists and turns at the end. It was a quick read and I loved how it grabbed me right in chapter one! I look forward to reading more by this author.
The reader did a fabulous job!!!
Wow! There are a lot of ways to sneak in listening to an audiobook when the story is so fast-paced and thrilling. I was so absorbed with the story that I listened and finished it in two days. I could not stop listening as I needed to know what happened next. Delaney is strong and determined to figure out a good life for her niece, who just lost her parents. She is teamed up with Leo, who is also new to the force to investigate the latest sadistic murders. There are a lot of twists and turns as well as secrets that come out as they race to find the killer. While some of the mysteries are solved, others are just beginning. I'm ready for the next in the series.
This is an intriguing first in series that fans of Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliott will enjoy. The main character, Detective Investigator Delaney Pace, is flawed but likeable and no stranger to tragedy and hard work. She faces some uphill battles that add depth to the character and story development, but I was thankful they did not weigh down either one. The other characters are equally interesting and well developed, and there is a hint of a potential romantic relationship. Let's just say that I would like to see that relationship develop, but it may prove to be quite a minefield. The mystery is multilayered with lots of twists and turns, some of which managed to take me by surprise and certainly paved the way for more to come. I very much look forward to more time with Delaney and the other citizens of Kearney, Wyoming.
The narrator did an excellent job voicing the characters, male and female.
Wow! I could NOT finish this book fast enough. The suspense, case details - I could have devoured this book in one sitting if life allowed. I loved Delaney, her niece, fellow coworkers - and the sexual tension. Loved the narration! I could not stop!
Forced to return home, Delaney takes guardianship of her 11 yo niece after the tragic death of her parents in a car crash. Rejoining the sheriff's office. Delaney is on the case of a tortured and murdered woman - identified as her sister-in-law. So who died in the crash?
The plot was fantastic - creative and fast.
This story was mediocre in nearly every way. It kept me mostly interested, moved at a reasonable pace, the twists at the end were OK, the killer was disturbing and scary, but there were so many elements going on that it muddied up the water. I can't even list all the stuff happening, either in the foreground or the background, and at one point I had to remind myself this was a tiny town in Wyoming and then none of it seemed remotely plausible.
The torture methods employed by the killer were particularly barbaric, and the explanation at the end felt like it came completely out of left field and left holes.
All that said, I saw it through to the end and was eager to find out the resolution, but there was little closure. I wouldn't call it a "cliffhanger", but all kinds of new threats popped up to try to hook you into the next book. I don't regret my time reading this but there are too many bad guys and conspiracies, so I think I'll be walking away here.
'Her Silent Bones' is a crime thriller, complete with a creepy, woman-hating serial killer and a kickbutt, masculine-coded lady cop who drives trucks and has a dark past that makes her closed off to love. We all know what this sort of book is and what it ought to deliver. 'Her Silent Bones' delivers everything very competently, with nonstop action and high stakes that are easy to understand.
The story doesn't do anything revolutionary and the crazy killer felt like we've all met 'him' in a book before, but it's well-written so this would have gotten a 4. I knocked a star off for what felt like an uncomfortable introduction of politics in the serial killer reveal...
<spoiler> When the serial killer turns out to be a woman who was raised by her father as a boy, and we're told she could have been a fine person but the resulting he is a twisted, irredeemable disaster, it read (to me) like a comment on allowing kids to be trans. In 'Mad Honey,' which took the opposite stance, I was also displeased to find unannounced politics in my fiction... when I pick up a light read, like a thriller or a romance, I expect an escape. Politics shatters that for me, no matter if I agree with the stated opinion or not.
Unlike in 'Mad Honey,' where there's no reading around it, maybe in this case I read something into that gender-twist that the author didn't mean? I am curious if I'm the only one who was a little uncomfortable with the transgender twist, so I'll probably circle back to read others' reviews once a few more are up.
Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A very creative book. I did like the storyline but it was pretty slow in my opinion! I definitely like the cover which initially caught my attention. Glad I read it but not for me.
